LAKELAND -- Mr. Elmer Ray Shelton of Lakeland died of heart failure Saturday (Aug. 20, 2005) at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. He was 79.
Born in Winter Haven on July 14, 1926, Mr. Shelton was a lifelong resident. He was a courtesy security guard at Carlton Arms South in Lakeland. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Willow Oaks Assembly of God in Mulberry.
Mr. Shelton is survived by his wife, Naomi Shelton; sons, Ray R. Shelton, Ocean Park, Wash., Dennis Shelton, Corvallis, Ore.; stepsons, Greg Waters, Gainesville, John Waters, Lakeland; daughters, Mildred Lieberman, Tel Aviv, Israel, Elizabeth Shelton, Winter Haven; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Willow Oaks Assembly of God in Mulberry.

PANAMA CITY -- Mrs. Marie "Lorayne" Junn of Panama City, formerly of Lakeland, died of sepsis Wednesday (Aug. 17, 2005). She was 75.
Born May 5, 1930, Mrs. Junn moved to Panama City from Lakeland a year ago. She was a homemaker. She was Protestant.
Her survivors include her daughters, Joanne Wilson, Orlando, Vera Knowles, Lakeland; sons, Terence Junn, Panama City, George Junn, Buffalo, N.Y.; sister, Vera Westbrook, New Albany, Ohio; brother, Jack Boyler, Buffalo; nine grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Glen Abbey Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Auburndale.

WINTER HAVEN -- Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Murray Rood of Winter Haven died of Parkinson's disease Sunday (Aug. 21, 2005) in Jasper. She was 83.
Born Dec. 20, 1921, in West Palm Beach, Mrs. Rood moved to Winter Haven from Keystone Heights in 1998. She worked for Riverside Hospital as director of nursing and also worked as a home health care nurse. She attended Auburndale Presbyterian Church, where she joined the Presbyterian Women's Association.
Mrs. Rood was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Stephen Rood Jr. She is survived by her daughters, Linda Rood Taylor, Jasper, Susan Rood Player, Palatka; son, Raymond Stephen Rood III, Interlachen; brother, Sidney Murray, Palmetto; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be held later.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Auburndale Presbyterian Women's Association.

LAKELAND -- Mr. Robert Lee Clanton of Fort Meade died of heart failure Monday (Aug. 15, 2005) at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. He was 57.
He was born Oct. 24, 1947, in Bartow and moved to Fort Meade from Bartow 44 years ago. He was a heavy equipment operator. He was a Baptist.
Mr. Clanton is survived by his father, Robert Lovette Clanton, Fort Meade; mother, Rena Belle Clanton, Fort Meade; son, William Lee Clanton, Fort Meade; stepsons, Garret Burroughs, North Carolina, and David Lee Burroughs, New York; daughter, Delia Dawn Clanton Fotheringham; brothers, Raymond William Clanton, Fort Meade, Lacey Newton Clanton, Davie, David Andrew Clanton, Zolfo Springs; sisters, Frances Poole, Cadwell, Ga.; and three grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the MoodyBrant Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m.

PLANT CITY -- Mr. Robert James Barrington of Plant City died of heart failure Saturday (Aug. 27, 2005). He was 68.
Born Dec. 29, 1936, in Miami, Mr. Barrington moved to Plant City from Fort Myers 15 years ago. He worked in the automobile paint and body industry.
Mr. Barrington is survived by his wife, Jean Barrington; son, James Robert Barrington, Coral Springs; daughters, Joy Jean Barrington Henderson, Plant City, Candace Jeanette Hovey, Raleigh, N.C., Tiny Jean Clayton, Long Island; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Wells Memorial Funeral Home, Plant City. Services will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
MAXINE WALLS, 76

LAKELAND -- Mrs. Maxine Mildred Walls of Lakeland died of cancer Friday (Aug. 19, 2005). She was 76.
Born Sept. 1, 1928, in Kathleen, Mrs. Walls lived in this area her entire life. She taught in the Polk County School District for 24 years. She attended First Baptist Church at the Mall in Lakeland. She volunteered for Lakeland Regional Medical Center as a Pink Lady.
Mrs. Walls is survived by her son, Darryl Walls, Lakeland; daughters, Judy Tynes, Carrollton, Ga.; daughter, Peggy Sherrouse, Fort Smith, Ark.; sister, Opel Harrelson, Kathleen; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church at the Mall. Services will follow at 11 a.m. at the church.

FROSTPROOF -- Mrs. Evelyn Claitt Sanford of Frostproof died of heart failure Thursday (Aug. 11, 2005) at Lake Wales Medical Center. She was 82.
She was born on July 26, 1923, in Americus, Ga., and came here from Sylvester, Ga., in 1958. She was a homemaker. She was a member and deaconess at St. John Missionary Baptist Church and served on the Mother Board.
Mrs. Sanford is survived by her daughter, Mary H. Blakely, Savannah, Ga.; stepson, Issac Sanford, Frostproof; stepdaughters, Cleotha Randall, Vera Lewter and Louise Sanford, all of Frostproof, and Cecil Mae Morgan, Newark, N.J.; sisters, Mary L. Williams, Albany, Ga., Sarah M. Everson, Frostproof, and Annette Page, the Bronx, N.Y.; brothers, Aaron Calitt Jr., Frostproof, Willie J. Claitt and Raymond Claitt, both of Avon Park, Johnny L. Claitt, Moultrie, Ga., and John F. Claitt, Season, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren; and many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will on Wednesday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at St. John Missionary Baptist Church. Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the church.

PLANT CITY -- Mr. Edward Ray Harper of Plant City died of congestive heart failure Sunday (Aug. 13, 2005) in Plant City. He was 63.
He was born Feb. 7, 1942, in Senica, S.C., and came here from South Carolina 30 years ago. He worked in the construction industry. He was a Baptist.
Mr. Harper is survived by his wife, Darlene Harper; son, William Thomas Harper, Lakeland; stepdaughter, Debra Moore, Plant City; brother, Michael Harper, Anderson S.C.; and four grandsons.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Friday at 5 p.m. at Debra Moore's home.
