Sarah Ann Lee, 55, of Miami, Fla., died March 18, 2002, at Cedars Medical Center in Miami.
Born March 29, 1946, in Punta Gorda, Fla., Sarah left Punta Gorda after graduating from Dunbar High School, Fort Myers, to attend Florida Memorial College in Miami. There she earned a degree in education and resided in Miami teaching elementary grades in Dade County for 28 years, the last 20 years with Everglades Elementary School in Miami. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her son, Matthew Joseph Lee of Miami; mother, Sarah Wiley of Punta Gorda; sister, Joyce Goshay of Punta Gorda; two brothers, Roy Wiley of Punta Gorda and Dr. Bennie Wiley of Miramar, Fla.; five nieces; two nephews; and a host of cousins and friends. Preceding her in death was her father, Bennie Lee Wiley.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday, March 23, at St. Mary's Primitive Baptist Church, 605 Mary St., Punta Gorda. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., also at the church. Interment will follow at Royal Palm Memorial Gardens, Punta Gorda. Arrangements by Barrett-Frayar Funeral Home, Miami.
Michael J. Popovitch
Michael J. Popovitch, 63, of Port Charlotte, Fla., formerly of Brick, N.J., died March 14 at his home in Port Charlotte.
He served as a New Jersey State Trooper and retired in 1993 as a lieutenant after a 31-year career. He continued serving the public as an investigator for the New Jersey State Department for two years. He served in the Air Force from 1957 to 1961. During his retirement, he became active in the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 66, the Retired Law Enforcement Officers Association, American Legion Post No. 110, Moose Lodge No. 2121, and the AMVETS of NJ/FL, all in Port Charlotte. A dedicated police officer and an excellent father, he was also an avid fisherman and cook and will be missed by all. Born in Dover, N.J., he was a 30-year resident of Brick Township before moving to Florida in 1997.
He was predeceased by his wife, Nancy Bennett Popovitch in 1993. He is survived by four sons, Louis Moglia of Virginia Beach, Va., Scott Moglia of Las Animas, Colo., Michael Popovitch Jr. of Spring Lake, N.J., and Leigh Popovitch of Portland, Ore.; a daughter, Melissa Osmun of Neptune, N.J.; two brothers, James Popovitch of Schooleys Mountain, N.J., and Jack Popovitch of Dover; and his companion, Kay Nealey of Port Charlotte.
Relatives and friends are invited to call from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 23, at the Johnson-McGinley Funeral Home, Route 138, Wall Township, N.J. An American Legion Service will commence at 2:45 p.m., followed by a funeral service to be offered 3 p.m. Saturday, March 23, at the funeral home. Interment is private. Full military services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 26, at American Legion Post No. 110 in Port Charlotte.

Phyllis L. Simborg
Phyllis L. Simborg, 77, of Punta Gorda, Fla., died March 17, 2002.
She was born Feb. 10, 1925, in Hammond, Ind., to the late Morris and Marie (Hess) Simborg. She came to this area in 1988 from Miami, Fla. She earned her degree at the University of Missouri Journalism School. She worked for many years as a copywriter in the advertising field, working in Texas and New York, and later owned her own ad agency and also worked in real estate while in Miami. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Punta Gorda, Seminole Lakes Country Club, and the Charlotte Players. She also volunteered with the Cancer Society and the Punta Gorda Library.
Phyllis will be greatly missed by her cousin, Bob Hess of Punta Gorda; and several other second and third cousins.
A service in celebration of Phyllis' life will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 22, at Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services. The family requests memorial donations be made to First United Methodist Church Punta Gorda Building Fund. Arrangements are by Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services.
Ruth Tobey
Ruth Tobey, 85, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away March 18, 2002.
Born Dec. 29, 1916, in Newberry, Mich., she moved to our area in 1978 from Northville, Mich. She retired as a medical secretary.
She is survived by her husband, Burton W. Tobey; daughters, Diane R. (Silo) Rodriguez of Dimondale, Mich., and Cheryl J. Kelly of Port Charlotte; sons, James B. (Susan) Tobey of West Islip, N.Y., Ronald D. (Mary Ann) Tobey of Garden City, Mich., and Charles D. (Suzanne) Tobey of Ortonville, Mich,; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 21, at Freedom Bible Church of Port Charlotte.

