Leonie E. Gilson, 86, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Aug. 3, 2002, in Punta Gorda.
She was born May 30, 1916, in New York City, N.Y. Mrs. Gilson moved to Punta Gorda from White Plains, N.Y. in 1977.
Survivors include a son, John (Mirella) Gilson of Miami, Fla.; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Aug. 7, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Ian D. Hals
Ian D. Hals, 59, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Aug. 4, 2002, at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte.
Mr. Hals was born June 6, 1943, in Patterson, N.J. He moved to Port Charlotte from Hawthorne, N.J., in 1984. He served his country in the U.S. Navy and was a Vietnam veteran.
He leaves behind his wife, Catherine Hals of Port Charlotte; three children, Dawn Fawkner of Deposit, N.Y., Ian Hals Jr. and Jacqueline Mendiz, both of Haledon, N.J.; three stepchildren, Kimberly Stoll of Port Charlotte, Christina Stoll of Port Charlotte and Scott Stoll of Hawthorne; seven grandchildren; a sister, Beryl Fox of Port Charlotte; and a nephew, Scott Fox of Columbia, Md.
A celebration of life will be at 11 a.m. Aug. 7, at Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home in Punta Gorda, Fla.
George L. Kelley
George L. Kelley, 81, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away July 23, 2002, in Punta Gorda.
Mr. Kelley was born Jan. 1, 1921, in Boston, Mass. He graduated from Boston College. Mr. Kelley served in the U.S. Army for 30 years, attaining the rank of lieutenant colonel and retiring in 1969. Upon retiring, he returned to Revere, Mass. He relocated to Punta Gorda in 1970. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Survivors include his sister, Rita Jones of Marblehead, Mass.; and a cousin, Frances Donovan of Mattapan, Mass. His wife, Ursula C. Kelley, preceded him in death.
A graveside service with full military honors will be at 1 p.m. Aug. 7, at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va. Funeral arrangements are by Kays-Ponger Funeral Home, Port Charlotte, Fla.
Iris B. Nessel
Iris Beatrice Nessel, 94, passed away at her home July 30, 2002.
She was born June 6, 1908, in Greenfield, Ind., a daughter of Cora Ellen (Horton) and George Andrew Scott. Iris married Harold Alanson Nessel Sr. on Oct. 13, 1932, in Chicago, Ill., and was active and supportive as a wife of a Methodist minister for 53 years. Mrs. Nessel dedicated her life to God and church, her husband and her family. She had lived in Canada Creek Ranch, Atlanta, Mich., for the past 50 years, formerly of Bay City, Mich., spending her winters in Punta Gorda, Fla. She was a member of Onaway United Methodist Church, Onaway, Mich., as well as Cleveland United Methodist in Punta Gorda. She loved the piano, especially playing in church, and for the elderly and shut-ins at convalescent homes. She devoted a lot of her time to assisting and caring for the elderly and homebound.
Iris is survived by her daughters, Patricia (Gary) Edwards of Jacksonville, Fla., and Pamela (Ted) Arens of Orchard Lake, Mich.; son, Harold Alanson (Sally) Nessel Jr. of Lansing, Mich.; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; sisters, Kathryn Songer, Freda Dalton, Eva Louis Brown and Irene Fisher; and a brother, Fred Emerson Scott.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Aug. 17, at Onaway United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Peter Bartlett officiating.

Margaret J. Awad
Margaret Josephine Awad, 79, of North Port, Fla., died Aug. 4, 2002.
She was born on July 2, 1923, in Cambridge, Mass. She moved to this area 12 years ago from Norwood, Mass. Margaret attended San Pedro Catholic Church. She was a retired member of ILGWU Boston Local 033.
Margaret is survived by her daughter, Carmelle Awad of North Port; a sister, Mary Arwashan of Damascus, Syria; a brother, John Arwashan of Norwood; three grandchildren, Margaret M. (Samir) Kiami of Dover, Mass., Mary Rose Cochrane of Sarasota, Fla., Frank (Danielle) Cochrane of Boston, Mass.; and four great-grandchildren, Michael Kiami, Kristina Kiami, Jessica Kiami and Amanda Kiami, all of Dover.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 7, at Farley Funeral Home, North Port Chapel. A funeral Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. Aug. 8, at San Pedro Catholic Church. Burial will be in Massachusetts.

Donald J. Love
Donald J. Love, 72, of Arcadia, Fla., died Aug. 2, 2002, at his residence in Arcadia.
He was born June 20, 1930, in Detroit, Mich. Mr. Love retired from Conrail Railroad after 30 years as a conductor. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving in Korea. He was a member of AMVETS Post 60 in Arcadia.
He is survived by his fianceé and care giver, his love, Marie Vancil Yax of Arcadia; two sons, Robert (Rita) Love and Donald (Jennifer) Love; two daughters, Gayle (Dale) Warford and Valerie (John) Matthewson; a sister, June MacMurray; two nieces, Debbie and Patti; two nephews, Mark and Greg; and 10 grandchildren. Don was preceded in death by his wife, Florence, in 1987; and a grandson, Michael Warford, in 1994.
Visitation and funeral services were Aug. 5 at Robarts Funeral Home Inc., Arcadia Chapel, with the Rev. Jerry Waters of Mount Ephraim Baptist Church officiating. Military honors were performed by DeSoto County Honor Guard. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery, East Tawas, Mich.

