Thomas E. Walmsley, 85, of Punta Gorda, Fla., died July 11, 2001.
He was born March 21, 1916, in Liverpool, England, to Thomas and Mary (Worsley) Walmsley. He moved to this area in 1995 from Bradenton, Fla. Thomas was a retired production engineer for GTE. He and his wife, June, have traveled to and lived in many different exciting places.
Thomas is survived by his wife, June; daughters, S. Veronica Walmsley of Goleta, Calif., and Pamela Estes of Mulbery, Tenn.; grandchildren, Christopher and Amber Estes of Tennessee and Somerset Walmsley and Miles Evans of California; sisters, Florence Camble of Kent, England, and Rose Runnegar of Melbourne, Australia.

Mildred Elsie Y. Nichols
Mildred Elsie Y. Nichols, 86, of Englewood, Fla., died Wednesday, July 11, 2001, at Englewood Community Hospital.
Born on Jan. 4, 1915, in Perry County, Penn., to Calvin and Katherine (Mort) Yohn, she had been a resident of Englewood for 30 years, coming from Far Hills, N.J. Mrs. Nichols was a loving wife, mother and homemaker for her family.
Survivors include her daughter, Kathy N. Halsey of Long Valley, N.J.; step-daughter, Marie Cowton of Point Claire, Quebec, Canada; step-son, Edward R. Nichols, III of Naples, Fla.; five grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

Ruth Albritton Tanner
Ruth Albritton Tanner, 86, of Myakka City, Fla., formerly of Arcadia, Fla., died July 10, 2001, in Bradenton, Fla.
Ruth was born in Clermont, Fla., and has been a lifelong resident of the area. She was a homemaker, and a member of Myakka City Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Joan Albritton Wingate of Myakka City; a son, Clyde L. Albritton of West Palm Beach, Fla.; a sister, Ina Hitch of Winter Haven, Fla.; and a brother Joe Brown of Norcross, Ga.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. July 14, at Myakka City Baptist Church with Rev. Alton Gill and Pastor Jimmie Driggers officiating. Interment will follow in Miakka Cemetery, Sarasota, Fla. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. July 13 at the Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home in Arcadia.
In lieu of flowers friends may make donations to the veterans organization of their choice in memory of Mrs. Tanner.
Clarence E. Anderson
Clarence Edward Anderson, 87, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died July 11, 2002, at Bon Secours-St. Joseph Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Port Charlotte.
Born Feb. 2, 1915, in Colver, Pa., Mr. Anderson moved to Port Charlotte in 1978 from Buffalo, N.Y. He was a pipe fitter with Western Electric in Buffalo. He attended St. James Episcopal Church and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and Charlotte Players, all in Port Charlotte.
Survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Violet; son, Jay Anderson of Buffalo; stepdaughters, Sharon Allen of Texas and Lynette Woomer of Buffalo; stepson, James Coles of Buffalo; sisters, Elizabeth Harris of Buffalo and Glenda Strachan of Arizona; brother, Wayne Anderson of Hastings, Pa.; two granddaughters and three step-grandchildren.

George A. Cavano
George A. Cavano, 78, of Charlotte Harbor, Fla., passed away July 10, 2002 at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte, Fla.
He was born in Grand Rapids, Mich., and moved to Charlotte Harbor in 1954. Mr. Cavano was a Marine veteran serving in World War II in the South Pacific. He was a member of Port Charlotte VFW Post 110, Punta Gorda Masonic Lodge 115, and Marine Corps League of Port Charlotte. He retired in 1979 after 30 years with Florida Power & Light. Mr. Cavano is also a member of Anglican Church of St. Paul, Port Charlotte.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Betty Cavano; a son, George R. Cavano of Port Charlotte; a daughter, Kerry Oliver of Overland, Kan.; a brother, Arthur (Janet) Cavano of Fayetteville, N.C.; two grandchildren, Lindsey and Brian Oliver.
Services will be at 10 a.m. July 13, at Anglican Church of St. Paul, Port Charlotte. Burial at Restlawn Memorial Gardens will follow services.

Marvin N. Geldersma
Marvin Neil Geldersma, 78, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died July 10, 2002.
Mr. Geldersma served his country in the United States Marine Corps as a master sergeant. He was the owner of Geldersma Electrical Sales in Grand Rapids, Mich., for 25 years and had resided here since 1986. Mr. Geldersma served as a holiday bell ringer for the Salvation Army.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Ruth R. Geldersma; two daughters, Barbara J. Geldersma of Springdale, Utah, and Nancy L. Wood of Grand Rapids; a special daughter, Linda L. Battle; a sister, Joyce Van Popering of Lawrenceville, Ga.; four grandchildren, Christine Wood, Stewart Neil Geldersma, Steven James Geldersma and Aaron Wood; and a great-grandson, Zachery Neil Geldersma. A son, Robert Neil Geldersma, and an infant child preceded him in death.
A celebration of life will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. July 14, in the Can-Am Building at Maple Leaf Estates. Graveside service and inurnment will be at 10 a.m. Aug. 2, at Fairplains Cemetery in Grand Rapids.

