Beatrice E. "Beazie" Mintle, 80, of Englewood, Fla., died Sept. 24, 1998.
Mrs. Mintle was born May 15, 1918, in Carrol, Iowa, and moved to this area in 1972 from Des Moines, Iowa. She was a photography clerk at a portrait studio in Des Moines. She was a member of St. Raphael's Catholic Church.
She is survived by her sisters, Lois E. Kudrma of Center Point, Iowa, Mary Messinger and Delores Burger, both of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Evelyn Naughton of Hiawatha, Iowa, and Robe Pearson of Iowa Falls, Iowa; brothers, Donald Ament and John J. Ament, both of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Martin "Brick" Mintle, who died in 1992.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, with a Scripture service at 3 p.m. at Lemon Bay Funeral Home, Englewood Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Raphael's Catholic Church, Englewood. Burial will be in Gulf Pines Memorial Park, Englewood. Dale W. Day
Dale W. Day, 83, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Sept. 26, 1998, in Bradenton, Fla.
Mr. Day was born June 21, 1915, in Greene County, Ohio, and moved to Port Charlotte 25 years ago from Des Moines, Iowa. He was a retired vice president of underwriting for Hawkeye Security Insurance Company of Des Moines. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his son, Robert L. (Eleanor) Day of Des Moines, Iowa.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Port Charlotte Chapel of Kays-Ponger/Royal Palm Funeral Homes. Services will be at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Shirley A. Lyon
Shirley Alma Lyon, 74, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Sept. 26, 1998, at her residence.
She was born Jan. 26, 1924, in International Falls, Minn., and moved to this area in 1982 from Adelphi, Md. She was a retired registered nurse, formerly employed at Sibley Memorial Hospital and Trinity College, both in Washington, D.C. Mrs. Lyon was also a former employee of the U.S. Postal Service, Hyattsville, Md. She was a veteran of the U.S. Army Nursing Corps. She was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church of Port Charlotte and the Deep Creek Golf Club.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas W. Lyon of Port Charlotte; daughters, Cathy Dovel of Port Charlotte and Linda Anders of Olympia, Wash.; son, Bruce Lyon of Port Charlotte; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Roberson Funeral Home, Port Charlotte Chapel, with a Catholic wake service at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Port Charlotte.

Nora Wynn
Nora "Carolyn" (Wilson) Wynn, 67, of Fort Myers, Fla., died Sept. 24, 2001.
A long time resident of Nocatee, she was born in Greenville, Fla., Jan. 26, 1934. Carolyn was one of seven children of Luther H. and Sally G. Wilson and the wife of the late Harold V. Wynn.
She is survived by her seven children: Terri Hemmings of Bushnell, Hal Wynn of N. Fort Myers, Gary Wynn of Nocatee, Sheryl Malmberg and Nancy Worth, both of Jacksonville, Fla., Elinor "Denise" Barto of Valrico, Patrick Wynn of Fort Myers; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Eleanor Dinkins of Jacksonville and Delcie Johnson of Nocatee; also survive Carolyn.
The memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Sept. 29 at the First Baptist Church of Nocatee. Contributions are encouraged to one's local Hope Hospice, in her memory.
Brandon L. McNealy
Brandon L. McNealy, 19, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Sept. 23, 2001 in North Port, Fla.
He was born October 29, 1981, in Port Charlotte. He was a radiology transport assistant at Fawcett Memorial Hospital, where he was president of the Activities Committee. He was also a part-time student at Edison Community College and a member of Port Charlotte Little League. He was a graduate of Venice High School.
He is survived by his mother, Barbara Ann Gonzalez, and stepfather, Julio Gonzalez, both of North Port; maternal grandparents, Paul A. and Sally Huckestein of Port Charlotte; father, Gary McNealy of Clewiston, Fla.; two sisters, Brittany McNealy and Briana Gonzalez, both of North Port; three step-brothers, Julius Gonzalez, Eriezel Gonzalez and Yamzey Gonzalez, all of North Port; two aunts, Jo'Ann Saunders of Port Charlotte and Susan Sagel of Boca Raton, Fla.; an uncle, Paul A. Huckestein, Jr. of Port Charlotte; and five first cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Roberson Funeral Home. The Rev. Kathleen Wiggins of Wintergarden Presbyterian Church of Port Charlotte will officiate. Dorothy T. Pluguez
Dorothy T. Pluguez, 73, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2001, at Bon Secours-St Joseph Hospital in Port Charlotte.
She was born May 24, 1928, in Philadelphia, Pa., and moved to Port Charlotte in 1990 from South New Jersey. Mrs. Pluguez was a retired test driver for the Motor Vehicle Division, State of New Jersey. She was a member of St. Maximilian Koble Catholic Church in Port Charlotte and a former member of Pinehill Senior Citizens Club in Pinehill, N.J. She loved square dancing and playing bingo.
She is survived by her loving husband, Paul V. Pluguez of Port Charlotte; a daughter, Louise C. Bubser of Palm Coast, Fla.; a sister, Alice E. Johnson-Rowan of Port Charlotte; two grandsons, Kenny and Kevin, and a great-grandson, Daniel Lewis, all of New Jersey.
A visitation will be held Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Roberson Funeral Home, Port Charlotte Chapel, with a Catholic Wake Service at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church, Port Charlotte. Entombment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Port Charlotte.