Doris J. Raley
Doris Jean Raley, nee Wigh, 73, died at home in her sleep, Aug. 3, 2002.
Doris was originally form Dayton, Ohio, and had lived in DeSoto County since 1995. She was a loving mother and homemaker. She was employed for many years by the Dayton Police Department and retired from Mont Co. purchasing department.
She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Frank; three sons, Gary of Brighton, Colo., George of Kenosha, Wis., and Kevin of Fredricktown, Mo.; a daughter, Victoria Gacke of Columbus, Ohio; six grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and a sister, Charlotte Beetz of Punta Gorda, Fla.
There will be no viewing or funeral service locally. A memorial service for family and friends will be held in Columbus on Labor Day weekend.
David E. Hughes III
David E. Hughes III, 70, of Punta Gorda, Fla., died Wednesday, August 1, 2001, at Community Hospital of Lancaster, Lancaster, Pa., after a brief illness.
Born in Wilkes Barre, Pa., he was the son of the late David E. Hughes, Jr. and the late Charlotte Ann Hughes.
He was the owner and operator of Pott's Doggie Shop in Port Charlotte, Fla., for 11 years, retiring in 1996. Prior to this he had been a journeyman electrician with IBEW 163 in Wilkes Barre for over 30 years. He was of United Methodist faith.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during the Korean War Era from 1948 to 1952.
He was a Free and Accepted Mason and had been a member of the Irem Temple Shrine Club in Wilkes Barre. He was a member of the American Legion of Port Charlotte and the Elks Club of Deep Creek, Fla.
He is survived by a son, David E. Hughes of Lancaster, Pa.; three daughters, Dawn Hughes of Florida, Lisa (Rich) Horan of Chalfont, Pa., Janine (Allen) Shatrowskas of Pittston, Pa.; six grandchildren; and a sister, Charlotte (William) Harris of Dresher, Pa.
Memorial services will be held on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Pilgrim United Church of Christ, 24515 Rampart Blvd., Port Charlotte. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Shriners' Hospitals for Children, 355 North Broad St., Philadelphia, Pa., 19140.
Peter Baptista Pasanio
Peter Baptista Pasanio, 87, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died August 3, 2001.
Peter was born Aug. 3, 1914, in Brooklyn, N.Y. Peter and his wife, Margaret, moved to Florida in 1976. He was a blacksmith at Revere Sugar Refinery for many years in Charlestown, Mass. He was an avid bowler with the American Bowling Congress. He belonged to the Italian American Club. He also worked for Charlotte County.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a loving daughter, Patricia Gattuso, and two grandsons, Billy and David Turman.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Pasanio of Port Charlotte; daughter, Margaret Turman of Port Charlotte; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
His grandchildren called him "Nana". He will be greatly missed by all of them.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Kays-Ponger/Royal Palm Funeral Home, Port Charlotte Chapel.

Catherine D. Scott
Catherine Scott, 88, of Englewood, Fla., died Friday, August 3, 2001, at her River Oaks residence.
Born on Aug. 28, 1912, in New York, N.Y., to Michael and Anna (Regan) Dalton, she had been a resident of Englewood for one year, coming from Manhattan. Mrs. Scott retired in 1979 after 35 years as an executive secretary for TWA airlines.
Survivors include her sons, Thomas J. Scott of Englewood and John T. Scott of Smithtown, N.Y.; three sisters, Doris Grant of Stony Brook, N.Y., and Marion Steinbrenner and Renee Casey, both of Bronx, N.Y.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral Mass will be said on today at 11:30 a.m. at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Bronx, N.Y., with burial to follow at St. Raymond's Cemetery.
Englewood Community Funeral Home has been selected to handle arrangements.
Dmytro Harysch
Dmytro Harysch, 81, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Thursday, July 31, 2003, at Mariner Health Care Center, after suffering from cancer for the past year.
Dmytro was born Oct. 7, 1921, in Western Ukraine near L'viv, the son of Ilko and Anna (Kaczmar) Harysch. He had immigrated to the United States about 1953, where he met and married Anna Magdalena Foos, daughter of Robert Foos and Maria Abele of Germany, in December 1956. They resided in New Jersey, where their son, Mark, was born in 1966. They later moved to Kerhonkson, N.Y., where he worked as a contractor/builder and helped with the family-run hotel. He moved to Port Charlotte in his later years.
Dmytro is survived by his son, Maj. Mark Harysch, U.S.A.F., of Omaha, Neb.; and two grandchildren, Kaitlyn, 9, and Michael, 7. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna, who died in 1983 in Kerhonkson.
Funeral services will be at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in North Port, Fla. He will be laid to rest at Venice Memorial Gardens. Sarah Lowry
Sarah Lowry, 91, of Englewood, Fla., passed away Saturday, Aug. 2, 2003, at her Sarasota County residence.
Mrs. Lowry was born Jan. 7, 1912, in Salineville, Ohio, to Sam and Santa (Albo) Macaluso. She and her husband, Howard, moved to Englewood in 1976 from Solon, Ohio. She became a member of St. Raphael's Catholic Church, St. Raphael's Council of Catholic Women, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1933 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10178 Auxiliary, all in Englewood. Sarah was a loving wife and mother.
Surviving are her loving husband of 62 years, Howard J. of Englewood; sons, Thomas (Lane) of Jacksonville, Fla., and James (Kristen); brother, Austin Macaluso of Ohio; eight grandchildren, Doug, Todd, Erin, Shayn, Jessica, Coleen, Sean and Scott; and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, at Lemon Bay Funeral Home, Englewood chapel. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Raphael's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Niles J. Gillen, OCarm, officiating. Interment will follow at Gulf Pines Memorial Park in Englewood.

