LAKELAND -- Mrs. Kathleen J. Rogers of Lakeland died of cancer Saturday (Dec. 17, 2005) in Lakeland. She was 73.
Born in Clarksville, Tenn., on Dec. 23, 1931, she came to Lakeland from Tampa in 1956. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Carpenter's Home Church.
Mrs. Rogers was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn W. Rogers. She is survived by her sons, James Rogers, Glenn M. Rogers, Joseph K. Rogers, all of Lakeland, Terry W. Rogers, Plant City; daughters, Glinda Ann Golan, Lakeland, Donna E. Escue, Auburndale; sisters, Charleen Bray, Sue Mertz, both of Lakeland, Barbara Croen, Michigan; brother, James Bumpus, Lakeland; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grand-children; three great-great-grand-children.

PHYLLIS JACKSON, 70

WINTER HAVEN -- Mrs. Phyllis Jackson of Winter Haven died of cancer Sunday (Dec. 18, 2005) at Winter Haven Hospital. She was 70.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., on Jan. 17, 1935, she came to Winter Haven from Sommerville, N.J., in 1971. She was a licensed practical nurse. She served in the Army during the Vietnam War. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Mrs. Jackson is survived by her husband, Robert O. Jackson; son, Robert P. Jackson, Winter Haven; daughters, Kathleen Winter, Marueen Maynard, both of Tampa, Sharon Jackson, Winter Haven; sister, Beverly Powell, Ashley, Pa.; brothers, Ronnie Crossin, Plymouth, Pa., Jerome Crossin, Pringle, Pa., Phil Crossin, Wilkes Barre; one grandchild.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday with a wake service at 7:30 p.m. at Oak Ridge Funeral Care, Winter Haven. Services will be at noon Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will be in Rolling Hills Cemetery in Winter Haven.

Wilfrid Binette, 65, Sportswriter
BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Mr. Wilfrid G. Binette spent 35 years as a sportswriter and editor for several newspapers, including the News Chief in Winter Haven.
Mr. Binette, who retired as sports editor of the News Chief in 1999, died of Alzheimer's disease Saturday (July 5, 2003) at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford, Maine. He was 65.
He was born in Biddeford on March 4, 1938. His career in sportswriting began at his high school newspaper and the Biddeford-Saco Journal.
In 1961, Mr. Binette became a sportswriter in Anderson, S.C., for the Independent-Mail and became editor in 1974.
Mr. Binette transferred to the Myrtle Beach, S.C., Sun News and remained there for the next 12 years until he became sports editor for the Winter Haven News Chief.
Mr. Binette wrote an awardwinning story on Henry Aaron's 715th home run, which received The Associated Press' "Best Sports Story of the Year" recognition.
He also wrote "The Knuckler, " a biography of Phil Niekro.
Mr. Binette belonged to the Knights of Columbus and the Sertoma and Rotary International Club.
His time spent in the community went toward raising more than $100, 000 for those in need and organizing fund-raising events for the American Cancer Society.
Mr. Binette is survived by his son, Brian A. Binette, Columbia, S.C.; daughter, Tammy Lynn Fennell, Watertown, N.Y.; brothers, Paul D. Binette, Buxton, Me., and Richard L. Binette, Kennebunkport, Me.; sisters, Dolores L. Martel, Fort Myers, and Lorraine T. Labbe, Aline P. Alley and Cecile M. Greenleaf, all of Biddeford; and six grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Anne's Chapel in Biddeford.

CATHERINE BROUGH, 95

LAKELAND -- Mrs. Catherine Decamp Brough of Lakeland died of heart disease Thursday (Sept. 7, 2006) at home. She was 95.
Born in Northfield, Ill., on Oct. 5, 1910, she came to Lakeland from New York in 1948. She was a homemaker. She was past president, treasurer and a historian of the Florida Chiropractic Auxiliary, where she was second vice president of the student loan program. She was a member of the Republican Women's Club and Let's Dance Club of Lakeland. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, where she belonged to the church circle and was president of the elder Sunday school class.
Mrs. Brough was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver N. Decamp. She is survived by her husband, William A. Brough; son, Dr. O. Nelson Decamp Jr., Lakeland; stepson, Robert Brough, Atlanta; daughters, Rebecca Lynn Oberecker, Anchorage, Alaska, Beth Lynn, Rock Hill, S.C.; three grandchildren; one great grandchild.

LAKELAND -- Mrs. Geraldine Frances Jackson of Lakeland died of complications from lung cancer Thursday (Nov. 25, 2004) at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. She was 79.
Born Jan. 21, 1925, in Battle Creek, Mich., she came here from Battle Creek in 1986. She was an administrative assistant for a non-profit medical research foundation. She was a Catholic.
Mrs. Jackson was preceded in death by her husband, George Gordon Jackson Jr. She is survived by her son, George G. Jackson III, St. Louis, Mo., two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Heath Funeral Chapel, Lakeland.

LRMC - LAKELAND -- Mr. John William Beke Sr. of Lakeland died of cancer Friday (Aug. 25, 2006). He was 54.
Born Jan. 6, 1952, in Roanoke, Va., Mr. Beke moved to Lakeland from Oak Forest, Ill., in 1987. He worked for Lakeland Regional Medical Center. He was also a musician.
Mr. Beke is survived by his wife, Peggy Beke, Lakeland; son, John Beke Jr., Lakeland; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Gentry-Morrison Dukes Steen Chapel.

LAKELAND -- Mrs. Maureen Patrice Callahan of Lakeland died Sunday (Sept. 1, 2002) at home. She was 34.
Born in Fairfax, Va., on Nov. 4, 1967, she came to Lakeland from Apple Valley, Calif., seven years ago. She was a radiology technician for Brandon Community Hospital in Brandon. She was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church.
Mrs. Callahan is survived by her husband, Robert Anthony Callahan; daughter, Amanda Taylor Callahan, Lakeland; sons, Brendan Anthony Callahan, Matthew Robert Callahan, both of Lakeland; parents, William V. and Patricia Callihan, Lakeland; brothers, David Michael Callihan, Fairfax, Va., Patrick Callihan, Newark, Del., Kevin Callihan, Leesburg, Va.; paternal grandmother, Mildred Callihan, Chicora, Pa.
