Cecil Jackson Gable

Cecil Jackson Gable, 68, of Venice, Fla., died on April 24, 2001, in Venice.

He was born on Sept. 16, 1932, in Live Oak, Fla., and moved to Englewood, Fla., at age 12. He came back to Venice after living in Fort Rucker, Ala. He was in the Venice High School Class of 1951. He was a prisoner of war in Korea for 33 months and 22 days and a Vietnam Veteran for the U.S. Army. In 1970, when he retired as an Air Traffic Controller for the U.S. Army, he had completed 20 years of service. He was a member of Florida P.O.W., National P.O.W. Club, D.A.V. and Retired Enlisted Man's Association.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Gable; sons Alan, of Venice, and John, from Hartford City, Ind.; brother, Eugene Hovek, from Ocala, Fla.; sisters Christine Edwards, of Perry, Fla. and Julie Yenson, of Madison, Fla.; six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

The family will receive visitors at the Farley Funeral Home, Venice Chapel, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday. Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Farley Funeral Home, Venice Chapel. Burial will be at Venice Memorial Gardens. Farley Funeral Home, Venice Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.

James R. Honisko

James R. Honisko, 73, of Port Charlotte, Florida, died April 13, 2001 at his residence.

He moved to this area in 1994 from Toledo, Ohio and had worked as a Metal Spinner before retiring. He was an avid Extra Class WO8M Ham Radio Operator.

He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, the Port Charlotte Elks Lodge 2153, the Moose Lodge and the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Honisko of Port Charlotte, Fla.; daughter, Sandra (Robert) Young of Perrysburg, Ohio; son, Richard (Mary) Honisko of Toledo, Ohio; grandchildren, Matthew (Jill) Young and Nathan Young, both of Perrysburg, Ohio; Andrea, Marcia and Eric Honisko all of Toledo, Ohio; one great-grandchild, Paige Young of Perrysburg, Ohio; a Sister, Jean (Harold) Pelc of Perrysburg, Ohio.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 27 at at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Port Charlotte.

Memorial Donations in memory of James may be made to Hospice of Southwest Florida, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, Fla. 34238. Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements.

Leonard Warren Keer

Leonard Warren Keer, 66, of Port Charlotte, went to be with the Lord on April 20, 2001.

He was born in Nassau County, Long Island, New York, on March 11, 1935. He married Nancy-Lou Ailman on Sept. 11, 1955 on Long Island, and was blessed with four loving children: Leonard Douglas, Susan Beth, Jill Caroline, and Laurel Jean; and by 12 grandchildren: Erik, Christin, Sean, Karen, Tim, Mark, Alyssa, Kacey, Tyler, Kyle, Ashley, and Ross. He is also survived by his brother Kirk and his Family.

Lenny will also be lovingly remembered by Debby, whom he married in 1990, as well as her daughters Meryl and Wendy and Wendy's children Nicole and Rocky.

Lenny and Debby came to reside in the Palm Shores area of Punta Gorda. Together they opened Eagle's Pet Store in Deep Creek in June of 1990. His warmth and devotion endeared him to his customers. For the past three years, he really enjoyed talking with the customers at Publix in Port Charlotte where he worked. He touched more lives than we could possibly know -- he will be missed.

Arrangements are by Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services.

Myrtle M. Reynaert

Myrtle M. Reynaert, 81, of Cadillac, Mich., and Punta Gorda, Fla., died Sunday, April 22, 2001, at Charlotte Regional Medical Center in Punta Gorda.

Born April 14, 1920 in Detroit, Michigan to the late George & Theresa (nee Zippert) Lenz, she has been a winter resident of Punta Gorda since 1989, residing in Cadillac, Michigan, and was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, Cadillac, Mich.

Her husband of 59 and one-half years, Albert H. Reynaert, survives her as do three children, daughter, Valerie Ferrera of Clinton Township, Mich., sons, Albert H. Reynaert Jr. of Manistee, Mich. and Gary A. Reynaert of Clinton Township, Mich., a sister, Bernice Knop of West Bloomfield, Mich., three brothers, George Lenz Jr. of Berkley, Mich., Marvin Lenz of Roseville, Mich., and Kenneth Lenz of Utica, Mich., and four grandchildren.

A memorial service followed by inurnment will be held in Cadillac, Michigan at a later date. Arrangements are with Roberson Funeral Home & Crematory, Punta Gorda Chapel.

Frederick H. Sherman

Frederick Henry Sherman, of 2164 Harbor Blvd., Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Thursday April 19, 2001, after a courageous struggle with many illnesses.

He was born to Henry and Thelma (Giffey) Sherman on Oct. 13, 1940. He was a loving husband and father. Fred was of the Methodist faith. He was employed at General Motors and retired from there in 1995. He belonged to the United Auto Workers 95 in Janesville, Wis.; and then United Auto Workers 2209 in Fort Wayne, Ind.

