Henry C. Kelly
Henry C. Kelly, age 85, of Okeechobee, died Sunday, April 20, 2003, at his beach house in Vero Beach. He was born October 13, 1917, in Walton, W.Va. to Frank and Elfie Stewart Kelly. Mr. Kelly served in the United States Air Force during World War II as a B-24 bomber pilot in the European front. After the war he spent his career with Logan & Kanawha Coal Co. in Detroit, Mich. and Cincinnati, Ohio. In 1977 he retired to Okeechobee where he had a cattle ranch. During his retirement years he was active with the Boy Scouts of America, the Okeechobee Chamber of Commerce, Big Lake National Bank, the American Cancer Society, the March of Dimes and other concerns. He was also concerned with the youth of the community and awarded scholarships to area high school seniors, as well as contributing to the general scholarship program of Indian River Community College and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Okeechobee.
Mr. Kelly was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward Kelly and Walter Kelly; and two sisters, Sada Humphreys and Anne Brown.
Survivors include: his wife, Betty Kelly of Okeechobee; one daughter, Linda Kelly Flunker and one granddaughter, Kelly Marie Flunker, both of Gainesville; in addition he is survived by two sisters, Orla Kelly and Ruth Lanham, both of Charleston, W.Va.; seven step grandchildren and 11 step great- grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 22, from 4 until 7 p.m. at the Bass Funeral Home in Okeechobee. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 23, at the Oakview Baptist Church in Okeechobee with Pastor Fred Gardner of the First United Methodist Church of Okeechobee officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery in Okeechobee.
Arrangements are entrusted to the loving care of the Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home.
Clyde Gordon
Clyde Gordon, age 89, died Saturday, April 19, 2003.
Mr. Gordon was born in Pitts, Ga. He moved to Melbourne from Buckhead Ridge in Okeechobee, having formerly lived 40 years in Miami.
He enjoyed the Moose Lodge in Okeechobee and Melbourne, dancing, gardening and fishing.
Survivors include: his son, Jack C. (Joy) Gordon; grandchildren, Jack (Lynn) Gordon, Cheryl (Tom) Culpepper, and John (Sue) Gordon; great- grandchildren, Rachel, Ariana, Ryan, Brandon, James, Jenna, Blake and Mitchell; and great great-grandson, Aidan. Clyde came from a family of 11 brothers and sisters, and eight half brothers and half sisters; of those three survive, Alice, James and Geraldine.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, at the South Brevard Funeral Home.
Donations in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.

George Edward Weed
George Edward Weed, age 89, of Okeechobee, died Friday, April 18, 2003, at his residence.
Mr. Weed was born June 29, 1913, in Pittsfield, Mass. He had been a resident of Okeechobee for 20 years. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, Elks Lodge and American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his son, George R. "Skip" Weed.
Survivors include: one son, Robert T. Weed of Humble, Texas; two daughters, Ellen M. Weed Dean of Okeechobee and Charlotte Weed Gerwaski of Lenox, Mass.; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
There will be no visitation or services.

Dorothy R. Pearce
Dorothy R. Pearce, age 77, died Wednesday, April 18, 2001, at her residence. She was born on November 18, 1923, in Rocky Mount, N.C., and was affiliated with the First Baptist Church of Okeechobee.
Preceded in death by: her husband, Hunky Pearce, daughter, Jane Bartlett and son, Harry Pearce.
Survivors include: daughter, Peggy Stratton and husband Charlie of Okeechobee; sons, Roy Pearce, and Dock Pearce and wife Sue, all of Okeechobee; daughter-in-law, Cindy Pearce of Okeechobee; sister, Proc Garner of Duncanville, Texas; 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service is Saturday, April 21, 2001, at 11 a.m., graveside at Evergreen Cemetery, with Reverend Damon Walker officiating.
Visitation is Friday, April 20, at 4 until 6 p.m. at the Bass Funeral Home.

Ruth Gleen Quarles
Ruth Gleen Quarles, age 80,of Okeechobee, died Wednesday, April 18, 2001, at the Okeechobee Health Care Facility. Born August 28, 1920, in Bartow County, Ga. Mrs. Quarles had been a resident of Okeechobee for 50 years.
Preceded in death by: her husband, Clifford Quarles and son, Edward D. Quarles.
Survivors include: two sons, Walter Quarles of Florida and Marvin Quarles of Okeechobee; two daughters, Glenda Waters of Okeechobee and Nancy Story of Fort Pierce; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Carl Henry Ely and Junior Ely, both of Rome, Ga., and Ronald Ely of Aragon, Ga.; four sisters, Agnes Pope, Mildred Messick, Clara Deems and Retha Pritchett, all of Aragon, Ga.
Visitation will be held at the Buxton Funeral Home on Monday, April 23, 2001, from 10 to 11 a.m. with a funeral service to be conducted at 11 a.m., officiated by Brother David Burney of Haven Ministries.
Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.

