Mabel K. Miller, 91, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Friday, May 11, 2001, at South Port Nursing Center, Port Charlotte.
Born July 13, 1909 in Chicago, Ill., she moved to Port Charlotte in 1972 from Willmette, Ill. She retired from Chicago Northwestern Railroad after many years of service as a clerk. She was a Lutheran and a member of Punta Gorda Country Club and Isles Yacht Club.
She is survived by a nephew, Charles Nelson, of Plantation, Fla.
Visitation for family and friends will be Tuesday from 10-11 a.m. with funeral services to follow at Roberson Funeral Home, Punta Gorda Chapel. Entombment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Port Charlotte.
Arrangements are by Roberson Funeral Home, Punta Gorda Chapel.
William A. Stearns
William A. Stearns, 45, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died May 8, 2001.
He was born August 20, 1955, in Albany, Ky., and came to Port Charlotte 12 years ago from Louisville, Ky. He was the former owner of William Stearns Barber and Styling in Punta Gorda, Fla. and served in the U.S. Air Force.
He is survived by a brother, David J. Stearns, of Louisville, Ky.; two sisters, Carmen Bartlett and Deborah Byrd, both of Bradenburg, Ky.; and good friends, David Goldstein of Port Charlotte and Vada Goode-McGarvey of Fort Pierce, Fla.; and many, many others.
Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 6 p.m., May 15, 2001 at Paul Schelm Funeral Home, Port Charlotte.

June S. Erskine
June S. Erskine, 80, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died May 10, 2001.
June was originally from Mullins, W. Va. She was an active member of Wintergarden Presbyterian Church and an avid volunteer in the Port Charlotte and Punta Gorda area.
She is survived by her very dear friend, Martha "Mickie" Glorius; her niece, Patricia Erskine Kirby; her grand-niece, Stephanie Kirby Dreyer and family; her two grandnephews, Craig Louis Kirby and family and Andrew Erskine Kirby and family. She was predeceased by her husband, James R. Erskine.
Funeral services will be at 6:30 p.m. May 12, in the chapel of the Kays-Ponger/Royal Palm Funeral Home, Port Charlotte, with the Rev. Kathleen Wiggins, pastor of Wintergarden Presbyterian Church, officiating. Committal services will be at 10 a.m. May 14, at Royal Palm Memorial Gardens, Punta Gorda.
In lieu of flowers, it is requested a donation be made to Hospice of Southwest Florida, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238; or Wintergarden Presbyterian Church Memorial Garden Fund, 18305 Wintergarden Ave., Port Charlotte, FL 33948; or the charity of one's choice.
Anita Owen
Anita Owen, 78, of Punta Gorda, Fla., died May 9, 2001 at the Punta Gorda Life Care Center.
She was born April 27, 1923 in Cottage Grove, Ore. She moved to this area in July of 1999 from Eugene, Ore. Her career as a chef found her working in several dinner clubs in the Janesville and Lake Geneva, Wisc. area, such as Raymonds, LaPods and Selen's. She was an avid artist, who enjoyed painting and ceramics; she loved to garden. She was a member of the Mount Zion Methodist Church in Janesville, Wisc., and was a member of the Eagles Club in Eugene, Ore.
She is survived by her sons, Ron Owen of Richmond, Ind. and Dan Owen of Whitewater, Wisc.; daughters, Carla Huber of Janesville, Katherine Christenson of San Diego, Calif., Sally Wright of Punta Gorda, and Rebecca Hanke of Manitowish Waters, Wisc.; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a brother and two sisters.
A graveside Memorial Service will be at the Oakhill Cemetery in Janesville at a later date. Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services, Punta Gorda, is in charge of arrangements.
Michael A. Yasko
Michael A. Yasko, 82, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died March 16, 2001, at Fawcett Memorial Hospital, Port Charlotte.
He was born Nov. 16, 1918, in Windber, Pa., and has been a winter resident of Port Charlotte for the past 20 years, coming from Barton, Vt. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a retired funeral director and embalmer in Vermont. He was a Methodist by faith.
Michael is survived by his wife of 59 years, Winona C. Yasko of Port Charlotte and Barton; two daughters, Carolyn M. Schwebel of Leonardo, N.J. and Michele A. Young of Huntington, W.Va.; a sister, Olga Molnar of Windber, Pa.
Services and inurnment will be held in Barton. Arrangements are by Roberson Funeral Home & Crematory, Port Charlotte Chapel.
Lawrence W. Beers
Lawrence W. Beers, 85, of Englewood, Fla., died May 8, 2001 in Englewood.
Born Sept. 21, 1915 in Perry, Mich., he moved to our area in 1974 from Houghton Lake, Mich. He retired in 1974 after 38 years with the Olds Forge Plant, a division of General Motors, in Lansing, Mich.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Sylvia Beers; and a son, Lawrence W. Beers, also of Englewood; and one grandchild.
Graveside services will be held in Shaftsburg, Mich. at a later date. Arrangements are by National Cremation Society, Port Charlotte.
Roy F. Brilinski
Roy F. Brilinski, 74, of Rotonda West, Fla., died Thursday, May 10, 2001, at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte, Fla.
Born on Feb. 7, 1927 in Alpena, Mich., to Fred and Mary (Kollien) Brilinski, he had been a resident of Rotonda West for 11 years, coming from Springport, Mich. Mr. Brilinski retired in 1990, after 28 years, from Grand Trunk Railroad in Michigan. Mr. Brilinski was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Merchant Marine. He was of the Lutheran faith. Mr. Brilinski was an avid bowler.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Joyce A. (Simpson) of Rotonda West; two daughters, Kathy Frech of Bristol, Ind. and Sandy Gravely of Tacoma, Wash.; four sisters, Ruth Dodge of Sebewaing, Mich., Viola St. Charles of Sebewaing, Mich., Marion Sauve of Caseville, Mich. and Florence Stilson of Pontiac, Mich.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Charles H. Le Fevre
Charles H. Le Fevre, 68, of Rotonda West, Fla., passed away in Tamarac, Fla., May 3, 2001.
He was born May 26, 1932, in Detroit, Mich., and moved here in 1991 from Troy, Mich. He was the owner of Bar Park Junction in Grosse Pointe Park, Mich. Charles was also an auctioneer for Le Fevre's Associates in Detroit, and locally he worked for Sam's Club in outside sales.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Gertrude (Dion) of Port Charlotte; and one daughter, Kimberly (Ricardo) LeFevre-Perales.
There will be a memorial gathering from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. May 12, at the Kays-Ponger Funeral Home, Port Charlotte Chapel.

