LAKELAND -- Mr. Robert Bruce Rhodes, a retired railroad car inspector for the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad, died of heart failure Monday (Dec. 6, 2004) at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. He was 82.
"He was very friendly. Everybody loved him, " said his daughter, Janet McHargue of Mount Airy, Md. "Everybody that he came into contact with thought he was outgoing, but he was quiet on the whole."
Born in Atlanta on Dec. 1, 1922, he grew up in Lakeland, attending Griffin Elementary School and Lakeland High School. Mr. Rhodes served in the Army Air Corps for five years and was a veteran of World War II.
Shortly after his discharge, he began his 40-year career with the railroad and retired from Seaboard Coast Line in the mid-1980s as a railroad car inspector.
"He enjoyed fishing and gardening, outside work and yard work, " McHargue said.
Mr. Rhodes was a 32nd-degree Mason with the Kathleen Masonic Lodge. He was a member of Kathleen Methodist Church.
In addition to his daughter, Janet McHargue, Mr. Rhodes is survived by his wife of 58 years, Alice Rhodes; son, Larry Bruce Rhodes, Lakeland; daughter, Ann Christ, Safety Harbor; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Graveside services will be at 3 this afternoon at Oak Hill Burial Park.

WINTER HAVEN -- Mr. Frank B. Putney of Winter Haven died of heart failure Friday (Dec. 3, 2004) at Life Care Center of Winter Haven. He was 82.
Born Nov. 4, 1922, in Glen Cove, Long Island, N.Y., Mr. Putney came here from Babylon, Long Island, N.Y., in 1988. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines, serving in World War II. He was an electrician for Long Island Lighting Co. He was a member of American Legion Post 8, Winter Haven, and Masonic Lodge 0977, Amityville, N.Y.
Mr. Putney is survived by his wife, Patricia Putney; sons, Robert A. Putney, Holtsville, Long Island, N.Y., Bruce M. Putney, Minerva, Ohio, Christopher J. Putney, Lindenhurst, Long Island, N.Y.; daughter, Barbara J. Gallagher, Babylon; two grandchildren.

LAKELAND -- Mr. Henry Grady Pilcher Jr. of Lakeland died of a stroke Monday (Dec. 6, 2004) at Good Shepherd Hospice, Forsythe Care Center. He was 84.
Born May 10, 1920, in Ellaville, Ga., Mr. Pilcher came here from Valdosta, Ga., 55 years ago. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a field technician for 3M Co.. He was a member of American Legion Post 4, Lakeland, and Gem and Mineral Club, Fossil Society. He was state president of Peninsular Archaeological Society. He was the founder of Safety Harbor Museum of History. He was a Methodist.
Mr. Pilcher is survived by his wife, Mary Pilcher; sons, Henry Pilcher and Wayne Pilcher, both of Georgia; sisters, Gloria Fields and Kathryn Morton, both of Georgia, and many grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Seigler Funeral Home, Mulberry. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Glen Abbey Memorial Gardens, Auburndale.

AUBURNDALE -- Mrs. Iris L. McNeil of Auburndale died of pulmonary fibrosis Wednesday (Nov. 24, 2004). She was 64.
Mrs. McNeil was the owner of Ripley's Sunrise Cove Campground, Auburndale. She was a soloist in local churches.
Mrs. McNeil was preceded in death by her husband, Charles McNeil. She is survived by her daughters, Dana Glasscock, Auburndale, and Lisa McNeil, Marietta, Ga.; brother, Dallas Warden, North Carolina; sisters, Gloria Warden and Rosa Lee Kent, both of North Carolina; two grandchildren.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Kersey Funeral Home, Auburndale.

LAKELAND -- Mr. Kevin Paul Kienzle of Lakeland died of brain disease Saturday (Dec. 4, 2004) at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. He was 46.
Born Dec. 31, 1957, in Cleveland, Mr. Kienzle came here from Englewood a year ago. He was a cook. He was a member of Moose Lodge, Englewood. He was Lutheran.
Mr. Kienzle is survived by his mother, Doris Fierle, Lakeland; stepsons, Andrew and Jacob, both of Englewood; sister, Karen Cale, Lakeland.

WINTER HAVEN -- Mr. Curtis Wilson Stumpff of Winter Haven died Tuesday (Dec. 7, 2004) in Venus. The cause of death is pending autopsy results. He was 34.
Born in Fort Lauderdale on Oct. 17, 1970, he recently came to Winter Haven from there. He worked in asbestos removal. He was a Protestant.
Mr. Stumpff is survived by his fiancee, Raquel Font, Margate; father, John Kirby Stumpff, Fort Lauderdale; mother, Hallie Jean Stumpff, Tallahassee; son, Shane Ellis, West Virginia; sister, Aime Angarita, Tallahassee; brothers, Joseph Canup, Chicago, Eric Stumpff, Fort Lauderdale.

DAVENPORT -- Mr. Glen S. Slutz of Davenport died of heart failure Wednesday (Dec. 8, 2004) at Florida Hospital South, Orlando. He was 87.
Born in Starr County, Ohio, on April 4, 1917, he came to Davenport from Massillon, Ohio, eight years ago. He was a diesel truck mechanic for Slutz Trucking. He was an Army Air Corps veteran.
Mr. Slutz is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Slutz; daughter, Holly Mowls, Lake Hamilton, sisters, Opal Gill, Loretta McCreery, both of Magnolia, Ohio; two grandchildren.
