Edwin B. Cook

Edwin B. "Eddie" Cook, 39, of Arcadia, Fla., died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004.

He was born, July 15, 1965, in Arcadia.

Eddie worked as a carpenter and was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his wife, Heather Cook; two daughters, Nikki Louise Lawrence and Deanna Michelle Cook; a son, Brandon Anthony Cook; mother, Clara Cook; sister, Doyla Denise Zuniga; brothers, Tony (Ruth) Cook and Ronald Paul (Alinda) Cook, Hoyle (Linda) Cook of Alaska, and Robert Dean (Debbie) Cook of Buchannon, Tenn.; and three grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004, at Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home, 50 N. Hillsboro Ave., Arcadia, with funeral services to follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Arcadia.

Arrangements are by Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home, Arcadia.

Dorothy M. Duncan

Dorothy M. Duncan, 82, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Sept. 10, 2002.

She was born Nov. 6, 1919, in Camden, N.J., and moved to this area in 1989 from Haddonfield, N.J. Mrs. Duncan was a retired executive secretary for the following companies, Boeing Aircraft in Washington state, Salem Oregon School Board and Colt Manufacturing Co. in Camden. She was a member of Atco Presbyterian Church in Atco, N.J., and Pilgrim United Church of Christ in Port Charlotte.

Survivors include her husband, Wesley; daughter, Randi Kelly of Port Charlotte; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter, Penny Duncan.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Sept. 13, at the Pilgrim United Church of Christ.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Southwest Florida, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238; or Pilgrim United Church of Christ, 24515 Rampart Blvd., Port Charlotte, FL 33980.

Carole A. Hummer

Carole Ann Hummer, 44, of Bradenton, Fla., was called home to God on Sept. 4, 2002.

She will join her beloved father, Robert, and her grandmothers and grandfathers, Ollie and Marshall Hummer and Eva and John Mayhugh. She leaves her beloved son, Aaron Yarn, 9, of Bradenton; her mother, Shirley Hummer; brother, Robert Hummer; sister-in-law, Lisa; nephews, Kyle and Ryan; niece, Alexis Hummer of Port Charlotte, Fla.; and her aunts, uncles, cousins and friends whom she loved and held precious during her time here on earth.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Sept. 13, at Kays-Ponger/Royal Palm Funeral Home, Port Charlotte Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace Bible Church, 4301 32nd St. West, Ste. E22, Bradenton, FL 34205.

Dolores Leazenby

Dolores "Dee" Leazenby, 69, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Sept. 9, 2002, in Punta Gorda.

Mrs. Leazenby was born Sept. 14, 1932, in Schererville, Ind. She had resided in this area since 1977. She was a homemaker and well-known real estate sales agent in the Charlotte County real estate community. She was the daughter of Loren Elvert Cook and Rosetta Elizabeth Burkhart Cook of Indiana.

Survivors include her husband, Eugene "Red" Martin Leazenby of Punta Gorda; a daughter, Laura Jeanne Leazenby Tsareff of Indianapolis, Ind.; three sons, Mark Martin Leazenby of Charlotte, N.C., Kurt Eugene Leazenby of Sarasota, Fla., and Brian Vincent Leazenby of Atlanta, Ga.; four grandchildren, Amy Hope, John Eugene, Michael Eugene and Adam Loren Leazenby; and two step-grandchildren, Steven Ray and Terry Michael Clayton. She was preceded in death by a son, Bruce Alan Leazenby of Port Charlotte.

Visitation will be from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 12, with services commencing at 1 p.m. at Kays-Ponger/Royal Palm Funeral Home, Punta Gorda Chapel.

Oswald M. Rognstad

Capt. Oswald "Ozzie" M. Rognstad, U.S. Merchant Marine (retired), 103, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Sept. 5, 2002, at Bon Secours-St. Joseph Hospital in Port Charlotte.

He was born April 14, 1899, in Kristiana (now Oslo), Norway. His lifespan placed him in the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries. In 1914, at age 15, he went to sea as a cabin boy with the Norwegian Merchant Marine. He came to the United States, arriving in New York City, in 1918 at the tender age of 19, where he transferred into the U.S. Merchant Marine. He served in World War I, World War II and the Korean War. During World War II, the ship under Capt. Rognstad's command participated in every area of conflict. He was awarded the American Merchant Marine Distinguished Service Medallion. After the war, he resumed his command on ore carriers on the Great Lakes until he retired in 1964. He was a life member of the American Merchant Marines Veterans; American Legion Post 103, AMVETS Post 1999, VFW Post 5690, Masonic Lodge 115 of Punta Gorda, Fla.; Shrine of Port Charlotte; Deep Creek Elks; and Sons of Norway.

Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Catherine; his sons, Ralph (Inga) of Charlotte, N.C., Albert (Jean) of Milton, Fla., Raymond (Helen) and Donald (Beverley), both of Morehead City, N.C.; stepchildren, Corrine (Carl) and Wayne (Gail); 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren and 16 step-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 12, at Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home, 5200 Indian Springs Road, Punta Gorda, Fla. Services and burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 13, 2002, at Charlotte Memorial Gardens, 5200 Indian Springs Road, Punta Gorda, Fla.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, 12502 N. Pine Drive, Tampa, FL 33612-9499.

