Jane Emily Comer
Comer, Jane Emily, 55, of Ridge Manor, FL, beloved wife, daughter, sister and aunt was called home to the Lord on Friday, February 29, 2008. She was born in Gowanda, NY on February 26, 1953 to her parents Vilas and Alberta Gebhardt. She graduated from Oswego State University in 1975 with a B.S. in Elementary Education, from the University of South Florida in 1982 with a MA in Reading and had completed doctoral coursework at USF. Jane was a faithful member of Ridge Manor Community United Methodist Church in Ridge Manor who volunteered a great amount of time to the children of the church through the tutoring program and Pumpkin Patch, and cared for each and every member. She retired in 2007 after 32 years of teaching for the District School Board of Pasco County. She most recently worked as the reading specialist at Sand Pine Elementary School where she proved to be an indispensible asset who volunteered with the PTA, co-chaired the school’s Relay for Life team, and was known and loved by staff, students, and parents alike. She is survived by her husband Thomas M. “Marty” Comer, stepsons Jon and Cory, mother Alberta A. Gebhardt, sister Lynda G. Ehrman, nephew Brett C. Ehrman, and two nieces Heather Harvey and Julia Mathes. “Aunt Janie,” as she was so lovingly called, was also an integral part of her great nieces’ and nephews’ lives (Elyse and Kayne Harvey and Mariah and Micah Ehrman). The family will receive friends for visitation on Tuesday, March 4 from 2-4 p.m. and 5-7 p.m at Hodges Funeral Home 11441 US Hwy 301. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, March 5 at Ridge Manor Community United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. with internment at Florida National Cemetary in Bushnell following the service. In lieu of flowers, Jane requested that donations be made to the Ridge Manor Community United Methodist Church building fund.
Edith C. McKinney
McKinney, Edith C. 90, of Zephyrhills, passed away on Friday, February 29, 2008 at Pasco Regional Medical Center. A native of Kentucky, she moved to this area in 1923. She retired from Kroger in 1983 and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Dade City. Survivors include Nina Sue Sturwold of Dade City; Earl and Dena Sturwold of Dade City, James and Jeanette McKinney of Land O’Lakes, and their children, Jeannie, James and Stephen, and special friends, Bernice Wiseman and Billie Jean Cunningham of Winchester, KY. Funeral services will be held in the 5th Street Chapel of Hodges Family Funeral Home at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 3, 2008 with Dr. James Renault officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Enterprise Cemetery.
Annette Jordan
Jordan, Annette, 75, of Lutz, passed away Thursday, February 28, 2008 in Tampa. She was born June 20, 1932 in Brewton, GA, to Charles Tillman & Hattie Boatwright Curl. She was a homemaker. She is survived by two sons & daughters-in-law: Vic & Betty Jordan, Greg & Stephanie Jordan; one brother & sister-in-law: Lacy & Barbara Curl; 4 grandchildren: John, Angela, Greg, Bryan Jordan; and 6 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 2pm Sunday, March 2, 2008 at the 54 Chapel of Hodges Family Funeral Home in Zephyrhills. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Gardens.
Rosemary B. Evans
Evans, Rosemary B., 66, of Zephyrhills, passed away Wednesday, February 27, 2008 in Dade City under the care of Hernando-Pasco Hospice. She was born September 11, 1941 in Elnora, IN to Lawrence & Georgia Burdsalle, moved to this area 11 years ago from Land O’Lakes, and was a registered nurse. She is survived by her husband of 44 years: Donald R. Evans, Zephyrhills, FL; her daughter: Karen Sue Williams, Roanoke, VA; her son: Thomas Evans, Zephyrhills, FL; two grandchildren: David Allen Vires and Rebecca Sue Vires, both of Roanoke, VA; two sisters: Joan Schmidt, Washington State, Jan Brewer, Ohio. Funeral services will be held 12pm Monday, March 3, 2008 at the 301 Chapel of Hodges Family Funeral Home in Dade City. Friends may call two hours prior to service time on Monday. In lieu of flowers, family request donations in her memory to Hernando-Pasco Hospice.
Tillie Ann Matejas
Matejas, Tillie Ann, 91, of Zephyrhills, passed away on Feb. 28, 2008 at Hernando-Pasco Hospice. She was born in Indiana Harbor, IN on 12-12-1916 to Lawrence & Frances Wegrzyn. She was predeceased by her husband, Stanley J. Matejas and a sister, Helen Thornberry. She was a former resident of the West Lebanon/Covington, IN area and was active in the St. Joseph Catholic Church for many years until moving to Florida. She is survived by her son, Richard Zacharias of Zephyrhills and two daughters, Rosemary (Bert) Beckford of Glendale, CA; and Carolyn Flores of Las Vegas ; a granddaughter Rebecca Flores of Las Vegas; a sister, Bernice Kilinski of Covington; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family received friends at the funeral from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday, March 2, 2008. A Funeral Mass will be be at St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Dade City at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 3, 2008. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery in San Antonio.
