Esther Hicks Hefner Hoyle
Esther Hicks Hefner Hoyle, age 77, of Lakeland and formerly of Hickory, N.C. and Okeechobee, died June 19, 2003, at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory, N.C. Born May 2, 1926, in Avery County, N.C., daughter of Burnie and Mary Yandles Hicks. After moving to Florida, Mrs. Hoyle and her first husband owned and operated Carolina Furniture for many years with locations in both Fort Lauderdale and Okeechobee. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Lakeland.
Mrs. Hoyle was preceded in death by her first husband, John Hefner, and an infant son, Burnie Wayne Hefner.
Survivors include: her husband, Joel Thomas Hoyle of Lakeland; two daughters, Brenda (Ron) Sweet of Lakeland and Gail (Eldon) Caldwell of Hickory, N.C.; son, Allen Hefner of Dania Beach; nine grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren also survive her.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 23, at 10 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Gibsonian Ward in Lakeland. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Fort Lauderdale.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Family History Center, 119 Mtn. Oak Lane, Hickory, N.C. 28601.
The Bass-Smith Funeral Home in Hickory, N.C. is serving the Hoyle family.

Vernon Caster Carter
Vernon Caster Carter, age 78, of Okeechobee, died Monday, June 16, 2003, at her residence. Born May 17, 1925, in Fort Drum, the daughter of John and Julia E. Roberts Norman. Mrs. Carter was a lifetime resident of Okeechobee.
Preceded in death by her husband James Carter and three children.
Survivors include: her son, Howard Carter of Jacksonville; daughter, Mary Carter of Okeechobee; granddaughter, Raisa Raven Raulerson of Okeechobee; two brothers, Ephraim Norman and Alfred Norman of Okeechobee; three sisters, Stella Rowland of Avon Park, Bertice Harper of Live Oak and Josephine Bennett of Okeechobee; and many nieces and nephews also survive her.
Graveside funeral services and interment will be held on Friday, June 20, at 11 a.m., at the Fort Drum Cemetery.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.

Ray Eldon Stahl
Ray Eldon Stahl, age 70, of Okeechobee, died Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at Raulerson Hospital. Born Feb. 22, 1933, in Republic, Ohio, Mr. Stahl had been a resident of Okeechobee for 2.5 years. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea for two years and was a member of the American Legion Post 64, Buckhead Ridge VFW, AmVets and DAV. He was a lock tender in Buckhead Ridge.
He was preceded in death by one son, Brad Stahl.
Survivors include: his beloved wife of 21 years, Jeanette Stahl of Okeechobee; one son, Bruce Stahl of Santa Cruz, Calif.; one daughter, Rae Ann Stahl Sukarma of San Jose, Calif.; four stepdaughters, Denise Pfaff of Bloomville, Ohio; Cindi Lehmann of Fostoria, Ohio, Kimberly Albert of North Carolina and Danette Keeran of Findley, Ohio; two grandchildren; 12 step grandchildren; and nine step great-grandchildren also survive him.
There will be no visitation or services.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.

Gary Garcia
Gary Garcia, age 15, of Okeechobee, died Monday, June 16, 2003, in Okeechobee. Born Nov. 25, 1987, in Fort Pierce, Gary was a lifetime resident of Okeechobee and attended Osceola Middle School. He was a member of the Prince of Peace Pentecostal Church, Low Riders Bicycle Club and Proulujo Car Club.
Preceded in death by: his grandparents, Juan Cortez, Sr. and Ramona Cortez; uncles, Jose Cortez and Ruben Cortez; and aunt, Viola Cardona.
Survivors include: his father, Genaro Garcia, Sr. of Okeechobee; mother, Evelyn Concepcion of Key West; brother, Genaro Garcia, Jr. of Okeechobee; six sisters, Sonia Garcia, Mary Garcia, Ramona Garcia and Jennifer Garcia, all of Port St. Lucie, Gloria Garcia and Evelyn Garcia, both of Okeechobee; uncles, Juan Cortez, Jr. and Ramiro Cortez, both of Okeechobee; and aunts, Guadalupe Ponce and Rosa Espada, both of Okeechobee, also survives him.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 23, from 10 a.m. until funeral service time at 11 a.m., at the Buxton Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.

