Warren Adams

Warren Adams, 70, of Rotonda West, Fla., died March 2, 2000.

Born Feb. 5, 1930, in Middletown, Ohio, he moved to this area in 1986 from Trenton, Ohio. He retired after 30 years as a machine operator for A.K. Steel in Middletown. Mr. Adams served in the Army during the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara; sons, Jeffrey and Russell, both of Middletown; and grandson, Russell Adams Jr. of Middletown. He was predeceased by his sister, Rissie Wilson.

There will be no services. Memorial donations may be made to Suncoast Humane Society, 6781 San Casa Drive, Englewood, FL 34224. Arrangements are by National Cremation Society, Port Charlotte.

Bertha H. Fraulini

Bertha H. Fraulini, 67, of Englewood, Fla., died Feb. 28, 2000, at home.

She was born Jan. 20, 1933, in Chicago, to Willy C. and Bertha M. Wunner Wachsmuth. She came to this area 10 years ago from Highland Park, Ill. She was a member of St. Raphael's Church, Englewood. She worked for the telephone company in Illinois. She was a volunteer for Hospice and FISH in Englewood. She taught Catholic education at St. Raphael's. She made porcelain dolls and painted with water colors.

Survivors include her husband, Egidio of Englewood; sister, Christa A. Kaiser of Vernon Hills, Ill.; nephew, Richard J. Kaiser Jr. of Crystal Lake, Ill.; and a niece, Kristin R. Allen of Cookeville, Tenn.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. March 6 at St. Raphael's Church, 770 Kilbourne Ave., Englewood, officiated by Pastor Thomas J. Walsh. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Hospice of Southwest Florida, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238, would be appreciated. Arrangements are by James A. McKee Funeral Homes, North Port.

Jack R. Geist

Jack R. Geist, 84, of Englewood, Fla., died March 2, 2000.

He was born Aug. 18, 1916, in Johnstown, Pa., and came to this area 13 years ago from Havertown, Pa. He was an engineer with the Aerospace Group of the Boeing Company for 26 years. Mr. Geist also was the Ready Assessment manager for the Apollo Tie Program. He was an honorary member of the Royal Order of Jesters in Philadelphia, the Lu Lu Shrine Temple in Philadelphia, Englewood Shrine Club, the F&AM Masonic Lodge No. 99 in Wichita, Kan., and the BPO Elks Lodge No. 2378 in Englewood.

Survivors include his wife of 28 years of marriage, June; daughter, Debra Polykoff of Havertown, Pa.; son, Kenneth Miley of Harleysville, Pa.; and three grandchildren.

There will be no services. Arrangements are by Lemon Bay Funeral Homes, Englewood.

Frank J. Volino Sr.

Frank J. Volino Sr., 91, of Englewood, Fla., died March 1, 2000.

Born Sept. 3, 1908, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he moved to this area in 1981 from New York. He was a chauffeur for a textile company. Mr. Volino was a member of St. Raphael's Church in Englewood since 1981.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Elsie; sons, Frank J. Volino Jr. of Englewood, and Robert Volino of Sarasota; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Services are pending. Arrangements are by National Cremation Society, Port Charlotte.

Ruth S. Berry

Ruth S. Berry, 90, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Feb. 25, 2000, at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte.

She was a resident of Port Charlotte since 1962, coming from Canton, Ohio. She was born May 6, 1909, in Canton, to George Lyman Sickafoose and Myrtle (Sponhauer) Sickafoose. She was a retired high school teacher. She taught physical education and health education in Canton. She was both an avid golfer and bridge player. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jim Berry in 1970; brother, Russell Sickafoose, and sisters, Martha Quinn Adair, Mary Olive Oldfield and Anne Domer, all of Port Charlotte.

Survivors include her nieces, Sandy Gatschet of Canton and Doreen Quinn of Cincinnati, Ohio; nephews, Robert Sickafoose of Naples, Fla., and Dennis P. Quinn of Miami Lakes, Fla.

At the families request, all services were held privately. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Salvation Army, Charlotte County Corps 2120, 2735 Tamiami Trail, Port Charlotte, FL 33952. Arrangements were by Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home, Punta Gorda.