Gerald C. Carpenter
Gerald C. Carpenter, 76 of North Port, Fla., died Tuesday, May 8, 2001 at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte.
He was born in Syracuse, N.Y. and came to this area 20 years ago from Waterford, Conn. He served in the Marines during World War II and retired from law enforcement as a sheriff. Mr. Carpenter was a member of the American Legion Post No. 110 ; Elks Lodge Chapter No. 2153, and St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, all of Port Charlotte.
He is survived by his son, Wayne C. Carpenter of Madison, Conn.; three daughters, Maureen A. Clark of Stonington, Conn., Melanie A. Berry of New London, Conn., and Susan M. Carpenter of Griswold, Conn.; and five grandchildren.

Aileen E. Hankison
Aileen E. Hankison, 84, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Tuesday, May 8, 2001, at IHS of Port Charlotte.
She was born Aug. 9, 1916 in Nelsonville, Ohio and moved to Port Charlotte in 1984 from Dayton, Ohio. She was a small parts worker with Monsanto Corp. and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Tamara and John Haymaker of Dayton, Ohio; a sister, Wilma Wachenschwanz of Dayton, Ohio; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hiram Eugene Hankison in 1976; a son, Hiram Rex Hankison; and brother, Dr. Charles Patton.

Barena R. Jackson
Barena R. Jackson, 62, of Port Charlotte passed away May 8, 2001.
She was born Aug. 17, 1938 in Ona, Fla. She moved to this area in 1945 and worked as a cosmetologist for various local salons. She was a member of First Baptist Church Port Charlotte. She was a loving daughter, mother, and grandmother.
She is survived by her mother Lillie Rainey of Port Charlotte; her daughter, Lea (Mike) Liechty of Sarasota; and grandchildren Kimberly and Gillian Liechty of Sarasota.
The family will receive visitors from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. May 10, 2001 at Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services. Burial will be 11:30 am May 11 at Bowling Green Methodist Church Cemetery, Bowling Green, Fla.