William Peter Possel
William Peter Possel, 95, passed away Sept. 18, 2001.
He was born April 7, 1906, in Stade, Germany, and immigrated to America in January of 1925. He resided in various locations in Ohio from 1925 through 1930 and settled in Dayton, Ohio, until he relocated in Port Charlotte, Fla., in 1988. He was an active member of Hope Lutheran Church in Dayton for 57 years, becoming a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church after relocating to Port Charlotte. He was a member of Conservancy Lodge 661 FA&M, Scottish Rite, Antioch Shrine of Dayton, and Charlotte County Shrine Club.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, the former LaRue Stroh; one son, John William and wife, Jacqueline of Port Charlotte; granddaughter Carol Ann Popvich and husband Brett and their children, Alecia and Aric; grandson, John Peter Possel and wife Desiree and their sons, Joshua and Nathaniel of Marietta, Ga.; great-nephews, Lt. Col. William Possel and Robert Possel and their families.

Francis E. Allen
Francis E. Allen, 71, of North Port, Fla., died on Sept. 25, 2001.
He was born on March 10, 1930, in Concord, N.H. He moved to this area in 1976 from Hampton, N.H. Mr. Allen was a Chief Petty Officer for the Medical Corps of the U.S. Navy, he retired after serving 21 years, serving during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He also worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Portsmouth, N.H. Mr. Allen was a lifetime member of the DAV and a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Allen of North Port; four sons, David Allen of St. Mary's Ga., Stephen Allen of Everett Naval Station, Washington, Brian Allen of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Gregory Allen of North Port; two daughters, Linda Horton of St. Mary's, and Nancy Emard of Port Charlotte; 11 grandchildren, Francis Allen of Arlington, Va., Carrie Horton of Savannah, Ga., Sarah Fritz of Kingsland, Ga., Michael Allen, Matthew Allen, Erika Allen and Karissa McKee, all of Port Charlotte, Krystal Allen and Sheri Allen, both of Englewood, Fla., Malik Affortee and Andrew Allen, both of of Everett, Wash. Mr. Allen was predeceased by his son, Michael A. Allen in 1981.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sept. 28, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Farley Funeral Home, North Port Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Lowell Wonder Guard
Lowell Wonder Guard, 89, of Watseka, Ill., passed away Sunday, Sept. 23, 2001.
He was born Sept. 20, 1912, in Watseka to Arbie Clifford Guard and Elizabeth Canady. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army.
He was married to Vivian V. Loy Hill on July 27, 1944. He enjoyed farming and working on projects. He attended Prarieview Baptist Church in Watseka and he built two of his own homes while helping to build three different churches.
He is survived by his wife, Vivian of Watseka; a daughter, Linda Schafroth of Watseka; three sons, Lowell (Susan) Hill of Fort Myers, Fla., Richard (Linda) Guard of Maryland Heights, Mo., and Larry (Connie) Guard of Collinsville, Ill.; a brother, Joe (Delores) Guard of Watseka; a special friend, Chester Arseneau of Watseka; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one nephew; and one great-nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and three sisters.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at Segur-Knapp Funeral Home at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Guy Storm officiation. A visitation will be held Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be held at Iroquois Memorial Park in Watseka. Graveside military rites will be accorded.

James C. Watts
James C. Watts, 64, of Arcadia, Fla., passed away Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001, in Punta Gorda, Fla.
He was born June 10, 1937 in Quitman, Ga., and had lived in Arcadia and Fort Ogden, Fla., for the past 49 years, moving here from Quitman. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard and a meat cutter.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Collins Watts of Arcadia; one daughter, Carol (Billy) Taylor of Arcadia; three sons, William Watts of Port Charlotte, Fla., Michael (Richelle) Watts of Cape Coral, Fla., and Charles Watts of Fort Ogden; a brother, Carl Watts of Arcadia; two sisters, Monette Danzey of Commerce, Ga., and Patricia Marcey of Homestead, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, James Watts.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday beginning at 11 a.m. at the Ponger-Kays-Grady Chapel with Rev. Mitch Widden and Rev. Randy Wright officiating. Burial will be in the Fort Ogden Cemetery, Fort Ogden.

