POLK CITY -- Mrs. Jewel Cason of Polk City died of complications of heart disease Thursday (Aug. 5, 2004) at home. She was 82.
Born in Cullman, Ala., on Dec. 5, 1921, she came to Polk City in 1973. She was a retired citrus worker for Snively's Citrus. She was a Baptist.
Mrs. Cason is survived by her husband, Alfred Cason; son, Jack Edwards, Wahneta; daughters, Margie Woessner, Wahneta, Wanda Ballard, Grand Seline, Texas, Carolyn Burns, Polk City; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Ott-Laughlin Funeral Home, Auburndale. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Glen Abbey Memorial Gardens.
DOUGLAS CROWLEY, 39
Welder
DUNDEE -- Mr. Douglas S. "Dump" Crowley of Dundee died of heart failure Monday (Aug. 2, 2004) in Dundee. He was 39.
Born in Bartow on Aug. 5, 1964, he was a lifelong resident of Polk County. He was a welder and worked for Trailer Rebuilders in Dundee. He was a member of the Assembly of God on Rifle Range Road.
Mr. Crowley is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann Crowley; daughters, Christina Crowley, Tiffany Crowley, both of Wahneta; brothers, Hank E. Crowley, Winter Haven, Gayle Dewayne Crowley, Wahneta, Johnnie Crowley Jr., Boston, Michael Lee Crowley, Dundee; sisters, Wanda Sue Wright, Auburndale, Lottie L. Mason, Dundee; father, Johnnie W. Crowley, Wahneta.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 this evening with a prayer service to follow at 7 p.m. at Steele's Family Funeral Service, Winter Haven. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Auburndale Memorial Park.
WAYNE FEAGLE, 65

GAINESVILLE -- Mr. Wayne Earl Feagle of Gainesville died of heart failure Tuesday (Aug. 17, 2004). He was 65.
He worked for Glen St. Mary Nursery, Dundee. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Winter Haven.
Mr. Feagle is survived by his brothers, Ray Rema Feagle, Lake Wales, and Eugene Feagle, Haines City.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Lakeside Memorial Park.

William Hagerman, 94, Worth Steel Co.
LAKELAND -- Through his work as a mechanical engineer, Mr. William A. Hagerman turned concepts into realities, his son said.
Mr. Hagerman died of heart failure Thursday (Dec. 22, 2005). He was 94.
Born Dec. 26, 1910, in Coatesville, Pa., Mr. Hagerman moved to Lakeland from Wilmington, Del., in 1951, after retiring as manager of the Worth Steel Co.
After moving to Lakeland, Mr. Hagerman began the Hagerman Co., a machine shop and foundry. Raised as a Quaker, he had a reputation as an honest businessman.
"He wasn't super religious, but he believed in being the person he was supposed to be -- someone of high ideals, " said his son, Richard Hagerman of Lakeland.
Mr. Hagerman later opened the Imperial Marine Center. The companies brought him business from local industries such as phosphate and citrus.
"He invented the first fluorimeter in Florida, " his son said. The device measured the amount of uranium, a valuable metal, in phosphate byproduct.
Among his other inventions was a juicer that sliced and squeezed oranges.
"It was about the size of two ATM machines. The idea was to put these in public so people could drink fresh O.J., " his son said.
Though the inventions were often commissioned from larger companies, Mr. Hagerman "always had an inventive mind, " his son said. "He was known in Central Florida as someone who could take a concept and make it work."
Mr. Hagerman was a member of the American Iron Steel Institute, Lakeland Yacht & Country Club, Bradenton Yacht Club, Shriners and Sons of the American Revolution. He was also a Rotarian and 32nd degree Mason. He was Episcopalian.
Mr. Hagerman was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Hagerman. He is survived by his son, Richard Hagerman, Lakeland; daughter, Carole Donlon, Lakeland; five grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. on Jan. 7 at Heath Funeral Chapel, Lakeland.

