LAKE WALES -- Mrs. Elsie Mae Culberson of Lake Wales died of heart failure Wednesday (Aug. 10, 2005) at home. She was 84.
Born in Roanoke, Ala., on Oct. 20, 1920, Mrs. Culberson came to Lake Wales from Sebring in 2000. She was a retired nurse, having worked in nursing homes and private homes. She was a member of Waverly Baptist Church.
Mrs. Culberson was preceded in death by her husband, Robert H. Culberson. She is survived by her daughters, Kathleen Carr, Barbara Pearson and Ina Culberson, all of Lake Wales; sister, Orene Ocaine, Tampa; six grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Pinecrest Cemetery in Sebring.

James McCray, 102, Lumberman, Has Died
WINTER HAVEN -- Mr. James McCray of Winter Haven died of heart failure Monday (Aug. 29, 2005) at the Meadows Nursing Home. He was 102.
Born in Natchez, Miss., on Aug. 12, 1903, he came to Winter Haven from Sacramento, Calif., five years ago. He was a retired lumberman and worked for Westel-Oviatt Lumber Co. for 40 years. He was a member of the Elks and the Masons.
Mr. McCray is survived by his wife, Myrtis McCray; daughters, Morie McCray, Winter Haven, and Linda McCray, Anchorage, Alaska; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

WINTER HAVEN -- Mr. David James Synek of Winter Haven died of heart failure Wednesday (Aug. 24, 2005) at Winter Haven Hospital. He was 57.
Born in Kalamazoo, Mich., on May 7, 1948, Mr. Synek came to Winter Haven from there 35 years ago. He was a security officer. He was a Baptist.
Mr. Synek is survived by his wife, Betty J. Synek; daughters, Tammy Casey, Alaska, Jennifer Buchanan, Tulsa, Okla.; stepson, Tony Waters, Winter Haven; stepdaughter, Lori McKown, Winter Haven; mother, Inez Kopperman, Winter Haven; stepfather, Gene Kopperman, Winter Haven; sister, Cheri Smith, Winter Haven; nine grandchildren.

WINTER HAVEN -- Mrs. Elizabeth Day McNutt of Winter Haven died Wednesday (Aug. 17, 2005) of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. She was 84.
She was born on Dec. 14, 1920, in Matoon, Ill., and came here from Beverly Hills, Calif., in 1969. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. McNutt was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Moore. She is survived by her grandson, William T. Hamel, Gotha.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Humane Society or the Salvation Army.

ISIDRO GONZALES, 44

WAUCHULA -- Mr. Isidro Gonzales of Wauchula died Saturday (Aug. 13, 2005) in Wauchula of injuries suffered in a car accident. He was 44.
He was born on Feb. 19, 1961, in Luling, Texas, and was a lifelong resident of the Wauchula area. He was a site merchandiser for Neal Communities in Bradenton. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bowling Green.
Mr. Gonzales is survived by his wife, Alicia B. Gonzales, Wauchula; daughters, Andrea M. Gonzales and Christina A. Gonzales, both of Wauchula; father, Cecilio Gonzales, Wauchula; brothers, Ramon Gonzales and Cecilio Gonzales Jr., both of Wauchula; and sister Sylvia Gonzales, Winter Haven.
A memorial service will be held on Friday at 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Bowling Green.

LAKELAND -- Mr. Frederick Collier of Lakeland died of heart failure Monday (Aug. 15, 2005) at Oakbridge Healthcare. He was 89.
He was born on Feb. 17, 1916, in Nova Scotia and came here from Lynn, Mass., in 1973. He was a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church.
Mr. Collier is survived by his son, John A. Collier, Atkinson, N.H.; daughter, Loraine J. Presley, Lakeland; and sister, Mae Husson, Alton, N.H.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
Services will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Gentry-Morrison/ Dukes Steen Chapel.

BARTOW -- Mrs. Emma L. Schultz of Bartow died Sunday (Aug. 14, 2005) at Rohr Nursing Home in Bartow of complications from a stroke. She was 88.
Born Aug. 22, 1916, in Lewistown, Pa., she came here from Zainesville, Ohio, 24 years ago. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Bartow. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Schultz was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Schultz. She is survived by her son, James R. Schultz, Leesburg, and two grandchildren.
STEVEN DAWSON, 48

LAKELAND -- Mr. Steven Michael "Scooby" Dawson of Lakeland died of cancer Friday (Aug. 12, 2005). He was 48.
Born Nov. 13, 1956, in Hollywood, Calif., Mr. Dawson moved to Lakeland from Ashland, Mass., in 1973. After retiring from carpentry he volunteered with the Sons of AMVETS Squadron 32, where he served as provost marshal and first vice commander. He was a member of Lakeland Moose Lodge 945.
Mr. Dawson is survived by his wife, Shirley Dawson; son, Steven Michael Dawson II, Lakeland; daughters, April Dawson, Jessica Dawson and Jessica Hitchcock, all of Lakeland, Shannon Dawson, Clearwater; father, Richard Dawson, Hallandale; sisters, Marlene Davidson, Springhill, Candace Dawson, South Carolina; brother, Richard Dawson II, Minnesota; six grandchildren.
Visitation will be this evening from 5 to 7 at Central Florida Casket Store, Lakeland. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Cornerstone Baptist Church, Lakeland.
