Shirley L. Kerr
Shirley L. Kerr, age 78, of Greenwood, Ind., died Dec. 13, 2003. She lived in the Okeechobee area six months each year. She was born May 25, 1925, in Logansport, Ind. Her parents were Fredrick and Juanita (Babcock) Kuhn. She was a 1944 graduate of Peru High School and was employed for over 30 years by Ind. Bell Co. as a secretary. Mrs. Kerr was a member of Gamma Nu sorority. She married James Kerr on May 25, 1967.
Survivors include: her loving husband, James Kerr; son, David Reep (Louise) of Kokomo, Ind.; daughter, Susie Blackman (Steve) of Indianapolis; sister, Ramona Summers (Bill) of Peru; aunt, Evelyn Steltz; and, four grandchildren.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Dec. 16, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service, Singleton & Herr Southport Chapel, Indianapolis, Ind.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m.
Interment will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Greenwood, Ind.
Mary Dorothy Newton
Mary Dorothy Newton, age 86, of Lake Placid, died Dec. 13, 2003, at her residence. Mrs. Newton was born in Ft. Pierce and is a fourth generation pioneering family member of Ft. Pierce, and also lived in Okeechobee for 25 years. She was a member of the Okeechobee Church of God.
Mrs. Newton is preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Newton and her son, Ralph Delane Newton.
Survivors include: four daughters, Ann "Noveleen" Modine of Inverness, Grace Bonnette (Huey) of Lake Placid, Karen Fletcher of Lehigh Acres, and Cindy Paschal of Ft. Pierce; nine grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; one sister, Loretta Collier of Sebring; and, also by numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Buxton Funeral Home on Wednesday, Dec. 17, from 5 until 7 p.m. Services will be held at the Okeechobee Church of God on Thursday, Dec. 18, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Larry R. Kilgore officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to LifePath Hospice, 3010 W. Azeele Street, Tampa 33609.

Arlene Johns
Arlene Johns, age 81, of Brighton Seminole Indian Reservation in Okeechobee, died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2003, at Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood. Born June 10, 1922, in Fort Pierce, Miss Johns had been a lifetime resident of the Okeechobee area. She loved to play Bingo and was a member of the First Indian Baptist Church in Brighton.
Survivors include: her son, Willie Johns of Okeechobee; daughters, Helene Buster of Okeechobee and Julie Driggers of Venus; grandsons, Marty Johns of Okeechobee and Adale Driggers of Venus; granddaughters, Timi Bearden and Lisa Osceola of Okeechobee, Linda Daum, and Alana Driggers of Venus and Jodi Clay of Hollywood; and, 14 great grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Buxton Funeral Home on Tuesday, Dec. 16, from 4 until 6 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, Dec. 17, at 10 a.m., at the First Indian Baptist Church in Brighton. Reverend Tony Bullington will officiate and interment will follow in Ortona Cemetery.

Lorene S. Baldwin
Lorene S. Baldwin, age 82, of Okeechobee, died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003 at her residence. Born Sept. 28, 1921 in West Frankfort, Ill., Mrs. Baldwin had been a resident of Okeechobee for 21 years.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Heather Ann Baldwin.
Survivors include: her beloved husband of 55 years, Louis R. Baldwin of Okeechobee; three sons, Larry Baldwin of Connersville, Ind., Tony Baldwin of Lakeland and Jeff Baldwin of Greenfield, Ohio; granddaughters, Bonnie, Rea, Angela, and Mysty; four great grandchildren; and, one sister, Maurine Gunn of Okeechobee.
Funeral services and interment are under the direction of Parker-Reddy Funera1 Home in West Frankfort, Ill.

Floyrene P. Kuntz
Floyrene P. Kuntz, age 84, of Okeechobee, died Friday, Dec. 12, 2003 at Raulerson Hospital. Born Aug. 18, 1919 in Wichita Falls, Texas, Mrs. Kuntz had been a resident of Okeechobee since 1998.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ross F. Kuntz; brother, Jack Cummins; and, sister, Arvella Dewhitt.
Survivors include: her daughter, Anne (Al) Goldstein of Okeechobee; and sister, Mary Elizabeth Cummins of Dallas, Texas.
Friends may call at the Restland Funeral Home, Abby Chapel, Greenville Avenue at Restland Road in Dallas, Texas, on Wednesday, Dec. 17, from 11 a.m. until the funeral service time at 1 p.m. Dr. Michael Waco will officiate and interment will follow in Restland Cemetery in Dallas.

Thomas E. Patterson
Thomas E. Patterson, age 89, of Okeechobee, died Monday, Dec. 10, 2001, at his residence. Born Sept. 25, 1912, in Rosebud, Ark., Mr. Patterson, had been a resident of Okeechobee for 21 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Trudy.
Survivors include: son, William J. Patterson and his wife, Penny of Huntsville, Ala.; daughter, Gail Patterson Byrd of West Palm Beach; two grandsons, Mark Patterson of Huntsville, Ala. and Ryan Patrick Byrd of West Palm Beach; granddaughter, Beth Patterson Peirce of Huntsville, Ala.; two brothers, Coy Patterson of Rosedale, Miss. and Ishmial Patterson of Merygold, Miss.; and sister, Jewell Boggs of Knoxville, Tenn.
Friends may call at the Buxton Funeral Home on Friday, Dec. 14, from 10 until 11 a.m.
Funeral service will follow on Friday, Dec. 14, at 11 a.m. with Reverend Richard E. Whipple officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.