James T. Harvey
James T. Harvey, 64, of Punta Gorda, Fla., died July 10, 2002, at his residence.
He was born Feb. 6, 1938, in Philadelphia, Pa., and moved to Punta Gorda from Doylestown, Pa., four years ago. He was retired senior account executive for Marion Labs of Kansas City, Mo., in the pharmaceutical sales industry. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Punta Gorda, Knights of Columbus, Isles Yacht Club, Charlotte County Republican Club, Punta Gorda Kiwanis Club, and the Punta Gorda Civic Association.
He is survived by his wife, Eileen Harvey of Punta Gorda; a daughter, Evelyn N. Harvey of Punta Gorda; two sons, Patrick J. Harvey of Upper Darby, Pa., and Kevin P. Harvey of Boca Raton, Fla.; two grandchildren, Brierly and Lauren Harvey of Boca Raton.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 2 p.m., July 13, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Further services and interment will be held in Pennsylvania.

Morris W. McMillan
Morris William McMillan, 83, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died July 10, 2002, at Charlotte Regional Medical Center in Punta Gorda, Fla.
He was born July 6, 1919, in Beaver Dam, Wis., and came to this area 23 years ago from Fort Myers Beach, Fla. Mr. McMillan was a commercial fisherman. He was a member of VFW Post 5690; American Legion Post 110, Port Charlotte; American Legion Post 274, Fort Myers Beach; and Florida Peace River Chapter of Ex-POWs. He served in the U.S. Army in the Battle of the Philippine Islands, Lipa, Cabanatuan and Corregidor, and was a member of the U.S. Cavalry. He was decorated with the Distinguished Unit Badge (two Oak Leaf Clusters), the American Defense Ribbon (a Bronze Star), the Philippine Defense Ribbon (a Bronze Star), an Asiatic Pacific Service Medal and a World War II Victory Medal. Mr. McMillan was in the Bataan Death March and was a POW in camps in Japan, Osaka and Akenobe. He was of the Catholic faith.
Survivors include his daughters, Deborah Anne McMillan and Jean Michele McMillan, both of Port Charlotte; brother, James Vincent (Dorothy) McMillan of Beaver Dam; sisters-in-law, Junetta (David) Robinson and Vera (David) Taylor, both of Fort Myers, Fla.; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. July 12, at Paul Schelm Funeral Home, Port Charlotte. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. at the funeral home, with deacon Michael DiMeglio officiating. Burial will be at Indian Springs Cemetery, Punta Gorda.

Hazel Gertrude Montgomery, 82, of Englewood (Sarasota County), Fla., died July 10, 2002, at Venice Hospice House in Venice, Fla.
Born Feb. 19, 1920, to Wellington and Sarah (Florence) D'Arcy, she had been a resident of Englewood since her retirement in 1980 from the Patience-Montgomery Funeral Home in Jackson, Mich., after serving 40 years as its secretary/treasurer. She was a member of St. David Episcopal Church in Englewood; a member and past president of the Jackson Women's Club; and the Venice Art League, where she was an active sculpture artist.
She was predeceased by her husband, Edward, and grandson, Edward. Surviving are two sons, John E. Montgomery of Surprise, Ariz., and Robert C. Montgomery of Jackson; a granddaughter, Mary Ann Ross of Jackson; and two great-granddaughters, Ashley and Colleen Ross, both of Jackson.
Visitation will be from noon until service time at 1 p.m. July 12, at Englewood Community Funeral Home, 3070 S. McCall Road, with the Rev. Arthur Lee of St. David Episcopal Church officiating. Interment will be July 15 at Woodland Cemetery in Jackson.

Charlie C. Mann
Mr. Charlie Clayton Mann, 42, of Bradenton, Fla., died July 6, 2002, at his residence.
Charlie was born in Arcadia, Fla., and was a lifetime resident of Manatee County. He was a retired master sergeant of the U.S. Air Force and a member of Bethany Baptist Church. He was also a member and Past Master of Rantoul Masonic Lodge No. 470 F&AM, Rantoul, Ill.; life member of National Rifle Association; and life member of National Skeet Association.
He is survived by his wife, Paula; a daughter, Barbara M. Mann of Bradenton; a son, Charles A. Mann of Shreveport, La.; two sisters, Paula L. Lowrimore of Palmetto, Fla., and Nancy M. Mann of Myakka City, Fla.; a brother, Duane E. Mann of Arcadia; and his parents, Virgil and Roberta Mann of Myakka City.
A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. July 13, at Bethany Baptist Church, 26604 State Road 64 E., with Masonic services by Manatee Masonic Lodge No. 31 F&AM, and military honors by MacDill Air Force Base. The Rev. Denney B. Davis will officiate.

