Oscar Collins, 60 Security Guard
LAKE WALES -- Mr. Oscar "Ed" Collins of Lake Wales worked side-by-side with his wife as a security guard.
Mr. Collins died of heart failure Saturday (Aug. 27, 2005). He was 60.
Born April 5, 1945, in Norton, Va., Mr. Collins moved to the Lake Wales and Winter Haven area as a child. He was Baptist.
Mr. Collins' wife, Linda L. Collins, said she was attracted to her husband's way of life.
"He just enjoyed life and liked to have a good time, " she said. Together they bowled, played pool and watched NASCAR races.
The two met while Mr. Collins worked as a cab driver. Shortly after they married they began working at Budd's Security Company, working shifts together guarding condos in Winter Haven.
"I'd never done anything like that. He was the one that got me into it, " she said.
At the office, Mr. Collins often left bouquets of flowers for his wife to find.
"He wouldn't tell you he loved you, but would do things to show you, " his wife said.
Mr. Collins is survived by his wife, Linda L. Collins; sons, Brian Edward Johnson, Lake Wales, Mark Anthony Hall, Alfa; stepsons, Dennis J. Albritton, Lake Wales, Charles Edward Teeter Jr., Lake Wales; and eight grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday at Marion Nelson Funeral Home, Lake Wales.

MARY BEGLEY, 87

WINTER HAVEN -- Ms. Mary E. Begley of Winter Haven died of kidney failure Saturday (Aug. 20, 2005). She was 87.
Born July 17, 1918, in Lexington, Ky., Ms. Begley moved to Winter Haven from there in 1986. She was a nurse. She was a Baptist.
Ms. Begley is survived by her son, Charles R. Lilly, Winter Haven, four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.
Services will be Thursday in Lexington.

DANIEL PREECE, 81

WINTER HAVEN -- Mr. Daniel Platt Preece of Winter Haven died of heart failure Aug. 9, 2005, in Winter Haven. He was 81.
Born Aug. 7, 1924, in Melrose, Mass., he came here from New Hampshire in 1980. He was employed by the U.S. Soil Conservation Service as an engineer. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He attended the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Lake Wales.
Mr. Preece is survived by his wife, Jean Preece; son, John Preece, Makanda, Ill.; daughter, Debra Samia, Center Conway, N.H.; sisters, Dorothea Harris, Vero Beach, and Barbara Renz, Massachusetts; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

EAGLE LAKE -- Mr. Richard Lander of Eagle Lake died Tuesday (Aug. 16, 2005) at home. He was 42.
He was born Oct. 3, 1962, in Chester, Pa., and moved to Eagle Lake three years ago from Orlando. He was a painter.
Mr. Lander is survived by his father, Richard Lander, Fort Myers; mother, Joan Black, Live Oak; brother, William E. Lander, Webster; and sisters, Janice Aponte, Orlando, Jean Lander, Orlando, Deborah Coleman, Live Oak, and Gail Lingo, Winter Springs.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Acts Ministry Inc., 3150 Dundee Road, Winter Haven.

HAINES CITY -- Mrs. Daisy Addison Alderman Iler of Haines City died of heart failure Wednesday (Aug. 10, 2005) in Davenport. She was 91.
Born in Colquitt, Ga., on Sept. 15, 1913, Mrs. Iler came to Haines City from there in 1928. She was a homemaker. She was a Baptist.
Mrs. Iler was preceded in death by her husband, Walter C. Alderman. She is survived by her daughter, Peggy Iler Duncan, Davenport; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Oak Ridge Funeral Care, 1001 Grace Ave., Haines City. Services will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Haines City.

WINTER HAVEN -- Mrs. Ella L. Smith of Winter Haven died of lung failure Saturday (Aug. 27, 2005) at Good Shepherd Hospice, Auburndale. She was 84.
Born Oct. 29, 1920, in North Carolina, Mrs. Smith moved to Winter Haven from there 14 years ago. She was a homemaker. She attended Salvation Army Church, Winter Haven.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband, Hubert O. Smith, Winter Haven.

LAKE ALFRED -- Mrs. Ethel Mae Butler of Lake Alfred died Tuesday (Aug. 23, 2005) in Lake Alfred. She was 83.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 this evening at Wells Memorial Funeral Chapel, Plant City. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Harmony Baptist Church. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens.
MARTHA PRITCHETT, 78

LAKE WALES -- Mrs. Martha T. Pritchett of Lake Wales died of heart failure Sunday (Aug. 7, 2005) at Tandem Healthcare in Winter Haven. She was 78.
Born in Nashville, Tenn., on Jan. 26, 1927, she came to Lake Wales from there in 1954. She was a retired teacher for the Vanguard School. She was a member of the American Association of University Women. She was a member of the Lake Wales Public Library Book Club and the Literacy Outreach. She was an actress for the Winter Haven Little Theatre. She graduated from Vanderbilt University with a bachelor's degree and from the University of South Florida with a master's degree. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and First United Methodist Church of Lake Wales, where she sang in the choir for 40 years.
Mrs. Pritchett is survived by her daughter, Grace Waldrop, Atlanta; sons, James Pritchett, Winter Haven, Douglas Pritchett, Orlando; one granddaughter.
Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church. Services will follow at 10 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Lake Wales Cemetery.