Wilma Whidden Godwin
Wilma Whidden Godwin, age 82, formerly of Glades County, died Saturday, June 14, 2003, at Hospice of Palm Beach County after an extended illness. Mrs. Godwin was born on Feb. 23, 1921. She attended the Lake Worth First Church of Nazarene.
Preceded in death by: her husband, Dick Godwin; and brother, Vance Whidden.
Survivors include: her daughter, Ginger (Ronald) Trogdon of West Palm Beach; her son, Richard Steve Godwin of New Martinsville, W. Va.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; four sisters; and one brother also survive her.
Graveside services will be conducted on Saturday, June 21, at 2 p.m., at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 6411 Parker Ave., West Palm Beach, with Reverend Jerry Wade, officiating.
Contributions may be made to Hospice of Palm Beach County, 5300 East Ave., West Palm Beach, Fl. 33407.
All arrangements have been under the direction of the Dorsey Funeral Home.

Robert Howard "Bob" Elliott
Robert Howard "Bob" Elliott, age 59, of Okeechobee, died Monday, June 16, 2003, at JFK Medical Center in Atlantis. Born Sept. 3, 1943, in Norway, Maine, Mr. Elliott had been a resident of Okeechobee since 1988. He served in the U.S. Army and retired after working 34 years with Pratt Whitney Corporation.
Survivors include: his beloved wife of 18 years, Gail Marie Elliott of Okeechobee; three sons, Robert Elliott of Alexandria, La., Randy "Ray" Elliott of Rochester, N.Y. and Tyler Elliott of Okeechobee; three daughters, Rebecca Elliott of Jupiter, Michelle Elliott and Christine Elliott of Okeechobee; seven grandchildren; and two brothers, Tom McKay of South Carolina and Mitchell Hutchinson of Jupiter.
A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, June 21, at 11 a.m., at the Buxton Funeral Home Chapel.
All arrangements have been under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral and Crematory.

Glen "Ghandi" Turner Chandler
Glen "Ghandi" Turner Chandler, age 81, of Okeechobee, died Monday, June 16, 2003, at Raulerson Hospital. Born Jan. 3, 1922, in Okeechobee, the son of John and Katie Raulerson Chandler, Mr. Chandler was a warden for the Audubon Society, discovering the first cattle egret in America. He aided in many search and rescue parties for lost boaters on Lake Okeechobee.
Mr. Chandler was a member of the First Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by: his wife, Blanche Chandler; two brothers, Larue Chandler and Rod Chandler; and sister, Beulah Reeves.
Survivors include: his sister, Lenora Walker of Okeechobee; and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services and interment will be at Basinger Cemetery on Thursday, June 19, at 10 a.m. Reverend Monroe Arnold and Reverend Mickey Evans will officiate.
All arrangements have been under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.

Dolores M. "Peggy" Smith
Dolores M. "Peggy" Smith, age 71, of Lakeport, died Monday, June 16, 2003, at her residence. Born Nov. 11, 1931, in Grand Marais, Mich., Mrs. Smith was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, Daniel L. and Velma Mae (Smyth) Call; son, Larry Houlton; and a brother, Lyle Call.
Survivors include: her husband, Thomas C. Smith of Lakeport; two sons, Ricky (Geneva) Houlton and Terry Houlton, both of Hamilton, Ind.; three stepdaughters, Tina Kolher of Moore Haven, Tammy Davis and Tori Kain, both of Marseilles, Ill.; three grandchildren; 19 step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Velma Mae Dielman of Sebring; and brother, Gerald Call of Butler, Ind.
There will be no visitation.
Funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, June 21, 2003, at 4 p.m. at the Maple Grove Baptist Church in Lakeport, with Pastor Coba J. Beasley, officiating.
Memorials may be made to the Maple Grove Baptist Church Building Fund, 120 E. S.R. 78, Moore Haven, Fl. 33471, in memory of Dolores Smith.
All arrangements are entrusted to the loving care of the Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

Hulon V. "Casey" Jones
Hulon V. "Casey" Jones, age 78, of Okeechobee, died Thursday, June 5, 2003, at his residence. Mr. Jones was born June 6, 1924, in Newark, N.J. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, was a member of the American Legion Post 64, a lifetime member of the VFW Post 84 and a member of the Masonic Temple of Boca Raton.
He served as past president of the Okeechobee Citizens Observation Patrol.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Jones.
Survivors include: his daughters, Joann Jones of Berkley, Calif. and Debbie (Ken) Stiles of Scottsdale, Ariz.; stepdaughter, Cindy Vansant of Scottsdale, Ariz.; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Howard Jones of Scotch Plains, N.J., and Jay Jones of Pennsylvania; and one sister, Iris Ferraro of Union, N.J.
A memorial service will be conducted on Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the Okeechobee Christian Church, 3055 S.E. 18th Terrace, with Pastor Mike Ratliff officiating.
Arrangements were under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.

