Mary Gnandt Stephens
Mary Gnandt Stephens, age 91, of Okeechobee, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003, at the Okeechobee Health Care Facility. Mrs. Stephens was born in Hungary on Aug. 16, 1912 and moved to the United States as a young teenage girl. She had been a resident of Okeechobee since 1987.
Mrs. Stephens was preceded in death by: her first husband, Steve Gnandt and her second husband, Carl Stephens.
Survivors include: two sons, Stephen Gnandt of Maiden, N.C. and Frank Gnandt of Owaso, Mich.; two daughters, Mary Ann Harris of Okeechobee and Elvira Lambert of Marlette, Mich.; six step-sons, Bill, Jerry, Jim, Ed, Wal and Paul Stephens; one step-daughter, Alice Crowley; 13 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; numerous great- great grandchildren; and, a host of step- grandchildren and step- great grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Buxton Funeral Home on Thursday, Dec. 11 from 3 until 5 p.m. Additional viewing will be conducted at the Marsh Funeral home on Monday, Dec. 15, in Marlette, Mich.
A Funeral Mass will be conducted at the Catholic church in Marlette, Mich. on Tuesday, Dec. 16 at 11 a.m., with interment at St. Michael's Cemetery in Wilmont, Mich.

Eli Pomarolli
Eli Pomarolli, age 91, of Okeechobee, died Dec. 9, 2003, at his residence. He was born Nov. 2, 1912, in Franklin, Kan.
Mr. Pomarolli moved to Florida from Detroit where he had lived most of his adult life. He was a Florida resident for over twenty years, with twelve years in Okeechobee.
Mr. Pomarolli was employed with Mazur-Crestman Cigar Company for five years, with Kermath-Marine Engines for 19 (he made PT boat engines during WWII), and with Kirlin Lighting, where he was a master tool room machinist, for 19 years.
Growing up in the big band era, he was an accomplished ballroom dancer who loved to dance. Other hobbies included fishing, gardening, and travel.
Mr. Pomarolli was preceded in death by: his parents, Albert and Augusta (Conci) Pomarolli, of Trento, Italy, and by his wife, Catherine Burke Pomarolli of 60 years; and, by sisters Carmen Biederman of Michigan and Delphine Fritz of California.
Survivors include: his wife of five years, Gloria; sons, Richard Pomarolli (Barbara) of Greensboro, Ga.; Thomas Pomarolli (Diana) of Farmington, Mich.; granddaughter, Kerri of Los Angeles, Calif.; grandson, Mark Pomarolli of San Diego, Calif.; stepdaughter, Brenda Saunders (Neil) of Evansville, Ind.; and, step-grandsons, Paul, Andrew, and Derrick.
Friends may call on Friday, Dec. 12, from 10 until 11 a.m., at Buxton Funeral Home.
Funeral services will follow at l1 a.m., with Chaplain Ken Geren of Good Shepherd Hospice officiating. A private burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.

James Leslie Lamb
James Leslie Lamb, age 90, of Okeechobee, died Thursday, Dec. 6, at Raulerson Hospital. Born Oct. 15, 1911 in Darlington, England, Mr. Lamb had been a resident of Okeechobee since 1997. He was a member of Bethel Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Mary Lamb of Okeechobee; son and daughter-in-law, Charles Eddie and Shirley Lamb of Okeechobee; and grandson, John Lindsay Lamb and wife, Donna of Dunedin.
Friends may call at the Buxton Funeral Home on Saturday, Dec. 8, from 4 until 6 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted in the Buxton Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday, Dec. 9, at 3 p.m., with Reverend Jim Hudson, Pastor of Church of the Nazarene, officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.
Louise Willison Thompson
Louise Willison Thompson, age 77, of Okeechobee, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, at Raulerson Hospital.
Born in Marion, Ohio on May 20, 1924, Mrs. Thompson and her husband moved to Missouri and established the Linga Longa Resort on the Lake of the Ozarks, where they raised five children. After her husband's death in 1967, she moved to Florida in 1973 and has resided in Okeechobee since 1983. Mrs. Thompson was a member of the Okeechobee VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries.
Preceded in death by her husband, Robert Charles Willison.
Survivors include: her husband Norman "Tom" Thompson of Okeechobee; son, Charles (Brenda) Willison of Edwards, Mo.; four daughters, Carol Benedict of Okeechobee, Charby L. Jenkins of Edwards, Mo., Susan Wiess of Honolulu, Hawaii and Bobbi (Doug) White of Murray, Iowa. In addition, she is survived by 16 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Buxton Funeral Home on Saturday, Dec. 8, from 10 until 11 a.m.
Graveside services will be conducted on Saturday, Dec. 15, at 2 p.m., at Greenridge Cemetery in Climax Springs, Mo.

