Fanny DiScuillo Beal, 85, St. Augustine, died Sept. 8, 1998, at the Mariner Health Care Center, St. Augustine. She was born in Providence, R.I., and she had resided in St. Augustine since 1976. Prior to moving to Florida, she had resided in Ledyard, Conn., where she was active in Ledyard Grange for 30 years and was a member of the Ledyard Fire Auxiliary. She was a gourmet cook who worked for the Harkness family, owners of the New York City Ballet, and the Springborn family, owners of the New York Jets. She was a member of Moultrie Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the chapel of Craig Funeral Home, with the Rev. Michael Mott, pastor of Moultrie Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in St. Augustine Memorial Park. Friends may call at Craig chapel from 6 to 8 p.m., today.

Hattie L. Bennett, 132 M.L. King Ave., died Sept. 6, 1998, at the Samantha Wilson Care Center. She was born in Sanford, and she had resided here since 1968. She was a member of Pompey Temple Church of God In Christ, Hastings.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel of Chase and Son Funeral Home, with the Rev. F.D. Richardson Jr., pastor of St. Paul AME Church, officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may call at Chase chapel from 5 to 9 p.m., today.

Al Carter
Al Vernon Carter, 71, St. Augustine, died Sept. 9, 1998, at the St. Johns Health Care Center. He was born in Kentucky, and he had resided in St. Augustine for the past 26 years. He was a retired truck driver for the St. Johns County Road and Bridge Department, and he was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m., Friday, at Craig Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. LaVoy Newton Jr., pastor of Lighthouse Church of God, officiating. Friends may call at Craig chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday.

Funeral services for John Charles Eubanks Jr., 47, Tallahassee, who died Sept. 1, 1998, at Columbia Hospital, Lake City, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Paul AME Church, with the Rev. Bayard Wharton
Bayard Wharton, 71, St. Augustine, died Sept. 6, 1998, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born in Philadelphia, Pa., and he had resided in St. Augustine for the past four years. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy, and he owned and operated a Hallmark Card Shop and Gift Shop in Rhode Island.
Survivors include his wife, Marian; a daughter, Susan W. Moffett, Exeter, R.I.; one stepsister, Evie Smith, St. George, Maine; and four grandchildren.
Memorial services will be announced by Craig Funeral Home.
Jesse Bowles
Jesse Talmage Bowles, 76, St. Augustine, died Sept. 8, 1998, at his home. He was born in Speedway, W.Va., and he had resided in St. Augustine since 1975. He was a retired steel mill rigger, and he was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Memorial services will be held at a later date in Speedway.
Survivors include his wife, Maria, and one sister, Odell David, Speedway.

He was retired from Acme Parcel, where he worked as a truck driver, and he was a member of Local No. 705, IB of T. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps, and he was a member of Heritage Baptist Church.

Matilda Alfieri
Matilda Milewska Alfieri, 88, St. Augustine, died Sept. 27, 1998, at Mariner Health Care Center. She was born in Hoboken, N.J., and she had resided in St. Augustine since 1980. She was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church and of the church's guild.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Frank A. Alfieri; two sons, Stephen David Alfieri, North Dartmouth, Mass., Kenneth Michael Alfieri, M.D., Roswell, N.M.; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Hope Bartlett
Hope Lorraine Bartlett, 22, Orange Park, died Sept. 24, 1998, during a boating accident, as she as she was reporting for ABC 25, WJXX, TV, Jacksonville. She was a member of the Island View Baptist Church, Orange Park, and she also held membership in numerous organizations, including Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She had received numerous awards for her community service. She was a graduate of Orange Park High School, Class of 1993, and Northwestern University-Medill School of Journalism, Class of 1997. She held a master of science degree in journalism.
Funeral services were held Sunday at Island View Baptist Church, with the former pastor, Dr. James F. Hoffman Jr. delivering the eulogy. Burial was at 10 a.m. Monday at Jacksonville Memory Gardens, Orange Park.

Clarence R. English, 61, died Sept. 26, 1998, at Flagler Hospital West. He was born in Tullah Lodge, Ga., and he moved to St. Augustine in 1965. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having been involved in the Berlin Conflict.

William Whitaker
William Joseph Whitaker, 61, St. Augustine, died Sept. 26, 1998, at Flagler Hospital East. He was born in Pawtucket, R.I., and he had resided here since 1989. He was a retired TWA commercial airline pilot, and he served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Cathedral-Basilica, serving as a lector.
Funeral services will be held at 10:15 a.m., Wednesday, at the Cathedral-Basilica of St. Augustine. Burial will be in St. Augustine Memorial Park. Prayers will be said at 7 p.m. today at the Cathedral. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Cathedral.

William Scott
William A. Scott, 77, St. Augustine, died Sept. 26, 1998, at Flagler Hospital West. He was born in Bergenfield, N.J., and he had resided in St. Augustine for over 13 years. He was a graduate of NYU, and he received his master's degree at Hofstra University. He was a retired biology teacher, having worked in the public school system in Babylon, N.Y., and he was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II. He was a member of EMMA, the Navy League, St. Augustine Lions Club, St. Augustine Jazz Society, and he also taught 55 Alive with AARP.
Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at the chapel of Craig Funeral Home, with the Rev. Kenneth Sauerman, pastor of Lord of Life Lutheran Church, Ponte Vedra Beach.

Elizabeth Aunchman
Elizabeth E. (Leslie) Aunchman, 80, North Reading, Mass., died Sept. 12, 1998, at the Apple Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Ayer, Mass. She was born in Somerville, Mass., and was a graduate of Cambridge Latin High School. Prior to moving to Townsend, Mass., four years ago to make her home with her sister, she resided in St. Augustine with her son, Jerry, a St. Johns County employee. While in St. Augustine, she was a member of Trinity Chapel Ministries, and she and her late husband, John Aunchman, built three homes on Porpoise Point. Her husband died in 1975.
Funeral services were held Sept. 16 in North Reading, with burial following there in Riverside Cemetery.
Survivors, in addition to her son, Gerald of St. Augustine, include sons Kenneth, Georgia, and Robert, Derry, N.H.; daughters, Cheryl Cairns, North Reading, Karin Massey, South Carolina; sisters, Marjorie Cook, South Boston, Evelyn Leonard, Townsend; 12 grandchildren and a many great-grandchildren.
Elodeous Baxter
Elodeous Baxter, 73, 917 Josiah St., died Sept. 16, 1998, in Flagler Hospital East. She was a lifelong resident of St. Augustine, and she was of the Baptist faith.

Johann Erhard Bissinger, 74, St. Augustine, died Sept. 17, 1998, at his home. He was born in Mainz, Germany, and he had resided here since 1972. He was of the Catholic faith, and he was a former motel owner.

Clinton Esau
Deacon Clinton Ward Esau, 88, Palatka, died Sept. 16, 1998, at his home, following a long illness. He was born in St. Johns County, and he was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. He retired from W.L. Wheatley/Campbell Soup Company, Clayton, Del., following 20 years of employment, and he had resided in Palatka since 1965, moving there from Hastings.
He was a former member and class leader at Mt. Zion AME Church, Hastings. When he moved to Palatka, he joined the Pentecostal Church of God in Christ in 1967, serving as an ordained deacon and devotional leader.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Monday at the Pentecostal Church of God in Christ, with Elder Johnny Shaw, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery, San Mateo. Friends may call at the Chapel of Serenity, 2400 Madison St., Palatka, from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday, and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday.
