LAKELAND -- Mr. Nathan Ostrowsky of Lakeland died of heart failure Friday (April 22, 2005) at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. He was 90.
Born in Lawrence, Mass., on Aug. 14, 1914, he came to Lakeland in 1975 from Binghamton, N.Y. He was a meat and poultry inspector for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He was active at the Lakeland Family YMCA, where he created the water aerobics program, and the Lakeland Regional Medical Center Auxiliary. He was a member of MENSA. He was member of Temple Emanuel of Lakeland.
Mr. Ostrowsky was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Ceclia Ceyl Ostrowsky, who died in 2002. He is survived by his son, Jonathan Ostrowsky, Newton, Mass.; daughter, Diane Claerbout, Stanford, Calif.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Dukes-Steen Funeral Home of Lakeland. Burial will follow in the Temple Emanuel Cemetery at Oakhill.
FREDERICK DE ROOS, 82
Chemical Engineer
WINTER HAVEN -- Mr. Frederick A. de Roos of Winter Haven died of heart failure Friday (April 22, 2005). He was 82.
Born Jan. 31, 1923, in Indonesia, he came to Winter Haven from Cumming, Ga., in 2004. He was a chemical engineer for Dupont for 30 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Columbia, S.C. He was a veteran of World War II.
Mr. de Roos is survived by his wife, Arnolda de Roos, Winter Haven; sons, Frans de Roos, Rhinefelden, Ronald de Roos, Winter Haven; daughter, Juanita de Roos, Suwanee, Ga.; four grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 p.m. this afternoon at Oak Ridge Funeral Care, Haines City.

WYNNIE DUKE, 93

OVIEDO -- Ms. Wynnie Grace Duke of Oviedo died Thursday (April 21, 2005). She was 93.
Born Nov. 10, 1911, in Tarversville, Ga., she was a resident of Haines City for 64 years before moving to Oviedo from Winter Haven four years ago. She was a secretary for Babson Park Grove Service and Reality Inc. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Haines City, Ridge Audubon Society, Haines City Garden Club, Daughters of the American Revolution and United Daughters of the Confederacy.
Ms. Duke is survived by her brother, Jasper Hilley, Oviedo.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Forest Hill Cemetery.

MARY CORINGRATO, 81
Homemaker
PALMETTO -- Mrs. Mary Dorothy Coringrato of Palmetto died of complications from a stroke Thursday (April 21, 2005). She was 81.
Born March 19, 1924, in Camden, N.J., she was a resident of Lakeland before moving to Palmetto in 2001. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Palmetto, and St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Lakeland.
Mrs. Coringrato is survived by her husband of 43 years, Albert Coringrato Sr., Palmetto; sons, Albie Coringrato and Anthony Coringrato, both of Tampa, Harvey Gaunt, Palmetto; three grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. this afternoon at Heath Funeral Chapel, with wake service at 3:30 p.m. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
Anita Stuart, 75, Artist
MULBERRY -- Mrs. Anita Rose Stuart of Mulberry, who died of heart failure Saturday (April 23, 2005) at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, was a skilled painter of landscapes. She was 75.
Born Feb. 17, 1930, in Chicago, she came here from Pocahontas, Ark., in 1997.
"She was a very loving, gentle woman, " her husband, Robert Stuart, said.
After giving birth to her first child, she left college to stay at home.
"She was about 15 hours from being done, " he said.
During this time, she painted and created the landscapes that now hang on the walls of their home.
"Her painting was just in her, " Mr. Stuart said.
After raising her children, she decided to return to school to finish her degree, Mr. Stuart said.
Mrs. Stuart enjoyed traveling across the country with her family, mostly camping in the woods. She would often refer to her husband's travel photos while painting, he said.
In 1997, Mrs. Stuart retired to Florida where her children and grandchildren live.
"She was very loving of the kids, " her husband remembered. "They just brought a smile to her face."
She was a member of ImperiaLakes Country Club.
Mrs. Stuart is survived by her husband of 53 years, Robert Stuart; daughters, Linda Christine Donaldson, Susan DeCamp Giliam and Janis Mason, all of Lakeland, Laura Stuart-Piel, Findlay, Ill.; brother, William Bennett, Chicago; sister, Dolores Giannini, Mount Prospect, Ill.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Gentry-Morrison Southside Chapel.

Melissa Galomb, 51, Homemaker
AUBURNDALE -- After being diagnosed with breast cancer in 1996, Mrs. Melissa Lynne Galomb became a strong advocate of breast cancer awareness and a pillar of support for other women in the community who also have the disease.
"Everybody called my mom for advice and my mom is like `It is in the Lord's power. That is what it is all about, ' " her daughter, Tasha "T.J." White of Auburndale, said.
"She walked in the walk-athon (for breast cancer) in Auburndale for at least four years. Even when she couldn't walk, she was still there."
The homemaker died of breast cancer Wednesday (April 20, 2005) at home. She was 51.
Born in Oakland, Calif., on Sept. 27, 1953, Mrs. Galomb came to Auburndale from California when she was 6 months old. She graduated from Auburndale High School.
Mrs. Galomb, a homemaker for much of her life, enjoyed traveling, particularly to New York City.
"My mom would get chemo on Wednesday and go to New York City on Friday, " White said. "Her and my stepdad traveled to Russia, but New York City was the big thing. They went on cruises. She did a lot right up until the very end."
Mrs. Galomb raised her granddaughter, Kendall, following the death of her daughter-in-law in 2002.
She served as past president of the Junior Women's Club in Auburndale. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Winter Haven.
In addition to her daughter, Tasha White, Mrs. Galomb is survived by her husband of 19 years, Gerald "Jerry" Galomb; mother, Peggy L. Williamson, Auburndale; sons, Derrick Welch, Auburndale, Timothy Galomb, Apopka, Brian Galomb, Lakeland; brothers, W.H. "Bill" Williamson III, Winter Haven, James Craig Williamson, Auburndale; three grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Kersey Funeral Home, 108 E. Lake Stella Drive, Auburndale. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Grace Lutheran Church in Winter Haven.
RALPH HAYGOOD, 57

LAKELAND -- Mr. Ralph J. Haygood of Lakeland died of pneumonia and kidney failure Wednesday (April 20, 2005) at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. He was 57.
Born in Rome, Ga., on Sept. 2, 1947, Mr. Haygood came to Lakeland from Dade City in 1980. He was a truck driver for Superior Paving of Lakeland.
Mr. Haygood is survived by his wife, Jeanne Haygood; son, Rickey Nelson Haygood, Mason City, Iowa; daughter, Theresa Astin, Winter Haven; sister, Glenda Young, Dade City; brothers, Gene Haygood, Zephyrhills, Ernest Haygood, Lithia, Bill Haygood, Jacksonville, Joe Haygood, Dade City, Jerry Haygood, Perry; three grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 this morning at Lakeland Funeral Home. Services will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home chapel.