Naomi Ruth Brette
Naomi Ruth Brette, age 84, died Monday, Dec. 8, 2003, at Raulerson Hospital. Ms. Brette was born Oct. 11, 1919, to Reverend Walter and Nellie Whidden.
Ms. Brette was retired from the county clerk's office. She was a member of the Church of God where her father was the minister.
Ms. Brette was preceded in death by: her husband, Dalton Brette; and, her three brothers, Emery Whidden, Murl Whidden and Maxie Whidden.
Survivors include: two daughters, Linda Brette and Johnnie Ruth (Joe) Fralix, both of Okeechobee; one sister, Eva Mae Williams of Okeechobee; one grandson, Shane (Erin) Fralix; and, one great granddaughter, Hannah Fralix, all of Okeechobee.
visitation will be Wednesday, Dec. 10 from 4 until 7 p.m. at the Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 11, at 11 a.m., with Reverend Larry Killgore officiating.

Frederick Raymond Chaney
Frederick Raymond Chaney, age 73, of Okeechobee, died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003, at Raulerson Hospital. He was born Dec. 25, 1929, in Des Moines, Iowa to Ralph Irvin and Sophie Clark Chaney.
Mr. Chaney was an U.S. Army veteran who served during WWII in the military police stationed in Germany. He was chief inspector for the oil-gas business for fifty years. Mr. Chaney was a 32nd degree mason and member of the Shriners of Ill.
Mr. Chaney was preceded in death by his daughter, Tammy Davis.
Survivors include: his wife of 45 years, Freda Chaney; two daughters, Bobbi Boynton and Jacki Chaney, both of West Palm Beach; one son, Reverend Albert Andrew Chaney of Litchfield, Ill.; five grandchildren; and, seven great grandchildren.
No visitation or services will be held.
Memorials may be made to the Shriner's Cripple Children's Hospital, mailed to Okeechobee Shriner's Club at 1855 S.W. 53rd St.

Dorothea D. Curley
Dorothea D. Curley, age 87, of Okeechobee, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003, at Susan's Manor, Inc. She was born March 18, 1916, in Camden, N.J. to Roy and Mary Deutscher. Ms. Curley was a housewife and a resident of Okeechobee for three years coming from Ocean City, N.J.
Ms. Curley was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
Survivors include: step-daughter, Bonnie Graeter of Ephrata, Pa.; three sisters, Mabel E. Coleman of Okeechobee, Winnifred Eldridge of Okeechobee, and Thelma Munn of Port St. Lucie.
Graveside service will be held in Cherry Hill, N.J.

Milton Rhoden
Milton Rhoden, age 79,of Okeechobee, died Dec. 4, 2003, at his home. He was born Aug. 11, 1924, in Lake Wales, to John and Olivia Rhoden.
Mr. Rhoden was the superintendent of county roads for Okeechobee.
Mr. Rhoden was preceded in death by his son and daughter.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Rhoden of Okeechobee; two sons, Mike Rhoden and John (Mandy) Rhoden; two daughters, Sue (Jimmy) Kemp and Mary Jane (Gilbert) Schoonmaker all of Okeechobee; brother Herbert Rhoden of Abbieville, Ala.; four sisters, Dewilda Boney, Johnnie Johns, Deloris Vickers all of Okeechobee, and Dora Helen Ishi of St. Louis, Mo.; eight grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. Visitation will be Saturday, Dec. 6, from 1 until 4 p.m. at Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Sunday Dec. 7, at 2 p.m. at the Church of God with Reverend Walter Montz and Reverend Clifford Kilgore officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.

