Mary Kathleen "Katie" Hughes
Hughes, Mary Kathleen (Katie) of Zephyrhills, Fl., died June 27, 2006 at her home. Born October 16, 1913 to Ross and Anna ( Rissler) Finley of Harmony, Indiana. She married James A. Hughes on October 14, 1942 in Alexandria, IN. November 1974 they retired from Plainfield, IN to Zephyrhills, Fl, becoming Florida citizens on December 7, 1977. While residing in Indiana she was a member of the First Baptist Church, Clayton, Progressive Club, Hendricks County Garden Club, American Legion Auxiliary, and was a licensed Real Estate Agent. She was a graduate of Van Buren High School and attended Indiana State in Terre Haute, IN. In Zephyrhills Katie was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, American Legion Auxiliary. She was a former member of the Zephyrhills Garden Club and a member at Large Of Delta Theta Tau Sorority, Inc. Katie enjoyed her daily walks around town (her “therapy”), stopping to talk to people along the street, going to yard and church thrift shop sales and, quite often, having breakfast downtown, returning home in time for the delivery of her “Meals on Wheels” lunch, she fed and watched the squirrels and birds in her backyard. She enjoyed her simple, quite life. She described herself as a Happy Homemaker. Mary Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Agnes Trippett of Greencastle, IN in 1992, a brother, Wayne Finley of Harmony, IN in 1997 and her beloved husband of 54 years, Jimmie in 1996. She is survived by two nieces, Betty Anne (Mrs. Richard) Hoffman of Arcadia, IN and Karen (Mrs. Robert) Ruble of Springville, IN as well as 3 great nieces, Ann Ruffner, Michelle Ruble, and Megan Baldwin; and 2 great nephews, Jerry and Jeffrey Hoffman. In addition, 2 great, great nieces, Kathleen Hoffman and Kate Ruffner and 2 great, great nephews Michael and Andrew Hoffman. She also leaves behind her much loved and extended family of Zephyrhills, friends and neighbors. Visitation at 1:00 PM July 7, 2006 with a Memorial “Service of Remembrance” following at the Hodges Family Funeral Home, 36327 Hwy 54, Zephyrhills. Rev. John Harris, Minister of The First Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Burial will be private at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Meals on Wheels 38145 15th Ave, Zephyrhills, Fl.; Hernando- Pasco Hospice 7066 Ft. King Rd. Zephyrhills, Fl.33541 or The First Presbyterian Church, 5510 19th St, Zephyrhills in her memory.
Anthony Shayne Hayes
Hayes, Anthony Shayne, 54, of Lacoochee, FL, passed away Wednesday, June 28, 2006 in Dade City under the care of Hernando-Pasco Hospice. He was born April 21, 1952 in Dade City to George Edison Hayes and Fannie Helen Cox Hayes, and was employed in the restaurant industry. He is survived by his mother: Fannie H. Hayes, Lacoochee, FL; his sister: Crystal Bohannon, Zephyrhills, FL; and 2 brothers: Warren Dale Hayes, Webster, FL, and Michael Shawn Hayes, Zephyrhills, FL. Graveside services will be held 10am Saturday, July 1, 2006 at Indian Hill Cemetery in Bushnell, FL. Friends may call from 5-7pm, Friday evening, at the Hodges Family Funeral Home 301 Chapel in Dade City.
Gwendolyn Hoy
Hoy, Gwendolyn, 75, of Ridge Manor, left this life on June 27, 2006. Mrs. Hoy was born in Frederick, Maryland on December 27, 1930 to parents Ira and Edna Hartman. Mrs. Hoy moved to this area from Maryland 46 years ago with her beloved husband Marvin L. Hoy. During her years here she faithfully attended the First Baptist Church of Ridge Manor where she also served as the financial manager. She loved gardening, flowers, and crafts. She is survived by her husband and her son Larry A. Hoy also of Ridge Manor. Visitation for Mrs. Hoy will be held at Hodges Family Funeral Home (11441 U.S. Hwy 301, Dade City) on Sunday, July 2nd from 2:30 to 4:30 pm with services being held on Monday, July 3rd at 10:30am. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Gardens Cemetery.
Bruce Michael Nugent
Nugent, Bruce Michael, 70, of Dade City, passed away June 26, 2006 in Clearwater, under the care of Suncoast Hospice. He was born in Winchester, KY, on March 5, 1936 to Nell M. Nugent and Vernon T. Nugent. He grew up in Cincinnati, OH; He graduated from Deer Park High School, the University of Cincinnati, and received his Master’s Degree from FSU. He moved to the Tampa Bay area in 1964,was a retired Librarian from the St. Petersburg Public Library System, and a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. He is survived by his brother: Dr. Jeffrey T. Nugent, Atlanta, GA; his sister: Rev. Tara Susnjar, Land O’ Lakes, FL; nieces: Courtney A. Susnjar, Samantha M. Millwood, Dr. Kelly Motz; grandnieces: Hannah Millwood, Sadie Millwood, and Savannah Motz. Funeral services will be held 1pm Saturday, July 1, 2006 at Hodges Family Funeral Home 301 Chapel. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his memory to The Hospice of the Florida Suncoast, 5771 Roosevelt Blvd., Clearwater, FL 33760.
