Gregory V. Blommel, 31, of Ridge Manor, lost his long struggle with cancer on December 5, 2001. Survivors include his children; Jacob and Krista Blommel; his wife, Jessica Blommel; his parents Donna and Louis Blommel, all of Ridge Manor; two brothers, Anthony of Ridge Manor and Timothy of West Palm Beach; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.. He was a communication specialist and a life long area resident and member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in St. Joseph.
A Funeral Mass was held on Saturday, December 8, 2001 at 12 Noon at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The family received friends at the church on Friday from 2-6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society.
Thomas Burnett
Thomas Burnett, 55, of New Port Richey, died December 5, 2001 at Community Hospital in New Port Richey. Survivors include his wife, Frances; a son, Derrick of New York; a step son, Ben Brindle of Lakeland; two step daughters, Heather Bliven and Eva Giron, both of Dade City; his mother, Frances Burnett of New Port Richey; two brothers, Ray of Las Vegas and Robert of New Port Richey; a sister, Helen Delandro of Brooklyn, NY; and three grandchildren.
A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. at St. Rita Catholic Church in Dade City on Monday, December 10, 2001.
Graydon Leak
Leak, Graydon, 77, of Zephyrhills, died Dec. 5, 2001 at Hernando-Pasco Hospice Care Center. A native of Wheatland, NY he was a retired crane operator and was a member of the Disabled Veterans Association.
Survivors include his wife, Ada; a daughter, Gloria Scholl and her husband, Earl, of Zephyrhills; one grandchild, Albert Knapp of New York; and a brother-in-law, Erwin Farley of Zephyrhills.
Elizabeth Carr
CARR, Elizabeth (Betty), 66, of Zephyrhills, died Monday, December 3rd, 2001 at home. A native of Massachusetts, she moved to this area in 1984. A Veteran of the US Air Force, she was an LPN at Zephyr Haven Nursing Home, a member of the American Legion, Eagles and Moose Lodge.
Survivors include four daughters, Adel Buckley of Las Vegas, Jeanie Manter of Byfield, Mass., Patricia Carr of Hathorne, Mass and Beth Lane of Chelsea, Maine; two sons, Edwin Carr, Jr. of Groton, Conn. and Dean Wade of Sidney, Maine; three sisters, Barbara Elia of Antrim, NH, Alice Davis of Zephyrhills and Irene Davis of Zephyrhills; and her grandchildren, Timothy, Christopher and Catherine Wade, Matthew and Stacey Manter, John and Jason Buckley and Jeffrey Lamson, Jessica Carr, Thomas and Jennifer Lane, Stephanie, Samantha and Sarah Carr; as well as several nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. She was predeceased by her husband, Edwin Carr and her siblings, Lester Scadding, Richard Scadding, Robert Scadding and Edythe Buchanan.
A Memorial Service was held in the Chapel of Hodges Family Funeral Home at 8:00 p.m.. on Thursday, December 6th, 2001. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Hernando-Pasco Hospice, 7066 Fort King Road, Zephyrhills FL 33541.
Ina Lee O'Donovan Cardenas
Cardenas, Ina Lee O'Donovan, 40, of Tampa, died on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001. She is survived by her children, Jonathan, Chander, Dona, and Dorian; Her parents, Jeremiah and Josephine O'Donovan; her fiancé, David Seale; her siblings and their families, Ione Jackson, Jean Hansen, John O'Donovan and Beth Clarke.

Felipe de Jesus Mendoza-Castillo
Castillo, Felipe, 31, of Dade City, died November 25, 2001. Survivors include a brother, Francisco. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial was in Tampico, Mexico.
John R. "Dick" Walls
Walls, John R. "Dick", 67, of Land O' Lakes, died November 27 2001 at home. Survivors include his wife, Donna; three sons, Edward of Atlanta, GA, Tim of Tucson, AR and Andy of Orlando; three step-sons, Don Baker of Atlanta, GA, Chris Baker of Land O' Lakes and Scott Baker of St Petersburg; a step daughter, Susan Slade of Seattle, WA; eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was retired from Reynolds Metals and was a member of the Elks Club, Land O' Lakes. A Memorial Service was held on Friday at 2 p.m. at 20045 County Line Road, Lutz, FL.. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the ALS Foundation.
