Vermeer, Gregory Kent, 54, of Dade City passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2008 under the care of Hernando-Pasco Hospice. Greg was born October 21, 1953 in Ames, IA, to Wallace & Joanne Vonk Vermeer, and moved to this area 4 years ago from St. Petersburg, where he lived for the past 20 years. Greg was employed as the Fish Health Biologist with the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission. He served as the Commission’s liaison to statewide fisheries health issues and served on the Commission’s Freshwater Fish Health Policy Committee. Greg is survived by his wife of 28 years: Kimberly Vermeer; his daughter & son-in-law: Leah & Ted Yeatts, Ft. Myers; his son: Thomas Vermeer, Gainesville; his parents: Joanne & Wallace Vermeer, Orange City, IA; one sister: Julie Elliott, Malvern, PA; and three brothers: Brent Vermeer, Phoenix, AZ, Barry Vermeer, Australia, and Dan Vermeer, Atlanta, GA. A celebration of Greg’s life will be held on Sunday, January 13th at 3:00pm at the Community United Methodist Church of San Antonio, 32606 Michigan Ave., San Antonio, FL 33576. There will be a time of greeting and fellowship from 2:00-3:00pm in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the building fund of Community United Methodist Church of San Antonio or The Nature Conservancy.
Carlos C. Gaskin
Gaskin, Carlos C., 86, of San Antonio, died Thursday, January 3, 2008 at Hernando-Pasco Hospice. A native and life long resident of San Antonio, he was a retired supervisor for the Florida Department of Transportation. He was a member of the San Antonio Community Church. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Dorothy; five children, Carlos, Jr. of Pocatello, Idaho, JoAnna Brooks of Dade City, Mary Rose of Jackson, MI, Gail Black of San Antonio and Tina Lee of Richardson, TX.; 8 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home on Monday, January 7, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 8, 2008 with Rev. Brad Stevens officiating. Burial will follow at Williams Cemetery.
Mary Catherine "Cathy" Minnix
Minnix, Mary Catherine “Cathy”, 46, of Ridge Manor, passed away Thursday, January 3, 2008 in Dade City under the care of Hernando-Pasco Hospice. She was born July 6, 1961 in Dade City to Joe Cecil and Mellie Jane Hardy Minnix. She was a customer service representative at Wal-Mart. She is survived by her mother: Mellie Minnix, Ridge Manor; her brother: Bobby J. Minnix, Dade City; 3 sisters: Lisa Ann & Kelvin R. Adams, Lois Marie & Raymond Gregory Spann, Gloria J. & Andrew Steve Blankenship, all of Ridge Manor; her aunt:Easter Cassidy, Dade City; and many close family members including her cousins: Wendall and James Cassidy. Funeral services will be held 3pm Sunday, January 6, 2008 at the 301 Chapel of Hodges Family Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Gardens. Friends may call from 4-6pm Saturday evening at the funeral home. Flowers will be gratefully accepted, or those that wish may make donations in her memory to Hernando-Pasco Hospice.
Ernest "Ernie" T. Jones
Jones, Ernest Thomas, "Ernie", 59, of San Antonio, died Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at Pasco Regional Medical Center. A native of Richmond, Virginia, he moved to Florida in 1983 and to this area in in 1996. He was a retired Risk Manager for Kash N Karry (Sweetbay). Ernie was a Veteran of the US Air Force serving in Thailand during Vietnam. He was an avid golfer, loved recreational boating, had his private pilot's license and loved to travel. Survivors include his wife, Susan; his father, Ernest Jones, Sr. of Richmond; two sisters, Lillie Thomas of Richmond and Shirley Cunningham of Arkansas; and two brothers, James Jones of Virginia and John Jones of Richmond. Memorial services will be announced at a later date.
Robert F. Utter
Robert F. Utter, 86, of Zephyrhills, Fla., died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2007. He was born Dec. 15, 1922, in New York City. Rev. Utter and his family moved to Zephyrhills after his retirement from pastoral ministry in 1989. He earned his A.B. and Th.B. from Eastern Nazarene College in Massachusetts, where he met his wife. Robert and the former Wilma Race were married in 1948. He served as pastor for Churches of the Nazarene in Pennsylvania, New York and Massachusetts. He also earned a master’s degree in music education from Long Island University and did graduate work at Hofstra University. In addition to pastoring churches, Rev. Utter taught music in secondary schools. He was a member of the Wesley Chapel Church of the Nazarene. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Wilma Utter, and his daughter, Connie Utter, both of Zephyrhills; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Carol Utter and Grace Daniels. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2008, at the Wesley Chapel Church of the Nazarene, 34106 State Route 54, Wesley Chapel, FL. 33543, followed by a service at 3 p.m. An interment service will follow at Chapel Hill Gardens, Dade City, Florida. Memorial contributions may be made to Wesley Chapel Church of the Nazarene.

Kovar, June I., 79, of San Antonio, died Monday, December 31, 2007 at home. A Canadian native, she moved to this area in 1980 from Connecticut. She was a homemaker and a Life Member of the VFW. She was Catholic by faith. Survivors include her husband, Horace; a sister, Lillian Killian of Danbury, Conn.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be private.
Jimmy Ray Willhoit, Sr.
Willhoit, Sr, Jimmy Ray, 68, Zephyrhills passed away December 25, 2007. He was born October 13, 1939 Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard. He is survived by his loving family, including his wife Betty, his sons, Jimmy Willhoit, Jr. and Dean Clark, daughters, Loretta (Jack) Sayers and Kim Without, granddaughter, Mandy Willhoit, Zephyrhills, grandson, Stevie Moffet and granddaughters, Brittany Cale and Alicia Randall all of Baltimore, Maryland and grandchildren in Washington state and several nieces and nephews. Services were private, held at residence. He will be greatly missed and always in our hearts.
Jay David Hill
HILL, Jay David, 70, of Dade City, Fla., died December 25, 2007, of a stroke, at Hernando Pasco Hospice. He was bom in the Salt Lake City area, and lived in Minneapolis, Minn., for 34 years, and had lived in Florida since 1985. Jay retired from American K-9 Container in 2004, and sold the business. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathy Omberg in 2005. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Winship; stepson, Lawrence Winship of Palm Harbor, Fla.; son-in-law, Curt Omberg, of Bena, Minn.; brother James Carson Hill of Apache Junction, Ariz.; sister, Mary Erin Martin of Austin, Minn.; sons, Chris and David
of Minneapolis, Minn.; daughter, Theresa Wilson of Barnsville, Ohio; grandson, Justin Knowles, and granddaughter, Jackie Knowles, of Minneapolis, Minn.; two additional grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three nieces. A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 10, 2008, at Dade City Free Methodist Church, 21st, at W. Howard Avenue, Dade City, FL.

Karppe, Michael A., 35, of Zephyrhills, FL, passed away Friday, December 28, 2007 at his home. He was born January 11, 1972 in Plant City, FL, to Richard L. & Julia A. Worrell Karppe. He attended school in Zephyrhills and worked in the Aluminum Installation Industry. He is survived by his wife: Lisa Karppe, Zephyrhills; 2 daughters: Natasha Gonzales and Shelby Karppe; his parents: Roy & Judy Karppe, Zephyrhills; his brother: Richie & Carrie Karppe, Richland; his grandfather: Ed Grant, Crystal Springs; and his nieces: Jessie & Brandy Karppe. Funeral services will be held 2pm Friday, January 4, 2008 at the Richland Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Richland Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-6pm at the 301 Chapel of Hodges Family Funeral Home in Dade City.
