AUBURNDALE -- Mr. Robert Vernon "Bobby" Banks of Auburndale died of carbon monoxide poisoning Sunday (Aug. 15, 2004) at home. He was 49.
Born in Auburndale on Dec. 13, 1954, he was a lifelong resident. He was a member of Eastside Baptist Church.
Mr. Banks is survived by his daughter, Jonie Lee Banks, Parrish; brothers, Billy Earl Banks, Live Oak, Richard Dale Banks, Live Oak; mother, Lena Beth Banks, Live Oak; stepdaughter, Alicia Herrera, Winter Haven.
Services and burial will be in Pelham, Ga.

Sue Paul, 92, J.C. Penney
LAKELAND -- Mrs. Sue Nix Paul was an organized, family-oriented lady who always presented herself in a prim and proper attire.
"She was one of those good people that actually wrote on the backs of pictures. She actually put on it when it was taken, where it was taken, and why it was taken, and who was in it."
"She saved everything, " said her daughter-in-law, Linda Nix of Lakeland said. "She was a sweet lady and she was a lady always."
The retired saleswoman for J.C. Penney and Avon, died of kidney failure Tuesday (Aug. 17, 2004) at Highlands Lake Center. She was 92.
Born in Bainbridge, Ga., on Sept. 5, 1911, she came to Lakeland from there in 1933. She worked for a number of years at the Golden Key Co. in downtown Dixieland. "It was kind of like green stamps but it came on milk cans. You saved all your coupons off the Golden Key evaporated milk. She worked at the redeem center, " Linda Nix said.
Mrs. Paul left the Golden Key Company in the late 1950s, and began working at J.C. Penney when it was in downtown Lakeland. She worked in the children's department for many years.
She enjoyed sewing and making deserts, and she had a green thumb.
"She could make anything grow. She could put it out in the yard and it could be a stick and dead, and she could make it grow up. She was still mowing with a push mower at the age of 85 years old, " Linda Nix said. `
Mrs. Paul was a member of New Home Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her first husband of 25 years, Lee Nix, in the late 1950s, and second husband, Lewis Paul. She is survived by her son, Edward Nix, Lakeland, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at New Home Baptist Church. Services will follow at 11 a.m. at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to New Home Baptist Church.

WINTER HAVEN -- Mrs. Mary K. Moore of Winter Haven died of complications following a stroke Monday (Aug. 16, 2004) at Winter Haven Hospital. She was 87.
Born in Washington, D.C., on Aug. 29, 1916. the homemaker was a 50-year member of the Eastern Star, former member of Lake Wales Woman's Club and a former member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd.
Mrs. Moore was preceded in death by her husband, Harold F. Moore. She is survived by her daughters, Nancy Jordon, Boca Raton, Linda Cox, Lake Wales; sons, Alan H. Moore, Waldorf, Md., Michael C. Moore, Mechanicsville, Md.; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
Memorials may be made to the Florida Sheriff's Boys Ranch.

WINTER HAVEN -- Mr. Sidney Lopez of Winter Haven died of heart failure July 30, 2004, at home. He was 79.
He was born in Baton Rouge, La., on March 2, 1925. He was a retired Air Force veteran, having served in World War II and the Korean War. He was a Baptist.
Mr. Lopez is survived by his cousin, Paul Kelly, Baton Rouge.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell.

WINTER HAVEN -- Ms. Beckie Jill Lamb of Winter Haven died of cancer Monday (Aug. 16, 2004) at home. She was 58.
Born in Logansport, Ind., on April 8, 1946, Ms. Lamb came to Winter Haven from Kissimmee in 1994. She was a laundry attendant for A&D; Cleaning. She also worked in food service. She was a Baptist.
Ms. Lamb is survived by her sons, Peter J. Daugharty II, Dove; daughters, Rita Shubert Hackworth, Jamie Marie Lamb, both of Winter Haven; seven grandchildren.

LAKELAND -- Mr. Charles Lee Higgins of Lakeland died of heart disease Tuesday (Aug. 17, 2004) at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. He was 79.
Born in Tell, Texas, on Oct. 22, 1924, Mr. Higgins came to Lakeland from El Paso, Texas, in 1991. He was a self-employed truck driver and also drove a delivery truck for The Ledger.
Mr. Higgins is survived by his wife, Evelyn Higgins; sons, Alfred Higgins, St. Louis, Charles "Chuck" Higgins, Albuquerque, N.M., Carlton Higgins, McAllester, Okla., Tracy Higgins, Allen Higgns, both of Lakeland; daughters, Donna Dennis, Mancy Ball, both of Lakeland; nine grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren.

LAKELAND -- Ms. Gladys Diaz of Lakeland died of a stroke Friday (Aug. 20, 2004) at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. She was 74.
Born Sept. 25, 1929, in Guantanamo, Cuba, she came here from New Port Richey in 2003. She was a homemaker.
Ms. Diaz is survived by her daughter, Gladys Medina, Lakeland; sister, Alica, Cuba; brother, Manola, Cuba; sister, Elva Rodruques, New Jersey; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 11:45 at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness, Lakeland.
