LAKE WALES -- Mr. Stephen O'Collins of Winter Haven died Friday (Aug. 12, 2005) at Lake Wales Medical Center. The cause of death is pending autopsy results. He was 37.
Born on June 6, 1968, he was a lifetime resident of the area. He was a member of Greater Refuge Church of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Mr. O'Collins is survived by his father, Sam Burgess, Newark, N.J.; mother, Sarah Brown, Winter Haven; brother, John Brown Jr., Winter Haven; and sisters, Felicia Lewis, Winter Haven, and Katina Brown, Orlando.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Charles Lewis Funeral Home, 1700 2nd St. N.W., Winter Haven. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. James Freewill Baptist Church, Winter Haven.

LAKELAND -- Ms. Candace Marie Aitken of Bartow died of cardiac arrest Wednesday (Aug. 17, 2005) at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. She was 61.
She was born Nov. 17, 1943, in Jersey City, N.J., and came here from Westfield, N.J., in 1971. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church.
Ms. Aitken is survived by her daughter, Sherry Sarfati, Brisbane, Australia; son, Daniel Kloska, Bartow; and three grandchildren.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church.

BROOKSVILLE -- Mrs. Dorothy Sumrell "Dot" Cole of Brooksville died of pancreatic cancer Saturday (Sept. 10, 2005) at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. She was 78.
Born in Raleigh, N.C., Mrs. Cole moved to Brooksville from Creedmoor, N.C., 12 years ago. She served as head nurse of the Duke University Hospital nursery in Durham, N.C., and co-owned Colenwood Stables. She attended Guess Road Baptist Church, Durham.
Mrs. Cole was preceded in death by her husband, William L. Cole Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Cole, Lakeland, and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell.

LAKELAND -- Mr. Edward Miles Brown of Lakeland died of heart failure Aug. 18, 2005. He was 50.
He was born in Wauchula on Jan. 20, 1955. He was an Army veteran. He was a member of True Holiness Church of Bowling Green.

WINTER HAVEN -- Mrs. Mildred S. "Millie" Boucher died of a stroke Saturday (Aug. 27, 2005). She was 84.
Born Aug. 5, 1921, in Detroit, Mrs. Boucher moved to Winter Haven from Metuchen, N.J., in 1998. She worked as a saleswoman in the Publix bakery. She attended St. Joseph Catholic Church, where she joined the Women's Club and St. Joseph Guild. She was a member of the Winter Haven Garden Club.
Mrs. Boucher was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, George Boucher Jr., and her husband of three years, Norman Desendorf. She is survived by her daughters, Cheryl Passwater and Suzanne Wilson, both of Auburndale; sons, Barry "Bear" Boucher and Brian Boucher, both of Winter Haven; sister, Dorothy Wiggins, Winter Haven; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

LAKE PLACID -- Mr. Albert Junior "J.R." Powell of Lake Placid died of cancer Tuesday (Aug. 23, 2005) at home. He was 62.
Born in Bonifay on May 23, 1943, Mr. Powell came to Lake Placid from Eagle Lake in 1989. He was a self-employed mobile home repairman. He was a member of the Lake Placid Moose Lodge. He attended First Baptist Church of Venus.
Mr. Powell is survived by his wife, Lynn Powell; sons, Bobby McGuire, Winter Haven, Blane Birge, Lake Placid; daughters, Audrey Carter, Lake Wales, Missy Powell, Winter Haven, Jewel Powell, Lake Placid; brothers, John T. LAKELAND -- Mr. L. Merlin Coates of Lakeland died of heart failure Wednesday (Aug. 17, 2005) at Florida Presbyterian Homes. He was 90.
He was born May 3, 1915, in Marion County, Ill., and came here from Winter Haven 17 years ago. He was vice president of Mueller Manufacturing Co. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and member of First Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Coates is survived by his wife, Evelyn Coates; sons, Ronald Coates, Williamston, Mich., Keith Coates, Lakeland; daughters, Joyce Lyon, North Chili, N.Y.; sisters, Norma Schein, Carlinville, Ill., Lorene Groves, Greenville, Ill., Roberta Young, Greenville, Ill., and Phoebe Delamarter, Louisville, Ky.; brothers, Herbert Coates, Greenville, Ill., and Robert Coates, Plant City; eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
