Maynard Allan Clayman, 79, of Englewood passed on Thursday, June 14, 2001 at his residence.
Born on April 2, 1922 in Wickliffe, Ohio to Carl and Erma (Kelsey) Clayman, he had been a resident of Englewood for twenty one years coming from Mentor, Ohio. Mr. Clayman retired as a mechanical test engineer for General Motors in Hudson, Ohio in 1979 after forty years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II; a member of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge 2378 in Englewood; American Legion Post 159 in Venice.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Marijane Wagner Clayman of Englewood; two sisters, Marjorie Sabbath of East Lake, Ohio, and Jean Silver of Painesville, Ohio; one brother, Wayne Clayman of Mentor, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
A private service will be held at a later date. Englewood Community Funeral Home has been selected to handle arrangements.
Frank Jackson
Frank Jackson, 87, of Englewood, Fla. died June 14, 2001.
He was born Sept. 18, 1913 in Malden, Mass., and moved to this area in 1980 from Chelmsford, Mass. Mr. Jackson was the retired owner of Frank E. Jackson Realty in Chelmsford. He was a Mason, member of the Shriners, lifetime member of the Englewood Rotary and a member of the United Methodist Church of Englewood. Mr. Jackson served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include daughter, Joanne (Dan) Harvey of Englewood, Fla.; son William (Michele) of Los Altos, Calif.; grandchildren, Dan (Jill) Harvey Jr. of Englewood, Jeffrey (Tammi) Harvey of Port Charlotte, Fla., Tammy (Brett) Hodges of Winston/Salem, N.C., Theodore Jackson of Los Altos, Calif., and David (Carolina) Jackson of Argentina; and seven great-grandchildren.

Margaret M. Striplin
Margaret Marie Striplin, 76, of Rotonda West, Fla., died Thursday, June 14, 2001 at her residence.
Born on May 2, 1925 in Bronx, New York to James and Margaret (Hehir) Ahearn, she had been a resident of the Englewood area for seven years coming from Nashville, Tenn. Mrs. Striplin was a nurses aid at South Side Hospital in Bayshore, Long Island, NY. She was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Grove City.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Donald L. Striplin of Rotonda West; three daughters, Peggy Ulrich of Port Charlotte, Fla., Gina Beltran of Rotonda West, and Christine Bradley of Englewood; five sons, Donald Striplin of Manorville, N.Y., Patrick Striplin of Center Moriches, N.Y., Chester Striplin of Bayshore, N.Y., Michael Striplin of Madison, Tenn., and Thomas Striplin of Mt. Savage, Md.; 23 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Visitation was Friday at the Englewood Community Funeral Home, 3070 S. McCall Road. A prayer service was said at 8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. June 16 at St. Francis of Assisi Parish with Father Bartholomew Larkin, officiating. Burial will follow in Venice Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Nellie M. Czyz
Nellie M. Czyz, 85, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died June 2, 2001.
She was born in Warren, Mass., Nov. 9, 1915. She graduated with honors from Warren High School, and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Worcester State College in 1937. She received a geography scholarship to Clark University in Worcester to specialize in climatology and meteorology. She retired after 32 years of teaching in Massachusetts and Connecticut school systems. She moved to Port Charlotte in September 1973 and became active and held offices in the American Association of University Women, Charlotte Grandmother Club No. 665, Friendship Club, Council of Catholic Women and also volunteered in Bon Secour-St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary since 1982. She was active in the mentoring program conducted by the Board of Education. In 1989, she was contacted by the Peace Corps to use her teaching expertise to train teachers in the Philippines. As a member of the International Federation of University Women, she attended a number of conferences hosted by countries belonging to IFUW. In 1993, as a global volunteer, she traveled to Poland to teach English to Polish students.
Survivors include a son, Dr. Philip Czyz; three grandchildren, Craig, Corey and Shannon; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held June 12 at Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home, 5200 Indian Springs Rd., Punta Gorda, Fla.
William Michael Linsenmann
William Michael Linsenmann, 82, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away June 13, 2001.
He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. A 1941 graduate of Kent State University, he received his juris doctorate degree from Cleveland Marshall Law School, graduating magna cum laude in 1950. As an attorney, Mr. Linsenmann retired from Ohio Casualty Insurance Company in 1984 as Senior Vice President. He was a trustee of Mercy Hospital, and a member of the Ohio Bar Association, Ohio Trial Lawyers Association, Association of Insurance Council, and the Elks Lodge. He loved to read, golf and travel.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Darla; two daughters, Karen (Tak) Okamoto and Robin (Ross) Brown; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services and interment will be private.