Julian E. Beecham
Julian E. Beecham, age 71, of Okeechobee, died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003, at his residence. He was born March 29, 1932, in Donovan, Ga. to Louis and Jessie Beecham. Mr. Beecham moved to Okeechobee in 1951 from Hialeah and was a repairman.
Mr. Beecham was preceded in death by: his wife, Joan; and, his son, Billy Beecham.
Survivors include: one son, Neil Beecham of Okeechobee; four sisters, Patricia Jones, Lilline Thompson, both of Okeechobee, Louise Stanley of Ft. Myers and Rose Marie McDonald of Kissimmee; four grandchildren; and, one great grandchild.
Graveside services will on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, at 10 a.m., at the Basinger Cemetery.

Roberta M. "Bobbe" Frazier
Roberta M. "Bobbe" Frazier, 81, died Saturday, Dec. 8, at Ball memorial Hospital in Muncie, Indiana.
She was born in Muncie and graduated from Burris High School in 1939. She lived most of her life in Muncie, but wintered in Okeechobee for many years.
She was employed at N.G. Gilbert in Muncie as bookkeeper prior to her retirement.
Mrs. Frazier devoted many years of volunteer work for the libraries in Muncie and Okeechobee entering data into computers from the archives of libraries.
She was a member of Antioch Church of the Brethren in Muncie; a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution where she served as secretary of the chapter in Florida; and a member of the Genealogical Society.
She took great pride in her history of the Antioch Church of the Brethren and was known for her paintings and stained glass work.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford H. "Doc" Frazier; her parents, Ray L and Essie Doris Millspaugh Miller; her brother, Eugene Miller; and three sisters, Virginia Miller Allison, Vera Miller Greenwalt and Doris Miller McMurtrie.
She is survived by her sister, Muriel Miller Connor, Terre Haute; 14 nieces and nephews; and numerous grand nieces and nephews.
Services will be 230 p.m. Tuesday in The Meeks Mortuary Chapel in Muncie with Rev. Bob Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Jones Cemetery in Muncie.
Friends may call at the mortuary after 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Memorials may be made to the libraries in Muncie and Okeechobee, or to0 the Delaware County historical Alliance.
Daniel Miles Berry
Daniel Miles Berry, age 85, of Okeechobee, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003, at Raulerson Hospital. He was born April 29, 1918, in Taylorsport, Ky.
Mr. Berry served in the U.S. Army during WWII in Europe. He was a retired federal employee with GSA and was a member of the Okeechobee Christian Church. Mr. Berry was a foster parent for 15 years.
Mr. Berry was preceded in death by his parents, Sadie and Miles Berry.
Survivors include: his beloved wife of 26 years, Janet M. Berry; daughters, Maryanne Baker (Robin) of Walton, Ky., Debbie Fields of Healdsburg, Calif., Alice Fields of Watsonville, Calif. and Ashley Berry of Okeechobee; sons, Walton Fields (June) of Lakewood, Wash., Daniel Berry (Adriana) of Okeechobee, Joseph, Jason and Willie Berry, all of Okeechobee; sister, Shirley Dixon of Gratis, Ohio; brother, James Berry (Doris) of Clearwater; six grandchildren; and, five great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Buxton Funeral Home on Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, from 5 until 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, in the Buxton Funeral Home Chapel with Associate Pastor Danny Berry II of the Okeechobee Christian Church officiating. Private interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery.

Fred Lanier Hodges
Fred Lanier Hodges, age 79, of Okeechobee, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003, at his residence. Mr. Hodges was born Feb. 19, 1924, in Hahira, Ga., to Edward and Mary Hodges. Mr. Hodges was in the Army Air Corp. He was an airplane and engine mechanic during WWII. After leaving the military, he sold real estate in Ft. Lauderdale and Okeechobee. Mr. Hodges was a very vital part of Okeechobee county, moving here in 1956. His interests included real estate, hunting, boating, and fishing. Mr. Hodges owned and operated Hodges Motor sales since 1958.
He served with the Okeechobee County Search and Rescue and also Okeechobee County School Board from 1972 until 1980, and was a member of the Police Auxiliary.
Mr. Hodges was preceded in death by his mother and father.
Survivors include: his loving wife, Betty Hodges of Okeechobee; three sons, John E. (Angie) Hodges, Charles E. (Judy) Hodges and Pastor Fred L. (Gayle) Hodges, all of Okeechobee; one daughter, Bonnie J. (Lee) Tedders of Williston; one brother, James (Betty Jane) Hodges of Greenville, S.C.; seven grandchildren; and, one great granddaughter.
Visitation will be at the Bass Funeral Home on Friday, Dec. 12, from 4 until 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Oakview Baptist Church on Saturday, Dec. 13 at 2 p.m., with Reverend Joe Bishop and Pastor John Keith officiating.
Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery.

Kenneth J. Maddox
Kenneth J. Maddox, age 84, of Okeechobee, died Monday, Dec. 8, 2003, at Hendry General Hospital in Clewiston. Mr. Maddox was a resident of Okeechobee for 31 years and had served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include: his wife of 31 years, Dorothy Maddox; four sons, Kenneth Maddox (Teresa) of Mississippi, Terry Maddox (Janet) and Meldon Maddox (Diane) of Indiana and James Maddox of North Florida; one brother, Palm Maddox of Illinois; and, 14 grandchildren.
There will be no visitation or services.
