Frances P Riordan
Frances P. Riordan died from the loving arms of her family and friends to eternal peace on April 7. Her strength and spirit has earned her the respect and admiration of all who knew her.
Born in Massachusetts on Nov. 28, 1921, she moved to Florida in 1970 and to Okeechobee in 1983 where she resided with her husband Bill. She was a devout mother and member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
She leaves behind he best friend and husband William S. Riordan Sr., her beloved children Stephen Riordan of West Palm Beach, Linda Brooks of Rogersville, Tenn., Lori Hunter of Bulls Gap, Tenn., Deborah Montomery of Pompano Beach, and Mary Burris of Okeechobee. She is also survived by her three loving siblings Rita Chorlton of Snellville, Ga., James Owen of Cape Cod, Mass., Alson Owen of Palm Beach Gardens, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A viewing and funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 11, at 10:30 a.m. at Scobee-Combs-Bowden Funeral Home, 1622 N.E. Fourth St., Boynton Beach.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Okeechobee.

Virgil E. Cook
Virgil E. "Pat" Cook, age 95, of Okeechobee, died Thursday, April 5, 2001, at the Okeechobee Health Care Facility. Born June 11, 1905 in Mason, Ill., Mr. Cook had been a resident of Okeechobee since 1969. He was a life member of the Elks Lodge of Okeechobee.
Preceded in death by his wife, Lysle.
Survivors include: his daughter, Barbara Logan of Jackson, Mich.; granddaughters, Katherine Logan and Sandra West of Jackson, Mich.; grandson, Mark Logan of N.M.; and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at the Buxton Funeral Hone of Friday, April 13, 2001, at 6 p.m., with Donna Gaiser, Exalted Ruler of the Okeechobee Elks Lodge, Officiating.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.

Barbara Janice Smith
Barbara Janice Smith, age 63, of Okeechobee, died Monday, April 9, 2001, at Raulerson Hospital. Born August 8, 1937, in Walnut Ridge, Ark., Mrs. Smith has been a resident of Okeechobee for 43 years.
Survivors include: her husband of 36 years, Delbert Smith of Okeechobee; one son, Robert Smith (Melissa) of Okeechobee; granddaughter, Kayla Smith; parents, Carl and Myrtle Dixon of Avon Park; two brothers, Larry Dixon of Wauchula and Poyce Dixon of Punta Gorda; one sister, Carleen Ray of Okeechobee; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at the Buxton Funeral Home on Thursday, April 12, 2001, at 2 p.m. with Reverend Dr. John Keith, Pastor of Oakview Baptist Church, officiating.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.

Hazel M. Oliver
Hazel M. Oliver, age 95, formerly of Okeechobee, died Monday, April 9, 2001, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital in South Carolina.
She was born June 20, 1905, in New York, N.Y., a daughter of the late Francis Arthur Smith and Blanche Ross Smith.
Survivors include: her husband, Richard Oliver of Melbourne; two sons, Richard (Jean) Manz of Okeechobee and Arthur (Patricia) of Georgetown, S.C.; five grandchildren; and, three great-grandchildren.
She was first married to the late Paul Manz.
No services are planned.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Graham Funeral Home in Georgetown, S.C.

Blanche Rucks
Blanche Rucks, age 66, of Okeechobee, died April 9, 2001, at Raulerson Hospital. Born Oct. 2, 1934, in Walland, Tenn., Mrs. Rucks had been a resident of Okeechobee for 40 years. She was a housewife, a very devoted Christian working very hard at the church and taught Sunday school at the Northside Baptist Church and was a past worthy matron of the Okeechobee Eastern Star. Mrs. Rucks was a devoted mother and companion and will be missed greatly.
Survivors include: her husband, Wilson Rucks of Okeechobee; daughters, Rebecca Niagra and husband John of Coral Spring and Maria Rogers of Fort Lauderdale; son David Rogers and wife Victoria of Okeechobee; step son LeRoy Rucks of Okeechobee; five step daughters, Linda Knisely and husband Robert; Velda Waller, Debbie Cillo and husband Tony, Dianna Dees and husband Tommy all of Okeechobee, and Glenda Peterson and husband Joey of Jacksonville; 11 brothers and sisters, Eugene Huskey of Maryville, Tenn., Velma Hood of Walland, Tenn., Nellie Locke of Walland, Tenn., Beulah Huskey of Maryville, Tenn., Vita Patty of Maryville, Tenn., Ruth Tipton of Maryville, Tenn., Ina Tipton of Walland, Tenn., Merle Williamson of Woodsfield, Ohio, J.L. Huskey of Kokomo, Ind., Shirley Couch of Dayton, Ohio and Lois Hatfield of Dayton, Ohio; 16 grandchildren; and, eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 11, from 4 until 7 p.m. at the Bass Funeral Home.
Funeral service will Thursday, April 12, at 10 a.m. at the Northside Baptist Church with Rev. Dale Pearson and Rev. Tommy McGee officiating.
Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

