Carl J. Stephens
Carl J. Stephens, age 93, of Okeechobee, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2001, at the Okeechobee Health Care Facility. Born May 25, 1908, in Brown City, Mich., Mr. Stephens had been a resident of Okeechobee since 1987.
Survivors include: his wife of 38 years, Mary Stephens of Okeechobee; six sons, William Stephens of Trenton, Mich., Gerald Stephens of California, James Stephens of Wakeman, Ohio, Edward Stephens of Horshoe Ben, Ark., Walter Stephens of Joliet, Ill. and Paul Stephens of Riverview, Mich.; daughter, Alice Crowley of Lakewood, Calif.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; two stepsons, Stephen Gnandt of Maiden, N.C. and Frank Gnandt of Owasso, Mich.; two stepdaughters, Maryann Harris of Okeechobee and Elvira Lambert of Marlett, Mich.
Friends may call at the Buxton Funeral Home on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2002, from 10 until 11 a.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Howe-Peterson Funeral Home, 9800 S. Telegraph, Taylor, Michigan.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Okeechobee, P.O. Box 1548, Okeechobee, Fl. 34973.
All local arrangements are under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.
Bert Arthur Carter
Bert Arthur Carter, age 63, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003, at his home in Okeechobee. Mr. Carter was born March 31, 1940, in Miami to Rollo Carter and Laura Yates.
Mr. Carter was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathy Carter.
Survivors include: his wife, Arlene Carter of Okeechobee; son, Michael Carter of Andalusia, Ala.; daughter, Cheryl Durrance of Clewiston; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; stepson, Daniel Edwards of Marion, N.C.; three step-daughters, Angela Arnold and Robin Battle, both of Blountstown and Cynthia Reynolds of Sulfur Springs, Ark.; and, one sister, Wanda Harden of Okeechobee.
Graveside services will be held at Basinger Cemetery in Okeechobee on Friday, Jan. 2, at 11 a.m. Reverend Larry Kilgore from Church of God will be officiating.
All arrangements are entrusted to the loving care of the Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
Patricia Joan Rosencrans
Patricia Joan Rosencrans, age 65, of Okeechobee, died Monday, Dec. 29, 2003, at Raulerson Hospital. Born Nov. 10, 1938, in Scranton, Pa., Mrs. Rosencrans had been a resident of Okeechobee since 1972. She was the former owner of Pat's Place Restaurant in Plantation.
Survivors include: her beloved husband of 48 years, Harry Lester Rosencrans of Okeechobee; son, Steven Rosencrans of Tallahassee; daughters, Patricia Ann Thompson and Michelle Marie Ruf of West Palm Beach and Beth J. Donley of Pompano; seven grandsons, Allen, Harry, Jimmy, Joey, Rodney, Nathan and Travis; one brother, Ronald Coskey of West Pittston, Pa.; and sister, Daiso Maxcy of Redmond, Wash.
There will be no visitation or services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to DAV or the Humane Society.

Sara V. Weddle
Sara V. Weddle, age 85, of Okeechobee, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003, at Raulerson Hospital. Born May 25, 1918, in Dadeville, Ala., Mrs. Weddle had been a resident of Okeechobee for 30 years. She was a member of Fountain of Life Church and her hobbies included reading and sewing.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Weddle.
Survivors include: two daughters, Sue (Harvey Lee II) Ford and Linda (Gary W.) Utt of Okeechobee; grandsons, Joe (Dallas) Smith of Lake Placid, Gary V. Gerber and Harvey Lee Ford, III of Okeechobee; granddaughters, Sara (Kenny) Jackson and Donna Stiller of Okeechobee and Carol Sue (Dean) Turner of Baton Rouge, La.; great grandchildren, Timothy B. Frady, II, Candace Morris and Megan Stiller of Okeechobee, Evangeline Turner of Baton Rouge, La., Gage Smith of Lake Placid; and, great-great grandchild, Garrett O. Frady of Okeechobee.
A memorial service will be conducted at the Fountain of Life Church, 116 S.E. Park St. in Okeechobee on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004 at 2 p.m., with Reverend Joe Bishop, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Martha's House, P.O. Box 727, Okeechobee, Fl. 34973.

Doris Mae Yentes
Doris Mae Yentes, 79, of 707 Meadow Lane St., Died a 7:45 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003, at her residence.
Born Oct. 15, 1924, in Manito to Joe and Mary Watson Lowry, she married Ray Yentes on March 8, 1941, in Kahoka, Mo. He died Nov. 17, 1998.
Surviving are one son, Larry (Phyllis) of San Jose, Mo.; five daughters, Judy (Gordon) Kelly of Delavan, Mo., Cathy (Jerry) Graham, Jeanie (Bob) Willis and Jody Yentes, all of Manito, Mo., and Janet Yentes of San Jose, Mo.; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was a member of the Mason County HEA.
She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star, Celestial City Chapter 333.
Mrs. Yentes was also a member of San Jose United Methodist Church in San Jose, Mo.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Mass Funeral Home. The Reverend Tom Guengerich will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin, Mo.
Memorials may be made to Hopedale Hospital in Hopedale.
Richard Andre Claggett
Richard Andre Claggett, age 59, of Okeechobee, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003, at his residence. Mr. Claggett was born July 23, 1944, in Ft. Myers, to Joseph Claggett, Jr. and Hollis Claggett. Mr. Claggett was an auto mechanic who came to Okeechobee from Ft. Lauderdale in l996.
Mr. Claggett was of the Methodist faith. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines, having served in Hawaii. He was a member of the American Legion in Illinois.
Survivors include: son, Eddy Wenzel of Greenwood, Ind.; and two brothers, Edward and Albert Claggett, both of Florida.
Interment will be at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.