Ramona Lee Blum
Ramona Lee Blum, age 72, of Okeechobee, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, at Raulerson Hospital. Born March 6, 1929, in Olin, Iowa, to Cecil and Neta (Emerson) Miner. Mrs. Blum was a homemaker and moved to Okeechobee from North Buena Vista, Iowa in 1985. She was a 48-year member of the American Legion Post No. 64.
Survivors include: her husband of 51 years, Martin J. Blum of Okeechobee; sons, Steven (Pearlene) Blum of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Paul (Patricia) Blum of Denver, Colo.; daughter, Susan (Richard) Smith of Atlanta, Ga.; sister, Carol Alberts of Iowa; granddaughter, Molly of Denver, Colo. In addition, her special pet O'Riley survives her.
Visitation is Friday, Dec. 7, from 8 until 9 a.m., at Bass Funeral Home.
Funeral services to follow on Friday, Dec. 7, at 9 a.m. at Bass Funeral Home with Deacon Gaetan Serre of Sacred Heart Catholic Church officiating.
There will be a private family burial service held on Friday in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell.
Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Association.

Charles D. VanDyne
Charles D. VanDyne, age 72, of Okeechobee, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003 at Lawnwood Medical Center in Ft. Pierce.
Mr. VanDyne retired after 30 years as a pressman with the Palm Beach Post and has been a resident of Okeechobee for 10 years.
Survivors include: his wife, Patricia; one son, Daniel Thomas VanDyne (Kim) of Loxahatchee; daughter, Deborah Pyy of Lawrenceville, Ga.; three granddaughters, Megan VanDyne of Loxahatchee, Chrissy and Shelly Pyy of Lawrenceville, Ga.; stepson, Johnathan Boykin (Samantha); step granddaughter, Trinity of Boynton Beach; and, sister, Sandra of Orlando.
There will be no viewing or services.

John Allen Hayes
John Allen Hayes, age 22, of Okeechobee, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003 at his residence. He was a lifetime resident of Okeechobee.
Mr. Hayes was preceded in death by: his brother, Bobby Joe Hayes, Jr.
Survivors include: his father, Bobby Joe Hayes, Sr. (Polly Ann) of Okeechobee; mother, Tina Dunn of Georgia; great aunt Irene Mildred Lofton of Okeechobee; half brothers, Steve Osceola, Mitchell Osceola, and Kevin Osceola, all of Brighton; half sister, Sandy also of Brighton; maternal great grandmother, Edie of Buckhead Ridge; maternal great grandfather, Kenny Landrum of Jacksonville; companion, Carmen Espada of Okeechobee; uncle, Donald Hayes (Helen) of Okeechobee; Uncle Leland Litner of Sebring; and, cousins, Sursha Ann Hayes and son Shane Crawford of Okeechobee, Donald Hayes Jr., of Okeechobee, Allison Hayes Vickers of Okeechobee and Crystal Hayes of Okeechobee.

June C. Hollingsworth
June C. Hollingsworth, age 73, of Okeechobee, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at Raulerson Hospital.
Mrs. Hollingsworth was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Hollingsworth; two sons, Michael D. and Robert V. Hollingsworth.
Survivors include: son, James C. Hollingsworth of Ft. Pierce; daughter, Tena Certain of Lagrange, Ind.; grandsons, Ronald A. Phillips Jr. of Ft. Pierce, Michael James Hollingsworth of Port St. Lucie, and John Certain of Lagrange, Ind.; a great granddaughter, Ashlynne Nicol Phillips of Howe, Ind.: and her dearest friends, Dutch and Ruby Byars of Okeechobee.
There will be no visitation or services.