Frank C. Alexander

Frank Clarence Alexander, 75, of Englewood, Fla., died Sept. 11, 2002, at Quality Health Care Center in North Port, Fla.

Born Sept. 16, 1926, in Providence, R.I., to Frank and Bridget (McCaffrey), he had been a resident of Englewood for nine years, coming form Providence. Mr. Alexander worked for the Providence Forestry Department for 15 years. He retired from Rhode Island Hospital in 1988 after 20 years in the dietary department. He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Parish.

Survivors include two daughters, Tammy Dion of Bradenton, Fla., and Gloria Valletta of Cranston, R.I.; two sons, Frank of Englewood and Jeffrey Alexander of Providence; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sept. 13, at Englewood Community Funeral Home, 3070 S. McCall Road. A funeral Mass will follow at 1 p.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, with the Rev. Marcel Dube officiating. Burial will follow at Venice Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Englewood Community Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Margie Turner

Margie Sisco Turner, 78, of Englewood, Fla., died Sept. 10, 2002.

She was born July 31, 1924, in Hohenwald, Tenn., to Emmett and Lillie Sisco. She served in the WACs during World War II, assigned to the Signal Corps.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas; her parents; her grandson, Alex Pazarena III; and sister, Lorraine Snavely. She is survived by two sons, T. Michael Turner of California and Ronald (Linda) Turner of Maine; daughter, Laura (Alex) Pazarena of Michigan; two sisters, Carolyn Eckart of Akron, Ohio, and Joan Smith of Englewood; and eight grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at noon Sept. 14, in Doan Chapel of Englewood Methodist Church.

William R. Flint

William Robert "Will" Flint, 81, of Lehigh Acres, Fla., died Sept. 10, 2002, at Hospice House in Cape Coral, Fla.

He was born Dec. 3, 1920, to Dave and Cora, and was a lifetime resident of Lee County. William was a member of North Fort Myers Church of God and a lifetime council member. Will was a cattleman and citrus producer and farmer. He was a World War II veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Alecia B. Flint; daughters, Helen (Skip) Weddel, Conita (Mark) Prevatt; sons, Bill Lee Flint, Velton H. "Tony" (Susie) Flint II and John W. Flint; grandchildren, Gerald (Robin) Mount, Brian (Rosie) Mount, Travis (Tycee) Prevatt, Triesta (Marty) Way, Houston Flint, Scott, Trenten, Katie Flint; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Harry (Bea) Flint, David (Peggy) Flint; sisters, Clara (Carl) Milligan, Mildred (Earl) Hodges; and many close nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Velton H. Flint.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 12, at Lee Memorial Park Funeral Home, and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sept. 13, at North Fort Myers Church of God. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Sept. 13, at North Fort Myers Church of God.

Donations may be made to Hope Hospice House.

Ida E. Ware

Ida Ethel Harriman Ware, 95, formerly of West Gardiner, Maine, and Arcadia, Fla., died Sept. 9, 2002, at Tandem Health Care in North Fort Myers, Fla.

She married Paul C. Ware on Aug. 30, 1929. Ida was born in Gardiner, Maine, on July 15, 1907, the daughter of Fred T. and Margaret Alena (Brown) Harriman. She graduated from Cony High School in 1925. She was a bookkeeper for Hussey Hardware Co. in Augusta, working for three generations of Husseys. Ida was a member of Highland Avenue United Methodist Church in Gardiner, and attended Trinity United Methodist Church in Arcadia. She was active in the Arcadia Tourist Club.

Survivors include her three daughters, Jane E. (Jack) Simpkins of Fort Myers, Fla., Joyce M. Ware of Gardiner, and Lois W. (Ancyl) Thurston of Chelsea, Maine; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Paul C. Ware; her brother, Earl True Harriman; and two grandsons, David and Stephen Willoughby.

A funeral service will take place Sept. 28 in Gardiner.

For those who desire, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 304 Oak St., Arcadia, FL; or Hope Hospice, 9470 Health Park Circle, Fort Myers, FL 33908. Arrangements are by Staples Funeral Home, Gardiner.

Carol A. Hummer

Robert L. Hutchinson Sr.

Robert L. Hutchinson Sr., 82, of Florida, formerly of Waterford, Mich., died Aug. 12, 2002.

Bob was a builder and owner of Springfield Estates and Bob Hutchinson Mobile Home, Drayton Plains, Mich. He was president of Hutchinson Home Financing and treasurer of Pontiac Coach Manufacturing. He was a member of Cedar Lodge No. 60, Clarkston, Mich.; Joseph C. Bird Eastern Star, Clarkston; lifetime ambassador of the Moslem Temple; president of the Pontiac Shrine Club 1973; member of the American Legion; and served on the board of directors of the Oakland County Easter Seals. He was a real estate agent for 40 years in Michigan and Florida. He had worked for Playbouy Pontoon Manufacturing of Alma, Mich.