Melvin Johnson
Johnson, C. Melvin, of Wesley Chapel, passed away November 23rd, 2001. He was born in Davie, Florida 85 years ago to Karl and Hilma Johnson who came to the area in 1910. Melvin lived in Pompano Beach until recently when he moved to Wesley Chapel to be closer to family.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Oveda Hardin Johnson; daughter Susie and her husband, Bill Donnan; granddaughters Dana and Dawn; and great-grandchildren Lauren, Logan and Hunter. Melvin was a member of Carpenters Union #127 in Ft. Lauderdale and was a former member of the Elks and American Legion in Ft. Lauderdale.
Funeral Services were Graveside at Pompano Cemetery at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, November 27th, 2001.
Thomas H. Klaber
Klaber, Thomas, 49, passed away on Nov. 21, 2001. A short time resident of Zephyrhills, FL, he spent most of his life in Middletown, Ohio. Thomas was employed at General Electric, Cinn., Ohio. His trade was an electrician but his love was music. He played the guitar with various bands thru the years.
Thomas is survived by two sons, Derek & Jamie Klaber, both of Dade City, FL; a brother, Danny Klaber, Middletown, Ohio,; two sisters, Janie Goodrich of West Chester, Ohio, and Sandy Madden and brother in law Fred Madden of Zephyrhills; a niece Tina Miller and nephew Freddy Madden and other nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service was held in the Chapel of Hodges Family Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 24, 2001 with Rev. Robert T. Sims officiating.
Douglas McArthur Black
Douglas McArthur Black, 60, died unexpectedly November 17, 2001 at his home in Columbia Falls, Maine where he and his wife, Martha have resided since 1993. He was born June 19, 1941 in Trilby, Florida the son of George Edward Welton and Mamie Lavonia (Chastain) Black. Mr. Black married Martha Victoria Wells in Jacksonville, FL on November 16, 1963. He attended Florida College in Temple Terrace, FL and for 38 years has preached for churches in Florida, Georgia and Maine. During those years, he also operated a honey farm and a farm machinery business. He has preached for the Milbridge Church of Christ since 1992. Mr. Black, a member of the Maine Farm Bureau and Florida Farm Bureau, has served on committees and boards on all levels of Farm Bureau. He served as president of Washington-Hancock Farm Bureau and was recently elected to Maine Farm Bureau Board of Directors. He was on the American Farm Bureau Federation’s Apiary Board of Directors. He served as a Columbia Falls selectman and has assisted in various village events.
He was the Past President, Orange Blossom Beekeepers Association, Past President, Trilby Cemetery Association, and a Former Elder, Trilacoochee Church of Christ.
In addition to his wife, Martha, he is survived by two children, Scott Black and his wife, Laura of Dade City, FL and Lesley and her husband, John Anderson of Minot, ND and their children, Anastasia Marie (Ana) and Kollin Douglas Nathaniel Anderson. Doug is also survived by three brothers, George Edward and his wife Louise of Lakeland, Walter Eugene of Trilby, Daniel and his wife, Eloise of Bradenton and a sister Florence Wooten and her husband, Albert of Trilby. He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Gerald and two sisters, Naomi Davis and Marie Hatch.
Friends were invited to visit with the family 5 to 7 PM, Saturday, at the funeral home. Funeral services were held at 2:30 PM, Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001 at the Trilacoochee Church of Christ with Bob Owen officiating.. Interment was in the Trilby Cemetery, Trilby, FL.
Arthur Ott
Arthur Ott, 81, of Zephyrhills, died Monday, November 19th, 2001 at home. Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Ring of Muskegon, MI; a step son, Max Brazil of Tampa; three grandchildren; and his partner, Shirley Ripley.
A native of Michigan, he moved to this area in 1984 from Michigan. He was a Veteran of the US Navy during WWII and was a member of the VFW and several other military organizations.
