Betty Norris Long, 87, died Oct. 11, 1999.
Mrs. Long, a native of Detroit, Mich., was a graduate of Baker Business University. She began her working career in the secretarial pool of Fisher Body I in Flint, Mich. She was also employed as executive secretary to the president of General Motors Institute and in 1973 was named Secretary of The Year for the National Secretaries Association. She retired in 1977 as director of personnel at General Motors Institute, now Kettering College. She was a member of the first Presbyterian Church of Flint.
Following her retirement she moved to North Port, Fla., where she became well known for her rose gardens. She had been a resident of Cypress Glen, Greenville, N.C., since February, 1999. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward C. Long and a stepsister, Jean Schweitzer.
Survivors include her daughters, Mary Louise Barhydt Antieau and husband, Peter of Winterville, N.C., and Kayellen Button and husband, Bruce Loveys of Richmondville, N.Y.; brother, Donald F. Norris and wife, Wilma of Springhill, Fla.; stepsister, Carolyn Severin and husband, Robert of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; grandchildren, R. Scott McElroy and wife, Ruth of Norfolk, Va., R. Douglas McElroy and wife, Nancy of Three Rivers, Mich., and Kristen Bunn and husband, Scott of Grand Haven, Mich.; and four great-grandchildren.

Katherine E. Wilson, 51, went to live with the Lord Sept. 30, 2000.
She was born Oct. 7, 1948. She was a homemaker and lifelong resident of DeSoto County. She was preceded in death by her father, James P. Montgomery; and her beloved husband, Jimmie L. Wilson Sr.
Survivors include her mother, Tinsey K. Montgomery-Johnson of Arcadia; sister and brother-in-law, Beth and Larry McCorkle of Arcadia; three daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanette and Teddy Crosby of Arcadia, Cecilia and James Oliver of Arcadia, and Joanie and Tim Williams of Wauchula; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Jimmie L. Wilson Jr. of Arcadia, Willard "Joey" Wilson of Arcadia, and Richard and Chrissy Wilson of Arcadia; 11 grandchildren; a niece, Jenny Lederhouse; a nephew, Larry McCorkle; and an aunt, Margaret Mobley.

Sam G. Carrubba
Sam G. Carrubba, 87, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Sept. 30, 2000, at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte.
He was born March 23, 1913, in Scillato, Sicily, Italy, to Sam and Josephine (Guggino) Carrubba. He was a 9 1/2-year resident of Port Charlotte, coming from Ocala, Fla., in 1991. He was a technical agriculturist in Farmingdale, Long Island, N.Y. Mr. Carrubba was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Port Charlotte and the Monday Senior's Bowling League at the Port Charlotte Bowlerama Bowling Center. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Joseph, James and Thomas Carrubba; and sister, Mary Vollone.
Survivors include his loving wife of 51 years, Jean M. (Lamagna) Carrubba of Port Charlotte; two daughters, Sally Carrubba of New York City, and Michele Waguespack of Destrehan, La.; and two sisters, Frances Vara of Rochester, N.Y., and Ann Bellissimo of Halsey, Pa.
Family and friends will visit from 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 3 at the Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home in Punta Gorda, Fla. The chapel scripture service will be at noon Oct. 3 at the funeral home. Entombment will follow at the Charlotte Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Punta Gorda. Rita G. Campbell Collins
Rita G. Campbell Collins, 60, Punta Gorda, Fla., died Sept. 30, 2000, after a lengthy bout with liver cancer.
She is survived by her husband, Ted A. Collins, also of Punta Gorda; a son, Kenneth A. Collins of Punta Gorda; a daughter, Cynthia G. Silvers of Glasgow, Ky.; and three grandchildren, Ron, Rita and Robby, also of Glasgow.
Viewing was held Oct. 2 at Kays-Ponger Funeral Home in Punta Gorda. The funeral will be 4 p.m. Oct. 3 in the Port Charlotte Seventh Day Adventist Church on Loveland Boulevard. Burial will be in Jefferson, Texas. Contributions to a memorial may be made to the new organ fund at the Port Charlotte Seventh Day Adventist Church where Rita was a church organist.
William H. Corbin
William H. Corbin, 74, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away peacefully in his sleep Oct. 1, 2000.
Born July 21, 1926, in Johnstown, Pa., he moved to this area in 1982 from there. He was vice president for Penn Traffic Company and F.B.I. agent in Johnstown. Mr. Corbin was very active in the community of Johnstown. He was in the veteran of the Navy during World War II and later in the Reserves.
Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years, Carolyn; two sons, Thomas Corbin of Punta Gorda, and Douglas (wife, Laurie) Corbin of Hendersonville, Tenn.; a brother, Richard Corbin of Sanibel, Fla.; and a grandson, Tommy Corbin.
Memorial services will be held at a later date locally. Services will be held Oct. 8 in Johnstown. Memorial donations may be made to Charlotte County Council On Aging, Port Charlotte, 3456 Depew Ave., Port Charlotte, FL 33952.
Clement E. Field
Clement E. Field, 86 of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Oct. 1, 2000, at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte.
He was born Jan. 8, 1914, in Concord, N.H., and moved to Port Charlotte in 1971 from Buffalo, N.Y. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 110 in Port Charlotte. Mr. Field was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include his loving wife of 45 years, Annie B. Field of Port Charlotte; two brothers, Frederick C. Field of Port Richey, Fla., Robert F. Field of Meredith, N.H.; and many nieces and nephews.

Hobart H. Marks, 75, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Oct. 1, 2000.
Born Dec. 11, 1924, in Hebron, Pa., he moved to this area 15 years ago from Lebanon, Pa. He was a welding foreman for Aqua-Chemical Inc. in Lebanon, Pa. He was an 82nd Airborne paratrooper during World War II and was of the Lutheran faith.
Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Elinor; a daughter, Dawn West of Clearwater, Fla.; two sons, Terry Marks of Palmyra, Pa., and Jeffrey Marks of Myers Town, Pa.; a brother, Benard Marks of Zuitman, Texas; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Jake R. Mitcham, 74, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Sept. 30, 2000, at Bon Secours-St. Joseph Hospital, Port Charlotte.
Born Sept. 26, 1926, in Birmingham, Ala., Mr. Mitcham came to Port Charlotte 34 years ago from Miami, Fla. He worked as a land surveyor for a developer. Mr. Mitcham was a member of the BPO Elks Lodge No. 2153, Port Charlotte, American Federation of Musicians, Tampa, Fla., and National Rifle Association. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his loving companion, Flo Abrams, of Port Charlotte; two sons, John R. (Griselle) Mitcham of Orange City, Fla., and James Mitcham of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a brother, Benjamin Mitcham of Birmingham, Ala.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
