Howard Hanley
Hanley, Rev. Howard J., 75, of Zephyrhills, FL, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Saturday, January 8, 2005 in Lakeland, FL. He was born June 3, 1929 in Belton, SC, to Dewey Hanley and Bessie Buffington Hanley. He was an Ordained Bishop with the Church of God having served on their General Council. He served in the ministry for 59 years and held positions at a number of churches in South Carolina and Tennessee. He also held the copyrights of several songs and hymns that he wrote over years. He retired to Zephyrhills one year ago from Word of Life in Sebastian, FL.
He is survived by 2 children: Deborah and David; 2 brothers: Hurshell Hanley and Charles Hanley, both of Belton, SC; 1 sister: Geraldine Ivey, Westminster, SC; and his close friend: Shirley O. Goebel, Zephyrhills, FL. He was preceded in death by 1 son: Howard Jonathan Hanley; and 2 brothers: Emmanuel Hanley and Dewey McIlwain Hanley.
Friends called from 4-6pm Monday at the Hodges Family Funeral Home & Cremation Center (formerly Kelly Memorial Funeral Home) in Zephyrhills. Funeral services were held at 6pm following the visitation with Rev. W. Harold Stoneman and Rev. Michael N. Hanley officiating. Burial will take place at the Belton City Cemetery in Belton, SC.

Steven Ross Douglas
DOUGLAS, Steven Ross, 52, of Dade City, died Friday, January 7, 2005 at home. A native and life-long resident of Dade City, he loved his children and grandchildren and was CB Radio enthusiast, going by the handle of "334PitBulldog". He was a welder and was in Agricultural Sales and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golf.
Survivors include a daughter, Stephanie Douglas of Zephyrhills; a son, Robbie Rust of Dade City; two brothers, Timothy Douglas of Trilby and Lawrence Douglas of Dade City; a sister, Sandra Donaldson of Elkins, West Virginia; and four grandchildren, Kameron, Victoria, Gage and Christian.
A memorial service was held in the chapel of Hodges Family Funeral Home at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 12, 2005 with Father Douglas Zimmerman officiating.

Ruby Owensby
OWENSBY, Ruby, 77, of Lacoochee, died Thursday, January 6, 2004 at the Hernando-Pasco Hospice Care Center in Dade City. A native of Salisbury, NC, she was a longtime resident of this area. She was a homemaker who loved to sew and was a member of Oak Ridge Missionary Baptist Church in Lacoochee.
Survivors include two children, Sharon Sheets of Dade City and Allen Hendrix of Okeechobee; a sister, Constance Boles of Salisbury, NC; eight grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Russell Owensby; three sisters, Mamie Lane, Peg Jackson and Lillian Benfield and by two brothers, Alfred Benfield and Ralph Benfield.
Funeral services were held in the chapel of Hodges Family Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 10, 2005 with Rev. Marvin Strickland officiating. Burial will follow at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell. The family received friends at the funeral home on hour prior to the service on Monday. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to Oak Ridge Missionary Baptist Church.

Wanetia Carter
CARTER, Wanetia, 81, of Dade City, died Wednesday, January 5, 2004 at Pasco Regional Medical Center. A native and lifelong resident of Dade City, she was a sectionizer for Kraft Foods and retired in 1981.
Survivors include four children, Wayne Carter of Brooksville, Gerald Carter of Dade City, Judy Latunski of Brooksville and Linda Beck of Dade City; ten grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held in the chapel of Hodges Family Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 8, 2004 with Pastor Willard Sessoms officiating. Burial followed at Floral Memory Gardens. The family received friends at the funeral home from 5-7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 7, 2004.

