William Townsend
William Pierre Townsend Sr., 65, St. Augustine, died Oct. 9, 1998, at his home. He was a native of St. Augustine, and he was a retired supervisor for Florida Power and Light Company. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and he was a member of the Masonic Seminole Lodge No. 304, where he was a past worshipful master.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. S. Dwight McQueen, pastor, officiating. Masonic memorial services will also be held. Members of the lodge are asked to meet at the church for the service.
Survivors include his wife, Rosemary; one son, William P. Townsend Jr., stationed with the U.S. Navy in Virginia Beach, Va.; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Matthew (Kathy) Maxwell, Boynton Beach, Mrs. Tony (Judy) Maxwell, Lake Worth; a stepson, David (Kathleen) Livanec, Lake Worth; two sisters, Melvene Fudge, Little Rock, Ark., Norma Jean Campbell, Atlanta, Ga.; one brother, Herbert Townsend, Stockton, Calif.; and six grandchildren.

Paul Faris
Paul Lindsay Faris, 63, Fort Mill, S.C., died Oct. 7, 1998, at Carolinas Medical Center. Born in Fort Mill, he was the son of N.C. and Della Parrish Faris, and he was a former minister for the Nazarene church. He was a member of Pineville Church of the Nazarene. He worked as a security guard for AME Zion Church.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bass Funeral Home, Rock Hill, S.C., with the Rev. Michael Bearden officiating. Burial will be at Hopewell Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Rock Hill.
Survivors include his wife, Christeen Crump Faris; two daughters, Paula Wall, Linda A. Faris, St. Augustine; a son, Lindsey N. Faris, Orange Park; two stepsons, James M. Faris, Indiana, Steven B. Faris, Louisiana; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Maudine Gainey and Margaret Barfield, both of Rock Hill.

Aaron Smithers, 84, St. Augustine, died Oct. 8, 1998, at his home. He was born in Estill County, Ky., and he had resided here since 1988. He was a self-employed painter, and he was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II. He was of the Baptist faith.

Erma Willa Bowers, 95, St. Augustine, died Oct. 11, 1998, at the Samantha Wilson Care Center. She was born in Logan, W.Va., and she had resided here since 1972. She was a member of Memorial Presbyterian Church, and she was a former member of church circle 2. She was a former model and had also worked in sales in the fashion industry.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the New Providence Presbyterian Cemetery, Brownsburg, Va., with the Williams Funeral Home in charge.

David Judd
David Peter Judd, 32, Memphis, Tenn., died Oct. 7, 1998, at the Memphis Medical Center. He was born in Floral Park, L.I., N.Y., and he had resided in Memphis for the past eight years. He was a self-employed carpenter. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Memphis, and he was the father of the late David Ethan Judd. The younger Judd was killed in a 1995 auto accident caused by a drunk driver.
Survivors include two daughters, Shannon Ashley and Sabrina Arin Judd, one son, Christopher; his parents, David and Anita Judd, St. Augustine; two brothers, Christopher, Long Island, N.Y., Stephen, Hornsby, Tenn.; one sister, Lisa Judd McPhillips, St. Augustine; and other relatives.
Services were to be held at 2 p.m. today at Memory Gardens, Memphis, with the Rev. Dennis Meehan officiating.

Annie L. Winfield, 96, 128 Pomar St., died Oct. 11, 1998, at Flagler Hospital West. She was born in Aiken, S.C., and she had resided here since 1924. She was a member of St. Mary's Baptist Church, where she sang in the adult choir and was president of the St. Augustine Choir Guild for many years. She was also a member of the OES, Lily White Lodge, deaconesses and, for many years, was the most ancient matron of the Heroines of Jericho.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Baptist Church, with the Rev. Isaac Davis, pastor, officiating. Final services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Montrenci Baptist Church, Aiken. Friends may call at Chase and Son Funeral Home from 5 to 9 p.m. today.
Survivors include nieces Sallie James, St. Augustine, Eartha Prather, Maryland, Helen Body, Washington, D.C.; nephews, George L. Weaver, Ezzard L. Burckhalter, George M. Burckhalter, all of Aiken, Robert Burckhalter, Billy James, both of New York City; and other relatives.

The National Cremation Society, Jacksonville, is in charge of arrangements for Richard E. Wright, 63, St. Augustine. He was manager of the Teneco Service Station, and he was born in Burlington, Vt. He had resided in St. Augustine for the past three years, moving here from Ocala.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth McCaw Wright, St. Augustine; three sons, Richard and Robert Wright, Ocala, Andrew Wright, St. Augustine; three daughters, Teresa Sapp, Janice Mertz, Tracy Wright, all of Ocala; a brother, George Cakoyanis, Ocala; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