Eva L. Cunningham
Eva L. Cunningham, 84, went to be with the Lord on July 9, 2001, at Charlotte Harbor Healthcare in Port Charlotte, Fla.
Born Oct. 31, 1916, to Louis & Mildred Shumway in Belchertown, Mass., she retired from Cumberland Farms in Belchertown and moved to Port Charlotte in 1973. She enjoyed playing bridge and traveling.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Roy E. Cunningham, who died in 1984.
She is survived by her daughter, Harriet (Jimmie) Russell; her granddaughter, Sheila (Scott) Graham; great-grandchildren, Katrina and Joshua Graham; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held in Massachusetts at a later date. The family requests any donations be made to First Baptist Church of Port Charlotte's building fund in her name, 20035 Quesada Blvd., Port Charlotte, Fla., 33952.

Aladar L. Donath
Aladar L. (Al) Donath, 77, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away July 10, 2001, at Bon Secours-St. Joseph's Hospital in Port Charlotte, Fla.
A resident of Charlotte County for 17 years, he was born in Lorain, Ohio, where he resided for 30 years, and was a resident of Elyria, Ohio, for 31 years before moving to Port Charlotte in 1984. He attended schools in Lorain and Cleveland, Ohio, where he played the guitar and flute, sang, and was a member of a musical group.
Mr. Donath was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, where he was the head usher at 12:15 p.m. Mass since 1993. He was a member of the Holy Name Society, BPO Elks Lodge No. 2153, Port Charlotte Yacht Club, American Legion Post 110, all of Florida, and a former member of VFW Post 1079, Elyria. He was employed at United States Steel Corp. in Lorain for 41 years, until his retirement in 1983.
He worked in metallurgy, chemical and physical labs and retired from maintenance planning where he was a maintenance metallurgist subcontracting work to various outside shops for repairs. He was also a realtor in Ohio. He was a World War II veteran in the European Theatre of Operations in the 1st and 3rd Army with General Patton's Fifth Armored Division. Prior to retirement, he was an avid golfer, bowler in various leagues and pitched fastball; dancing was also a big part of his life.
Upon retirement, he and his wife, Irene, moved to Port Charlotte, although retirement didn't mean retiring. He volunteered with the Retired Senior Volunteer program and drove part-time for a retirement home, which became almost a full-time activity. He was also a bingo caller at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Elks 2153 of Port Charlotte, Cultural Center of Charlotte County and American Legion. He also found time to do a little fishing, take organ and computer lessons and appear in a television commercial.
Survivors are his current wife, Jennie Terry Lyons Donath, who he married in 1999; two daughters, Linda of Atlanta, Ga., a graduate of UCLA where she was a member of a national honor society; Donna (Garriques), of Sarasota, Fla., who graduated from Stetson University where she received a full tennis scholarship, and her children, Michelle Lee and Courtney Lynn Garriques; and a son, Alan, who attended The American Academy of Dramatic Arts and belongs to the Screen Actors' Guild and AFTRA in Burbank, Calif. He was preceded in death in 1997 by his wife Irene, to whom he had been married for 50 years. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Yolanda Horosz and Helen Grubic; and two brothers, Albert and Steve, all of Lorain.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. July 12 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, with the Rev. Tom Wentland officiating. The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. today in the chapel of the Kays-Ponger/Royal Palm Funeral Home in Punta Gorda. Graveside services and interment will be in Lorain.
Frank M. Doukellis
Frank M. Doukellis, 44, of Punta Gorda, Fla., died after a brief illness, on July 9, 2001, at Bon Secours-St. Joseph Hospital, Port Charlotte, Fla.
Born Feb. 15, 1957, in Greece, he moved to Punta Gorda two years ago from East Longmeadow, Mass. He and his family owned and operated the Lakeview Restaurant in Port Charlotte. He was of the Greek Orthodox faith.
He is survived by his loving wife, Diane Doukellis; a daughter, Marina Doukellis; a brother, Peter (Nancy) Doukellis; and his parents, Theodore and Lisa Basta all of Punta Gorda.
Visitation will be on Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Roberson Funeral Home, Port Charlotte Chapel, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 13, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. The Rev. Demetrios A. Kavouras will officiate. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Port Charlotte.

Phillip Vincent Greulich
Phillip Vincent Greulich, 58, of Pomona Park, Fla., died July 9, 2001 at Putnam Community Medical Center.
He moved to Pomona Park in 1997 from Punta Gorda, Fla., where he lived since 1973. He was the owner of C&P Automotive and formerly was employed with Johnny Crews Ford and Axtell's 66.
He was a member of Moose Lodge and was a lover of country music, especially Hank Williams. He loved to work with his hands and lately he enjoyed woodworking.
Frank will be missed by his daughter, Michelle (Bobby) Haughie of Port Charlotte, Fla.; son, Vincent (Pamela) Greulich of Georgia; brother, Nicholas (Sandy) Greulich of S. Milwaukee, Wis.; sisters, Patricia (Robert) Lankford and Margo (Kenneth) Arndt, both of Port Charlotte; and two grandchildren.
Services will be private. Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements.