Charles F. Bucher
Charles F. Bucher, 69, of North Port, Fla., died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2003, in Venice, Fla.
He was born Jan. 11, 1934, the son of Josephine and Andrew Bucher. He was raised in Williamsport, Pa. He graduated from Williamsport High School and attended Purdue University. Mr. Bucher was a Korean War veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy. He retired from Sikorsky Aircraft. He moved to North Port three years ago from Shelton, Conn. He was a Shelton Republican registrar of voters for 32 years.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Mills Bucher of North Port; former wife, Diane Knauff Bucher; two sons, Jeff (Sarah) Bucher of North Potomac, Md., and Kevin (Lynn) Bucher of East Berlin, Pa.; five daughters, Leah (Robert) Callaghan of Granbury, Texas, Michelle (John) Rank of Salado, Texas, Natalie (Christopher) Daiello of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Libby (Tom Pine) Bucher of Englewood, Colo., and Pamela (Mario) Rubbo of Princeton, N.J.; stepson, James Grant of Ormond Beach, Fla.; stepdaughter, Lisa (Kyle) Kelley of Ormond Beach; parents-in-law, John and Dorothy Mills; 12 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two sisters, Joanne (Wayne) Persun and Eleanor (Clark) Grosch. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Charles John Bucher; and a sister, Catherine E. Bucher.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, at the Holiday Park clubhouse. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Williamsport.

Manfred Anderson
Manfred "Fred" Anderson, 91, of Punta Gorda, Fla., died unexpectedly Aug. 1, 2001, at Charlotte Regional Medical Center.
He was born in New York on Feb. 7, 1910. He worked as a banker in Green Point Savings Bank for more than 40 years, where he became vice president. He lived on Long Island, N.Y. for many years and moved to Punta Gorda 28 years ago while keeping his summer home on Long Island. While living here in Punta Gorda in Windmill Village, he had been a very active worker from vice president of the Village Club to president and handyman whenever needed. He attended First Presbyterian Church of Punta Gorda, was a member of the Punta Gorda Country Club and was always ready to help his neighbors.
He leaves his wife, Matilda Collmer Anderson of Punta Gorda; a son, Walter (Joyce) Anderson of Commack, N.Y.; a stepson, Lt. Col. Philip (Bonnie) Collmer of Lake Wood, Wash.; four grandchildren, Richard Nold of Santa Clara, Calif., Terrie Volle of Penryn, Calif., Cord Anderson of Commack, N.Y., and Jill Chase of Nebraska. He was predeceased by his first wife, Margaurite, and their daughter, Dorothy Nold.

Linda D. Sisnett
Linda D. Sisnett, 48, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Friday, Aug. 3, 2001, at Bon Secours-St. Joseph Hospital.
She was born Feb. 2, 1953 in Kalamazoo, Mich. and moved to this area in 1999 from Toronto, Canada. She had worked as a Quality Control Engineer for Kyocera and also for Lockheed Martin, both in San Diego, Calif. Locally, she had been employed by Mutual Mortgage in Punta Gorda. She enjoyed fishing and boating with her husband, found happiness loving her two schnauzers and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Linda is survived by her husband, Peter H. Sisnett of Port Charlotte; mother, Margaret Horton; sister, Connie McBride and her husband, Kim, of San Diego, Calif.; brother, Eugene Horton Jr. of Florida; father and mother-in-law, Rudy and Eileen Sisnett of Newcastle, Ontario, Canada; brother-in-law, Mark Sisnett of Port Colborne, Ontario; and sister-in-law, Debra Edmunds of Whitby, Ontario.