Joe Scott Sage, Jr.
Joe Scott Sage, Jr., age 74, of Okeechobee, died Thursday, April 19, 2001, at the VA Medical Center in West Palm Beach. Born July 31, 1927, in Goulds, Florida. Mr. Sage had been a resident of Okeechobee for 35 years. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, VFW and DAV and was of the Baptist Faith.
Survivors include: his loving wife of five years, Shelby Sage of Okeechobee; one brother, Randy Sage of High Point, N.C.; three stepchildren, Jean L. Conley and Jason D. Vaughan, Jr. of Loxahatchee and Cynthia L. Pinckey of Perry, Mich; four step granchildren, Michael L. Pinckney, Joshua A. Vaughan, Adam C. Vaughan, and Mirara E. Vaughan; and one step great-granddaughter, Bryani Lynn Pinckney.
There will be no visitation or services.

Bobby M. Williams
Bobby M. Williams, age 73, of Okeechobee, died Tuesday, April 15, 2003, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Miami.
He was born August 18, 1929, in Payne, Ark. Mr. Williams had been a resident of Okeechobee since 1965. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was the recipient of the Bronze Star, Korean Service Medal, UN Service Medal and National Defense Medal. He was a lifetime member of DAV.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, H.O. and Iva Williams; two brothers, James Williams and Wayne Williams; one sister, Edith Williams; and one son, Gene Gillis.
Survivors include: his beloved wife of 51 years, Evelyn Williams of Okeechobee; three grandchildren, Bobby Gillis of Orange Grove, Ala., Debbie Gillis of Okeechobee and Thanakay Holloway of Memphis, Tenn.; one great-grandson, Bobby Gene Gillis of Orange Grove, Ala.; one great-granddaughter, Stacey Herron of Jasper, Ala.; one brother, Keith Williams of Russell, Ark.; four sisters, Trella Martinez of Jacksonville, Wilma Caldwell of El Dorado, Ark., Mary Faulk of Springhill, Mo. and Darlene Shoptaw of Atkins, Ark.; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
There will be no visitation or services.

Elaine Mae "Sam" Foust
Elaine Mae "Sam" Foust, age 70, of Okeechobee, died Monday, April 14, 2003, at her residence.
She was born on Nov. 21, 1932, in Cable, Ohio, daughter of Marion and Lois Corbet. Mrs. Foust married her husband, Jack, on March 5, 1966, in Urbana, Ohio, and moved to Okeechobee in 1979.
She worked many years as a pharmacy tech at Raulerson Hospital. Her special interests included gardening, decorating and traveling with her husband.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; brothers, Carlton and Larmar Corbet; and son-in-law, Lauren Paquet.
Survivors include: her husband, Jack; daughter, Denise (Clare) McNally; step daughters, Susan (Mike) Reed and Diane (Gene) Paquet, all of Michigan; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
At her request there will be no visitation; however, friends are invited to her home on Saturday, April 19, from 1 until 3 p.m. to share memories.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Okeechobee or the Visiting Nurse Association.

Francesca Gomez
Francesca Gomez, infant baby daughter of Alberto and Eva Saucedo Gomez, died April 14, 2001, at St. Mary's Medical Center in West Palm Beach. Francesca was born March 15, 2001, at St. Mary's Medical Center.
Survivors include: her parents, one brother, Daniel and one sister, Selene.
Private family graveside services and interment will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2001, at 11 a.m. at Evergreen Cemetery, with Father Hugh Duffy of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, officiating.

Robert Bruce Tarsek
Robert Bruce Tarsek, age 43, of Okeechobee, died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at Raulerson Hospital. Born March 22, 1958, in Toledo, Ohio, Mr. Tarsek had been a resident of Okeechobee for four years.
Survivors include: his wife Mary Tarsek of Okeechobee; two sons, Robert John Tarsek II of Okeechobee and Ryan Scott Tarsek of Arcadia; and one daughter, Joyce B. Tarsek of Okeechobee.
There will be no visitation or services.

Kenneth D. Plank
Kenneth D. Plank, age 82, of Okeechobee, died Monday, April 14, 2003, at Raulerson Hospital.
Mr. Plank was born on March 14, 1921, in Cranden, Wis., Mr. Plank had been a resident of Okeechobee for 18 years. He served as a pilot in the U.S. Air Force during WWII and spent two years as a POW in a German camp. Mr. Plank was a Hospice Volunteer and a member of the American Legion, DAV and Elks Lodge. He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Preceded in death by: his wife, Bernice; and two sons, Sanford and Gary.
Survivors include: one son, Jerry Plank of Strausburg, Ohio; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Kate Dennison of Elkhart, Ind.
A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, April 19, 2003, at 2 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church of Okeechobee, 200 N.W. Second St.

William Arthur Beatty
William Arthur Beatty, age 60, died Tuesday, April 15, 2003, in Missouri.
Mr. Beatty was born on July 30, 1942, in Salyersville, Ky. Mr. Beatty had formerly been a resident of Okeechobee for 40 years.
He was preceded in death by his father, William A. Beatty.
Survivors include: daughter, Anna Jane Beatty of Okeechobee; mother, Jane Beatty of Okeechobee; two brothers, Jerry L. (Joyce) Beatty of Lexington, Ky. and Lowell (Jeanette) Beatty of Blakely, Ga.; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Buxton Funeral Home on Saturday, April 19, from 2 p.m. until funeral service time at 3 p.m. Entombment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
