Annemarie C. Mears, age 79, of Okeechobee, died Sunday, June 29, 2003, at Okeechobee Health Care Facility. Born Dec. 26, 1923, in Roermond, Limburg, Holland, Mrs. Mears had been a resident of Okeechobee since 1971. For 16 years, she managed the canteen at the Florida School for Boys and the Eckerd Youth Development Center. She loved to play bingo and was of the Episcopal faith. During World War II Annemarie was a slave laborer in Germany.
Survivors include: her beloved husband of 57 years, Carroll W. Mears of Okeechobee; three children, William A. (Margaret) Mears of Fort Myers, Robert V. (Terisa Suarez) Mears of Okeechobee and Margaret E. (J. Carlos) Garcia of Davie; six grandchildren, Alec, Neill, Danielle, Andrew, Kaylee, Christopher, B.J., David and Stephanie.
There will be no viewing or services.
Entombment will be in All Saints Cemetery in Jensen Beach.

Mae O. Waldron
Mae O. Waldron, age 90, of Okeechobee, died Sunday, June 29, 2003, at Raulerson Hospital.
Born in Okeechobee on Dec. 18, 1912, Mrs. Waldron has been a lifetime resident of Okeechobee.
She was preceded in death by husbands; Oscar Leitner, Sheldon Carnes and Louis Waldron; one daughter, Josephine; one son, Howard; four brothers; and nine sisters.
Mrs. Waldron is survived by three sons, William Leitner, Dan Leitner and Cecil (Margie) Leitner; one daughter, Leola (Richard) Carter, all of Okeechobee; 15 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
Friends may call on Tuesday, July 1, 2003, from 4 until 7 p.m., at the Buxton Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, July 2, 2003, at 11 a.m., at the Buxton Funeral Home Chapel.
Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.

Morris Edwin Burke
Morris Edwin Burke, age 75, of Okeechobee, died Friday, June 27, 2003, at Martin Memorial Medical Center in Stuart. Born June 24, 1928, in Dorton, Ky., Mr. Burke, formerly of Indiantown, had been a resident of Okeechobee for 12 years. His hobbies included golf, fishing and family.
Survivors include: his beloved wife of 54 years, Ethel Burke of Okeechobee; daughter, MaDonna (Robert) Boehm of Okeechobee; grandson, Jeff (Madeline) Boehm of Lake Worth; great-grandson, Christien Boehm of Lake Worth; two brothers, Gene (Ruby) Burke of Southgate, Mich., and Roger (Darlene) Burke of Bidwell, Ohio; four sisters, Henrietta Quickel of Dearborn, Mich., Nenita (John) Roberts of Stuart, Burlene (Jerry) Chase of Texas, and Doris (Ray) Winner of Columbus, Ohio, also survives him.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 30, from 4 until 7 p.m., at the Buxton Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, July 1, at 11 a.m., at the Buxton Funeral Home Chapel. Interment and graveside service will be at 1 p.m., in Port Mayaca Cemetery.

Elsie June Grapevine
Elsie June Grapevine, age 48, of Lakeland, died Tuesday, June 24, 2003, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. Born Nov. 23, 1954, in Okeechobee, she had been a resident of Lakeland since 1992. She was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church and her hobbies included cooking, gardenias, flower arranging and baking cakes.
She was preceded in death by her father, William Yates.
Survivors include: her beloved husband of 18 years, Bruce Grapevine of Lakeland; son, William (Kelly) Underwood of Okeechobee; daughters, Laurie (Shannon Peterson) Underwood of Okeechobee and Lisa (Marcus Johnson) Underwood of Lakeland; three grandchildren, Aaliyah Johnson of Lakeland, Makayla and Megan Underwood of Okeechobee; mother, Mary Yates Tripp; five brothers, Randy, Cody, Russell and Jeff Yates and Daniel Tripp, all of Okeechobee; and three sisters, Sue Bryson, Helen Reynold and Alma Burkhart, all of Okeechobee.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 27, from 5 until 7 p.m., at the Buxton Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, June 28, at 10 a.m., at the Buxton Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Basinger Cemetery.

