LAKELAND -- Mr. Santiago Arriaga Jr. of Lakeland died of injuries sustained in a work-related accident Monday (April 18, 2005). He was 24.
Born in Mexico, on April 12, 1981, he came to Lakeland from Cortazar, Guanjuto, Mexico, in 1997. He was a rod buster in the construction industry. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
Mr. Arriaga is survived by his wife, Mariela Arriaga; son, Santiago Arriaga III, Lakeland; father, Santiago Arriaga Sr., Cortazar; mother, Rosa Arriaga, Cortazar; brothers, Juan Pablo Arriaga, Juan Carlos Arriaga, Oscar Arriaga, all of Cortazar; sisters, Rosa Arriaga, Lidia Arriaga, Maria Arriaga, all of Cortazar; grandfathers, Isauro Arriaga, Benjamin Gonzalez, both of Cortazar; grandmothers, Maria Guadalupe Vazquez, Josephina Mendoza, both of Cortazar.

DAVENPORT -- Mr. Stanford E. Peters of Davenport died of lung failure Tuesday (April 19, 2005) in Davenport. He was 64.
Born in Whitman, Mass., on Dec. 3, 1940, he came to Davenport from there in 1952. He worked at the Polk Correctional Institution in Polk City. He was an Army veteran. He was a Baptist.
Mr. Peters is survived by his wife, Johnnie Peters; sons, Danny Peters, Lake Alfred, Robert Peters, Davenport; daughter, Tammy Tison, Lakeland; brother, James Everett Peters, Ruskin; sister, Geraldine Urbanik, Salem, Conn.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Oak Ridge Funeral Care, 1001 Grace Ave., Haines City. Services will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Haines City.

Guy Rubush, 88, Citrus Grower
DAVENPORT -- One of the oldest residents of Lake Hamilton was also one of the most active in the community.
Mr. Guy W. Rubush of Lake Hamilton died of heart failure Monday (April 18, 2005) in Davenport. He was 88.
Born Sept. 13, 1916, in Indianapolis, Ind., he moved to Lake Hamilton in 1921. He graduated from Winter Haven High School.
During World War II he served in the Army Air Corps for five years as a mechanic. When he returned to Polk County, he worked first as a mechanic for International Harvester at Tate Phillips in Winter Haven and then as a salesman. He worked for Moor International for 36 years.
Mr. Rubush was a citrus grower and member of Haines City Citrus Growers, Dundee Citrus Growers and Florida's Natural Co-op.
"He owned and took pride in his trees, " said his daughter, Cindy Hall. "He climbed up into the trees even in his 80s.
"Florida's Natural actually shot two commercials in his groves."
Mr. Rubush served as mayor and council member in Lake Hamilton for 14 years. He was a lifetime member of the Lake Hamilton Fire Department and a Fire Department trustee.
He was a member of Lake Hamilton Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Rubush is survived by his wife, Mary Rubush; daughters, Charlotte Garcia and Cindy Hall, both of Lake Hamilton; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Oak Ridge Funeral Care Chapel in Haines City.
LEWIS DAVIS, 78

FORT MEADE -- Mr. Lewis W. Davis of Fort Meade died of congestive heart failure Friday (April 15, 2005). He was 78.
He was born March 4, 1927, in Kissimmee. He was a self-employed roofer. He was a Baptist.
Mr. Davis is survived by his son, Lewis W. "Butch" Davis Jr., Cander, N.C.; daughters, Sherie Nemes, Wanda Faye Denson and Cindi Arnold, all of Lakeland, Donna Gail Hofbauer, Kissimmee; sister, Geneva Davis, Waynesville, N.C.; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be this evening from 6 to 8 at Moody-Brant Funeral Chapel.
