WINTER HAVEN -- Mr. Byron Adams of Winter Haven died of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident Friday (Aug. 20, 2004) in Clermont. He was 47.
Born in Winter Haven on Aug. 27, 1956, he was a lifelong resident. He was the owner and operator of Zardoz Inc. of Winter Haven, a business that makes chopper motorcycles.
Mr. Adams is survived by his sisters, Lois Kluver, Melbourne, and Deborah Nielson, Springfield, Mo.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Oak Ridge Funeral Care, 2425 Havendale Blvd., Winter Haven. Services will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home chapel.
KATHLEEN TURNER, 57
Sheltered Workshop of Lakeland
AUBURNDALE -- Miss Kathleen C. "K.T." Turner of Auburndale died of heart failure Tuesday (Aug. 17, 2004) at Good Shepherd Hospice of Auburndale. She was 57.
She came to Auburndale from Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1987. She worked for the Sheltered Workshop of Lakeland and was a participant in the Special Olympics. She attended First Baptist Church of Winter Haven.
Miss Turner is survived by her mother, Jeanne Joachim, Lutz; father, Leo E. Turner, Cincinnati; brothers, Richard Turner, Lancaster, Ohio, Stephen Turner, Cincinnati, Martin Turner, Columbus, Ohio, Charles Turner, Ellicott City, Md.; sisters, Patricia Turner, College Station, Texas, Rebecca Reinecke, Land-O-Lakes.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Auburndale Memorial Park.

LAKELAND -- Mr. Randy A. Day of Lakeland died of a heart attack Friday (Aug. 20, 2004) at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. He was 48.
Born in Pennsylvania on July 6, 1956, he came to Lakeland from there 10 years ago. He was a warehouse supervisor for the city of Lakeland. He was an Air Force veteran of the Persian Gulf War.
Mr. Day is survived by his wife, Tammy Day; daughters, Michelle Olson, Fort Campbell, Ky., Mindy Day, Ashley Day, both of Lakeland; mother, Marian Gilbert, Newark, Del.; father and stepmother, Eugene and Caroline Day, Lakeland; sister, Debbie Records, Newark, Del.; brother, Bill Hartman, Lexington, Ky.; one grandson.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Gentry-Morrison Northside Funeral Home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Florida National Cemetery.

RUSKIN -- Mr. Tommy Gerald Smith of Ruskin, who has family in Polk County, died of heart failure Monday (Aug. 16, 2004) in Tampa. He was 69.
A lifelong Floridian, Mr. Smith was born in Lithia on April 5, 1935. A sales manager, he was a member of First Baptist Church of Ruskin.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Jo Ellen Smith; daughters, Debra Arnett, Linda Chance, Tammy Buck, Vicki Lee; brothers, G. Wendell Smith, Jiles Smith; sister, Primrose Harrison; seven grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Sun City Center Funeral Home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, 820 College Ave. W., Ruskin.
JULIANNA MONESTIME, 42

LAKE WALES -- Mrs. Julianna Monestime of Lake Wales died of a brain hemorrhage Sunday (Aug. 11, 2004) at Orlando Regional Medical Center. She was 42.
Born in Port De Paix, Haiti, on Oct. 11, 1961, Mrs. Monestime came to Lake Wales from Miami in 1996. She was a housekeeper for Holiday Inn Express Motel in Orlando and a member of Caribbean Mission Baptist Church of Lake Wales.
Mrs. Monestime is survived by her husband, Dukens Luma; sons, Guilett Monestime, and Duvschy Luma, both of Lake Wales, Madoshe Monestime, Haiti; daughters, Sondia Pierre-Paul and Nathaniel Luma, both of Lake Wales, Enla Monestime and Manousheka Monestime, both of Haiti; sister, Menitane Monestime, Miami; brothers, Villa Monestime, Kestt Monestime, Neclain Monestime, Ti Jean Monestime and William Mark Monestime, all of Miami.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 this evening at Epps Mortuary, Lake Wales. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Faith Temple Holiness Church. Burial will be in Lake Wales Cemetery.
DIANE JONES, 59

ATLANTA -- Mrs. Diane Perry Jones, who grew up in Lake Wales, died of cancer Thursday (July 22, 2004) in Atlanta. She was 59.
She was born in Weslaco, Texas, and moved to Lake Wales when was 14. She graduated from Lake Wales High School in 1963 and was valedictorian. She graduated from Florida State University. She was a real estate agent for Taylor Made Properties of Blue Ridge, Georgia.
Mrs. Jones is survived by her husband of 33 years, Taylor W. Jones, Atlanta; daughter, All ison M. Jones, Blairsville, Ga., ; mother, Virginia Perry, Hiawassee, Ga.; sister, Michelle S. Perry, Atlanta; and brother, Jon A. Perry II, Albany, Ga.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at H.M. Patterson & Son Spring Hill Chapel. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Robert Lassiter, 80, Citrus Consultant
LAKE WALES -- Mr. Robert Edward Lassiter Jr., a longtime citrus executive and horticulture consultant, died of heart failure Wednesday (July 21, 2004) at Lake Wales Medical Center. He was 80.
Born in Lake Wales on May 14, 1924, he graduated from Lake Wales High School.
His father was in the citrus industry, and he developed an interest in agriculture and horticulture when he was young.
"He loved the outdoors, and he loved nature and loved to make things grow, " said his son, Robert Edward "Ed" Lassiter III. "His father planted the first citrus grove in Lake Wales, which is where downtown Lake Wales is, right next to the old hotel."
Mr. Lassiter served in the Army during World War II. After his discharge, he attended the University of Florida where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in horticulture.
Mr. Lassiter's career in the citrus industry started at Hunt Brothers. He later worked for Ridge Fertilizer Co. for more than 20 years and retired as a manager in 1986. After his retirement, he served as a citrus horticulture consultant and was very active in the community and his church.
"He was into plants, photography, and he painted. He was just a nature man, " said his daughter, Sallie Lassiter Schroeder of Atlanta.
Mr. Lassiter, who was a lifelong resident of Lake Wales, served on numerous community boards and was active in many community fund-raising projects. He served on the Community Appearance Board as chairman, and he was instrumental in the construction of the bike path around Lake Wailes in the late 1970s.
"He kind of started the idea there to get a bike path around the lake and he was real involved while it was being constructed, " Ed Lassiter said. "He lived on this lake all of his life. His real hobby was just working in the community and his family."
Mr. Lassiter was chosen "Citizen of the Year" by the Lake Wales Chamber of Commerce in 1979 and "Pioneer of the Year" in 2000.
He was a Scout leader and served on the board of directors for the Highlander Band Association. He was past president of the Lake Wales YMCA and the Lions Club. He was a member and on the board of directors of the Lake Wales Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a member of the Lake Wales Planning and Zoning Commission.
He was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Lake Wales where he served as Junior High Youth Leader, Lay Leader, chairman of administrative board of trustees and for many years as chairman of the building and grounds committee. He was a member of the Esther Schaaf Sunday school class.
In addition to his son and daughter, Mr. Lassiter is survived by his wife of 51 years, Virginia Greene Lassiter; sisters, Mary Jane Watts, Winston-Salem, N.C., Polly L. Cook, Lake Wales; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church in Lake Wales. The family will receive friends following the service. Burial will be in Lake Wales Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lake Wales Family YMCA, or First United Methodist Children's Home.
