Mary R. Adams

Mary R. Adams, 83, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2003.

She was born June 12, 1920, in Langhorn, Pa., the daughter of Edward and Alma (Eye) Worthington. She retired from the New Jersey Fish & Game Commission, and came to this area from Absecon, N.J., in 1978. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Mary will be greatly missed by her husband of 56 years, Albert; daughters, Alma Jean O'Connor of Mahwah, N.J., and Mary Francis Adams of Bridgewater, N.J.; son, Albert Adams of Atlantic City, N.J.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Richard F. Burget

Richard F. "Dick" Burget, 78, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2003.

He was born May 20, 1925, in Gary, Ind., the son of Harry and Gladys (Eisnogle) Burget. Dick proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He came to this area in 1981 from Joliet, Ill., where he was a high school teacher for 30 years before retiring. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Joliet; Disabled American Veterans Chapter 82; Tin Can Sailors (National Association of Destroyer Veterans); American Legion Post 110 in Port Charlotte, Fla.; and Loyal Order of Moose 2121 in Port Charlotte.

Dick will be greatly missed by his wife of 55 years, Patricia "Pat"; daughters, Claudia (Larry) Kubuiski of Burr Ridge, Ill., and Paula (Paul) Jarot of Chiang Mai, Thailand; son, Scott Richard Burget of Port Charlotte; brother, Donald Burget of Merriville, Ind.; sister, Patsy Rush of Valparaiso, Ind.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Friends will gather at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, at Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services. To express condolences to the family, visit www.LTaylorfuneral.com and sign the guest book.

Marie E. Hill

Marie E. Hill, 74, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Saturday, July 26, 2003.

She was born April 28, 1929, in East Burke, Vt. She was owner and operator of a ceramic shop in East Haven, Vt., before moving to Port Charlotte 11 years ago from East Haven. She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary in North Port, Fla., and American Legion Auxiliary in Lyndonville, Vt.

She is survived by a daughter, Teresa (Ronald) D'Aniello of Port Charlotte; son, Michael Newell of Brooks, Maine; grandson, Ronald D'Aniello Jr. of Boise, Idaho; granddaughter, Evelyn Williams of Port Charlotte; grandson, Andrew Newell of Old Town, Maine; three great-granddaughters; sister, Winnifred Cass of St. Johnsbury, Vt.; and sister-in-law, Barbara Woodward of West Burke, Vt.

Services will be private. Burial will be in East Haven Cemetery in East Haven. Lemon Bay Funeral Home, Venice chapel, is in charge of arrangements.

Adam R. Peck

Tech. Sgt. Adam Robert Peck, 27, of Sarasota, Fla., and formerly of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Wednesday, July 23, 2003.

He was born May 13, 1976, in Stratford, Conn. He moved to Sarasota from Stratford in 1992. He served in the U.S. Air Force for eight years and was currently a technical sergeant and crew chief of F-16 fighter jets. He will be sorely missed by his parents, maternal and paternal grandparents and his entire family.

He is survived by his parents, Kathleen A. and Robert F. Anderson of Sarasota, and Dayv Peck of Stratford; sister, Amy Lynn Peck Detore of Sarasota; and niece, Sofia Rae Detore of Sarasota.

Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 31, at Siesta Key Beach, adjacent to the north end of the parking lot.

Donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Arrangements are by Palms Funeral Home, Sarasota.

Alice M. Robinson

Alice M. Robinson, 102, of Englewood, Fla., passed away Friday, July 25, 2003.

She was born Sept. 29, 1900, in Royal Oak, Mich., to Owen and Ada Bromley. She moved to Englewood in 1987 from Royal Oak. Mrs. Robinson was a homemaker. She was a member of Royal Oak United Methodist Church and Englewood United Methodist Church and served with several church groups.

Survivors include her son, Kenneth Robinson of Englewood and Clarkston, Mich.; and one grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester W. Robinson; two sisters; and three brothers.

Memorial services will be held Aug. 28, at White Chapel in Troy, Mich. A service will be held in Florida at a later date. Arrangements are by National Cremation Society of Port Charlotte.

Alice M. Snyder

Alice M. Snyder, 97, of Hamilton, Ohio, and formerly of Englewood, Fla., passed away Monday, July 28, 2003, at Westover Retirement Community in Hamilton.

She was born March 28, 1906, in Butler County, Ohio, to Elizabeth Skelton and Paul J. Sauer. She attended Stockton School, Notre Dame Academy and Hamilton High School. She graduated from Mercy School of Nursing in 1931. On March 4, 1933, she married Kenneth H. Snyder in Oxford. Her career as a registered nurse spanned more than 40 years, including association with Mercy Hospital, The Bendix Corp. and Westover Retirement Home, as well as private-duty nursing. She spent winter months in Englewood with her sister, and regularly volunteered with Englewood Chamber of Commerce.