William "Bill" Hammond
Hammond, "Bill" William A., Jr. of Dade City, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Jan. 3, 2005. He was born in Smyrna, Georgia on November 13, 1918 to Mr. & Mrs. William Albert Hammond, Sr. He grew up in Smyrna, joined the Marines in October 18, 1943 and served in Okinawa until July 1, 1946. Before going to Okinawa, he married Sarah Elizabeth "Beth" Hudson from Dade City, Fla. on Dec. 23, 1944. Upon his return, they moved to Miami, Fla. where Bill worked at MacDill AFB for Eastern Airlines for 36 years, retiring in 1979. They raised 3 sons and a daughter in Hialeah, then retired to Dade City, Fla. where they just celebrated their 60th anniversary.
Survivors include his wife, Beth; his children, Stacy and her husband, Ron, Steven and his wife, Sharon, Wayne and his wife, Julie and Warren and his wife, Kuk; seven grandchildren, Tony, Adrianne, Sarah, Drew, Daniel, David and Victoria; and six step grandchildren and eight step great grandsons. His first great grandchild, Josey Denai, is due any day now.
Funeral services were held 1pm Thursday, January 6, 2005 at Hodges Family Funeral Home in Dade City with Dr. Jim Renault officiating. Burial followed at Mt. Zion Cemetery. Friends called Wednesday from 5-7pm at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations in his memory to the Mt. Zion Cemetery Association, c/o Annie Laurie Baldwin, 13845 12th Street, Dade City, FL 33525.

Ethel Migett
MIGETT, Ethel, 86, of Dade City, died Sunday, January 2, 2005 at Heritage Park Care Center. A Michigan native, she moved to Florida in the 1940's and to Dade City in 1998 from Port Richey. She was a retired hairdresser and was a past member of the Moose Lodge.
Survivors include a son, Wayne Woodward of Dade City; a step-daughter, Betty Tapscott of Norfolk, VA; a step-son, Bob Migett of Jacksonville, FL; and three grandchildren.

Leo Smith
SMITH, Leo, 84, of Dade City, died Sunday, January 2, 2004 at East Pasco Medical Center.
Survivors include five children, Bruce Smith and Robert Smith, both of Dalton, GA, Linda Crawford and her husband, Jerry of Webster, Leo Smith, Jr. and his wife, Dee of Sunray, TX, and Peggy Maddox and her husband, Bill of Plant City; a brother, Otho of Zephyrhills; three sisters, Veatrice Walker of Dade City, Flora Hill of Georgia and Sally Mae Martin of Dothan; his former wife of 27 years and the mother of his children, Florine Sanders; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Preston Smith and Ollie Oliver Smith.
The family received friends from 12 until 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 5, 2004 at the funeral home. Funeral services were held at the funeral home at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 5, 2004 with Rev. Marvin Strickland officiating. Burial, with military honors, was held at Florida National Cemetery.

Ollie Mae Mathis
MATHIS, Ollie, 88, of Dade City, passed away on Monday, February 7, 2005 at home with her family around her. A native of Cobbtown, Georgia, she moved to Florida in 1951. She was a homemaker and a member of Enterprise Baptist Church for many years. A devoted wife and mother, she loved the Lord, her family and friends. She will be dearly missed by all.
Survivors include three children, Hazel Simpson of Melbourne, FL, Barbara Tucker of Dade City and Johnny Mathis of Dade City; eight grandchildren; and thirteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Newborn Mathis and oldest son, Loyd Mathis.
Funeral services will be held at Enterprise Baptist Church at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 11, 2005 with Pastor Sydney Bronson officiating. Burial will follow at Dade City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. on Thursday evening at the funeral home.

James H. Rogers
Rogers, James H., 83, of Zephyrhills passed away Sunday, February 6, 2005 under the care of Hernando-Pasco Hospice in Dade City. He was born February 2, 1922 in Niles, MI, and moved to Florida in 1974. He has lived in the Zephyrhills area for the last 9 years, moving here from Eustis, FL. He was a Sales Engineer for Jack’s Air Conditioning in Dade City and was a WWII veteran having served in the Headquarters Squadron of the 13th Air Force serving in the South Pacific.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years: Grace Ann Rogers, Zephyrhills, FL; 8 children: Greg & Bonnie Rogers, Rockford, IL, Paulette & Bob Tatman, Rockton, IL, Sandra & Terry Nelson, Loves Park, IL, Patricia & Michael Busjahn, Davis, IL, Geralyn Rogers, St. Paul, MN, Susan & Joel Glickman, Boca Raton, FL, Barbara & Johnny Moore, Valrico, FL, John & Debbie Rogers, Riverview, FL; several grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 1 daughter: Cheri Rogers.
Funeral Mass will be held 10:30am, Thursday, February 10, 2005 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Zephyrhills with Father John Hays as celebrant. Friends may call Wednesday (tomorrow) from 4-6pm at Hodges Family Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Zephyrhills.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations in his name to Hernando-Pasco Hospice 7066 Fort King Road, Zephyrhills, FL 33541.