Brady Hermine Brady
Brady Hermine "Ann" Brady, of Port Charlotte, Fla., formerly of West Paterson, N.J., passed away Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001.
Ann was a devoted wife to Robert E. Brady and a loving mother to Robert G. Brady of Carterville, Ga., Kathleen A. Eustace of Brattleboro, Vt., and Cheryl M. (Scott) Miller of Ringwood, N.J. She was a dear sister to Charlotte M. Ecker of West Paterson and an adored grandmother to Brandon B. Eustace, Courtney L. Eustace, Scott M. Miller Jr. and Daniel J. Miller. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Ann was the founder of the West Paterson First Aid Squad Ladies Auxiliary and was retired from Chilton Memorial Hospital. She will be sorely missed.
A visitation will be held Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friends and relatives are invited to attend a funeral at the Santangelo Funeral Home in West Paterson on Thursday at 9 a.m. A Mass will follow at 10 a.m. at St. Philips R.C. Church. Internment will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

Wilma Virginia Cross
Wilma Virginia Cross, 92, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Sept. 21, 2001.
Born Sept. 17, 1909, in Reed City, Mich., she moved to Florida in 1934 from Michigan. She was a homemaker and member of the Isles Yacht Club and First Presbyterian Church in Port Charlotte.
She is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Jean Duncan of Hyde Park, Vt.; son, John Christopher Cross; and grandson, Richard W. Duncan.
A prayer service was held at Gables West at Southport on Sunday, Sept. 23, 2001. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Red Cross, 1300 D. Enterprise Drive, Port Charlotte, FL 33953.
James J. DeSaint
James J. DeSaint, 85, a 28 year resident of Port Charlotte, Fla., formerly of Cumberland, R.I., died Friday, Sept. 21, 2001, at Rhode Island Hospital.
He was the husband of Emelia Fagundes DeSaint and the late Alice LaRue DeSaint.
He was born in North Providence, R.I., and was the son of the late Barthelmeo DeSaint and the late Teresa (Frolio) DeSaint. Mr. DeSaint received his early education in the Providence school system. During World War II, he received training at Walter Reed Army Hospital as a dental technician and served in that capacity at the Army Hospital Camp in New Caledonia, South Pacific. Upon his return from the war, he was a self employed dental technician and owned Central Dental Laboratory in Providence before moving to Port Charlotte in 1973, where he reopened and operated Central Dental Laboratory until his retirement.
He and his wife enjoyed golf and were avid ballroom dancers.
Survivors include his wife, Emelia; daughter, Pamela DeSaint Murphy of Warwick, R.I.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also the father of the late Robert G. Drake and the late Penelope L. DeSaint as well as brother to the late Charles and Louis DeSaint, Philomena Maio, Rose Ricci and Nettie Dwoney.
All services will be private.
The National Cremation Service is handling arrangements.
William Joseph Powers, M.D.
William Joseph Powers, M.D., 84, of Punta Gorda, Fla., and formerly of Brockton, Mass., died at the Royal Megansett Nursing Home Sept. 23, 2001.
He was the husband of Jessie H. (Pratt) Powers.
William was born in Dorchester, Mass., the son of the late Augusta A. (Davidson) Powers and William J. Powers. In 1936, William graduated at the top of his class from Boston Latin School. He received his undergraduate degree from Boston College in 1940 and his medical degree from Tufts Medical School in 1943. He served in the Naval reserves from 1942 to 1943.
Dr. Powers interned at Boston City, Newton Wellesley and Pondville Hospitals. He practiced general surgery in Brockton from 1950 to 1985, founding Surgical Associates and was affiliated with the Brockton, Phaneuf and Cardinal Cushing Hospitals. William served as president of the staff at both hospitals. He was a member of the American College of Surgeons.
One of his lifelong passions was golf. He was a long time member of Thorney Lea Golf Club in Brockton and the Burnt Store Country Club in Florida. For 45 years, he was a resident of Megansett on Cape Cod, providing many summers of enjoyment for his family. In his retirement, he enjoyed oil painting, creating cherished works of art for his family. He also was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and collector of paper weights.
He is survived by his wife, Jessie; five sons, William J. Powers of Palmer, Mass., Richard P. Powers of Hanson, Mass, John C. Powers of Marshfield, Mass., James F. Powers of Bridgewater, Mass., and Thomas J. Powers of S. Weymouth; one daughter, Andrea L. Williams of Baltimore, Md.; one brother, Robert N. Powers of Sharon, Mass.; two nephews, David Powers of Marshfield, Mass., and Mark Powers of Foxboro, Mass; and 16 grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Seton Church in Falmouth, Mass. A burial will follow at North Falmouth Cemetery. Visiting hours will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday in the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, West Falmouth, Mass.