LAKE WALES -- Mr. Francis Ernest Jr. of Lake Wales died of heart failure Sunday (Aug. 22, 2004) at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. He was 61.
Born on April 8, 1943, he came to Lake Wales from Dundee six years ago. He was a driver for MTI Transportation. He was a Navy veteran.
Mr. Ernest is survived by his wife, Sue Ernest; daughter, Donelle Ernest, Fort Myers; stepchildren, Harry Sension, Tina Sension, Iowa, Jackie Brown, Tampa; brother, David Gebhart, Phoenix; five grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 this evening at Ott-Laughlin Funeral Home, Winter Haven.
MALACHI THOMAS, 92
Grove Caretaker, Minister
LAKE WALES -- The Rev. Malachi Edwin Thomas of Lake Wales died of cardio-vascular disease Tuesday (Aug. 3, 2004) in Winter Haven. He was 92.
Born May 5, 1912, in Ray City, Ga., he came here from Ray City in 1960. He was a grove caretaker for Waverly Growers and Citrus World. He was associate minister of Allen Temple AME Church, Lake Wales.
The Rev. Thomas was preceded in death by his wife, Naomi Ann Thomas. He is survived by his son, Douglas M. Thomas, Winter Haven; daughters, Astorline Smith, Lake Wales, Thelma Jean Thomas, St. Petersburg; sister, Ermase Evans, Mulberry; 10 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held this morning at 11 at Allen Temple AME Church, Lake Wales.

Joe Ramsey, 75, Contractor
BABSON PARK -- Mr. Joe Pree Ramsey Sr. came to Polk County in 1950 and became an active member of Second Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Babson Park, where he served in several capacities over the years.
"He became ordained as a deacon back in 1952. He was very active and very dedicated to his church work, " his wife of 53 years, Viola E. Ramsey, said.
The retired building contractor died of heart disease Sunday (Aug. 8, 2004) at Lake Wales Medical Center. He was 75.
Born in Rosebud, Ala., on March 26, 1929, he came to Babson Park from Alabama.
He worked as a building contractor for many years, initially working for an employer. He later became self-employed, working primarily on homes in the Babson Park, Lake Wales, Avon Park and Sebring areas. "He would build them from the ground up, according to the plans, " Viola Ramsey said. "He worked until his health failed him."
Mr. Ramsey was a Sunday school teacher and superintendent of Sunday school at Second Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Babson Park.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Ramsey is survived by his sons, Joe P. Ramsey II, Tallahassee, Richard G. Ramsey, Macon, Ga., Ronald E. Ramsey, Arlington, Mass., Nathaniel J. Ramsey, Oldsmar; daughters, Helena Hawthorne, Patricia Lovett, Orlando, Linda Ramsey, Dallas, Ga., Brenda Ramsey, and Hope Ramsey, both of Babson Park; 22 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Epps Mortuary, Lake Wales. Services will follow at 11 a.m. at the mortuary.
ELTON POWELL, 68
Ben Hill Griffin
FROSTPROOF -- Mr. Elton U. Powell of Frostproof died of heart failure Sunday (Aug. 15, 2004) at Bartow Memorial Hospital. He was 68.
Born in Glade Hill, Va., on Jan. 30, 1936, he came to Frostproof from there 56 years ago. He retired from the fruit receiving department at Ben Hill Griffin. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War and a member of First Baptist Church of Frostproof.
Mr. Powell is survived by his wife, Patricia M. Powell; daughters, Denise Powell Brown, Karen Powell Terrebonne, both of Frostproof; son, Elton Wayne Powell, Ellsworth, S.D.; mother, Nannie Lou Bousman, Babson Park; brother, Edgar B. Powell, Lake Wales; sister, Vaughn Cofer, Babson Park; seven grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday at Marion Nelson Funeral Home of Frostproof. Services will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Silver Hill Cemetery in Frostproof.