Marian Cypress Bowers
Marian Cypress Bowers, age 90, of Brighton Seminole Indian Reservation in Okeechobee, died Wednesday, June 25, 2003, at Raulerson Hospital. Born July 4, 1912, in Dade County, the daughter of Wilson and Ruby Fewell Cypress. She was a member of the Seminole Bible Baptist Church of Brighton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick Bowers.
Survivors include: three sons, Dan (Agnes) Bowers of Brighton, Paul (Linda) Bowers and Richard Bowers, Jr. of Big Cypress; three daughters, Rachel (John) Bowers Pigeon of Brighton, Bobbie L. Billie of Big Cypress and Edna Bowers of Hollywood; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren also survive her.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 27, from 7 until 11 p.m., at the Seminole Bible Baptist Church. Funeral services and interment will be conducted on Saturday, June 28, at 10 a.m., at Ortona Cemetery, with Reverend Howard Micco and Reverend Johnny Tucker officiating.

David J. "Jack" Harris
David J. "Jack" Harris, age 73, of Okeechobee, died Sunday, June 22, 2003, at his residence. Born Aug. 29, 1929, in Detroit, Mich., Mr. Harris had been a resident of Okeechobee since February 1985. He was a member of the John Wayne Fan Club. Mr. Harris was fortunate to be able to celebrate Father's Day with all five of his children this year.
Mr. Harris was preceded in death by his parents, Fleming Will Harris and Nora Lee Cook Harris.
Survivors include; his wife of 51 years, Mary Ann Harris of Okeechobee; two sons, David (Martha) Harris of Carleton, Mich., and Jeffrey (Lupita) Harris of Humble, Texas; three daughters, Cyndi (George) Hudgins of Taylor, Mich., Susan J. Fazekas of Okeechobee and Lisa (Jeff) Lewis of Humble, Texas; 17 grandchildren, Christine, Amanda, Carrie, Ryan, Nathan, David, Mallorie, Kyle, Jacob, Nikki, Alden, Samantha, Kamdyn, Micah, Abbie, Jonah and Mateah; six great-grandchildren, Jazmine, Adaacha', John, Nicholas, Anthony and Jessanie; and two sisters, Edith Hartoon and Janie LaPointe, both of Michigan.

Calvin R. Schwartz
Calvin R. Schwartz, age 77, of Okeechobee, died June 15, 2003, in Okeechobee.
Mr. Schwartz was born July 4, 1925, in Wilkinsburg, Penn., son of Edward C. and Tillie E. (Wilhelm) Schwartz. He was an auto mechanic by trade.
Survivors include: his wife, Alice A. Schwartz of Okeechobee; one son, Jim Schwartz of Boca Raton; one daughter, Donna Schwartz of Pompano Beach; four grandchildren; and one great-grandson also survives him.
There will be a remembrance mass Thursday, June 26, at 8:30 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Father Hugh Duffy will officiate.

Hazel "Jo" Riddle
Hazel "Jo" Riddle, age 78, of Chilton, Wis., died June 19, 2003.
Mrs. Riddle was born March 3, 1925, in Pleasanton, Kan., daughter of William and Beulah Gobel. She had lived for the past 17 years in Okeechobee and most recently in Chilton, Wis. Mrs. Riddle worked as a seamstress at Klinke's Cleaners and always loved sewing and crocheting.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Riddle.
Survivors include: two daughters, Denise (Rich) Stoker of Chilton, Wis. and Donna (Bob) Maly of Beaver Dam, Wis.; one son, Dennis (Fay) Riddle of LaGrange, Ga.; three grandchildren, Lauren Riddle, Jeffrey (Norma) Maly and Jennifer (Gregg) Kandutsch; and two great-granddaughters, Madison Kandutsch and Haley Matson also survive her.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 24, at 1 p.m., at Gunderson Funeral Home in Madison, Wis. Visitation is scheduled from noon until the time of the service.