Ernestine J. Hamric
Ernestine June Hamric, 76, of North Port, Fla., died on March 18, 2002.
She was born July 9, 1925, in Clarksburg, W.Va. She moved to this area in 1982 from Columbus, Ohio. She was a beautician with the Chicago Beauty Shop in Morgantown, W.Va., retiring in 1951.
She is survived by her husband, George Hamric of North Port; a son, George Michael Hamric of North Port; a daughter, Joan Carol Hamric-Surgett of Columbus; three brothers, Andrew "Bud" Moore of Grafton, W.Va., Robert (Carol) Moore of Carrollton, W.Va., and Ray (Delores) Moore of Leesburg, W.Va.; a sister, Jean Marsh of Philippi, W.Va.; an aunt, Arlice Coffman of Philippi; many nieces and nephews and friends. She was predeceased by a daughter, Linda Lou Hamric; and a sister, Mary Jane Glass.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, March 22, at Farley Funeral Home, North Port Chapel, North Port. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 23, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Venice Memorial Gardens.
Ruth E. Wade
Ruth Eileen (McGovern) Wade, 83, of North Port, Fla., and Port Wade, Nova Scotia, died peacefully at her North Port home on March 19, 2002, and went home to be with God.
Ruth was born on Aug. 4, 1918, the eldest daughter of James and Florence (Robertson) McGovern of Lynn, Mass. She was a graduate of Lynn English High School class of 1935. Ruth met Ken, newly arrived from Nova Scotia, while teaching Sunday School at St. Paul's Methodist Church in Lynn. They were married there June 14, 1942. Ruth worked at General Electric Co., Riverworks Plant, until their first child was born. She was a resident of Lynnfield, Mass., for 44 years, and a member of the Lynnfield Congregational Church, a Girl Scout Leader, and neighborhood chairman and member of the Business and Professional Women's Club. She was a member of the Woman's Club in Lynnfield and Homestead, Fla., for a total of 50 years, holding many offices and serving as president in Lynnfield. She retired from the Internal Revenue Service, Andover, Mass., and was a member of NARFE. For the next 20 years, she divided her time between South Florida and Nova Scotia, where she loved to paint landscapes, flowers and her family. She and Ken were members of First Methodist Church of Homestead until Hurricane Andrew caused them to relocate to North Port, where they were members of the Christ United Methodist Church in Venice.
She will be greatly missed by her loving husband, Norman Kenmure Wade; son and daughter-in-law, David and Clara Wade; daughter, Roberta Wade, and daughter and son-in-law, Deborah Wade and Bob Breen; grandchildren, Glenn and David Wade, Patrick and Michael Breen; great-grandchildren, Evan and Cameron Wade; and sisters, Dorothy Doyle of Sun City West, Ariz., and Jean Chiary of Vero Beach, Fla.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, March 22, at the James A. McKee Funeral Homes, 14538 S. Tamiami Trail, North Port. A memorial service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 23, at Christ United Methodist Church, 1475 Center Road, Venice.

Jack J. Ortolani
Jack J. Ortolani, 83, of Fayetteville, N.Y., passed away at his home Saturday, March 18, 2006.
He was born Nov. 18, 1922, in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Jack was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus as a Grand Knight, VFW and Elks Club in Herkimer, N.Y., and Port Charlotte, Fla. He was the owner and operator of Jacks Jewelers as a jeweler and watchmaker in Herkimer.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Michelina Ortolani, in 1986.
He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Anna (Rice) Ortolani; son, Alfred (Barbara) Ortolani, of Long Island, N.Y.; daughter, Susan (James) Blasting of Fayetteville, N.Y.; five grandchildren; two brothers, Alfred Ortolani of New Jersey and Robert Ortolani of Florida; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, in Port Charlotte, at a later date.

MaryLou (Leek) "Grandma Lou" Radil, 49, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2006.
She was born Jan. 9, 1957, in Millville, N.J.
MaryLou moved to Port Charlotte in 1975. She worked for many years for the Charlotte County School Board at the Punta Gorda Middle School Champs Café.
She will be greatly missed by her loving family, including husband, Michael Radil Sr.; sons, Mike Jr., Tony and Blake Radil; father, Howard Leek of Chicago, Ill.; brother, Howard (Sheri) Leek of Illinois; sisters, Bonnie Jack of Texas, Karen (Greg) Hardesty and Kathy Leek, both of Florida; grandchildren, Jonathan, Matya, Milana, Mallory and Madison; brothers-in-law, Anthony (Heather) Radil and William (Denise) Radil; aunt, Shirley Mettetal of New Jersey; and many nieces and nephews.
The family invites friends to join them in a celebration of MaryLou's life from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, March 25, 2006, at Bissett Park in Tropical Gulf Acres, Punta Gorda.