Ernest C. DeLauder
Ernest C. DeLauder, age 73, of Okeechobee, died Friday, April 4, 2003, at his residence.
Mr. DeLauder was born on Feb. 3, 1930, in Philippi, W. Va., and moved to Alexandria, Va. following service in the U.S. Air Force. Mr. DeLauder moved to Okeechobee in the late 1980s. He was a retired Engineering Technician who worked for the U.S. Army for over 20 years and was also owner of E.C. DeLauder, Inc., a refrigeration, air conditioning and nuclear power consulting firm from the 1970s to the mid 1990s. Mr. DeLauder was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Buckhead Ridge.
Preceded in death by: three brothers, Earl E., Durl S. and Dick DeLauder.
Survivors include: his wife of 51 years, V. Grace DeLauder of Okeechobee; two daughters, Jan (Brian) Terry of Carlsbad, Calif., and Diane (Lanny) Taylor of Alexandria, Va.; two grandchildren, Chris and Melissa Terry of Carlsbad, Calif.; and two brothers, Scott DeLauder of Clinton, Ohio and Roger DeLauder of Philippi, W.Va., also survive him.
The family will receive friends Thursday, April 10, from 4 until 7 p.m., at the Bass Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be on Friday, April 11, at 7:30 p.m., at the Church of the Nazarene, with Pastor Jim Hudson and Pastor Ralph Crowell, officiating. Inurnment at a later date in the Columbarium Arlington National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Church of the Nazarene, Landscape Project, 425 S.W. 28 St., Okeechobee, Fl. 34974, in memory of Ernest C. DeLauder.
All arrangements are entrusted to the loving care of the Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

Edward Glen Tatro
Edward Glen Tatro, age 72, of Okeechobee, died Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at Raulerson Hospital.
Mr. Tatro was born on Oct. 30, 1930, in Cleveland, Ohio. Mr. Tatro had been a resident of Okeechobee for 11 years. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict and was a machine operator with General Motors. Mr. Tatro was a member of the Masonic Lodge and of the Trinity Freewill Baptist Church.
Survivors include: his beloved wife of 37 years, Melissa Tatro of Okeechobee; daughters, Joyce of Upper Arlington, Ohio and Karen (Ray) of Valencia, Calif.; son, David of Rapid City, S.D.; eight grandchildren, Brooke, Devan, David, Christopher, Melissa, Kasey, Nicholas and Dustin; one sister, Joyce (Harry) Griffith of Brooksville.
Friends may call on Wednesday, April 9, from 4 until 7 p.m. and on Thursday, April 10, from 4 until 7 p.m., at the Buxton Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, April 11, at noon, at the Trinity Freewill Baptist Church, N.E. 39 Blvd., with Reverend William Naves, Jr., of Toledo, Ohio and Pastor Thomas Dees, officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.

Marian Louise Fleischauer
Marian Louise Fleischauer, age 72, of Okeechobee, died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at her residence.
Mrs. Fleischauer was born July 9, 1930, in Grand Meadow Village, Minn. She had been a resident of Okeechobee for 15 years. She was a former employee at KOA Camping Resort.
She was preceded in death by her parents: William and Edna Kuhn; husband, Kenneth Fleischauer; and daughter, Laurie Jones.
Survivors include: grandson, Brian W. Jones; step-children, Bruce Fleischauer, Lance and Susan Fleischauer, Rod and Candy Fleischauer, Scott and Libby Fleischauer and Vickey and Larry Eberhard; four step-grandchildren; and several cousins.
A memorial service will be conducted on Monday, April 14, at 10 a.m. at the Buxton Funeral Home.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.

