Nicholas “Nick” Schweighoffer
Schweighoffer, Nicholas “Nick”, 87 years of Spanish Trails, Zephyrhills, Florida, passed away, Thursday, July 27, 2006 at Florida Hospital Zephyrhills. He was born October 28, 1918 in Hungary, he came to the United States when he was 18. He has lived in Zephyrhills the last several years, moving from Flint, Ohio.. He was a World War II Army veteran. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. He had been a inspector for Chrysler Motor Company. He married Sue Turbyfill on May 19, 2003 in Zephyrhills. He is survived by his wife, Sue; a daughter, Elizabeth O’Connor, of Kent, Ohio; a granddaughter, Lisa Schrechengart of Atwater, Ohio; two great grandsons Shawn and Nicholas; and many friends. A Memorial Mass will be 11 am Monday, July 31 at St Joseph Catholic Church with Father John Hayes celebrating. Inurnment will be at a later date at Florida National Cemetery.

Walter Higginson
Higginson, Walter, 84 of Zephyrhills, passed away Thursday, July 27, 2006 at Sunbelt Healthcare Center of Zephyrhills. He was born September 9, 1921 in Brunswick, Georgia, the son of Joseph and Laura Belle Miller Higginson and grandson of Mark and Emily Higginson. He came to the Higginson Family Homestead, Zephyrhills as an infant and where he lived all his life except for him serving in the US Navy. His mother passed away when he was a child and was raised by his father and his stepmother, Ruth Corliss Higginson. He served as a Seabee in the US Navy during World War II. He was a member, an officer and Sunday School Superintendent Emeritus of the First United Methodist Church, Zephyrhills. He retired from Zephyrhills Water, having worked as a poultry farmer, welder in ship yards, typewriter repairman, Ford Motor Company Parts Manager, a US Mail carrier and drove school buses. He attended St. Leo Preparatory and USF in education science. He was a 4-H leader. He is survived by two sisters, Ruth Eikeland of Tampa and Dorothy Frazer of Tampa; many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, many cousins and many dear friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Kenneth Higginson. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Monday, July 31 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Ford officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Oakside Cemetery, Zephyrhills.

Anne F. Tyte
Tyte, Anne F., 86, of Hernando, Florida, passed away Monday, July 24, 2006 at Hospice House of Citrus County, Lecanto, FL. She was born October 1, 1919 in Manchester, England, the daughter of Alex and Annie Elizabeth Wood. She met her husband, Robert C. Tyte in England during WWII. They married and she moved to the US in 1947. She and her husband owned and operated Hilltop Drive In and later, Bob and Ann's on the Truck Route, both in Dade City, She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Robert C. Tyte, a daughter, Patricia Tyte and a son, Robert M. Tyte. She is survived by three daughters, Linda and her husband Irvin Cook of Inverness, Peggy Carrington of Dallas, TX and Dottie Morgan of Morganton, NC; 2 sons, Mike Tyte of Inverness and David Tyte of Zephryhills, her brother, Alex Wood of Manchester, England; 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Friends may call from 10-11:30 am Thursday, July 27 at Hodges Family Funeral Home, Highway 301 Chapel, in Dade City. Graveside services will follow at Floral Memory Gardens, Dade City. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice House, 3350 W. Audubon, Lecanto, Florida 34461

Robert L. Nichols
Nichols, Robert L., 81, of Zephyrhills, died Wednesday, July 26, 2006 at University Community Hospital in Tampa. A native of Malone, NY he moved to this area in 2001 from Saylorsburg, PA. He was a retired Contractor and Woodworker and attended St. Joseph Catholic Church in Zephyrhills. He was a US Navy Veteran during WWII and was assigned to the Seabees building airstrips in the South Pacific. He was an avid basketball fan and was an all state player at his high school in the early 1940’s. Survivors include four children, Rachel Bigler of Tampa, Diane Pellek of Zephyrhills, Paula Miller of Ballston Lake, NY, and Lawrence Giangrasso of New York; a sister, Grace Besaw of N. Syracuse, NY; nine grandchildren, Theresa Reinholtz, Robert, Theresa, Matthew, Andrew, and Samantha Pellek, Joseph, Jr., Toni, and Debby Giangrasso; and six great grandchildren, Amber and Hunter Ledo, Christina, Jacquelina and Logan Castro, and Jasmine Pellek. He was predeceased by his wife, Theresa Ann, and a son, Joseph Giangrasso. Funeral services will be held in the 8th Street Chapel of Hodges Family Funeral Home on Saturday, July 29th , 2006 at 11:00 a.m. with Father John Hayes as celebrant. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to The National Emphysema Foundation, 15 Belden Avenue, Norwalk, CT 06850.