Heather McDonald, 24, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2002, in Punta Gorda.
Heather was born April 25, 1977, in Cadillac, Mich. She had resided in Punta Gorda with her parents since moving here from Cadillac.
Survivors include her parents, Kevin and Carol McDonald; a sister, Courtney McDonald, and a brother, Kevin W. McDonald, both of Punta Gorda; her grandmother, Elizabeth Schweda of Port Charlotte, Fla.; uncles, Jerry Vairo Sr. of Port Charlotte and Louis Vairo Jr. of Colorado Springs, Colo.; aunts, Lee Vairo of Port Charlotte and Lorraine King of Massapequa, Long Island, N.Y.; cousins, Jerry Vairo Jr., Gloria Vairo, Jimmy Vairo and Josh Vairo, all of Port Charlotte, Brian Vairo, and Greg Vairo, both of Colorado Springs, Bill King and Amanda King, both of Oneco, Fla.; and a dear friend, Floyd Miles.

Elizabeth F. McKeown, 83, of Punta Gorda, Fla., formerly of Narberth, Pa., died Thursday, March 14, 2002, at Charlotte Regional Medical Center in Punta Gorda.
She is survived by her brother, Dr. John J. McKeown Jr. of Wynnewood, Pa., and her sister, Kathryne M. Smyth of Punta Gorda.

Orvene Anna Zimbelman
Orvene Anne "Sally" Zimbelman, 80, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2002. Formerly of Oregon, Ill., she had resided here since 1983.
Mrs. Zimbelman enjoyed painting and sewing. Surviving are her husband of 59 years, Richard E. Zimbelman; three children, Stephen R. (Patricia) Zimbelman of Rockford, Ill., Gary A. (Harriett) Zimbelman of Oregon, Ill. and Jean A. Peen of Mt. Morris, Ill.; two sisters, Delores Orzechowski of Milwaukee, Wis. and Germaine Steffan of Greenfield, Wis.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial Mass will celebrate her life at 10:15 a.m. Monday, March 18, 2002 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 2500 Easy St., Port Charlotte.

Herb Bauck, 62, of Englewood, Fla., died Thursday, March 14, 2002, at his residence.
Born on Sept. 13, 1939, in Camden, N.J., to Herbert and Ruth (Schuman) Bauck, he had been a resident of Englewood for three years coming form St. Petersburg, Fla.
Mr. Bauck was the owner of American Sun Roof in St. Petersburg, Fla., and after moving to Englewood he was the owner of Plaza Storage in El Jobean.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn M. Bauck of Englewood, Fla.; mother, Ruth Bauck of Haddon Heights, N.J.; one son, Jason Bauck of Englewood; stepdaughter, Shaneen Hilligenn of El Jobean, Fla.; stepson, Clint Maxwell of Vancouver, Canada; one sister, Margaret Chevalier of Haddon Heights, N.J.; two brothers, Michael Bauck of Marlton, N.J., and Richard Bauck of South Hampton, N.J.; and one grandson.
Family will receive friends at the residence, 1000 Lee St., Englewood, on Tuesday, March 19 after 1 p.m.

Delores J. Ludwigsen, 59, of Arcadia, Fla., died Friday, March 15, 2002, at her residence.
She was born Jan. 15, 1943, in For Myers, Fla., and was a lifelong resident of Arcadia. She was a behavioral program specialist working at the Gulf Coast Center in Fort Myers, and for 20 years was a psychiatric aide at G. Pierce Wood Memorial Hospital in Arcadia. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who enjoyed gardening and crocheting.
She is survived by her husband, C. William Ludwigsen of Arcadia; two sons, Dan (wife, Gina) Hannah of Fort Myers and Wesley Hannah of Arcadia; two daughters, Wendy (husband, Willie) Langdon of Bradenton, Fla., and Sandy (husband, Mike) Casady of Arcadia; a sister, Ruby (husband, Russell) Harrison of Zolfo Springs, Fla.; three brothers, Orval R. (wife, Grace) Cobb of Arcadia, Wilbur M. (wife, Deloris) Cobb of Zolfo Springs and James E. Cobb of Arcadia; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

June Joyce Ross, 69, of Punta Gorda, Fla., and Neenah, Wis., died Saturday, March 12, 2005, in Venice, Fla.
She was born July 18, 1935, in Mosinee, Wis.
Mrs. Ross was a resident of Neenah, and wintered in Punta Gorda for the past 14 years. She was employed in the food service industry, and worked in the Winnebago State Mental Hospital in Winnebago, Wis., for 23 years.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth of Punta Gorda and Neenah; daughters, Debra Burrows of Appleton, Wis., Susan Houle of Neenah and Mary Young of Oshkosh, Wis.; sons, Michael Ross and Bryan Ross, both of Neenah; brothers, Rich Rohde of Cane Bed, Ariz., Terry Rohde of Wausau, Wis., Dan Rohde of Callis, Maine, Harry Rohde of Neenah, and Rodney Rohde and Bob Rohde, both of Mosinee; and sisters, Lana Sopel of Neenah and Dawn Chartrand of Appleton.