Lorraine M. Boardman

Lorraine M. Boardman, 82, a longtime resident of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Feb. 28, 2000, at Fawcett Memorial Hospital, Port Charlotte.

She was born Aug. 17, 1917, in Barre, Vt., to Louis E. Fisher and Emelia (Therrien) Fisher. She moved to this area in 1978 from Dallas, Texas. Most recently she resided at the Royal Palm Retirement Center in Port Charlotte. She was an active volunteer and held several offices with the Deborah Hospital Foundation, Port Charlotte chapter. She was a Eucharistic minister at the Bon Secours-St. Joseph Hospital, and a sitter for Hospice. Among her many other interests, Lorraine was an avid bridge player. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon "Joe" Boardman in 1987 and her beloved son, Vernon "Butch" Boardman in 1996.

Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Barbara Boardman; granddaughters, Deborah (Ray) Dunlap and Bonnie (Richard) Allen; and four great-grandchildren, all of Montgomery, Ala.; and brother, Wilfred Fisher of Barre.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. March 3 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Port Charlotte. There will be no local viewing. Interment will take place in Tunbridge, Vt. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Deborah Hospital Foundation, 212 Trenton Road, Brownsmill, NJ 08015-0792, or to a charity of your choice, in her name. Local arrangements are by Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home, Punta Gorda.

Carrie Mae Condon

Carrie Mae Condon, 92, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Feb. 29, 2000, at Fawcett Memorial Hospital, Port Charlotte.

Born March 18, 1907, in Mount Ayr, Iowa, she came to Florida from Jefferson, Iowa. She was a homemaker and seamstress. She was a member of the Christian Church in Iowa and attended the Methodist Church in Port Charlotte. Mrs. Condon was a member of the (Masonic) Eastern Star.

Survivors include her daughter, Eloise Ness (husband Ron) of Port Charlotte; sons, William J. Condon III (wife Marilynn) of Dubuque, Iowa; brother, Lawrence Mull of Jefferson, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, William J. Condon Jr.; two sons, Cyril and James; two sisters, Clara Wright and Madelen Mull; and brother, Orville Mull.

Memorial services will be held at a later date at the Port Charlotte Methodist Church. Arrangements are by I.C.S. Cremation Inc., Cape Coral.

Alfred M. DeFabrizio

Alfred M. DeFabrizio, 78, beloved husband and father, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Feb. 27, 2000.

Born Nov. 1, 1921, in Manhattan, N.Y., he moved to this area October 1987, from Freeport, Long Island, N.Y. Mr. DeFabrizio worked for International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He was a member of Knights of Columbus in New York and BPO Elks Lodge in Englewood. He attended St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church and was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Charlotte; daughters, Charlotte Ackerman of Punta Gorda and Lisa Anne Nives of Port Charlotte; sons, Michael of Long Island and Richard of Shoreham N.Y.; brother, Carmine DeFabrizio of Fishkill, N.Y.; and five grandchildren.

Memorial Mass will be at 3 p.m. March 2 at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church, Port Charlotte. Memorial donations may be made to Make-A-Wish Foundation (Cancer Research for Children), 100 West Clarendon Suite 200, Phoenix, AZ 85014. Local arrangements are by National Cremation Society, Port Charlotte.

Ruth Ryan Dritt

Ruth Ryan Dritt, 79, beloved wife and mother, of Punta Gorda, Fla., died Feb. 29, 2000, at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte.

She was born Oct. 9, 1920, in Lakewood, Ohio, to Daniel and Madelon (Miller) Ryan. A graduate of Kent State University, Kent, Ohio, she entered the United States armed services during World War II and served with the 25th W.A.C. Hospital Company. She moved to this area in 1988 from Needham, Mass., and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Port Charlotte, Peace River Power Squadron, Charlotte Harbor Yacht Club, Charlotte Chorale Society, Pi Beta Phi Sorority, the American Association of University Women, and formerly the Punta Gorda Boat Club.