Ronald K. "Ron" Price
Price , Ronald K., “Ron”, 65, of Ridge Manor, died Tuesday, June 27, 2006 at Hernando-Pasco Hospice House in Dade City. A native of Warsaw, Indiana, he had been a long time resident of this area. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be missed by all those who knew him. He was a US Army Veteran having served in Germany. An avid sports fan, he was formerly employed at St. Leo University as a security guard. Survivors include his wife, Christina; his father, Everett Price of Milford, IN; a daughter Rhonda Kieper and her husband, Scott of Wesley Chapel; a son, Michael Price and his wife, Amanda of Lacoochee; a brother, Thomas Price of Warsaw, IN; a sister, Anne Troup of Milford, IN; and four grandchildren, Brandon, Logan and Cameron Kieper of Wesley Chapel and Olivia Price of Lacoochee. He was predeceased by his mother, Leona and by a sister, Vickie Hill. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11-12 p.m. on Monday, July 3, 2006 with funeral services at 12 noon at the funeral home. Burial will follow with military honors, at Florida National Cemetery.
James R. Stone
STONE, James R., 49, of Dade City, died Tuesday, June 27, 2006 at Pasco Regional Medical Center. A life long resident of Dade City, he worked in the lawn care industry. Survivors include his wife, Frieda; three children, Heather, Garret and Jessica; several step children; three half sisters; two half brothers; two adopted sisters; and his Step Mother, Vernie Stone. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on July 5, 2006 with Chaplain John Heufel, Jr. presiding.
David Slocum
Slocum, David, 69, of Dade City left this life on June 25, 2006 while under the care of Hernando-Pasco Hospice. Mr. Slocum was born in Michigan on February 13, 1937 to parents Lester and Ella Slocum. He served his country in the United States Navy from 1956-1960, during which time he moved to Jacksonville. He then moved to Lakeland before finally settling in Dade City with his family. In death Mr. Slocum is reunited with his beloved wife Evelyn of 39 years and his father. He is survived by his mother, Ella, his sisters Linda Painter and Sue Donovan of Michigan, and his brother Lester Slocum Jr. of Texas. He also leaves behind three loving daughters Laura (Andrew) Barthle, Carrie (Mathew) Barthle, and Sheryl (Phillip) Fisher, and five grandchildren Andrea Barthle, Ashley Barthle, Chelsey Barthle, David Barthle, and Elyn Fisher. Mr. Slocum is described by his family as being a wonderful Grandfather, provider, and protector. He will be missed by all who knew him. His children wish to send a message to their father “We miss you and love you, Give Mom a great big kiss and hug from all of us!”
Arrangements were handled by Hodges Family Funeral Home, services will remain private. In Lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Hernando-Pasco Hospice.
Manuel Elio Penton, Sr.
PENTON, Manuel Elio, Sr., 74, went home to be with the Lord June 25, 2006. Manuel lived a full life always giving God the glory for all the many blessings in his life. He was a wonderful husband, a loving and caring dad and grandfather. He was amazing! He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Frances Penton; his devoted children, Cindy, Manuel Jr., and Sergio. He will be greatly missed by his eight grandchildren, Nicole, Manny, Nicky, Morgan, Ethan, Evan, Elyse and Ellie Cate. A celebration of his life will take place 10 a.m. Thursday, June 29, 2006, at Garden of Memories Chapel in Tampa, Florida. Burial will follow at Myrtle Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Sergio Penton, Manuel Penton, Jr., Robert Novakoski, Manny Penton, III, Bruce Burrows, Albert Oglesby, Dennis Olgesby, Jr. and Clint Oxley. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Life Path Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
Florence L. Oswald
Oswald, Florence L., 81, of Zephyrhills, passed away on Saturday, June 24th, 2006 at Florida Hospital Zephyrhills. She moved to Zephyrhills in 1982. She was a National Arts and Crafts Teacher and was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Zephyrhills. She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Kenneth; three sons, Glenn Davis, Manitou, MI; Robert Davis of Adrian, MI; and Richard Davis of Sand Creek, MI; a step daughter Peggy Oswald of Jackson, MI; a sister Margaret Kungelman of Gregory, MI; 7 Grandchildren; 6 Great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. A memorial service will be held at Hodges Family Funeral Home (Hwy 54 west chapel) on Wednesday, June 28 at 2:00pm, with Reverend Norman Springer officiating.