Jerry Wyley Rosier
Rosier, Jerry Wyley, 66, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, July 25, 2006 in Dade City, Florida. A life long resident of the area, he was born on March 22, 1940 in Lacoochee to parents Elter Roosevelt Rosier and Johney Shaw Rosier. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, a member of First Baptist Church of Ridge Manor, a recent retiree of Withlacoochee River Electric Cooperative, and served in the United States Army. Mr. Rosier is preceded in death by his parents, he is survived by his wife, Carol; his children, Donna Jackson, David Brown, and Patricia Raposa, all of Dade City; his beloved grandchildren Bobby Jackson, Candice Jackson, and Benjamin (BJ) Raposa, all of Dade City; his siblings, Glenda Fay Goolsby (Johnie) of Ridge Manor, Linda Gayle Tadlock (Dwight) of Trilacoochee, and William Roy Rosier (Judy) of Lacoochee; and numerous niece, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He will be missed by all who knew him. Visitation will be held at Hodges Family Funeral Home on Thursday, July 27, 2006 from 6:00 – 8-00pm and a service will be held the following day July 28, 2006 at 10:00 at the funeral home with interment following immediately at Chapel Hill Gardens Cemetery.

Lloyd Spanton
SPANTON, Lloyd, 82, formerly of Zephyrhills, passed away July 20, 2006 in Charlotte, Michigan. He was born November 10, 1923 in Medina, New York. He was a 1940 graduate of Medina High School, and a former Postmaster of Medina, NY, retiring in 1978. Mr. Spanton was a veteran of World War II, having served in Europe and was a member of the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Medina, the Independent Order of the Odd Fellows, and the Tourist Club of Zephyrhills. He was predeceased by his first wife, Delight, in 1988, and his second wife, Grace, in 2005. He is survived by daughters Linda Dial (Arlie) of Watauga, TN, Barbara Hoag (Ron) of Springport, MI; step-daughter Mary Lou Gilbert (John) of Zephyrhills; step-son William Gilbert of Bouckville, NY; and 6 grandchildren. Visitation will be held Thursday, July 27, at 11:00 at Hodges Family Funeral Home in Zephyrhills. A graveside service will follow at 1:00 at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell. Contributions may be made in Mr. Spanton’s name to Eaton Community Hospice, 2675 S. Cochran, Charlotte, MI, 48813.

Patricia Ruth Greenough
GREENOUGH, Patricia Ruth, 64, of Dade City, Florida Passed away July 23, 2006 surrounded by her family. Born May 22, 1942, she enjoyed crafts, shopping, movies and spending time with family and friends. She leaves to cherish her memory a loving and devoted family. Four adoring daughters, Kimberlee Greenough of Zephyrhills, Bethann Moore of Belton, Texas. Patti Moore of Winter Haven. Coleen Greenough of Zephyrhills. Nine Grandchildren-Daniel, Stacy, Eric, Heather, Adam, Jason, Matthew, Laura & John. Her 3 Son‘s-in Law Gary, Roberto & Charles. Siblings John & Joseph Brodt , Mary Jordan. Her late parents Seymour & Mary Brodt and a host of loving family and friends. A memorial service will held in her honor at Hodges Family Funeral Home, 36327 Hwy 54, Zephyrhills, Tuesday, July 25th at 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in her honor to Hernando-Pasco Hospice, 37445 Clinton Ave., Dade City, FL 33525.

Jan B. Turner
Turner, Jan B., 57 years of Zephyrhills, passed away suddenly, Friday, July 21, 2006 at Florida Hospital Zephyrhills. She was born February 5, 1949 in Tampa the daughter of George and Norma Hall. She has lived in Zephyrhills since 1991. She is survived by her husband of 15 years, Kevin Turner; her brother, William and his wife Lynn Hall of Land O' Lakes; her sister Charlee and her husband, Gage Hall of Land O' Lakes; her nephews, Michael Hall and Christopher and his wife Amy Hall and a great niece, Kaitlyn Hall. Jan loved to bowl and was on several bowling leagues. She was a former Wal-Mart Supervisor. She will be missed by her loving family and her many friends that she touched throughout her life. A memorial visitation will be 10-12 next Saturday morning, July 29 at Hodges Family Funeral Home, 36327 Highway 54, Zephyrhills. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family in her memory.

