FORT MEADE -- Mrs. Alma Owens Kidwell of Fort Meade died Sunday (Aug. 14, 2005) at Bartow Memorial Hospital. She was 91.
She was born on Feb. 11, 1914, and was a lifelong resident of Fort Meade. She was a homemaker. She was a Baptist.
Mrs. Kidwell was preceded in death by her husbands, Henry Owens and Frank Kidwell. She is survived by her daughters, Joan Lastinger, Joyce Vaughn and Geraldine Overstreet, all of Fort Meade; son William Owens, Avon Park; seven grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at McLean Funeral Home, 306 E. Broadway, Fort Meade. Funeral services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Mount Pisgah Cemetery.

LAKELAND -- Mr. Alfred J. Alvarez of Lakeland died of heart failure Monday (Aug. 22, 2005) at Palm Terrace of Lakeland. He was 93.
Born in Mexico on Jan. 16, 1912, Mr. Alvarez moved to Lakeland from New York City 13 years ago. He unloaded cars for the railroads.
Mr. Alvarez served in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II.
His survivors include brothers, Raymond J. Alvarez, New York City, John J. Alvarez, Casselberry; Charles J. Alvarez, Lakeland; sister, Beatrice M. Alvarez.

ONAL MORRISON, 78

LAKELAND -- Mr. Onal "Dewey" Morrison of Eaton Park died of kidney failure Sunday (Aug. 21, 2005) at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. He was 78.
Born Oct. 9, 1926, in Kanawha Head, W.Va., he moved her from Freedom, Pa., in 1989. He was a security guard for Southeastern University for 13 years.
Mr. Morrison is survived by his wife, Edna Morrison, Eaton park; sons, Dennis Morrison, Oliver Morrison and Shawn Morrison, all of Lakeland; daughters, Eleanor Hostetler and Shari Marinkovic, both of New Brighton, Pa., and Kathy Gagianas, Baden, Pa.; two sisters, Genevieve Gregory, Conway, Pa., and Iva Waugh, Buckhannon, W.Va.; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at 4 p.m. Friday at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home, Buckhannon, W.Va. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

WINTER HAVEN -- Mr. Allan R. Parks of Winter Haven died of cancer Saturday (Aug. 13, 2005). He was 77.
Born July 25, 1928, in Abaco, Bahamas, he moved here from there in 1987. He owned Allison's, a retail clothing store in the Bahamas.
Mr. Parks was preceded in death by his wife, Ancie Parks. He is survived by his son, Allan G. Parks, Winter Haven; daughter, Allison Crutchfield, Winter Haven; brother, Roy Parks, Bahamas.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Ott-Laughlin Funeral Home, Winter Haven.

LAKELAND -- Mr. John Henry Panawash of Lakeland died Thursday (Aug. 25, 2005) at home. He was 85.
Born in Waukesha, Wis., on Feb. 20, 1920, Mr. Panawash came to Lakeland from there 23 years ago. He was a coremaker for International Harvester. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a Catholic.
Mr. Panawash was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa Puhl Panawash. He is survived by his daughters, Peggy Oettinger, Waukesha, Wis., Deanna Hess, Hartland, Wis., Pam Crater-Strickland, Cary, N.C.; son, Stephen Panawash, Watertown, Wis.; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.
Burial will be in Florida National Cemetery.

WINTER HAVEN -- Ms. Linda Jean McGovern of Winter Haven died Wednesday (Aug. 24, 2005) at home. She was 46.
Born in Jersey City, N.J., on Sept. 5, 1958, Ms. McGovern came to Winter Haven from Pompano Beach eight years ago. She was a licensed practical nurse at Auburndale Oaks Nursing Home.
Ms. McGovern is survived by her mother, Virginia A. McGovern, Winter Haven; daughters, Christina Lynn Gosselin-Divis, Charlotte, N.C., Melissa Jean Hyde, Tampa; sisters, Virginia Bicknell, Port St. Lucie, Kathleen Gerstner, Coral Springs; brothers, Charles McGovern, Charlotte, N.C., Thomas McGovern, Winter Haven, Dennis McGovern, Crystal River; companion, Fred McAninch, Winter Haven.

LAKE WALES -- Mrs. Minnie Lee Thomas of Lake Wales died of lung failure Tuesday (Aug. 23, 2005) at Kindred Hospital South in Tampa. She was 68.
Born in Hampton, S.C., on Nov. 29, 1936, she came to Lake Wales from Lake City in 1954. She was a nurse technician at Ridge Convalescent Center in Lake Wales. She was a member of First Institutional Missionary Baptist Church in Lake Wales.
Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie L. Thomas. She is survived by her daughters, Lucille Hawkins and Shirley Rose, both of Lake Wales, Anne Johnson, Tallahassee; sons, Bennie Thomas, Lake City, Jimmie Thomas, Johnny Thomas, Wilburt Thomas and Tony Thomas, all of Lake Wales, George Thomas, Benton Harbor, Mich.; sisters, Alice Perry, Lake City, Marie Smith, Jacksonville, Linda Thomas; brothers, Henry Gillyard, Lake Wales, Dallas Gillyard, Tampa, Eugene Evans, Lake City; 31 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

ORLANDO -- Mrs. Elaine P. Bartos of Orlando died of cancer Friday (Aug. 19, 2005). She was 65.
A native of Bartow, Mrs. Bartos lived in Central Florida for many years. She was a homemaker. She attended Warrenton Baptist Church in Virginia and Orlando Baptist Church.
Mrs. Bartos is survived by her sons, Scott C. Bartos, Arlington, Va., Todd L. Bartos, Denver; daughter, Amy L. Peavley, Jeffersonton, Va.; brothers, Ray Prevatt, Alabama, Lloyd Prevatt, Juneau, Alaska; sisters, Willene Thomas, Melbourne, Alice Hall, Merritt Island; two grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. today at Osceola Memory Gardens Funeral Home, Kissimmee. Services will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
