Dorothy Groover Burnett, 79, St. Augustine, died Sept. 15, 1998, at Flagler Hospital. She was born in Washington, D.C. She moved here in 1994 from Stroudsburg, Pa. She was a member of Memorial Presbyterian Church.

Irene Frances Skowron, 71, St. Augustine, died Sept. 18, 1998, at Flagler Hospital East. She was born in Ipswich, Mass., and had resided in St. Augustine for the past three years. She was a retired nurse's aide.

John Alexander
John Barlow Alexander, 54, died Sept. 18, 1998. A native of Cleveland, Ohio, he had resided on the St. Johns River in St. Johns County since 1983. He was a 1966 graduate of Michigan State University, where he was a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity. He earned his MBA from the University of North Florida in 1979, and he owned Alexander Accounting and Tax Service, Green Cove Springs. In Green Cove, he was past president of the Rotary Club of Green Cove Springs, and he was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was current president of the First Coast Chapter, Florida Society of Enrolled Agents.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Helm Funeral Home chapel, Green Cove Springs. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

Roland Gifford
Roland Vernon Gifford, 78, St. Augustine, died Sept. 20, 1998, at his home. He was born in Schenectady, N.Y , and he had resided in St. Augustine since 1969. He was a retired lumber salesman, and he had worked for Werninck Lumber. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Episcopal Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mable; three sons, Roland V. Gifford Jr., Jacksonville, David B. Gifford, Birmingham, Ala., Glen P. Gifford, Tallahassee; one sister, Helen Alexander, Madeira Beach; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Edward Kearse
Edward Kearse, 88, 81 Lovett St., died Sept. 17, 1998, at Flagler Hospital. He had resided in St. Augustine for some 87 years.
A community and civic leader, he was affiliated with American Legion Post No. 194, San Sebastian Odd Fellows Lodge, Ancient City Prayer Band, Elks Lodge, Heroines of Jericho, the Democratic Party, Eastern Star, Shriners, Lily White Lodge, and he was a 32nd degree Mason.
He was a veteran of World War II, and he was a retired employee of the St. Johns County Courthouse. A former member of Trinity United Methodist Church, he established membership with St. Paul AME Church. During the course of his 60-plus-year membership, he served on the steward board, the trustee board, G.P. Hammond Choir, lay organization and was chairman of many special days and events. Prior to his death, he was recognized for his service with the awarding of the title of Steward Emeritus.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul AME Church, 85 M.L. King Jr. Ave., with the Rev. F.D. Richardson Jr., pastor, officiating. Friends may call at Chase and Son Funeral Home chapel from 6 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, and at the church from 10 a.m. Wednesday until the hour of services.
Mr. Kearse was the husband of the late Sadie Ward Kearse. They were married for 31 years.
Survivors include two sisters, Albertina Robertson, St. Augustine, Bernice Neely, Dallas, Texas; one brother, Charles Kearse, Philadelphia, Pa.; a stepdaughter, Myrtis Wiley, St. Augustine; one stepson, George Weaver, Aiken, S.C.; nine step-grandchildren, eight step-great-grandchildren and other relatives.

Elizabeth Jane Minchew, 76, St. Augustine, died Sept. 19, 1998, at Flagler Hospital East. She was a lifelong resident of St. Augustine, and she and her sister owned and operated Bilger's Fashions for many years. She was of the Catholic faith. She was a 1940 graduate of St. Joseph Academy.

Everett D. ``Monty'' Montgomery, 79, Hastings, died Sept. 19, 1998, at Putnam Community Medical Center, Palatka, following a short illness. A native of Grayson, Ky., he had resided in Hastings since 1981. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy, and he was a member of American Legion Post No. 102, Hastings. He had worked for 45 years as a construction superintendent, and he was a member of the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels. He was of the Baptist faith.
Funeral services were held at 5 p.m. Sunday at Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home, Palatka, with the Rev. Charles Johnson officiating.
Services will also be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Malone Funeral Home, Grayson, Ky. Burial will be at East Carter County Memorial Gardens.

Gordon Lewis Bohall, 89, St. Augustine, passed away Sept. 19, 1998. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church of St. Augustine.

He was a Mason and a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a retiree of St. Regis Paper Company, Jacksonville, and formerly of Carthage, N.Y.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Myrtle, St. Augustine; three daughters, Gwen Loadholtz, Jacksonville, Jeanette O'Connor Collins (Tom), Jacksonville and Asheville, N.C., and Bonnie Aspinwall, St. Augustine; one brother, Gerald Bohall (Minerva), Nobleton, Fla.; a nephew, Roland Bohall (Carole), Carthage, N.Y.; four grandchildren, Dawn Proctor (Ford) and Tracey Estrada (Napolean) of Jacksonville, Stuart and Maureen Aspinwall, St. Augustine; one great-grandchildren, Alexandria Estrada.
He is also survived by many loving friends.

Helen Elizabeth Beeson, 81, Old Town, Fla., a former St. Augustine resident, died Sept. 8, 1998, at North Florida Regional Hospital, Gainesville. She moved to Old Town from Douglasville, Ga., four years ago. She was of the Catholic faith, and she was a cook for many years at the Hickory House in St. Augustine.
Memorial services were held Sept. 19 at the Church of God, with Brother Ed Ivey officiating.
Mrs. Beeson was preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers.
Survivors include three daughters, Mary Howard, Barbara Whidden, both of Old Town, Joan King, Douglasville; two brothers, Joe and Whitey Sikora; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
