ALTAMONTE SPRINGS -- Mrs. Ruth Lee James of Altamonte Springs, formerly of Polk County, died of a heart attack Friday (Aug. 20, 2004) at Florida Hospital in Orlando. She was 81.
Born in Gainesville on Sept. 22, 1922, she lived in Polk County before moving to Altamonte Springs. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. James was preceded in death by her husband, Freddie James Sr. She is survived by her sons, Freddie James Jr., Miami, the Rev. Nathaniel James, Altamonte Springs; sister, Rosa Edwards, Titusville; brother, Nathaniel Graham, New Smyrna; 12 grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 this evening at Marvin C. Zanders Funeral Home Inc. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Luke Independent Free Methodist Church, 9527 County Road 44, Orange Bend. Burial will follow in Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Gordonville.
ROBERT COOPER, 64

TAMPA -- Mr. Robert "Bob" Cooper of Tampa, formerly of Winter Haven, died of injuries sustained in an auto accident Aug. 16, 2004. He was 64.
Born in Palm Harbor, he lived in Winter Haven before moving to Tampa. He worked in domestic and international sales before he formed Select Realty of Central Florida to broker investment, commercial, agriculture properties and businesses throughout the state. He was also a part-time instructor for Bert Rodgers School teaching law and principles of real estate investing. He graduated from the University of Florida with a bachelor of science degree in agriculture, and he completed one year of law school. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.
Mr. Cooper is survived by his wife, Linda; daughters, Angela Hager, Sarasota, Kimberly Cooper; stepson, Matthew White, Houston, Texas; sister, Patricia Crisman, Bartow; brother, Buck Cooper; six grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.

BABSON PARK -- Mrs. Lorie K. Swank of Babson Park died of complications from Alzheimer's disease Tuesday (Aug. 24, 2004) at home. She was 90.
Born in Washington Court House, Ohio, on Aug. 13, 1914, she came to Babson Park from Lake Wales last year. She was a retired inspector for General Motors. She was a Methodist.
Mrs. Swank was preceded in death by her husband, Ora "Hank" Swank. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Heckman, Babson Park; sons, Jerry Swank, Lake Wales, Larry Swank, New Lebanon, Ohio; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at Ott-Laughlin Funeral Home, 2198 K-Ville Ave., Auburndale. Services will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home chapel.

WINTER HAVEN -- Mrs. Isabell R. Collins of Winter Haven died of heart failure Wednesday (Aug. 25, 2004) at Life Care of Winter Haven. She was 81.
Born on Feb. 13, 1923, she came to Winter Haven from Naples, N.Y., 20 years ago. She was a dairy bar manager.
Mrs. Collins was preceded in death by her husband, Freeman R. Collins. She is survived by her sons, Robert F. Collins, Kissimmee, L. Wayne Collins, Ridgefield, Conn.; daughter, Shirley A. Hall, Sun Lakes, Ariz.; brother, Arthur Russell, Spencerport, N.Y.; sister, Violet Nundy, Churchville, N.Y.; 13 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren.

PLANT CITY -- Ms. Gwendolyn Sue Spang of Plant City died of heart failure Monday (Aug. 23, 2004) in Plant City. She was 55.
Born in Canton, Ohio, on Nov. 29, 1948, she came to Plant City many years ago. She was a manager of Kentucky Fried Chicken on South Florida Avenue in Lakeland. She was a member of Berea Baptist Church in Plant City.
Ms. Spang is survived by her daughters, Suzanne Yates, Juanita Parrett, both of Plant City, Angela Verhyen, Ohio; sister, Betty Kerns, Lakeland; five grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Berea Baptist Church, 4305 Jim Redman Parkway, Plant City.

LAKE WALES -- Mrs. Ida Louise Ferrell of Lake Wales died of cancer Saturday (Aug. 21, 2004) at Lake Wales Extended Care. She was 99.
Born in Marion County on Jan. 4, 1905, she came to Lake Wales from there more than 80 years ago. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Allen Temple A.M.E. Church in Lake Wales.
Mrs. Ferrell was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Ferrell. She is survived by her nieces, Mattie Hill, Bridgeport, Conn., Jean Davis, Landover, Md.; caregiver, Pamela Humphry, Lake Wales.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Allen Temple A.M.E. Church, Lake Wales. Services will follow at 11 a.m. at the church.

LAKELAND -- Mrs. Maria E. Markowitz of Lakeland died of leukemia Tuesday (Aug. 24, 2004) at home. She was 61.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Nov. 9, 1942, she came to Lakeland from St. Cloud more than two years ago. She was a teacher for the American Cancer Society in non-smoking. She was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church.
Mrs. Markowitz was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Markowitz. She is survived by her daughters, Loretta Roig, Ruthann Crowell, both of Lakeland; son, James Roig, Port Richey; stepsons, Edward Markowitz, Statton Island, N.Y., Matthew Markowitz, Warwick, N.Y.; eight grandchildren.

LOUGHMAN -- Mr. Virgil Hargrove of Loughman died of cancer Wednesday (Aug. 25, 2004) in Loughman. He was 60.
Born in Ardmore, Tenn., on July 27, 1944, he came to Loughman from Athens, Ala., in 1987. He was an air conditioning and heating technician for Embassy Suites in Lake Beuna Vista for six years.
Mr. Hargrove was preceded in death by his first wife, Lee Dodd Hargrove. He is survived by his wife, Maggie Merle Taylor Hargrove, Loughman; daughter, Susan L. Moore, Clermont; stepsons, Vernon Blakenship, Illinois, Gerald King, Mike King, Cliff King, Richard King, Bobby King, all of Florida; stepdaughters, Linda Strickland, Judy Shumard, both of Florida; 16 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at Limestone Chapel, 322 Highway 31 N., Athens, Ala. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Sardis Springs Cemtery, Athens.
