LAKELAND -- Mrs. Truella Haseman dedicated much of her life toward doing for others through her church, family, career as a teacher and 30 years of volunteer work for the Lakeland Regional Medical Center Auxiliary.
The retired first-grade school teacher for the Polk County School Board died of congestive heart failure Sunday (April 17, 2005) at home. She was 92.
"She didn't like the limelight, " said her son, George Haseman of Tampa. "It was always about doing for other people -- her whole life was that way."
Born in Green Ridge, Mo., on Aug. 19, 1912, she began her 25-year career as a first-grade teacher while living in Missouri. After coming to Lakeland from Florence, Ala., in 1956, she taught at Combee Road Elementary School for many years. Following her retirement, she began volunteering at the hospital where she primarily delivered flowers to patients' rooms until she was well into her late 80s.
Mrs. Haseman enjoyed knitting. "She knitted maybe as many as 100 socks and baby caps and then at Christmas she would give them to her church or Talbot house. She was a real maternal person, " George Haseman said.
She was a longtime active member of First Presbyterian Church of Lakeland.
Mrs. Haseman was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Joseph Haseman, in 1996. In addition to her son, George Haseman, she is survived by her sons, Joseph Haseman, Raleigh, N.C., Michael Haseman, Sacramento, Calif.; sister, Lois Toettcher, Lakeland; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church in Lakeland.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church organ fund, 175 Lake Hollingsworth Drive, Lakeland.

MARGARET SNYDER, 88

LAKELAND -- Mrs. Margaret C. Snyder of Lakeland died of congestive heart failure Tuesday (April 19, 2005) at home. She was 88.
Born in Hoboken, N.J., on March 24, 1917, she came to Lakeland in 1980. She was an office administrator for her husband's medical practice. She was an officer and member of the Pascack Valley Singers Choir in New Jersey.
Mrs. Snyder was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. George P. Snyder. She is survived by her sons, Paul, Sellersville, Pa., Gordon, Kansas City, Kan., Philip, Houston; daughter, Rosemary Bridges, Lakeland; brothers, Edward, Larry, Joseph, Robert, and Roger Ennis; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter.
Services will be Friday at Volk-Leber Funeral Home, Kinderkamack Road, Oradell, N.J. Burial will be Saturday at Mary Rest Cemetery in Darlington, N.J.

LAKE WALES -- Mrs. Doris Deloris Norris of Lake Wales died of cancer Saturday (April 16, 2005) at Lake Wales Medical Center. She was 42.
She was born in Lake Wales on Nov. 8, 1962. She was a day care provider.
Mrs. Norris is survived by her daughter, Ariel Taylor, Lake Wales; son, Benjamin Taylor, Lake Wales; parents, Odis Wilson and Letrell Wilson, Lake Wales; brother, Odis Wilson Jr., Lake Wales; sister, Alicia O'Neal, Lake Wales; one grandchild.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at First Institutional Baptist Church, 205 D. St., Lake Wales. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.

LOVEBURN TAYLOR, 80

AUBURNDALE -- Mr. Loveburn Balfour Taylor of Auburndale died of complications following a stroke Friday (April 15, 2005) at Winter Haven Hospital. He was 80.
Born in Toll Gate, Jamaica, on Feb. 14, 1925, he came to Auburndale from there 34 years ago. He was an agricultural laborer and a minister of the gospel. He was of the Holiness faith.
Mr. Taylor is survived by his wife, Ruby Taylor; sons, Emanuel Taylor, Fort Lauderdale, Raffington Taylor Sr., Montego Bay, Jamaica, Louise Taylor, Auburndale; daughters, Doreen Taylor-Brown, Lake Wales, Marlene Taylor, Fort Lauderdale, Angolette Taylor, Auburndale; brother, Cecil Taylor, Toll Gate; sisters, Joyce Christie, Sybil Williams, and Evlyn Kerr, all of Toll Gate, Daphne Caruthers, Manchester, Jamaica; seven grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Friday at Charles A. Lewis Funeral Home, 1700 Second St. N.W., Winter Haven. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Church of God and True Holiness, 900 Ave. O N.E., Winter Haven.

LAKELAND -- Mrs. June Harmon Sloan of Lakeland died of complications of heart failure Tuesday (April 19, 2005) at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. She was 94.
Born June 28, 1910, in Boonville, Ind., she came here from Boonville 87 years ago. She was a homemaker. She attended Lakeland High School. She was a member of First Baptist Church at the Mall.
Mrs. Sloan was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Yulee Sloan. She is survived by her daughters, Nancy Seibert, Atlanta, Billie Lynn Haskins, Lakeland, and Gail McCranie, Vero Beach; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 this evening at Heath Funeral Chapel. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church at the Mall.

RALPH KNIERIM, 86

LAKELAND -- Mr. Ralph H. Knierim of Lakeland died of multiple organ failure March 26, 2005, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. He was 86.
Born in Toledo, Ohio, on Oct. 11, 1918, he came to Lakeland from there 25 years ago. He was a retired sheet metal worker and a member of the Sheet Metal Union Local No. 33, having formerly served as president. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, serving in the Japan Theater. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross. He was a member of the American Legion for 45 years. He was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church.
Mr. Knierim was preceded in death by his first wife, Esther Knierim, and second wife, Ruth Knierim. He is survived by his daughter, Sue Kudelka, Temperance, Mich.; son, Gerald Knierim, Sylvania, Ohio; brother, James Knierim, Oregon, Ohio; stepchildren, Ron, Joanne, and Clark; four grandchildren.