He was an avid auto racing enthusiast and loved living in Florida. He married Kathleen (Murphy) Schubring on July 9, 1986. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen, his children Myrna J. (Gary) Muhasky, of Jefferson, Wis., Melody L. (Steve) Saylor, Fort Wayne, Ind., Megan Elizabeth (Terrence J.) Mullen of Itasca (suburban Chicago), Monty of Jefferson, Wis., and Michael (Jessica) of Jacksonville, Fla. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Hiedi Muhasky, Alexandrea and Aaron Sherman, and Destinee and Kyle Mullen; his brothers Edward "Ted" (Joan) Sherman of Belvidere, Ill., Lyle (Linda) Sherman of Poplar Grove, Ill. Jack (Bernadette) Sherman, Plainfield, Wis., Ronald Harvey (Terry) Sherman of Bancroft, Wis., Dale Sherman of Almond, Wis., and Pete (Frederick) Prentice of Tomahawk, Wis.; his sisters, Nola Sullivan of Wild Rose, Wis., Myra (Cal Zwetz) Wallner of Hancock, Wis., and Nancy Ostrander of Plainfield, Wis.; his aunt, Nora Pichelman whose wonderful letters gave Fred so much hope, and Aunt Beulah Johanssen; and nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Wisconsin. God bless his special, loving, caring angel whom he loved so very much. Arrangements by Kays-Ponger Royal Palm Funeral Home.

James Vaughn

James Vaughn, 45, of Port Charlotte, Fla. died April 23, 2001 at Fawcett Memorial Hospital, Port Charlotte.

He was born March 16, 1956 in Covington, Ky. He moved to Port Charlotte in 1994 from Walton, Ky. He worked as a carpenter in the construction industry. He was a member of the Beaverlick Baptist Church in Union, Kentucky. He was predeceased by his father, the Rev. Gerald Vaughn.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Vaughn of Port Charlotte, Fla.; mother, Phyllis (John) Tungate of Punta Gorda, Fla.; brothers, Steve Vaughan of Florence, Ky. and Mark Vaughn of Elsmere, Ky.; sister, Becky (Ron) Stolz of Florence, Ky.; niece, Sarah Vaughn of Cincinnati, Ohio; nephews, Matthew Vaughn of Cincinnati, Ohio, Trenton Stolz and Derrick Stolz, both of Florence, Ky.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 24 at the First Baptist Church of Charlotte Harbor, 4506 Church Street, Port Charlotte, Fla.

Memorial Donations in memory of James, may be made to the First Baptist Church of Charlotte Harbor's General Fund. Arrangements are by Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services, Punta Gorda, Fla.

Hugo T. Von Walsleben

Hugo T. "Ted" Von Walsleben, 74, of Port Charlotte, Florida died Monday, April 23, 2001 at Hospice House of Port Charlotte.

He was born April 12, 1927 in Flushing, N.Y., and moved to Port Charlotte 30 years ago from Bayville, Nassau County, N.Y. He was a retired detective for the Nassau County Police Department. Member of Charlotte County Lodge No. 2153, B.P.O.E. and a veteran of World War II, U.S. Navy.

Survived by his wife, Nancy L. Williams of Port Charlotte; a daughter, Jane Marie Bickford of Sevierville, Tenn.; a stepdaughter, Lucinda L. Krause of Detroit, Mich.; three stepsons, John Williams of Mt. Clemens, Mich., Dwight D. Williams of Keego Harbor, Mich., and Thomas A. Williams of Clinton Township, Mich.; a sister, Gail Moran of Peru, NY; two grandchildren, Laurne Bickford and Mathew Bickford.

Memorial services will be held 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2001 at Roberson Funeral Home Port Charlotte Chapel. Elks Lodge No. 2153 will officiate. Memorial Contributions may be made to Hospice of Southwest Florida, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238. Arrangements by Roberson Funeral Home Port Charlotte Chapel.

Edward Beverley Alber

Edward Beverley Alber, 85 of Englewood died Sunday, April 22, 2001 at his residence.

Born on July 22, 1915 in New York City to Joseph and Virginia (Lawrence) Alber he has been a resident of Englewood for twenty-three years coming from Vienna, Virginia. Mr. Alber retired from the U.S. Army in Washington, D.C., after nearly 30 years in Topographic Command. He retired in 1975. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, a retired major with the U.S. Army Reserve and a member of The Retired Officers Association. He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Parish.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Paule-Andree Alber of Englewood, Fla.; one daughter, Anne Elizabeth Alber-Nowland of Miami, Fla.; two sons, Edward Paul Alber of Stone Mountain, Ga.; Philip Theodose Alber of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and five grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 26 at St. Francis of Assisi Parish with Father Bart Larkin officiating. Burial will be in Florida National Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2100 S. Tamiami Trail, Venice, FL 34293 in memory of Mr. Alber. Englewood Community Funeral Home has been selected to handle arrangements.

James D. Emmett

James D. Emmett, 62, of North Port, Fla., died Saturday, April 21, 2001 at Fawcett Memorial Hospital, Port Charlotte, Fla.

He was born on June 14, 1938 in Lansing, Mich., to Lawrence and Lena Schram Emmett. He came here 21 years ago from Perkiomenville, Pa. He was a Lutheran. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in Germany. He was a clerk for Dollar General. He was past Commander of the National Order of Trench Rats District 8, and a member and past Commander of the Venice/Nokomis Chapter of Disabled American Veterans and Adjutant for many years.