Lenore J. Bryant
Lenore J. Bryant, 83, of North Port, Fla., formerly of Nassau, N.Y., died June 7, 2001, at Quality Health Care Center in North Port.
Mrs. Bryant was born in Tomahawk, Wis., the daughter of Alfred and Hilma Johnson. She moved to Nassau in the 1930s where she lived until moving to Florida in 1973. She spent the summers at Lyons Lake in Nassau until 1999. After 1999, her health prevented her from spending her summers in Nassau. She was well known for her paintings, which hang in places like the Nassau Free Library and Nassau post office. She was also known for her work with crafts. She would make toys for the children of the migrant workers in Florida.
Survivors include her sons, William C. (Cynthia) Bryant III of Schodack, N.Y., and Barry J. (Mary Ann) Bryant of Ypsilanti, Mich.; a sister, Marilyn Stivers of Pasco, Wash.; and grandsons, William J. Bryant of Arnold, Md. and Daniel Morris of Spokane, Wash. Mrs. Bryant was predeceased by her husband, William C. Bryant Jr., and her brothers, Robert and Lester Johnson.
The funeral is at 11 a.m., June 16, at the Thomas P. Mooney Funeral Home, 11 Elm St., Nassau, N.Y. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. preceding the service. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Nassau.

Arthur V. Boyce
Arthur V. Boyce of Englewood, Fla., died May 28, 2001.
He was born Aug. 14, 1915, in Lexington, Mass. Prior to retiring to Englewood, he was a resident of Kennebunk, Maine, where he was active on the planning board and other civic activities. Arthur worked in the plastics industry and was a member of the Society of Plastics Engineers. He developed many formulas and techniques for the industry that are still in use today. He was an active member of Community Presbyterian Church in Englewood. He was also a member of the Lemon Bay Chord Company, Englewood's Men's Barbershop Chorus.
He is survived by his sister, Marjorie Yates of Walpole, Mass.; four children, Pamela B. Finkelstein of Nanuet, N.Y., Arthur V. Boyce Jr. of Yardley, Pa., Martha B. Duffield of Chester Springs, Pa. and David F. Boyce of Nashua, N.H.; and six grandchildren.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date in the summer.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
Delbert W. Stearns
Delbert W. Stearns, 74, of Englewood, Fla., died June 13, 2001, at Bon Secours Venice Hospital.
He was born April 27, 1927, in Sunny Corner, New Brunswick, Canada. He served with the United States Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean Conflict. After living several years in Salem, N.H., he moved to Key West, Fla., where he worked as a truck driver for Tarmac Redi-Mix plant for 15 years before retiring in 1989. He moved from Islamorada to Englewood four and a half years ago. He was a former commander of a VFW Post in Norwood, Mass., and was later a member of the VFW Post in Key West.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara, of Englewood; five step-daughters; Lynne (Roger) VanEck and Theresa (Nicholas) Baker, both of Englewood, Eileen (Fred) Thompson of Wadesworth, Ohio, Nancy (Anthony) Bell of Midland, N.C., and Karen Schworm of Boston Spa, N.Y.; a sister, Louise Hart of Braintree, Mass.; seven step-grandchildren and three great-step-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on June 16, at the Farley Funeral Home, Venice Chapel.

Bryant E. Doherty
Bryant E. Doherty, 47, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Tuesday, June 12, 2001, at Fawcett Memorial Hospital, Port Charlotte.
He was born Sept. 20, 1953, in Arlington, Mass., and moved to this area five years ago from Delray Beach, Fla. He was a carpet installer for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Doherty of Palm Beach, Fla.; a daughter, Brittany Duratti of Peabody, Mass.; his mother, Jean D. Doherty of Punta Gorda, Fla.; a sister, Sandra Koch of Manchester by The Sea, Mass.; two brothers, Kenneth Doherty of Falmouth, Mass., and Glenn Doherty of Newbury, Mass; and a niece, Ivy Koch of Sommerville, Mass.

Billy Jack Simmons
Billy Jack Simmons, 70, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died June 12, 2001, at Bon Secours-St. Joseph Hospital, Port Charlotte.
Born July 21, 1930, in Floodwood, Ohio, he moved to Port Charlotte in 1990 from Athens, Ohio. He was a retired mechanical maintenance supervisor for Appalachian Power and he was retired from the Athens Police Department after 23 years of service. He was a member of the Athens Elks No. 973; the Arcadia Moose Lodge, Arcadia, Fla.; the Fraternal Order of Police in Athens, Ohio; and the Sons of AM Vets.
He is survived by his loving wife, Marian; two sons, Gregory L. (Victoria) Simmons, Sr. of Zolfo Springs, Fla., and Richard (Connie) Simmons of Marysville, Wash.; two daughters, Nancy (Chuck) Westfall of Everett, Wash., and Jackie (Steve) Culp of Kent, Wash.; a brother, Don (Donna) Simmons of New Albany, Ohio; a sister, Donna (Harley) Fiddler of Pickering, Ohio; a brother-in-law and niece, David (Pam VanNest) and Tina Beckett, both of Athens, Ohio; a granddaughter, Teri (John Byrd) Simmons of North Port, Fla.; two grandsons, Gregory L. Simmons, Jr. of Zolfo Springs and Benjamin Eli Simmons of Athens, Ohio; a great-granddaughter, Jasmine Renee Byrd of North Port; and numerous other grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be today from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. with an Elks service following at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Roberson Funeral Home, Port Charlotte Chapel, with the Rev. J. Ralph Burton, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Charlotte Memorial Gardens, Punta Gorda, Fla.