Louis "Chink" Mercer
Mercer, Louis “Chink”, 66, of Lacoochee left this life on July 20, 2006 while surrounded by his loved ones. Chink was born in Lacoochee on June 14, 1940 to parents Lewis and Goldie Courtland. Mr. Mercer was very proud to be a life long resident and loved to fish, hunt, and was a member of the fox hunters association for many years. He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years Sandra McKendree Mercer, two daughters Mary Catherine and Sandra Elizabeth Mercer; two sons Billy (Sherry) and Tom (Kathy) Beverly; one brother Wayne (Janice); two sisters Mildred (Leon) Bates and Imogene (Bunk) Sanders. Chink was also the proud grandfather to five grandchildren Britney Sandoval, Jordan Beverly; Tonya Burns, Megan Beverly and Justin Beverly. He is survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, and will be missed by all who knew him. Services will be held at Hodges Family Funeral Home (11441 U.S. Hwy 301, Dade City), Visitation hours will be held on Sunday, July 23 from 5-7 pm and a service will be held on Monday, July 24 at 10:00am at the First Baptist Church of Lacoochee with burial following at Linden Cemetery.

Shirley Downs
Downs, Shirley, 72, of Dade City left this life on July 20, 2006. Mrs. Downs was born in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania on November 16, 1933 to parents William and Jane Morrow. She spent much of her life in Georgia and moved to Dade City 13 years ago with her beloved husband of 53 years, Robert. She was an active member of the Red Hat Society and South Fork women’s society and loved bowling, playing cards, golf and line dancing. She is survived by her husband, her son Robert (Pam) Downs Jr. of Fayetteville, GA, her daughters Sharon (Bruce) Martin of Wesley Chapel and Linda (Larry) Clouse of Warner Robins, GA, her grandchildren Christina Swopes of Springfield, MO, Michael Cannon of Fort Bragg, NC, Joshua Cannon of Byron, GA, Brittney Downs of Athens, GA, Robert Downs 3rd of Fayetteville, GA, and Lindsey Downs of Fayetteville, GA. Mrs. Downs is also survived by her sister Betty Stafford of Tybee Island, GA and two great-grandchildren Payton Swopes of Springfield, MO and Lathen Cannon of Byron, GA. A memorial service will be held for Mrs. Downs on Saturday July 22, 2006 at Hodges Family Funeral Home (11441 U.S. Hwy 301, Dade City) at 11:00am.

Lucy Tan
TAN, Lucy, 64, of Wesley Chapel, died Thursday, July 20, 2006 at University Community Hospital. A native of Surabaya, Indonesia, she moved to Florida in 1974 and to this area in 2003. She was a homemaker and a member of Victorious Life Church in Wesley Chapel. Survivors include her husband of 39 years, Peter Tan, MD; two sons, Paul Tan, MD and his wife Alison Young-tan, MD of Cleveland, Ohio and Joseph Tan, MD and his wife, Cynthia of Savannah, Georgia; a sister Evy Ong and her husband, Thomas of Lakeland; a brother, Lukas Tan, MD and his wife, Siu Lan Tan of Jacksonville; and one grandson, Braden Tan of Cleveland. The family will receive friends at the 301 Chapel of Hodges Family Funeral Home on Saturday (Today) from 12:30 p.m. until time of services at 2:00 p.m. with Pas Joe van Heerdan officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Gardens.

Noel H. Nodine
NODINE, Noel H., 86, of Trilby, died Wednesday, July 19, 2006 at Pasco Regional Medial Center. A native of this area since 1928, he served in the US Army/US Army Air Corps during WWII in the Pacific Theatre and with the US Air Force during the Korean conflict. He was a heavy equipment operator and retired as a civil servant at McDill AFB in 1987. He was a member of the DAV, the American Legion and was Baptist. Survivors include his companion Evelyn Williams of Trilby; five daughters, Sharron Bush of Tampa, Elaine Ellerbee of Ridge Manor, Kay Adkins of Trilby, Teri Sigler of Lutz and Tracy Fahy of Dade City; a son, Timothy Nodine of Lutz; a sister, Juanita Coward of Sparks, Nevada; a brother, James Barton of Troy, Michigan; 14 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, 5th Street Chapel, from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, July 24, 2006. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 25, 2006 with Rev. Marvin Strickland officiating. Burial will follow at Florida National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name should be made to the Heart and Lung Association: National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute; Building 31, Room 5A48;31 Center Drive MSC 2486 Bethesda, MD 20892.
