LAKELAND -- Mr. Clayton DeWitz of Lakeland died of injuries sustained in an all-terrain vehicle accident Sunday (Nov. 28, 2004) in Lakeland. He was 20.
Born in North Dakota, on Aug. 31, 1984, he came to Lakeland from there in 1988. He was a student. He was a member of Highland Park Nazarene Church.
Mr. DeWitz is survived by his parents, Tim and Beth DeWitz, Lakeland; sister, Patricia DeWitz, Lakeland; maternal grandmother, Patricia E. Runions, Winter Haven; maternal grandfather, Richard Shampine, Kissimmee.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Gentry-Morrison Southside Funeral Home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Highland Park Church of the Nazarene.

CHARLES WOOTEN, Infant
HAINES CITY -- Master Charles K. Wooten Jr., the son of Charles K. Wooten Sr. and Carol Fleurimay of Haines City, died Friday (Nov. 26, 2004) at Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center. He was an infant.
He was born in Davenport on Nov. 26, 2004.
In addition to his parents, Master Wooten is survived by his brothers, Byron Wooten, Chicago, Michael Hall, Justin Wooten, Dale Barber Fleurimay, all of Haines City; sisters, Patrice Wooten, Boston, Sharonda Garvin, Winter Haven, Shamirrah Denmark, Haines City.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 this evening at Charles A. Lewis Funeral Home, Winter Haven. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Church of God the Bible Way, Auburndale.
Sampson Cribb, 83, S.W. Cribb Hauling
LAKE WALES -- Through his business, S.W. Cribb Hauling, Mr. Sampson Whitford "S.W." Cribb was instrumental in the building of the Lake Wales community.
"He actually helped build the town. He hauled rock and shells to build the roads, dirt for the ball field, rock and waste concrete to fill roads, he cleared land and helped build a lot of the subdivisions around town and house foundations, " said his daughter, Pat Johns of Lake Wales. "He ran for city commissioner at one time. He was active in city politics back in his younger days."
The retired business owner and community activist died of heart failure Wednesday (Dec. 1, 2004) at home. He was 83.
He was born in Waycross, Ga., on April 27, 1921. He served in the Army as a military police officer during World War II.
While visiting his sister in Polk County, he met his future wife and relocated to Lake Wales from Fort Pierce in 1946.
Mr. Cribb operated his business, which originally began as a moving company, for 40 years. His work for the city extended beyond what he did through his business. "He had a tractor with a mower and he mowed fields and lots. He did a lot of work for the city, " Johns said.
In his younger years, Mr. Cribb was an avid fisherman and enjoyed car racing. "He loved going to the stock car races at Auburndale Speedway. He went to Tampa, Daytona, Talladega, Ala.
"He loved fishing. He always had a boat and fished at all the local lakes and the Kissimmee river, " Johns said.
Mr. Cribb was a past master and active member of Lake Wales Masonic Lodge No. 242. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He was a Protestant.
In addition to his daughter, Pat Johns, Mr. Cribb is survived by his wife of 58 years, Delphine C. Cribb; daughters, Mary Van Note, both of Lake Wales; two grandsons; two step-grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales.
DONALD VIOLETT, 72

AUBURNDALE -- Mr. Donald Ray Violett of Auburndale died of cancer Wednesday (Dec. 1, 2004) at Good Shepherd Hospice in Auburndale. He was 72.
Born in Russellville, Ky., on March 17, 1932, he came to Auburndale from Lakeland in 1972. He was an iron worker in the construction industry with the Ironworkers Local No. 397. He also owned Violett's U-Pull-It in Auburndale. He was a Jehovah's Witness.
Mr. Violett is survived by his wife, Yvonna Violett; son, Dale Violett, Auburndale; sisters, Shirley Carter, Albany, Ga., Virginia Berendt, Pontiac, Mich., Willie Jewell Snyder, Bowling Green, Ky.; one granddaughter.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness at Gary Road in Lakeland.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice.

LAKE WALES -- Mr. Elmer W. Jacobs of Lake Wales died of heart failure Sunday (Nov. 28, 2004) at home. He was 85.
Born in Eden, Vt., on Dec. 31, 1918, he came to Lake Wales from Ware, Mass., 23 years ago. He retired in maintenance for the state government.
Mr. Jacobs is survived by his wife, Awuginia Jacobs, and son, David Jacobs, Lake Wales.

LAKELAND -- Ms. Alice Faye Reeves of Lakeland died of complications of Alzheimer's disease Tuesday (Dec. 7, 2004) at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. She was 63.
Born in Georgia, on July 21, 1941, she came to Lakeland from there Tifton, Ga., in 1950. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Eastside Nazarene Church.
Ms. Reeves is survived by her sons, Stuart Reeves, Indian Shores, David Reeves, Lakeland, James Reeves, Asheville, N.C.; brother, Gerald Calhoun, Mulberry; sister, Gwen Dorman, Lakeland; one grandchild.
Memorial services will be at 10 this morning at Eastside Church of the Nazarene.

LAKELAND -- Mrs. Joan T. Moran of Lakeland died of cancer Monday (Dec. 6, 2004) in Lakeland. She was 75.
Born in Chicago on Feb. 23, 1929, she came to Lakeland from Miami 25 years ago. She was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Lakeland.
Mrs. Moran is survived by her daughters, Susan Cohen, Palm Harbor, Jean Haines, Kennett Square, Pa., Mary Mangus, Lakeland; son, John Moran, Seffner; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 at the church in the parish hall.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