Geraldine Thomas Stanley
Geraldine Thomas Stanley, age 88, of Okeechobee, died Friday, June 20, 2003, in Vero Beach. She was born June 15, 1915, in Okeechobee to Carlisle and Fay Hulsey Thomas. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Survivors include; her devoted husband of 64 years, John Stanley of Okeechobee; son, John T. (Vickie) Stanley of Tampa; two daughters, Dorothy (Lloyd) Johnston of Charlotte, N.C. and Linda (Jimmy) Pauley of Fort Pierce; eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Gladys Lowe of Okeechobee; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Graveside services and interment will be conducted at Evergreen Cemetery on Wednesday, June 25, 2003, at 11 a.m., with Elder McMillian officiating.

Ruby Arlene Mangino
Ruby Arlene Mangino, age 68, of Okeechobee and Tullahoma, Tenn., died Saturday, June 21, 2003, at her residence in Okeechobee. Born Dec. 24, 1934, in Franklin County, Ala., Mrs. Mangino had been a seasonal resident here since 1992.
Survivors include: her husband of 38 years, Charles Mangino; two sons, Victor Mangino and Charles S. Mangino of Tullahoma, Tenn.; daughter, Deborah Cleveland of Tullahoma, Tenn.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are under the direction of Colbert Memorial Chapel in Tuscumbia, Ala. Interment will be in Franklin Memorial Cemetery in Russellville, Ala.

Harold E. Skaggs
Harold E. Skaggs, age 83, of Okeechobee, died Friday, June 20, 2003, at his residence. Born Oct. 13, 1919, in Bellaire, Ohio, Mr. Skaggs later moved to West Palm Beach and became a permanent resident of Okeechobee in 1976 and worked as a licensed carpenter, building residential and commercial buildings and belonging to the Carpenters local in West Palm Beach. Mr. Skaggs served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of: the Okeechobee Masonic Lodge 237, being raised to the sublime degree of a Master Mason in 1957; the Scottish Rite of Lake Worth; charter member of the Amara Temple in Palm Beach Gardens and of the Okeechobee Shrine Club; lifetime member of the VFW Post 10539; and a member of the Oakview Baptist Church.
Preceded in death by: his parents, William and Geneva; his son, Harold "Sandy"; two brothers; and two sisters.
Survivors include: his wife of 23 years, Roseanne; his daughters, Linda (John) Maheu; Patricia (Silas) Cook, of Okeechobee and Elizabeth Paulus of Canton, Ohio; sons, Robert Paulus and Jeff Cimato of Ft. Lauderdale and William (Carrie) Paulus of Mogadore, Ohio; daughter-in-law, Karen Skaggs of North Palm Beach; grandchildren; Donna (Scott) Durand and John "Snoot" (Beth) Maheu of Okeechobee, Kristie (Brian) Cramer of Talmadge, Ohio, Casey, Emily and Billie Paulus of Mogadore, Ohio, Nathanial and Jaime Bueno and Brian Paulus of Canton, Ohio; great-granddaughter, Kasey and Baby, Durand of Okeechobee; and great-grandson, Marshall Lassitter of Okeechobee. Mr. Skaggs was survived by brothers, Frank Skaggs of Bellaire, Ohio, and Clyde Skaggs of New York state.
Visitation was held on Monday, June 23, from 5 until 7 p.m., at the Buxton Funeral Home. Funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, June 24, at 10 a.m., at the Buxton Funeral Home Chapel, with Masonic services, followed by the message from Pastor John Keith of Oakview Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.

Darlene K. Collier, age 61, of Lakeport, died Thursday, June 19, 2003, in Naples. Born Jan. 18, 1942, in Omaha, Neb., Mrs. Collier was formerly of Naples.

Charles E. Williams, age 80, of Okeechobee, died Thursday, June 19, 2003, at Raulerson Hospital. Born Nov. 8, 1922, in Cuba, Ohio, Mr. Williams had been a resident of Okeechobee for 20 years. He attended Oakview Baptist Church.
Survivors include: his loving and devoted wife of 58 years, Phyllis Williams of Okeechobee; two sons, Denver Lee Williams of Orgonia, Ohio and Roland E. Williams of Tallahassee; daughter, Patricia Doak of Wilmington, Ohio; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be conducted on Sunday, June 22, at 2 p.m., at Oakview Baptist Church, 677 S.W. 32 St., Okeechobee, with Reverend Dr. John Keith, Pastor, officiating.