She is survived by her son, Kenneth (Phyllis); three grandchildren, Sarah Snyder of Portland, Conn., Reid (Amy) Snyder of Columbia, Md., and Neill (Lorraine) Snyder of Louisville, Ky.; three great-grandchildren, Garreth, Samantha and Nickolas Snyder; and a sister, Betty Myers of Englewood. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth H. Snyder, in 1954; and brothers, William J., Paul B. and Arch A. Sauer.

Funeral services will be at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to Colonial Foundation for the Westover Campus, 520 Eaton Ave., Hamilton, OH 45013. Weigel Funeral Home, Hamilton, is in charge of arrangements.

Mary R. Nelson

Mary R. Nelson, 72, of Arcadia, Fla., died Tuesday, July 29, 2003.

She was born Oct. 15, 1930, in Arcadia. She was a lifetime resident of Arcadia. She was a homemaker. She was a member of North Hillsborough Baptist Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Mary Ann (Lawrence) Estes of Palmdale, Fla., and Sue Nelson of Arcadia; two sons, Willis (Sue) Nelson of Arcadia and Harvey Allen of Palmdale; two sisters, Maybelle Albritton of Nocatee, Fla., and Daisy Hutson of Arcadia; two brothers, Barney Mansfield of Arcadia and Juril (Madelyn) Mansfield of Arcadia; 24 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney Nelson; and sons, Terry Lee Nelson Sr. and Jimmy Lee Nelson.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, at the chapel of Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home, Arcadia. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, at North Hillsborough Baptist Church, Arcadia. Burial will be in Joshua Creek Cemetery, Arcadia. Arrangements are by Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home, Arcadia.

Evelyn Mae Randolph Ahearn

Evelyn Mae Randolph Ahearn entered into rest on July 25, 2001, in Fawcett Hospital, Port Charlotte, Fla.

She was born on Sept. 12, 1914, in South Plainfield, N.J. She was married to John Joseph Ahearn for 42 years. He preceded her in death on July 21, 1974. Evelyn retired after working for over 35 years as a lab assistant for Bakelite/Union Carbide in Bound Brook, N.J. Evelyn was a member of the DAR in Dunellen, N.J., and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Piscataway. She lived in Piscataway (New Market) all her life until she moved to Hobe Sound, Fla., in 1977. At her passing, she resided at Southport Retirement Facility and was a member of the Port Charlotte United Methodist Church. She was a volunteer for the Cultural Center and enjoyed music, singing, dancing, bowling and bingo until her health prevented her from participating in these activities.

She is survived by her two children, Joseph W. Ahearn of Nice, Calif., and Gloria E. Osborn of Punta Gorda, Fla.; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date in New Jersey. Memorials may be sent to Port Charlotte Methodist Church or Social Activities of South Port Square in Port Charlotte. Arrangements are by Kays-Ponger/Royal Palm Funeral Homes, Punta Gorda Chapel.

Mary Ethel Moree

Mary Ethel Moree, 66, of Punta Gorda, Fla., died July 26, 2001, in Punta Gorda.

Mrs. Moree was born March 23, 1935, in Salem, Fla. She has resided in this area for a long period of time. She was employed by the Circle K Corp. since 1977. She was preceded in death by her husband, James, who died in 1998.

Survivors include her three daughters, Ellen Singletary of North Fort Myers, Fla., and Yvonne Conners and Lynn Moree, both of Punta Gorda, FL; five sons, Gary Moree, Larry Moree, Marvin Moree and Donnie Moree, all of Punta Gorda, and James T. Moree; five sisters, Janie Pryor, of Trenton, Ga., Doris Morgan of Alabama, Gwen Pritchard of Fort Myers, Maedena Collins of Punta Gorda and Joyce Clemons of Port Charlotte, Fla.; one brother, J. A. Jackson of Punta Gorda; 17 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 29, 2001 at the Punta Gorda chapel of Kays-Ponger/Royal Palm Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 30, 2001 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Indian Springs Cemetery. Arrangements are by Kays Ponger/Royal Palm Funeral Home, Punta Gorda, chapel.

Ann Meredith Flower

Ann Meredith Flower, 60, of Punta Gorda, Fla., died July 24, 2001, at Charlotte Regional Medical Center.

She was born April 15, 1941, in Grand Rapids, Mich., to Louis and Hildah (Bateman) Flower. Ann came to this area in 1965 from Michigan.

Ann is survived by her daughters, Cathy Maxwell and Susan Klingsten, both of Port Charlotte; brother, Robert M. Flower of Denver, Colorado; and grandaughter, Arianna Klingsten of Port Charlotte.

Arrangements are by Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services.

Gladys L. Menold

Gladys L. Menold, 84, of Port Charlotte, Fla., formerly of Shenango Valley, died July 23, 2001, in Port Charlotte.

Mrs. Menold was born in Brookfield, Ohio, on July 14, 1917, a daughter of Ammon J. and Mabel Baxter Lunn. She was a graduate of Barberton, Ohio High School. Mrs. Menold had been employed as a clerk at Westinghouse Electric, Sharon, Pa. for 25 years, retiring Feb. 1, 1978. She was a member of the East Side Baptist Church, Punta Gorda, Fla.