He is survived by his wife Barbara (Detwiler) Emmett of North Port, Fla., sons J. Douglas Emmett of Perkiomenville, Pa, Thomas L. Emmett of Collegeville, Pa., and Edward D. Emmett of Perkasie, Pa., a daughter Tammy L. Peters of Clearwater, Fla., his mother Lena Emmett of Englewood, Fla., a brother Jack Emmett of Placida, Fla.; and 11 grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother Larry Emmett and 1 grandchild.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 26, 2001, at the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 101, 600 S. Colonia Lane, Nokomis, Fla. Inurnment will be in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Fla.

Eveyln Hannah

Eveyln Hannah, 72, of Arcadia, Fla., passed away April 22, 2001, in Arcadia.

She was born May 16, 1928, in Plant City, Fla., and had been a resident of Arcadia for 48 years, coming from Brandon, Fla. She retired from G. Pierce Wood Memorial Hospital as a medical aide, and was a member of the Church of the Nazarene, Arcadia.

She is survived by three sons, Ronnie (Vivien) Hannah, Austin E. Hannah Jr., and Jimmy Hannah, all of Arcadia; one brother, Roy Alvin Mabry of Brandon, 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Austin Earl Hannah Sr.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, at the Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home, 50 N. Hillsboro Ave., Arcadia. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. April 25 at the Church of the Nazarene, Arcadia. The Rev. Kevin Crimmins will officiate. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Arcadia. Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mary V. Maloney

Mary V. Maloney of Port Charlotte, Fla., died April 11, 1999, at Bon Secours-St. Joseph Hospital.

She was born Aug. 29, 1917, in Quincy, Ill. She retired from the FBI and was a founding member of Kingsway Country Club.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. April 24 at St. Charles Church. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Southwest Florida, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238.

Alvilta N. Thomas

Alvilta N. Thomas, 69, of Sarasota, Fla., died April 20, 1999, in Venice, Fla.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. April 23 at Farley Funeral Home, Venice chapel. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. April 24 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Jesse Knight Cemetery in Nokomis, Fla.

Harold J. Read

Harold James Read, 88, of Grove City, Fla., died April 19, 1999, at his residence.

Arrangements are by Englewood Community Funeral Home.

Donald E. Shockey

Lt. Col. Donald E. Shockey, 82, of Rotonda West, Fla., died April 21, 1999, in Bon Secours-Venice Hospital in Venice, Fla.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. April 25 at the Hahn Funeral Home, 1104 Columbia St., Lafayette, Ind. Call (765) 742-7873. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. April 26 at St. Boniface Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Boniface Cemetery. Local arrangements are by Farley Funeral Home, Englewood.

John M. Blair

John M. Blair, 68, of Nocatee, Fla., passed away April 6, 1999, at Tampa General Hospital, Tampa.

Memorial service was held April 16 at Nocatee Church of God, Nocatee. There were military Honors by DeSoto County Honor Guard. The Rev. John Spratlin officiated. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Nocatee Church of God, P.O. Box 250, Nocatee, FL 34268. Arrangements are by Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home, Arcadia.

Vernon F. Flegle

The Rev. Vernon F. Flegle, 72, of Haines City, Fla., died April 21, 1999.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. April 23 at Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home, Arcadia. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. April 24 at Arcadia First Baptist Church, Arcadia. Burial will be Saturday at Oak Ridge Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Brownsville Baptist Church, 7015 N.E. U.S. 17, Arcadia, FL 34266. Arrangements are by Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home, Arcadia.

Catherine Reddoch Faires

Catherine Reddoch Faires, died Jan. 13, 2000, at the Queen of the Valley Hospital in Napa Valley, Calif., from the complications of a broken hip.

Catherine and her husband of 55 years, Theodore, were residing in Napa to be close to their only child, William B. Faires. Catherine was born in Tennil, Ala., on Feb. 11, 1918. She was raised and graduated from high school in Brundidge, Ala. Catherine was a graduate of Troy State University in Troy, Ala., with a degree in elementary education. Catherine and Theodore Faires were married in Fort Smith, Ark., on Jan. 2, 1945. Upon Theodore's return from Europe in the fall of 1945, they moved to his home town of Alva, Okla., where they lived until 1952, when they moved to Kansas. Catherine taught third-grade in several Kansas school systems from 1952 until her retirement from the Olathe, Kan., school system in 1982. In 1985 Catherine and Theodore moved to Punta Gorda, Fla. They still maintain a home here in the Eagle Point subdivision. While in Florida she belonged to several fraternal and civic organizations; American Legion, B.P.O.E. Elks, bridge club and National Education Association. She also attended Friendship United Methodist Church in Punta Gorda.

Catherine is survived by her husband, Theodore of Punta Gorda; her son, William of Napa; a sister, Doris Adams of Montgomery, Ala.; a brother, Bill Reddoch of Mariana, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. April 25, in the Chapel of Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home, Punta Gorda, with the Rev. Ron DeGenaro of the Friendship United Methodist Church officiating. Her urn will be placed at the Charlotte Memorial Gardens prior to the Memorial service.