Ronald LeRoy, 55, of Lake Suzy, Fla., died May 5, 2001, at Tampa General Hospital, Tampa, Fla.
Ronald was born in Olean, N.Y., and came to this area from there four years ago. He was a chef. Ronald was a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include sons, Edward LeRoy of Olean, Ronald Leroy Jr. of Port Charlotte, Fla.; a daughter, Tina LeRoy Daigle of North Carolina; brothers, James LeRoy of Venice, Fla., Joseph LeRoy of Sacramento, Calif. and Gregory LeRoy of Denver, Colo.
A Roman Catholic Mass will be at 11 a.m. May 12, at St. John Church in Olean.
Betty I. Marlow
Betty I. Marlow, 77, of Punta Gorda, Florida died Wed., May 9, 2001 at Charlotte Regional Medical Center, Punta Gorda.
She was born July 22, 1923 in Lockport, N.Y., and moved to Punta Gorda in 1975 from Sarasota, Fla. She was a member of the Tatum Ridge Baptist Church and Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 66 both of Sarasota.
She is survived by a son, James R. (Anne) Carrel of Punta Gorda; a sister, Lorraine Morris of Lockport, N.Y.; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Reginald J. Marlow who died in 1994.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Roberson Funeral Home Punta Gorda Chapel, 215 Mary St. Interment will follow at Old Miakka Cemetery, Sarasota. Arrangements by Roberson Funeral Home Punta Gorda Chapel.
Ronald S. Mercurio
Ronald "Ron" S. Mercurio, 60, of Punta Gorda, Fla., died Monday, May 7, 2001, at Bon Secours-St. Joseph Hospital in Port Charlotte, Fla.
Born Aug. 16, 1940, in Newark, N.J., he moved to this area 10 years ago from Lake Worth, Fla. A Radiological Engineer, he worked many years with Southwest Florida Imaging and area hospitals. Serving with the U.S. Military Peace Time Forces, U.S. Navy, he developed a love of the sea and air, and enjoyed both flying and boating. He was a member of Deep Creek San Antonio Catholic Church, Port Charlotte.
Survivors include his beloved fiancée, Mei Fawu, daughters, Anna M. Golden of Jupiter, Fla., Ronnie L. Busha of Grand Forks Air Force Base, N.D., and Theresa M. Wilber of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., sister, Lucille A. Mercurio of Hollywood, Fla., brother, Charles D. Mercurio of Myrtle Beach, S.C., four granddaughters, and one nephew.
Visitation for family and friends will be this Friday, May 11, 2001, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 12, at Roberson Funeral Home of Punta Gorda, with the Rev. Christopher Senk of San Antonio Catholic Church officiating. The U.S. Navy will provide funeral honors.

Adilia Mittasch
Adilia Mittasch, 54, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died April 24, 2001 in Costa Rica after a brief illness.
She was born June 20, 1946 in Costa Rica and moved to Port Charlotte in 1995 from Flemington, N.J. She was a former housekeeper at Arbors at Port Charlotte and a Roman Catholic.
She is survived by her husband, Ernest J. Mittasch of Port Charlotte; a step-daughter, Sherry Ann Mittasch Hagerty of Valparaiso, Ind.; a step-son, Ernest J. Mittasch II of New Jersey; her mother, Virignia Gonzales Serrano; nine sisters and four brothers, all of Costa Rica.
Funeral services and burial were held in Costa Rica. Arrangements by Roberson Funeral Home, Port Charlotte Chapel.
Claude C. Norton Jr.
Claude C. Norton Jr., 86, of Punta Gorda, Fla., formerly of Miami, Fla., passed away May 7, 2001, in Punta Gorda.
He was born Sept. 23, 1914, in Indianapolis, Ind. He worked for Wometco Entertainment of Miami for 50 years, before retiring. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army. he will be remembered for his love of music and photography.
He is survived by two sons, Claude C. Norton III of Punta Gorda and Robert K. Norton of Stone Mountain, Ga.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Arrangements are by the Neptune Society, Cremation and Burial at Sea, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