William "Sebo" Gaskin
Gaskin, William “Sebo”, 62, of Dade City, passed away Wednesday, February 27, 2008 in Dade City. He was born June 11, 1945 in Dade City to Lewis S. Gaskin and Ruby Mae Huff and was a lifelong area resident. He was the Commander of VFW Post # 4283 in Dade City and was a dedicated hunter and fisherman. He worked 38 years for Pasco County and was the supervisor of the Road and Bridge Department. He was the 1989 World Series Seniors Girls Softball League Coach. He is survived by his daughter: Sirena Gaskin; his son: Wade Gaskin; two grandchildren: Kaylee and Tyler Gaskin; two sisters: Linda Gaskins Peterson and her husband Bob, Bonnie Gaskin Turner; his companion: Tanya Dunlap; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents: Lewis & Ruby Gaskin; three siblings: Lewis Melvin, Ronald Eugene, and Mary Louise. Funeral services will be held 2pm Sunday, March 2, 2008 at the 301 Chapel of Hodges Family Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Williams Cemetery with military honors. Mavis M. Olivarez
Olivarez, Mavis M., 78, Zephyrhills, passed away Wednesday, February 27, 2008. She was born June 12, 1929 in Bay Settlement, WI. She has lived in Zephyrhills for the last 21 years. She is survived by her loving family including her husband of 62 years, Joe Olivarez; her children: Paul (Lois) Olivarez, Merritt Island, Mary (David) Parish, Silver Lake, WI, Thomas (Linda) Olivarez, New Port Richey, David (Darlene) Olivarez, Milwaukee, Daniel (Christine) Olivarez, Sussex, WI, Christopher (Donna) Olivarez, Milwaukee, WI and Kristine (Frank Oldenhoff) Meka, Racine, WI; siblings, Lou (Louie) Kanopwski, Stanley (Gail) Meunier, Marilyn Nittie and Mary Nelson; 15 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, many other family and friends. Visitation will be 2 to 3 pm Saturday at Hodges Family Funeral Home, Hwy 54 Chapel. Service will follow at 3 pm with Father George Rozycki officiating.
Betty Jo Barton
Betty Jo Barton, 65, of Zephyrhills, FL, loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and wife was called home to the lord at 10:05 p.m. February 25, 2008. Betty attended Calvary Assembly of God in Dade City. Today we rejoice in knowing that she has passed the barrier of time as we know it and is forever at home with the Savior she faithfully served for over 65 years. On June 3, 1958 she was married to Coy Barton who survives. Together, for more than 50 years, they experienced the changing scenes of life in the joyous and fruitful companionship, which the Lord had entrusted to them. For more than 38 years her smile graced the Tampa Wholesale Produce Market, where her and Coy grew a successful and prosperous business. Every customer, vendor, employee, or business associate could never forget "Miss Betty's" infectious smile, sharp mind, and eye for the best melon in town. She is the youngest of eight children, and is survived by 3 brothers and 3 sisters. She was called "Mom" by four pr ecious children; Brenda Singletary, Coye Barton, William Barton, and Todd Barton. She was preceded in death by her son Todd, and spoke of her excitement to see him again in heaven. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren by whom she was affectionately known as "Nanny." Nanny took great pride in her family. To everyone around she would make sure they knew that this was HER child or HER grandchild. For the past 6 years she has fought one health crisis after another with dignity, grace, and FAITH that could never be measured or matched. She stood on God's word and exclaimed to everyone that "Through God All Things Are Possible!" She has been a walking testimony and the vessel to save numerous souls. Yes, we grieve, but with a joyous hope. We ask that you too rejoice with us as we celebrate the culmination and crowning achievement of her life- Nanny's homecoming! The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, February 29, at Hodges Funeral Home, 114 41 US Hwy 301, Dade City, where services will take place at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 1. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Tampa.
Garfield Herrin
Herrin, Garfield 85, of Dade City passed away, February 26, 2008 at Westbrooke Manor Zephyrhills. He was born September 2, 1922 in Hilliard, Florida. He Graduated from Pasco High school and served in the United Stated Marines from 1941-1946. He is survived by his son , Rommie Herrin; daughter, Gale Daly; 4 grandchildren and 1 great grand child. Visitation will be 6-8 Thursday, February 29th at Hodges Family Funeral Home, 11441 US Hwy 301 Dade City. Funeral Services will be 11 AM Friday at the Funeral Home.