Glenn A. Gaston
Glenn A. Gaston, age 85, of Athens, Ohio, died Saturday, April 5, 2003 at Doctor's Hospital in Nelsonville, Ohio.
He was born July 20, 1917, in Athens County, Ohio, the son of the late J. Lee and Dessie Snider Gaston. Mr. Gaston was a retired sales manager of Nationwide Insurance Company, with 40 years of service. He was a Farm Bureau member since 1936. He was a charter member of the Athens Lions Club and the recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellow Award. Mr. Gaston was a member of the Athens First United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of the Savannah Masonic Lodge 466 of Guysville, the York Rite Bodies of Athens and the Aladdin Temple of Columbus. He also was a member of the Athens County and Okeechobee Shrine Clubs and the Green and White Club.
Survivors include: his wife of 60 years, Clarice McDaniel Gaston; daughter, Nancy (Bill) Thomas of Atlanta, Ga.; son, Dr. Max L. (Carol Ann) Gaston of Augusta, Ga.; and one granddaughter, Stacey Lynn Brown of Denver, Colo.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 8, from 2 until 4 p.m. and from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home in Athens, Ohio. Masonic services will be conducted at 6 p.m. by the Savannah Masonic Lodge 466 of Guysville, Ohio.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 9, at 11 a.m., at the Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home, Athens, Ohio, with Reverend Mary Jo Yeakel officiating.
Interment will be in Carthage Cemetery.
All arrangements are entrusted to the Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home, 168 Morris Ave., Athens, Ohio.

Jamie L. Meredith
Jamie L. Meredith, age 13, of Live Oak, died Saturday, April 5, 2003.
Jamie was born Aug. 14, 1989, in Arcadia and moved to Live Oak in 2001 from Sebring. She was a seventh grader at Suwannee Middle School in Live Oak. Jamie was an active member of the Future Farmers of America and attended the Dowling Park Church of God in Dowling Park.
Survivors include: her parents, Peggy Meredith of Live Oak and James W. Meredith of Lake Placid; three brothers, William Joe Meredith of Live Oak and Levi and Garrett Meredith both of Lake Placid; maternal grandfather, Marvin Boney of Live Oak; paternal grandfather, Nelson Durrance of Sebring; and aunt and uncle, Bobby and Nancy Boney of Okeechobee.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 9, from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Daniels Funeral Home in Live Oak.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, April 10, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of the Fountain-Chandler Funeral Home in Lake Placid, with Reverend J.H. Brown and Reverend Frank Jones officiating.
Interment will follow in Bassinger Cemetery in Bassinger.
Daniels Funeral Home of Live Oak is in charge of arrangements in Live Oak. Local arrangements are entrusted to Fountain-Chandler Funeral Home in Lake Placid.

Landon Fortner
Landon Fortner, age 85, died Friday, April 6, 2001, at Raulerson Hospital. Born on April 9, 1915, Mr. Fortner was a Plumber by trade, and a member of the Grace Brethren Church.
Survivors include:his loving wife of 60 years, Annie Mae Fortner of Okeechobee; daughter, Beverly and husband Buddy; two sons, L.C. and wife Brenda, and Richard and wife Janice, all of Okeechobee; brother, Al Fortner of Okeechobee; two sisters, Hazel Evans of Sebring and Delores Hare of Lake Wales; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation is on Sunday, April 8, from 4 until 6 p.m., at the Bass Funeral Home.
Services are Monday, April 9, 2001 at 4 p.m. at Grace Brethren Church with Reverend Larry Zimmerman and Dr. John W. Keith officiating.
Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

Edward John Slimon
Edward John Slimon, Jr., 35, died April 4, 2001, at his residence in Okeechobee.
Mr. Slimon was born July, 6, 1965 in Youngstown, Ohio.
He was a mechanic.
He was preceded in death by his brother James "Jimmy" Walton, 12-31-99.
Mr. Slimon is survived by his: mother - Betty Walton, Okeechobee; sister - Candy Messersmith, Orlando; and, two brothers - Mark Slimon, Tampa, and Dale Proudfoot, Okeechobee.
Services will be held Saturday, April 7, at 3 p.m. in the Bass Funeral Home Chapel, 205 N.E. Second St. Rev. Scott Leslie of the Okeechobee Presbyterian Church will be officiating.
Visitation will be Saturday, April 7, from 2 until 3 p.m. at the Bass Funeral Home.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home and Crematory Services.