He was the son of the late Rev. Allen Hutchinson and the late Melvina Burke Hutchinson; husband of Sis; preceded in death by sons Glenn and Earl, brothers Leslie, Delbert, Melvin and Paul; sisters, Dorothy (Lou) and Esther Kirklin; father of Carolann (Jim) Reed of Davisburg, Mich., Robert L. II (the late Pam) Hutchinson, Carl (Sandy) Hutchinson, both of Waterford, Mich., Donna (Bob) Knight of Fairview, Mich., Betty (Edward) Tingley of Mount Pleasant, Tenn., Roberta (Paul) Capistrant of Atlanta, Mich., and Roger (Debra) Hutchinson of Douglasville, Ga.; father-in-law of Barb Cosner; brother of Emma Mae (Russell) Lindsay of Saginaw, Mich., Ruth (Lawrence) Rank of Swartz Creek, Mich., Rosemary (Henry) Watson of Linden, Mich., and Shirley Barry of Boca Raton, Fla.; grandpa of 36, great-grandpa of 46 and great-great-grandpa of two.

Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Sept. 13, at Souls Harbour Church of God, with Pastor Prater officiating. Funeral services entrusted to the Lewis E. Wint & Son Trust, Clarkston, Mich. Interment has taken place at Ottawa Park Cemetery, Clarkston.

Memorials may be made to Souls Harbour Church, Punta Gorda, or Oakland Easter Seals.

Marcel H. Hansen

Marcel H. Hansen, 88, of Englewood, Fla., died Sept. 9, 2002.

He was born Aug. 22, 1914, in Milwaukee, Wis., and came to this area in 1985 from Colma, Wis. He was in management with Allen Bradley Electronics Manufacturing.

Marcel is survived by his son, Robert (Lori) of Oconomowac, Wis.; two daughters, Sandra (Richard) Baumann of Englewood and Carol Meagher of Salem, Ore.; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial services and burial will be private. Lemon Bay Funeral Homes, Englewood Chapel, is in charge of cremation arrangements.

Walter E. Grant

Walter E. Grant, 75, of North Port, Fla., died Sept. 8, 2002, at his residence.

He was born Jan. 31, 1927, in Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies, and moved to

North Port 14 years ago from East Orange, N.J. He was a police officer in

Jamaica and a retired dietary technician in New Jersey. He was a member of United Evangelical & Missionary Outreach Church of Port Charlotte.

He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Isoline A. Grant of North Port; five daughters, Delores Davis of East Orange, Marjorie Grant of Elizabeth, N.J.,

Elaine Alvaranga of Madison, Wis., Beverly Walker of Port Charlotte, Fla., and

Ivorine Johnson of Bronx, N.Y.; two sons, Kenneth Grant of North Port and Winston Grant of Irvington, N.J.; a sister, Amy Williams of Nassau, Bahamas; two brothers, Oscar Grant of Orange, N.J., and Noel Grant of Oyster Bay, Long Island, N.Y.; 23 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 13, Roberson Funeral Home, Port Charlotte Chapel. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Sept. 14, at United Evangelical & Missionary Church of Port Charlotte, with the Rev. Arthnel L. Hastings officiating. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Port Charlotte.

Memorial contributions may be made to United Evangelical & Missionary Outreach Church, 4200 Juniper St., Port Charlotte, FL 33948. Arrangements by Roberson Funeral Home, Port Charlotte Chapel.

Mandy Davis

Mandy Fussell Davis, 97, of Palmetto, Fla., formerly of Arcadia, Fla., died Sept. 9, 2002.

She was born Oct. 22, 1904, in Broxton, Ga., and moved to Palmetto in 1993 from Arcadia. Mrs. Davis was a homemaker and of the Protestant faith.

She is survived by 10 nieces, 14 nephews and a sister-in-law.

Graveside funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Sept. 13, at Mount Enon Cemetery, Plant City, Fla. Interment will follow in Mount Enon Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the cemetery. Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home, Arcadia, will be in charge of arrangements.

Elizabeth C. Phelps

Elizabeth C. "Tommie" Phelps, 87, of Arcadia, Fla., died Sept. 6, 2002, in Arcadia.

Mrs. Phelps was born July 1, 1915, in Clayton County, Ky., and moved to Arcadia 10 years ago from Indianapolis, Ind. She was a member of Mount Ephraim Baptist Church and a homemaker.

Mrs. Phelps is survived by her son, David P. (Sharon) Phelps of Indianapolis; five sisters, Anna Bea West of Moorehaven, Fla., Gay Clarke of Richmond, Va., Lucille Brown of Clarksville, Ind., Estelle Utz of New Albany, Ind., and Joyce Lengyel of Buchannon Dam, Texas.

Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sept. 12, at Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home, Arcadia. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sept. 12 at the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Lakeview Memorial Gardens, Avon Park, Fla.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 21475 St. Petersburg, FL 33742. Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home, Arcadia, is in charge of arrangements.
