WAVERLY -- Mrs. Margie Bernice Davis showed her flamboyant tastes in the clothes she wore and the crafts she made.
"I have a drawer full of Elton John-like sunglasses. She loved to wear big fancylooking sunglasses and clothes. Before leopard was in, she was wearing leopard and big pins, " said her daughter, Candee Davis Johnson of Winter Haven.
The lifelong Floridian and homemaker died of heart failure Thursday (Aug. 25, 2005) at Brandywyne Health Care Center. She was 82.
Born in Altamonte on Jan. 31, 1923, Mrs. Davis graduated from Apopka High School. She married C.M. "Junior" Davis on Feb. 2, 1946, in her parents' Apopka hotel.
The couple moved to Waverly from Apopka in 1946.
The homemaker demonstrated her crafty talents during the holidays for Carlton Flowers.
"She could just take anything and put it together and she had an eye for making floral arrangements, " Johnson said. "At Christmastime, everybody gave gifts to everybody, and all of her presents were always decorated on the top. It had a scene or it had birds.
All of her Christmas decorations were never wrapped with a bow, it had a scene on top. She was just a real Martha Stewart . . . before that was popular."
She served as a house mother at the Vanguard School for a year to assist in putting her daughter through college. She was also in charge of the annual Christmas plays for the Waverly Growers Christmas celebration for a number of years.
She was a member of Waverly Baptist Church.
In addition to her daughter, Mrs. Davis is survived by her husband, C.M. "Junior" Davis; sister, Alice Coleman, Apopka; three granddaughters; six great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that people tell someone dear to them how important they are in their lives.

SVEN SCHOOLEY, 19

WINTER HAVEN -- Mr. Sven Alexander Schooley died Saturday (Aug. 20, 2005) at his home. The cause of death is to be determined by an autopsy. He was 19.
Born Sept. 29, 1985, in Pozzuoli Naples, Italy, Mr. Schooley came here from Texas seven years ago. He was a tree surgeon with Tree Lady Co., Winter Haven. He graduated from Winter Haven High School in 2004. He was a member of the Church of Christ Faith.
Mr. Schooley was preceded in death by his mother, Ester Varga Schooley. He is survived by his father, Henry S. Schooley, Winter Haven; step-mother, Kay Schooley, Winter Haven; brothers, Dennis Schooley and Dean Schooley, both of Temple, Texas; step-sister, Heather Young, Winter Haven; step-brothers, Matthew Young, Auburndale, and Robert McCarty, Lakeland; maternal grandparents, Melanija and Guenther Pfuell, Germany; and paternal grandmother, Margie Webster, Fort Smith, Ark.
Visitation will be from 3 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at Kersey Funeral Home of Auburndale. Services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Frosty Frost, 77, Griffin Grove Service
LAKELAND -- Mr. Frosty Frost used his mechanical talents throughout his long career in the citrus industry.
"He worked on just about any type of equipment that was used in the citrus industry, " said his son, Timothy "Tim" Frost of Lakeland.
"He built one of the first self-propelled hedgers they used to hedge the groves with, " Timothy Frost said. "He was featured in some of the Florida citrus industry magazines."
The citrus grove owner and retired grove equipment mechanic for Griffin Grove Service died of complications of diabetes Sunday (July 31, 2005) at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. He was 77.
Born in Vidalia, Ga., on Feb. 16, 1928, he came to Alturas as a young boy and graduated from Bartow High School where he played football. He came to Lakeland from Alturas 50 years ago.
Mr. Frost was in the Army for two years during the Korean War, serving the majority of his tour in Fort Knox, Ky.
Citrus was a hobby as well as a career for Mr. Frost, who at one time owned as many as 50 acres of groves.
He was also interested in tractors.
"He loved his tractors. We've probably got 20 or 25 tractors at his house now. He collected tractors and he worked on them, " Timothy Frost said, noting that his father was mostly self-taught.
In his later years, he enjoyed driving his John Deere Gator around his groves with his two granddaughters accompanying him.
Mr. Frost worked for Griffin Grove Service for more than 20 years before he retired from the company close to age 65.
His son described him as a personable, outgoing man who would drop what he was doing to visit with his neighbors.
"When it came time to talk to a neighbor, everything else got put aside. It didn't matter what was going on, " Timothy Frost said.
He was a member of the Fly Wheelers Association. He was a Presbyterian.
Mr. Frost was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Evalina R. Frost, in 2000. In addition to his son, Timothy Frost, he is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Frost Brown, Memphis, Tenn.; sisters, Lucille Clements, Melbourne, and Johnnie Mae Hahn, Virginia; and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Seigler Funeral Home, State Road 60 East, Mulberry. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church of Highland City, 5410 Yarborough Lane, Lakeland.
ROBERT CRAIN, 90

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Mr. Robert H. Crain of Scottsdale, Ariz., formerly of Winter Haven, died of lung failure Monday (Aug. 22, 2005). He was 90.
Born in Orangeville, Ill., on July 22, 1915, Mr. Crain lived in Winter Haven before moving to Scottsdale. He was a manager in the bindery department at Wagner Printing Company in Freeport.
Mr. Crain was preceded in death by his wife, Lois. He is survived by his daughters, Nancy Lewis, Lockport, Ill., Linda Hawbaker, Scottsdale; son, Robert Crain, Apopka; eight grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild.
Visitation will be from noon to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Green Acres Mortuary, 401 N. Hayden Road, Mesa, Ariz. Services will follow at 12:30 p.m. at the mortuary. Burial will be in Glen Abbey Memorial Gardens in Auburndale.

NORMAN YOUNG, 87

DAVENPORT -- Mr. Norman Young of Davenport died of heart failure Aug. 17, 2005, in Davenport. He was 87.
Born in Springfield, Mass., on June 9, 1918, Mr. Young came to Davenport from St. Petersburg several years ago. He was a retired assistant advertising manager for Heublein Inc. of Hartford, Conn. He also taught advertising classes at Hartford and Western New England colleges. He received his master's degree from Boston University. He served aboard the USS Tisdale in the Pacific during World War II. He was an Episcopalian and served at St. Peters and St. Matthews Episcopal churches in St. Petersburg.
Mr. Young is survived by his wife, Dorcas Young; daughter, Koarin Foss, St. Petersburg; one grandson.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Sunday in the chapel at the Crossroads Health Center in Davenport.
