TAMPA -- Mr. James W. Fields of Mulberry died of cancer Tuesday (May 17, 2005) at the James A. Haley VA Hospital. He was 65.
Born Oct. 1, 1939, in Shreveport, Ind., he came here from Louisiana in 1993. He served in the U.S. Army. He was a truck driver with T & L Drilling. He was a Baptist.
Mr. Fields is survived by his daughter, Christina Fields, Bossier City, La.; brothers, Butch Fields, Okeechobee, Roger Fields, Blanchard, La., and B.J. Fields, Vivian, La.; sisters, Reba Ann Ramsey, Huntington, Texas, and Kathy Roy, Shreveport, La.; and companion, Mari Clark, Mulberry.
Visitation will be this evening from 6 to 8 at A.M. Seigler Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
JOHN CLEMENTS, 80
Citrus Worker
WINTER HAVEN -- Mr. John P. Clements of Winter Haven died of cardio-pulmonary disease Sunday (May 15, 2005) at home. He was 80.
Born Feb. 12, 1925, in Walker County, Ala., he came here from Alabama in 1951. He was a citrus worker. He was a member of Westwood Baptist Church and was a deacon there for 37 years.
Mr. Clements is survived by his wife, Louise L. Clements; daughters, Barbara Clements, Winter Haven, and Reba Duncan, Lake Wales; son, Johnny Clements, Winter Haven; five half-sisters; two half-brothers; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Westwood Baptist Church. Services will follow at the church.
David Matt, 74, Instructor
ORLANDO -- Mr. David Donald Matt of Haines City died of heart failure Tuesday (May 17, 2005). He was 74.
Born Nov. 26, 1930, in Garfield Heights, Ohio, he served in U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. In 1955, he was named soldier of the month for the military police battalion in Germany.
"They wanted to train him further to be the general's aide because he could speak a number of languages, but he left the service in order to pursue his education further, " said his wife, Vicki Matt.
He graduated from Ohio State University. He received his master's degree from Central Michigan University. He was an instructor at Wayne State University, teaching records management.
After leaving Ford Motor Credit Co., Mr. Matt helped lay the groundwork of Chrysler Credit Co. for credit and leasing. After 28 years with Chrysler, he retired in 1989. Shortly after, he moved to Haines City from Southfield, Mich., in 1991
He was a Tai Chi instructor at Lake Henry Estates for five years. He was an avid painter and pottery artisan.
"For his daughter's wedding, he made several little swans out of molds to put on the tables. He really loved it, " his wife said.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Matt is survived by his sons, James Donal Matt, Royal Oak, Mich., and Brian David Matt, Washington, D.C.; brother, Ralph Matt, Garfield Heights; and three grandchildren.
Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Ann's Catholic Church. Interment will be noon Monday at Florida National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Florida Hospital South, Cardiac Department, or St. Ann's Catholic Church, 1265 Robinson Drive, Haines City, FL 33844.

PAULINE MACK, 90
Cleaner and Presser
LAKELAND -- Ms. Pauline S. Mack of Lakeland died of cancer Sunday (May 15, 2005) in Lakeland. She was 90.
Born in Fort White, she came to Lakeland 74 years ago. She was a cleaner and presser at Southgate Cleaners. She was a member of Harmony Missionary Baptist Church for more than 70 years.
Ms. Mack was preceded in death by her husband, James Mack. She is survived by her daughters, Josephine Anthony, Lakeland, Claudia Lindsey, Jacksonville, and Christine Simmons, Lakeland; 14 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Harmony Missionary Baptist Church. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery.

BARTOW -- Mrs. Minnie Lee Williams of Bartow died of hypertension May 11, 2005, at home. She was 59.
She was born July 18, 1945, in Winter Haven. She was a cafeteria worker and employee of Wal-Mart.
Mrs. Williams is survived by her daughter, Wanda Leverett, Bartow, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church.
EDWARD KOSCHEN, 81

OPA LOCKA -- Mr. Edward Peter Koschen of Opa Locka died of lung cancer Wednesday (Aug. 24, 2005). He was 81.
Born Aug. 21, 1924, in Brighton, Mass., Mr. Koschen moved to Opa Locka in 1967. He served in the Navy and fought in World War II. He worked as an ocean engineer for the University of Miami. He was a lifetime member of the VFW. He was Catholic.
Mr. Koschen was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Koschen. He is survived by his companion, Stella Nixon, Bartow; stepchildren, Debbie Lee, Clay Bohman and Billy Bohman; sister, Gertrude Garrells, Cranstan, R.I.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Ott-Laughlin Funeral Home, Auburndale. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
SHAWN ARMSTRONG, 32

LAKELAND -- Mr. Shawn Armstrong of Lakeland died Wednesday (Aug. 24, 2005) at Lake Parker. The cause of death is pending autopsy results. He was 32.
He was born in Bartow on Aug. 10, 1973. He worked in construction.
Mr. Armstrong is survived by his father, Richard Armstrong; brothers, Ronald A. Valle and Ryan Williams, both of Lakeland; daughter, Kylee Armstrong, Madison; grandmother, Jean D. Albritton, Marianna; grandfather, Waymon A. Byars, Auburndale.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Gentry-Morrison Southside Funeral Home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home chapel.