Survivors include her beloved husband of 48 years, Jack Dritt; three daughters, Deborah Jones and Laura Dritt, both of Bolingbrook, Ill., and Jennifer Wight of Lyndeborough, N.H.; and four grandchildren, Amanda and Grace Wight, both of Lyndeborough, and Beth and Jay Jones, both of Bolingbrook, Ill.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. March 4 at First Presbyterian Church of Port Charlotte, with the Rev. Dr. G. Russell Hickman officiating. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Lung Association of Gulfcoast Florida, 1436 Royal Palm Square Blvd., Fort Myers, FL 33919. Arrangements are by Roberson Funeral Home & Crematory, Punta Gorda.

George B. Nanna

George B. Nanna, 85, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Feb. 28, 2000, at his residence.

He was born July 17, 1914, in Athens, Ohio, and moved to Port Charlotte in 1973 from Grand Rapids, Mich. He was a retired J.C. Penney manager, retiring after 39 years of service. He was a former manager of Storer Cable TV of Charlotte County, which is now Comcast, and is former executive director of the Charlotte County Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the Southwest Florida Retired J.C. Penney Managers and Port Charlotte United Methodist Church. Mr. Nanna was active in Rotary and was a member and past president of the Port Charlotte Rotary Club. Mr. Nanna was a former member and past president of the Parma Ohio Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International. He was a former member of the Board of Trustees of the Cultural Center of Charlotte County, former member the St. Joseph Hospital Senior Advisory Committee and a charter member of the Quality Care Advocates. He served on the I-75 Now Committee, and was a volunteer for United Way. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 110 and DAV chapter No. 82, both of Port Charlotte. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. His hobbies included basketball, tennis, bridge and golf.

Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Ava Barron Nanna of Port Charlotte; son, Jerry Nanna of Evanston, Ill.; daughter, Judith McCabe of Grand Rapids, Mich.; sister, Ellen Howard of Ontario, Calif.; grandson, Mark McCabe of Grand Rapids; three granddaughters, Kelly Taff of Sugarland, Texas, Kimberly Prater of Farmington Hills, Mich., and Danielle Ellis of Fort Worth, Texas; and five great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. March 3 at the Port Charlotte United Methodist Church. The Rev. J. Ralph Burton Jr. and Dr. Duane R. Tovey will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to the Port Charlotte United Methodist Church, 21075 Quesada Ave., Port Charlotte, FL 33952, or to the Port Charlotte Rotary Foundation, P.O. Box 2173, Port Charlotte, FL 33949. Arrangements are by Roberson Funeral Home & Crematory, Port Charlotte chapel.

Alice H. Natelson

Alice H. Natelson, 96, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Feb. 29, 2000.

Born March 8, 1903, in St. Paul, Minn., she moved to this area in 1985 from Los Angeles, Calif. She was a school teacher in North Dakota before moving to Los Angeles. She was of the Jewish faith.

Survivors include her cousin, Joseph (Lila) Greengard of Seattle, Wash.; and dear friend, Helen Nelson of Punta Gorda, Fla.

There will be no local services. Arrangements are by Kays-Ponger/Royal Palm Funeral Home, Port Charlotte.

Raymond Alan Tucker

Raymond Alan Tucker, 64, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Feb. 29, 2000, at Tampa General Hospital, Tampa, Fla.

He was born in Ward, W. Va. He was a corrections officer for the state of Florida and was a Protestant. Mr. Tucker was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, and belonged to the American Legion No. 103, Punta Gorda, Fla.

Survivors include his wife, Milladene T. Tucker; five daughters, Connie Hilbert and Lisa Rivero, both of Port Charlotte, Cindy Mullins of Winfield, W. Va., and Tara Conley and Kim Conley, both of East Bank, W. Va.; brother, Joe Tucker of St. Albans, W. Va.; sisters, Norma Sargent of Chelyan, W. Va., and Mary Lou Glover of California; and 13 grandchildren.

Funeral services and burial are by Fidler & Frame Funeral Home, Belle, W. Va.

Robert G. Halter

Robert G. Halter, 81, of North Port, Fla., died Feb. 28, 2000.

Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. March 2 at Trinity United Methodist Church, North Port, with Duane Waters officiating. Memorial donations may be made to Shriner's Hospital For Crippled Children, 12502 North Pine Drive, Tampa, FL 33612. Arrangements are by National Cremation Society, Port Charlotte.

Harold A. Heaton

Harold A. Heaton, 75, of North Port, Fla., died Feb. 29, 2000.

There will be a visitation from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. March 2 at Farley Funeral Home, North Port chapel. Service and burial will be in Endicott, N.Y. Memorial donations may be made to American Diabetes Association, 4710 Eisenhower Blvd. A-7, Tampa, FL 33634.

Pauline A. Tomke

Pauline A. Tomke, 82, of Englewood, Fla., died Feb. 27, 2000.

Born March 8, 1917, in Detroit, Mich., she moved to this area in 1980 from Franklin Village, Mich. She was a retired teacher for the Detroit School System and attended Redeemer Lutheran Church of Englewood.

Survivors include her daughter, Lisa M. Wojdula of Englewood; grandchildren, Shelli Hazeltine, Joseph Webster and Steven Wojdula, all of Venice, Fla., and Wendy Bitner of Port Charlotte, Fla.; great-grandchildren, Ashley L. Webster and Riley N. Webster, both of Venice.

Services will be private. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Southwest Florida, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238. Arrangements are by National Cremation Society, Port Charlotte.

Jean T. Popovich

Jean T. Popovich, 89, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Saturday, Feb. 28, 2004, in Deep Creek, Port Charlotte.

She was born Oct. 17, 1914, in Baltimore, Md. She moved to Punta Gorda in 1987. She was a Catholic.

She is survived by two sons, Daniel J. Kratz of Edgewater, Fla. and Milton A. Kratz of Punta Gorda; three brothers; Ed Nagrabski of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Steve Nagrabski of Wimauma, Fla. and Tony Nagrabski of Edgewater; two sisters, Laura Martini and Bertha Wajbel, both of Baltimore; five grandchildren, Herbert Warren Hickman Jr. of Bozman, Md., Gary Kratz of Hewitt, Texas, Tony Kratz of Charlotte, N.C., Michael Kratz of Orlando, Fla. and Michele Durrance of Tampa, Fla.; six great-grandchildren, Herbert Warren Hickman III, of Baltimore, Harrison Hickman of Bozman, Melissa Kratz of Hewitt, Cole, Noah and Madison Durrance, all of Tampa.

A private family viewing was held Feb. 29, 2004 at Kays-Ponger/Royal Palm Funeral Home.

Arrangements are by Kays-Ponger/Royal Palm Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Punta Gorda.

Evelyn Cada (nee Tabor)

Evelyn Cada (nee Tabor), 82, of Port Charlotte, Fla., formerly of Solon, Ohio, died Feb. 23, 2000.

She was the beloved wife of the late Rudolph; dear sister of Josephine Hegemer, of Mt. Dora, Fla., and Wilma Zalewski of Port Charlotte; aunt of many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Lada and William Tabor.

Graveside services are at 10 a.m. Feb. 28, at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Bedford Heights, Ohio. There is no visitation. Arrangements by Kindrich-McHugh Steinbauer Funeral Home, Solon.

Harry J. Coponi

Harry J. Coponi, 88, of Punta Gorda, Fla., died Feb. 24, 2000.

He was born March 22, 1911, in Fernwood, Pa., and moved here in 1998 from Toms River, N.J. He was the fire chief for the city of Orange, N.J., for 23 years and also the city's fire director, retiring in 1976. Mr. Coponi was the past president of The National Fire Chiefs Association; a member of The International Fire Chiefs Association; member of The Italian-American Club of Punta Gorda; and was on the club's bocce ball team. He was also a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Punta Gorda and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Orange, N.J.

He is survived by two sons, Richard J. and George H, both of Punta Gorda; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation is from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Feb. 28 with a 7 p.m. wake service at Kays-Ponger Funeral Home, Punta Gorda Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Punta Gorda on Feb. 29. Burial will follow services at Royal Palms Memorial Park in Punta Gorda.