Survivors include a son, Laird "Butch" Sheldon of Sharpsville, Pa.; a daughter, Lois Pappa of Youngstown, Ohio; a sister, Doris Paukovich of Warren, Ohio; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Menold was preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph Sheldon and her second husband, Ralph L. Menold. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Eleanor Cholka and Mabel McKnight and an infant brother.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. July 27, at the Madasz Funeral Home Inc., Brookfield, Ohio, with Rev. Stephen Pressey, pastor of St. Rocco's Episcopal Church, Youngstown. Calling hours will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. July 26. Burial will be in Brookfield Township Cemetery.

Velva E. Nibert

elva E. Nibert, 88, of Englewood, Fla., died July 23, 2001, in Englewood.

Born August 17, 1912 in Proctorville, Ohio, she and her husband operated Niberts Restaurant in Harrisburg, Ohio from 1953 until retirement in 1970. She was a member of Jackson Chapel United Methodist Church in Grove City, Ohio.

She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Bud E. Nibert; a daughter, Colleen Haag of Englewood; sons, Carroll Nibert of Gahanna, Ohio, and Wayne Nibert of Spring Hill, Fla.; sister, Edith Pofford of Stuart, Fla.; brothers, Odell Ellis of Marysville, Ohio, and Orville Ellis of Chillicothe, Ohio; nieces, Peggie Robbins of Ashville, Ohio, and Mary Plymale of Delaware, Ohio; and grandson, Brad (Angie) Nibert of Wheelersburg, Ohio, who helped care for her.

A memorial service will be held in Grove City, Ohio, at a later date. Arrangements are by the National Cremation Society, Port Charlotte.

Gladys Irene Walker

Gladys Irene Walker, 89, of Englewood, Fla., died Monday, July 23, 2001, at her residence.

Born on August 20, 1911, in Smyrna, Ga., to William and Minnie (Vilyard) Elkins, she had been a resident of Englewood for 15 years, coming from Thonotosassa, Fla. Mrs. Walker was a loving wife, mother and homemaker for her family. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Uel, in 1997.

Survivors include her daughter, Irene Fowlkes of Englewood; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service. Funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Englewood Community Funeral Home, 3070 South McCall Road, with the Reverend Dr. James E. Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Venice Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Arrangements are by the Englewood Community Funeral Home.

Betty Blays

Betty Blays, 75, of North Port, Fla., died on July 23, 2001.

Betty was born in Detroit, Mich., and moved here from Howell, Mich. in 1984. She was a waitress and worked in sales for K Mart. She was of the Catholic faith.

Betty is survived by her husband, Robert Blays of North Port; two sons, Michael Blays of Michigan, Patrick Blays of Fowlerville, Mich.; two daughters, Kathleen West of Lutz, Fla. and Joan Stelzner of Valrico, Fla.; and five grandchildren.

Funeral services will be private. Farley Funeral Home, North Port Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Louise V. Stough

Louise V. Stough, 70, of Arcadia, Fla., died July 23, 2001, at Bon Secours-St. Joseph Hospital, Port Charlotte, Fla.

She was born Jan. 26, 1931, in Mt. Pleasant, Pa. She came to Arcadia 25 years ago from Mt. Pleasant. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her companion of 12 years, Robert G. Smith of Arcadia; two sons, Ralph Stough of Ukiah, Calif. and John Stough of Jeannette, Pa.; three sisters, Roberta Parr of Buzzards Bay, Mass., Pauline Rosignoli of Sebring, Fla. and Laura Frew of Jeannette; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. July 26, at the Robarts Funeral Home Inc., Arcadia, with the funeral service following at 4 p.m. at the chapel with Reverend Elaine Proctor officiating. Burial will be in Joshua Creek Cemetery, Arcadia.

Gladys Nadine Walker

Gladys Nadine Walker, 59, died July 23, 2001, at her home.

She was born Feb. 17, 1942, in Wauchula, Fla. She came to Arcadia, 40 years ago from Pompano Beach, Fla. She was a secretary for 37 years at G. Pierce Wood Memorial Hospital, Arcadia. She was an avid gardener.

Survivors include one son, Windy (Cindy) Walker of Lake Placid, Fla.; one brother, Danny Dansby of Punta Gorda, Fla.; four sisters, Marilyn Grimsley and Pat Tinsley, both of Pompano Beach, Sue Staton of Wauchula and Gail LeRoy of Leesburg, Fla.; six grandchildren, Ashley and Whitney Walker, Jason, Charlie, Jaime and Keith Ross and two great-grandchildren, Shelby and Destiny Ross. She was preceded in death by a brother, Billy D. Albritton.

Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. July 26 at the Robarts Funeral Home Inc., Arcadia. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. July 27 at the funeral home chapel with Reverend Terry Hudson officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Arcadia.
