ARCADE, N.Y. -- Mrs. Laura L. McKee of Arcade, N.Y., who has family in Lakeland, died of lung failure Saturday (Aug. 27, 2005) at Winter Haven Hospital. She was 77.
She was born in Elmira, N.Y., on Dec. 19, 1927.
Mrs. McKee is survived by her daughter, Mary Rockwell, Utah; sons, Mike McKee, both of Lakeland, Doug Rockwell, St. Louis, Bill Rockwell, Cummings, Ga., John McKee, Arcade, N.Y., Larry McKee, Spring, Texas, Dave McKee, Wisconsin; three sisters; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

LAKELAND -- Mr. M. Cecil McKenna of Lakeland died of heart failure Friday (Aug. 19, 2005). He was 96.
Born Dec. 14, 1908, in Hubbarston, Mich., he came here from Lansing, Mich., 29 years ago. He was a member of St. Anthony's Parish.
Mr. McKenna is survived by his wife, Virginia McKenna, daughters, Kathy Page, Canandaigua, N.Y., Jackie Blalock, Grand Rapids, Mich., and Sharon Bartley, Lansing, Mich.; son, Jerry McKenna, Columbus, Ohio; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be in Michigan.
MARGARET McCOOK, 86

LAKELAND -- Ms. Margaret McCook died of cancer Sunday (Aug. 21, 2005). She was 86.
Born to Hungarian parents Nov. 11, 1918, in Auburn, Ill., she grew up in Winter Haven. She was a model at Cypress Gardens in the 1930s. After living in California and New York, she moved to Lakeland in 1950. She was a home nurse's aide and active member of the Senior Center.
Ms. McCook is survived by her son, Dr. Bruce Black, Atlanta; sister, Irene Fusco, Fort Myers; and two grandsons.
ARLENA McCARTHY, 78

LAKELAND -- Mrs. Arlena Smith McCarthy of Lakeland died of cardiac arrest Thursday (Aug. 18, 2005) at Lakeland Regional Medical Center.
She was 78.
Born in Troy, Ala., she came to this area in 1943. She worked in environmental services for Lakeland Regional Medical Center and Florida Southern College, retiring in 1992. She was a member of Pilgrim Rest Freewill Baptist Church, its Sunday School, Home Mission and Love in Action.
Mrs. McCarthy was preceded in death by her husband, Noel McCarthy. She is survived by her son, John C. Harris, Lakeland; a stepson, Sammie Outley Jr., Lakeland; daughters, Eva L. Laidler, Lena Mae McKay, Louise Howard and Linda Howard, all of Lakeland; step-daughter, Eunice Outley Cunnigham, Lakeland; brothers, George Smith and Willie Smith, both of Lakeland; sisters, Hazel Rodmon, Eva M. Laneair and Mamie Smith, all of Lakeland; 18 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Pilgrim Rest Freewill Baptist Church, 1047 N. Ohio Ave. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

ORLANDO -- Mr. Robert G. "Bob" Green of Haines City died of heart complications Thursday (Aug. 18, 2005) at Orlando Regional Medical Center. He was 69.
Born Aug. 17, 1936, in Sylacauga, Ala., he came here from Phoenix in 2004. He was an engineering manager. He was a member of Aloha Shriner's A.A.O.N.M.S., Honolulu; El Zaribah Shriner's A.A.O.N.M.S., Phoenix; Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, Pheonix; Coosa Valley Lodge No. 929 of F&AM; of Alabama; Order of the Eastern Star past patron, Honolulu; and past ring master Aloha Temple Clown Core. He was a U.S. Air Force sergeant for 25 years. He attended Winter Haven Baptist Church.
Mr. Green is survived by his wife, Marion L. Green; son, David M. Green, Phoenix; and sister, Laura Brown, Arley, Ala.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Winter Haven Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow the visitation at the church.

LAKELAND -- Mrs. Ruth Allen Ford of Lakeland died of cancer Thursday (Aug. 18, 2005) in Lakeland. She was 89.
She was born April 13, 1916, in Simpson, Ala. She worked in housekeeping. She was a member of Lotela Avenue Church of God.
Mrs. Ford is survived by her sons, Hayward Allen Jr., Lakeland, Harrison Allen, Lakeland, John Allen, Marietta, Ga., and Quincy Allen, Lakeland; daughters, Annie Allen, Hazel Keith, Vivan Canady, and Myra Roudtree, all of Lakeland; sisters, Beatrice Williams, Mildred Ford, and Lois Pugh, all of Lakeland; brothers, Dewey Wilson, Lakeland, L.C. Wilson, Lakeland, James Monroe Wilson, Lakeland, George Wilson, Lakeland, and Albert Wilson, Miami; 27 grandchildren; and 56 great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Lotela Avenue Church of God. Services will will be 11 a.m. Saturday at New Bethel AME Church.

LAKELAND -- Mrs. Geneva B. Buchwald of Lakeland died of respiratory arrest Monday (Aug. 22, 2005) in Lakeland. She was 82.
Born Nov. 11, 1922, in Americus, Ga., she came here from St. Petersburg in 1991. She was a buyers aide with Raytheon Systems in St. Petersburg. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Buchwald is survived by her daughters, Karen Wallace, Lakeland, and Dalene Colbath, Eatonton, Ga.; sister, Mary M. Rodes, Chino Valley, Ariz.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Christ United Methodist Church, 745 Lake Miriam Drive, Lakeland.

WINTER HAVEN -- Mr. Sven Alexander Schooley died Saturday (Aug. 20, 2005) at his home. The cause of death is to be determined by an autopsy. He was 19.
Born Sept. 29, 1985, in Pozzuoli Naples, Italy, Mr. Schooley came here from Texas seven years ago. He was a tree surgeon with Tree Lady Co., Winter Haven. He graduated from Winter Haven High School in 2004. He was a member of the Church of Christ Faith.
Mr. Schooley was preceded in death by his mother, Ester Varga Schooley. He is survived by his father, Henry S. Schooley, Winter Haven; step-mother, Kay Schooley, Winter Haven; brothers, Dennis Schooley and Dean Schooley, both of Temple, Texas; step-sister, Heather Young, Winter Haven; step-brothers, Matthew Young, Auburndale, and Robert McCarty, Lakeland; maternal grandparents, Melanija and Guenther Pfuell, Germany; and paternal grandmother, Margie Webster, Fort Smith, Ark.
Visitation will be from 3 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at Kersey Funeral Home of Auburndale. Services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
