BARTOW -- Mr. William T. Oster incorporated his longtime passion for sports into his method of teaching.
"He was very good with sixth-grade boys because he used sports to get them interested, and he actually taught a lot of them to play football and other games, " said his wife of 36 years, Etheleen Story Oster.
The retired educator for the Polk County School District died of heart failure Sunday (March 12, 2006) at Good Shepherd Hospice in Auburndale. He was 81.
He was born in Cleveland on Nov. 27, 1924.
Following high school, he enlisted in the Army's 101st Airborne Division and served as a paratrooper and forward observer in World War II. While fighting in the Battle of the Bulge, Mr. Oster was wounded in combat and was held as a prisoner of war from close to Christmas until Valentine's Day. He received a Purple Heart with an Oak Leaf Cluster as well as five Bronze Stars and the Distinguished Service Medal.
Following his discharge, Mr. Oster earned a bachelor of science degree in education from Ohio University, where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He earned his master's degree from Florida State University. "Mr. Dozier, who used to be the superintendent here years ago, came to Tallahassee when he was working on his master's degree and offered him a job, " Etheleen Oster said.
OPAL HUBBARD, 90

MULBERRY -- Mrs. Opal Hubbard of Mulberry died of heart failure Thursday (Sept. 5, 2002) in Mulberry. She was 90.
She was born in Labell on Jan. 19, 1912. She was a homemaker and a member of Burchwood Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Hubbard. Mrs. Hubbard is survived by her son, Roy Gestiehr, Melbourne; daughters, Carolyn Moore, New Boston, N.H., Joyce Hanna, Nichols, Betty Hester, Coolville, Ohio, E. Faye Guinn, Mulberry; sister, Jewel Loyd, Plant City; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Wells Memorial Funeral Home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at New Hope Freewill Baptist Church of Dover.
RICHARD WHEELER, 72
WINTER HAVEN -- Mr. Richard Otis Wheeler of Winter Haven died of injuries sustained in an aviation accident Thursday (Sept. 14, 2006). He was 71.
Born in Philadelphia on Nov. 20, 1934, he came to Winter Haven from Woodbridge, Va., 14 years ago. He was a pilot and flight instructor. He was a Protestant.
Mr. Wheeler is survived by his wife, Helen M. Wheeler; brother, E. Joseph Wheeler, Fort Lauderdale.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.

ANN WORRELL, 68
Hillsborough County Courts
PLANT CITY -- Mrs. Ann S. Worrell of Plant City died of lung failure Wednesday (June 7, 2006) in Plant City. She was 68.
Born in Plant City on Sept. 5, 1937, she was a lifelong resident. She was a clerk for the Hillsborough County clerk of Circuit Court. She was a Baptist.
Mrs. Worrell is survived by her sons, Ronald H. Ennis Jr., Sarasota, Jody R. Ennis Sr., Plant City; daughter, Lea Ann Joyner, Lakeland; brother, John G. Salter Jr., Lakeland; sisters, Bettye Ruis, Plant City, Linda Salter, St. Petersburg; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at Haught Funeral Home, Plant City. Services will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home chapel.
RABON WRIGHT, 85

OAKFIELD, Ga. -- Mr. Rabon Harden "Pop" Wright of Oakfield, Ga., died of congestive heart failure Saturday (Dec. 31, 2005) in Albany, Ga. He was 85.
Born Oct. 26, 1920, in Wayne County, Tenn., Mr. Wright moved to Georgia from Lakeland. He served in the Army during World War II. He owned a landscaping business in Lakeland for 33 years. He attended First Church of God, Lakeland.
Mr. Wright was preceded in death by his wife, Elvy Wright. He is survived by his sons, John D. Wright, Oakfield, and George S. Wright, Lakeland; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Mount Enon Cemetery, Plant City.

EDWIN ROBERTS, 54

DAVENPORT -- Mr. Edwin Armand Roberts of Davenport died of cancer Monday (April 28, 2003) in Auburndale. He was 54.
Born Feb. 15, 1949, in North Adams, Mass., he moved here in 1987. He was a carpenter and was employed by the Citrus Growers Association. He was a Catholic.
Mr. Roberts is survived by his son, Eric Roberts, Lewiston, Maine; daughters, Sarah Lee Ann Roberts, Haines City, Stephanie Roberts, Maine; parents, Louis Roberts Sr. and Jean E. Roberts, Davenport; sisters, Marcia Perres, Massachusetts, and Lorrie Strysco, Groveland; brothers, Allan Roberts, Bruce Roberts, Paul Roberts and Ralph Roberts, all of Massachusetts, and Louis T. Roberts Jr., Mississippi; companion, Nora Aytes, Haines City; and one grandchild.
Visitation will be from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Oak Ridge Funeral Care, Haines City. Services will be at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Argie Pugh, 69, Walt Disney World
HAINES CITY -- Mr. Argie Pugh, a retired maintenance supervisor for Walt Disney World, enjoyed a somewhat ambivalent relationship with the theme park where he worked for 20 years.
"He loved to work there, but he did not like to go visit there, " said his wife of 46 years, Louise Pugh.
Mr. Pugh died of heart failure Friday (Sept. 9, 2005) at home. He was 69.
Born in Midway, Ala., on March 6, 1936, Mr. Pugh moved to Haines City 48 years ago. He worked at the Adams Packing Co. for 15 years and then he worked as a brick mason for 20 years. Among the projects he helped build were Alta Vista Elementary School and Florida Southern College, both of which his daughter attended.
In the early 1980s, Mr. Pugh began his career at Walt Disney World, where he worked the midnight shift until he retired in 2003.
A quiet man, he enjoyed cutting the lawn and fishing with his nephew at Lake Bonnet.
Mr. Pugh was a member of St. Paul P.B. Church, where he was a deacon. He was a former member of St. Mary's P.B. Church.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Pugh is survived by his son, Argie Pugh Jr., Lakeland; daughter, Debra Harris, Brandon; brothers, Jenkins Pugh and Willie D. Pugh, both of Haines City; five grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Holmes Funeral Home, 601 Claude Holmes Sr. Ave., Haines City. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul Primitive Baptist Church, 702 Ave. C, Haines City. Burial will be in New Oakland Cemetery.