Katie Marie (Glisson) Upthegrove
Katie Marie (Glisson) Upthegrove, age 83, of Palm Springs, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003. Mrs. Upthegove was an area resident since 1968, coming from Pahokee. She was a member of Palm Springs Baptist Church.
Mrs. Upthegrove was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer R. Upthegrove in 1985.
Survivors include: four children, Jerri Norman of Charlotte N.C., Janet Marie Hayes of West Palm Beach, Myrna Dorine Bourgault of Boynton Beach, E. Reed Upthegrove of Palm City; brothers and sister, Carlton D. Glisson of Miami, Mattie Lee Piatt of Charlotte, N.C., Horce Dean Glisson of Naavoo, Ala.; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and, many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 2 until 4 p.m. and from 7 until 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2, at Tillman Funeral Home, 2170 South Military Trail, West Palm Beach.
A Funeral Service will be held at l0 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 3, at Palm Springs Baptist Church, Palm Springs, the Reverend Dennis Postell and the Reverend Richard Englert presiding. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
Samuel J. Davis
Samuel J. Davis, age 58, of Okeechobee, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2001, at his residence. Born March 1, 1943, in Hawthorne, Calif., Mr. Davis retired as a maintenance worker for South Lake Tahoe Public Utilities. Mr. Davis was raised in Okeechobee and returned here after 30 years in California in March of 2001.
He was a member of the Model A Club of America and an active leader in the Boys Scouts. Mr. Davis was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Preceded in death by his parents, Hugh L. and Ruth I. (Ware) Davis.
Survivors include: his wife, Patricia (Taylor) Davis; daughters, Laurie (Jim) Steger of Oxnard, Calif. and Brenda and Samantha Davis, both of Okeechobee; sisters, Patty Davis of Santa Barbara, Calif. and Gerry Frederick of Vero Beach; three grandchildren and numerous Davis family members of Okeechobee also survive him.
There will be no visitation.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Dec. 28, at 11 a.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
All memorials can be sent to Hospice of Okeechobee.

Tommy E. Woodham
Tommy E. Woodham, age 74, of Ozark, Alabama, died Monday, Dec. 24. 2001, at his home following an extended illness.
Mr. Woodham was a native of Dale County, Ala., a veteran of the United States Army serving for seven years during the Korean Conflict. He then made his home in South Florida from 1959 until 1980 when he moved back to Ozark, Ala. While living in Okeechobee, Mr. Woodham owned and operated a retail grocery business. He was a member of the Ozark Church of Christ.
Survivors include: his wife, Jean Tarter Woodham of Ozark, Ala.; daughter, Beth (Rick) Albert of Okeechobee; three sons, Wesley J. Woodham, Wayne (Tarrica) Woodham and Doug Woodham, all of Ozark, Ala., two sisters, Mavis Wright of Midland City and Dorris Akers of Anniston, Ala.; one brother, Luther Woodham of Panama City. Thirteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive him.
Visitation was on Dec. 26, 2001.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Dec. 27, at 11 a.m., at the Holman Funeral Home of Ozark in Alabama with Minister Glen Vanzandt officiating. Interment to follow at the Claybank Cemetery, Alabama.

Lloyd C. Cole
Lloyd C. Cole, age 98, of Okeechobee, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003, in Cicero, Ind. Mr. Cole was born June, 26, 1905, in Tipton County, Ind. to Sanford C. and Mamie Cole. He was a machinist at Biddle Screw and A-1 Compressor and was a Past Master of Hinkle Masonic Lodge 310, York Rite, Scottish Rite and Murat Shriners.
Mr. Cole was preceded in death by his wife Mildred Cole; sons, Lloyd J. and Max G. Cole; and parents Sanford C. and Mamie Cole.
Survivors include: sons, Arnold L. Cole of Okeechobee and Phillip A. Cole of Cicero, Ind.; daughter, Nancy McCracken of Cicero, Ind. six grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 3 great, great grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Dec. 26 from 4 until 8 p.m. at the McMullan Funeral Home. The funeral will be Dec. 27 at 10:30 a.m. at McMullan Funeral Home with interment being held at 12:30 at Cook Cemetery Elwood.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Hinkle Masonic Lodge in Deming, Ind.