Frances I. Gregory
Frances I. Gregory, 80, of Maryville, Tenn., and formerly a 30 year resident of Arcadia, Fla., died June 11, 2001, at her daughter's residence.
She was born Oct. 16, 1920, in Knox County, Tenn. She attended the Ft. Ogden Baptist Church, Fort Ogden, and was a member of the Dotson Memorial Baptist Church in Maryville. She was a retired certified nursing assistant after working with Charlotte Regional Medical Center, Punta Gorda, Fla., and G. Pierce Wood Memorial Hospital, Arcadia. She was a member of the Woodman of the World.
Survivors include three sons, James (Evvie) Gregory of Arcadia, Thomas (Hope) Gregory of Sixmile, Tenn. and Billy H. (Ruth) Gregory of Elizabethton, Tenn.; three daughters, Vivian (Roy) Marshall of Maryville, Phyllis (Lawrence) Burchfield of Fort Ogden and Janet (Martin) Bustamante of Arcadia; one sister, Betty of New Brunswick, N.J.; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held in Maryville, at a later date. Robarts Funeral Home Inc., Arcadia is in charge of arrangements.
Carolyn Nieto
Carolyn Nieto, 37, of Arcadia, Fla., died June 11, 2001, due to an automobile accident in Arcadia.
She was born Oct. 22, 1963, in McDowell, Ky. She came to Arcadia in 1992 from Juanita, Fla. She was a homemaker and mother and a member of the St. Paul's Catholic Church, Arcadia.
She is survived by her husband of eight years, Jose Nieto; father, Carlie Slone of North Carolina; two sons, Jose Nieto and John (Micaila) Nieto, both of Arcadia; two daughters, Jenniffer Nieto and Laura Nieto, both of Arcadia; two brothers, Paul Slone of Michigan and Curtis Slone of Lakeland, Fla.; two sisters, Linda and Loretta, both of Okeechobee, Fla.; and one grandson, John Nieto Jr.
Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. June 14, at the Robarts Funeral Home Inc., 163 N. Brevard Ave., Arcadia. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. June 15 at the St. Paul's Catholic Church, Arcadia, with Father Stan Pierog officiating. Burial will be in Danish Cemetery, Grant, Michigan.
Hattie Lucille Rife
Hattie Lucille Rife, 77, of Arcadia, Fla., died June 13, 2001, at Vencor Hospital, Tampa, Fla.
She was born Feb. 21, 1924, in Arcadia. She was a life long resident of Arcadia, and a member of the Arcadia Church of the Nazarene. She was a waitress for 24 years at the DeSoto Cafe. She was a volunteer at the Senior Friendship Center, Arcadia.
She is survived by three sons, James O. Earnest, Thomas H. Rife and Richard (Jenny) Sherman, all of Arcadia; and one sister, Maxine Evers of Arcadia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Rife.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. June 15, at the Robarts Funeral Home, Arcadia. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. June 16, at the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Kevin C. Crimmins Sr., officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Arcadia.
Marilyn Matthews
Marilyn Matthews, 62, of Venice, Fla., died May 29, 2001, at her residence.
Born on Dec. 29, 1938, in Norway, Mich., to Edward and Bridgette (DeClark) Palmcook, she had been a resident of Venice for eight years, coming from Escanaba, Mich.
Ms. Matthews attended Norway schools and graduated from Escanaba High School. She was employed as a nurse's aid in home health care. She enjoyed sailing, photography, dancing and scuba diving. She was preceded in death by one brother.
Survivors include two daughters, Kim Fulcher of Gladstone, Mich., and Monica Pogorzelski of Milwaukee, Wis.; two sons, Kevin Matthews of Escanaba, and Monty Matthews of Burnsville, Minn.; her parents, Edward and Bridgette Palmcook of Escanaba, Mich.; two sisters, Nancy Chenier of Escanaba and June Mear of Mankato, Minn.; one brother, David Palmcook of Quinnesec, Mich.; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends today from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the Venice Isles Clubhouse No. 1 in Venice.

Margaret A. Brockmann
Margaret A. Brockmann, 61, of Punta Gorda, Fla., died June 11, 2001, at her residence.
Born March 26, 1940, she moved to the Punta Gorda area in 1973 from Jersey City, N.J. She was a real estate broker.
She is survived by her three sons, George (Stina) Brockmann, Jr. of Tallahassee, Fla., Albert Brockmann of Punta Gorda and Robert (Beth) Brockmann of Harbour Heights, Fla.; three sisters; four brothers; nine grandchildren, Sara, Joshua and Henrie, all of Tallahassee, and Jason, Shawn (Krystale), Amanda, Brittnee, Katie and Katelyn, all of Harbour Heights; one great-grandchild, Deven; and numerous nieces and nephews.
