FORT MEADE -- Mrs. Cynthia Shree Allen of Fort Meade died of heart failure Monday (April 25, 2005) at home. She was 42.
She was born in Bartow on Nov. 16, 1962. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Peaceful Believer's Church in Fort Meade.
Mrs. Allen is survived by her husband, Alonzo Allen; daughters, Lakeysha Wilcher, Winston-Salem, N.C., Alexis Allen, Arian Allen, both of Boynton Beach; sons, William Freeman, Alonzo Allen, both of Fort Meade; sisters, Barbara Gooden, Loxahatchee, Margaret Franklin, Elois Freeman, both of Fort Meade, Marilyn Jones, West Palm Beach; brothers, Wilbert Freeman Jr., Wimauma, Rudolph Freeman, Arthur Freeman, both of Fort Meade; three grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at Williams Funeral Home, Bartow. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home chapel.
JOHN AMMONS, 61

MULBERRY -- Mr. John Calvin Ammons Jr. of Mulberry died of congestive heart failure April 21, 2005, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. He was 61.
Born in Bartow on Sept. 6, 1942, he moved to Mulberry from there 25 years ago. He was a retired phosphate supervisor for IMC. He was a member of St. James AME Church in Bartow.
Mr. Ammons is survived by his wife, Mollie Denson Ammons; daughter, Ronda LaChery Ammons, Mulberry; son, John Calvin Ammons II, Mulberry; brother, Carl Mitchell, Bartow; sister, Connie Hill, Bartow; father, John Ammons, Bartow; four grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Williams Funeral Home, Bartow. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. James AME Church in Bartow.
CARL AUSTIN, 87

LAKELAND -- Mr. Carl William Austin of Lakeland died of heart failure Wednesday (April 27, 2005) at Highlands Lake Center. He was 87.
Born in Casnovia, Mich., on Feb. 16, 1918, he became a winter resident of Lakeland, coming from Sparta, Mich., more than 20 years ago. He was a farmer, and the owner and operator of Austin Nursery. He was also a truck driver. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Sparta and an associate member of Christ Lutheran Church in Lakeland.
Mr. Austin is survived by his wife, LaVerne Austin; sons, Jerry Austin, Sparta, Ronald Austin, Kent City, Mich.; daughter, Diana Kaufman, Sparta; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two greatgreat-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held later at Peace Lutheran Church in Sparta, Mich.

BABSON PARK -- Mrs. Marian L. Bergere of Babson Park died heart disease Sunday (April 24, 2005) at Good Shepherd Hospice Center in Auburndale. She was 96.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Oct. 29, 1908, she came to Babson Park from Miami 21 years ago. She was retired secretary for the city of Miami Water Department. She was of the Unitarian Universalist faith.
Mrs. Bergere is survived by her son, Roger G. Bergere, Babson Park; brother, Garry Lehnert, Towaco, N.J.; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, at Johnson Funeral Home Chapel.

LAKE WALES -- The Rev. Lewis B. Carithers of Lake Wales died of heart failure Sunday (April 24, 2005) at Lake Wales Medical Center. He was 93.
He was born in Reynolds, Ga., on Sept. 9, 1911. He was formerly pastor at Mount Calvary CME Church in Lake Wales, where he was also a member.
The Rev. Carithers was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Carithers. He is survived by his daughters, Evelyn Carter, Alapaha, Ga., Annie Flewellen, Lake Hamilton, Gladys Davis, Hillside, N.J., Mary Benjamin, Fort Pierce, Martha Wiley, Sylvester, Ga.; sons, Clinton Carithers, Hillside, N.J., Dodge Carithers, Stone Mountain, Ga., James Carithers, Albion, N.Y.; 41 grandchildren; 71 great-grandchildren; 30 great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Mount Calvary CME Church in Lake Wales. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Allen Temple AME Church in Lake Wales.

HAINES CITY -- Mrs. Wilma "Pat" Caterino of Haines City died of heart failure Tuesday (April 26, 2005) in Haines City. She was 62.
Born in Lepanto, Ark., on Jan. 29, 1943, she came to Florida from Arkansas in the late 1950s. She was a registered nurse at Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center. She was a member of Shamrock First Baptist Church.
Mrs. Caterino was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Caterino. She is survived by her sons, Carl Caterino III, Norfolk, Va., William Lowell Wilson, Haines City, Timothy Stephens Wilson, Dade City; daughters, Beverly NeSmith, Haines City, Nancy Wilson, Lakeland; brother, Wayne Anderson, Haines City; sister, Tommie Lou Reeves, Alabama; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Oak Ridge Funeral Care, 1001 Grace Ave., Haines City. Services will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home chapel.

LAKELAND -- Mr. Thomas DeWitt Cowles Jr. of Lakeland died of lung failure Wednesday (April 27, 2005) at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. He was 79.
Born in Troy, Ala., on May 20, 1925, he came to Lakeland from Pine Level, Ala., in 1979. He was a retired revenue examiner for the state of Alabama of 21 years. He worked at Peoples Bank for eight years and owned Anne's Laundromat in Lakeland for 25 years. He was a member of the alumni at the University of Alabama. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member and deacon at Edgewood Church of Christ.
Mr. Cowles is survived by his wife, Ann Cowles; children, Claire Sawyer, Destin, Carol Nunnelee, Troy, Ala., DeWitt Cowles III, Lakeland, Fan Morrison, Opelika, Ala., Kay Cato, Montgomery, Ala., William Cowles, Russell Cowles, both of Lakeland; nine granddaughters; six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Gentry-Morrison Southside Chapel. Services will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home chapel.

LAKE WALES -- Mr. James Henry Davis of Lake Wales died of cancer Saturday (April 23, 2005) at home. He was 63.
He was born in Lake Wales on June 25, 1941. He worked in security at the Seminole Hotel in Lake Wales. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Mr. Davis is survived by his daughter, Jacqulyn Davis, Lake Wales; sons, James Davis III, Zephyrhills, Aaron C. Davis, Gainesville; brothers, Charlie Davis, Newark, N.J., Samuel Howard, Avon Park; sisters, Ethel Blocker, Lake Wales, Connie Reed, Vero Beach; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Epps Mortuary, Lake Wales. Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at New Hope Freewill Baptist Church in Lake Wales.
