FROSTPROOF -- Mrs. Maxine E. Clark of Frostproof died of heart failure Saturday (Aug. 21, 2004) at Florida Hospital in Sebring. She was 86.
Born in Augusta, Maine, on Oct. 30, 1917, she came to Frostproof from there 35 years ago. She was a pianist. She was a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church.
Mrs. Clark is survived by two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Marion Nelson Funeral Home of Frostproof. Burial will follow in Silver Hill Cemetery in Frostproof.
CANSUS SCHECK, 16
Winter Haven High School
WINTER HAVEN -- Miss Cansus Elaine Scheck of Winter Haven died Saturday (Feb. 15, 2003) of injuries sustained in an auto accident. She was 16.
Born in Bridgeport, Conn., on Dec. 10, 1986, she came to Winter Haven from Havelock, N.C., 13 months ago. She was a sophomore at Winter Haven High School, where she was a member of the French Club. She was a member of Girl Scout Troop No. 158 in Winter Haven.
Miss Scheck is survived by her parents, Clifford and Donna Scheck III, Havelock; brother, Joseph Scheck, Havelock; paternal grandparents, Elaine and Clifford Scheck Jr., Winter Haven; maternal grandparents, Roy and Donna Davis, North Cambria, Pa.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 this evening at Beymer Memorial United Methodist Church in Winter Haven. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Funeral services will be held at a later date at Munden Funeral Home, Morehead City, N.C.

Brenda Higgenbotham, 62, Higgenbotham Auctioneers
LAKELAND -- Mrs. Brenda L. Higgenbotham, chief financial officer of Higgenbotham Auctioneers, died of a heart attack Wednesday (June 4, 2003) at Bartow Memorial Hospital. She was 62.
"She was absolutely brilliant -- one of the most brilliant people that I ever knew, " said her husband of 45 years, Martin E. "Marty" Higgenbotham. "She was the one that ran the company. She handled all the finances, all the payroll. She made a lot of the decisions -- advertising, promotions of the sales. She oversaw the entire operation from top to bottom."
Born in Tilden, Ill., on Aug. 13, 1940, she graduated as valedictorian of her class. She and her husband started their auctioneer business in Missouri, operating it for two years before they decided to relocate to a warmer climate. After the couple came to Lakeland from Wellsville, Mo., in 1962, they started Higgenbotham Auctioneers.
"We have been to every national convention in the last 36 years. She knew auctioneers' wives from all over America and in half a dozen foreign countries, " Marty Higgenbotham said. He described his wife as a quiet person who was incredibly intelligent. "When she spoke, everybody listened. She demanded attention -- if she told you something, it was right."
Mrs. Higgenbotham, who was inducted into the National Auctioneers Hall of Fame in 2001, was said to have been only the third woman inducted.
She served as district chairwoman of the United Methodist Cuba Covenant, making three mission trips to Cuba, and she was planning her fourth.
"Cuban people have a heart and such ... faith in God. They maintain that they are going to overcome, and Brenda saw that. She did everything in her power to foster that positive attitude for them, " Marty Higgenbotham said.
Mrs. Higgenbotham also went on missions trips to Peru, San Martins Island, Puerto Rico and the Houma Indian tribe in Houma, La.
She was past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the National Auctioneers Association. She was past president of the Florida Auctioneers Auxiliary Association. She was president of the United Methodist Women. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Lakeland, where she was head of outreach and missions.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Higgenbotham is survived by her son, Scott M. Higgenbotham, Lakeland; daughter, Tammy J. Peters, Clearwater; mother, Bertha Wilson, Lakeland; sisters, Doris Welch, Eoalo, Mo., Betty Vancil, Macon, Miss., Pat Vancil, Fort Meade; brothers, Arthur Wilson Jr., Lakeland, Don Wilson, Tampa; four grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church Cuba Covenant, 72 Lake Morton Drive, Lakeland, FL 33801.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church.

BABSON PARK -- Mr. Jose "Papito" Farah of Babson Park died of heart failure Tuesday (July 27, 2004) at Lake Wales Medical Center. He was 65.
Born in Cuba, on Oct. 16, 1938, he later came to Babson Park. He was a retired chef at Al's Place. He attended the Holy Spirit Catholic Church.
Mr. Farah is survived by his wife, Rosario Farah; daughters, Candy Santacruz, Winston Salem, N.C., Ingrid Griffith, Virginia Beach, Va., Angela Farah, Valorie Farah, both of Babson Park; son, Eric Martel, Babson Park; brothers, Richard Farah, Lakeland, Roberto Farah, Miami, Eduardo Farah, Loughman; sister, Chigui Farah, Lakeland; five grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 1:30 this afternoon at Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

LAKELAND -- Mr. Michael Steven Papizan of Lakeland died Sunday (Aug. 22, 2004). Cause of death is pending medical examination. He was 45.
Born July 18, 1959, in Great Falls, Mont., he came here from Germany. He was a self-employed carpenter. He was a member of the Lakeland Area Dart Association.
Mr. Papizan is survived by his wife, Cynthia Papizan; daughter, Jennifer Papizan, Lakeland; son, Josh Papizan, Lakeland; mother and stepfather, Chris Papizan and Russell Howell, Polk City; sisters, Lissa Archer and Kim Batche, both of Treasure Island.
Services will be at a later date.

JOHN EVERS, 84
City of Gainesville
POLK CITY -- Mr. John Joseph Evers Jr. of Polk City died of heart failure Saturday (Aug. 14, 2004) at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. He was 84.
Born May 30, 1920, New Haven, Conn., he came to Polk City from Gainesville in 1984. He was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, serving in World War II. He was a power plant superintendent for the city of Gainesville. He was a Catholic.
Mr. Evers was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred Wing Evers. He is survived by his wife, Mildred L. Evers; sons, Mike Evers, Conester, S.C., Wayne Aycock and Ken Aycock, both of Lakeland; daughters, Cathy Evers, Gainesville, Linda Aycock, Lakeland; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at Gentry-Morrison Northside Chapel.