Johnathon Edwin Nichols
Johnathon Edwin Nichols, age 23, of Okeechobee, died Sunday, June 15, 2003. Born March 6, 1980, in Jacksonville, Johnathon had been a resident of Okeechobee for over 10 years.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Bryin Adkins.
Survivors include: his wife of two and one-half years, Marlisha LaToya "Toy" Nichols of Okeechobee; parents, Mark Nichols of Okeechobee and Ruth Daubert of Fort Lauderdale; brothers, Chris (Tiffany) Nichols and Danny Adkins; nephew, Ti Nichols; nieces, Cheyne Ruth Adkins and Jasmine Watts; and grandparents, John and Cherry Torak, all of Okeechobee.
Friends may call at the Buxton Funeral Home on Thursday, June 19, from 2 p.m. until funeral service time at 4 p.m. Rev. Noah Taylor, pastor of North Okeechobee Church of God, will officiate.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.

Margaret M. 'Dollie' Reed
Margaret M. 'Dollie' Reed, age 85, of Okeechobee, died Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at Hope Hospice in Cape Coral. Born Dec. 30, 1917, in Indianapolis, Ind., Mrs. Reed had been a resident of Okeechobee for over 40 years. Her favorite pastime was fishing.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Morris Reed; and her son, Larry Foster , Sr.
Survivors include: her grandchildren, Cimber (James) Stilts of Cape Coral, Larry E. Foster , Jr. and Thomas Milstead of Lakeland, Sara (Michael) Goza of Dallas, Ga., and Ali (Bart) Burk of Houston, Texas; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Millie Bristow of Greenwood, Ind.
Visitation will be on Sunday, June 15, from 11 a.m. until funeral service time at 1 p.m., at the Buxton Funeral Home.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.

Harry Willis Anchors
Harry Willis Anchors, age 84, of Okeechobee, died Friday, June 13, 2003, at his residence. Born May 15, 1919, in Foxburg, Pa., Mr. Anchors had been a resident of Okeechobee since 1980. He was a member of the Okeechobee Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of the VFW, American Legion Post 64, Moose Lodge, Masonic Lodge, Shrine Club and High 12 Club No. 597.
Survivors include: his beloved wife of 25 years, Dolores May Anchors of Okeechobee; two sons, Howard Lee (Dixie) Anchors of Virginia Beach, Va., and Jeffery Lynn Anchors of Fayetteville, N.C.; two daughters, Victoria Martinez of Clinton, N.C., and Cindy Anchors of Pennsylvania; several grandchildren; and one sister, Helen (Gerald) Hatch of Kennerdell, Pa.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.

William "Scottie" A. Scott, III
William "Scottie" A. Scott, III, age 60, of Okeechobee, died Monday, June 9, 2003, at Lawnwood Regional Medical Center in Fort Pierce.
Born July 17, 1942, in Charleston, W.Va., Scottie had been a resident of Okeechobee for 10 years. He was the owner and operator of Scotties Cylinder Head and Engine Service. Scottie was a former professional drag racer for 20 years. He enjoyed fishing, stock car racing, drag racing and antique tractors. He was a member of Florida Flywheelers Antique Engine Club.
Survivors include: his devoted wife of 19 years, Kathy Scott of Okeechobee; mother, Marjorie Scott of Columbia, S.C.; brother, Jeffrey (Marianna) Scott of Columbia, S.C.; nephews, Austin Scott and Patrick Scott of Columbia, S.C.; father-in-law, George O. Ningard of Port Clinton, Ohio; sister-in-law, Laura Mahlich of Amherst, Ohio; and nephew, Ken Mahlich of Vandalia, Ohio also survives him.
Friends may call at the Buxton Funeral Home on Friday, June 13, from 10 a.m. until funeral service time at noon. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Florida Flywheelers Antique Engine Club, 7000 Avon Park Cutoff Road, Ft. Meade, FL 33481.
