Mona Glenn
Mona Porter Glenn died Nov. 11, 1998, at Methodist Hospice, Methodist Medical Center, Jacksonville, after having suffered a severe stroke Oct. 24. She was a longtime resident of the Beaches area, and she and her husband resided part time at his home in Palm Valley.
She was born in Johnston, S.C., and following the death of her mother, at an early age, she and her family moved to Thomson, Ga. She and her first husband, J.C. Porter, moved to Jacksonville Beach and opened Porter's Service Station, Garage and Beach Auto Parts. Following the death of Porter in 1955, she continued to run the business until 1983. In the Jacksonville Beach area, she was active in the garden club and was a former president. She attended Christ Episcopal Church, Ponte Vedra, and other churches in the area.
Survivors include her husband, H. Allen Glenn; a niece, Mary S. McGee, Durango, Col.; one grandnephew and a grandniece.
The National Cremation Society is in charge.

Dean Moorhouse
Military graveside services for Dean O. Moorhouse, 81, Ocala, who died Oct. 29, 1998, in Ocala, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell. Those attending the service are requested to meet at the administration building at 2 p.m.
Mr. Moorhouse was formerly of St. Augustine and was an educator in the St. Johns County School System for many years.
Those wishing may make a contribution, in his memory, to the Foundation for Fighting Blindness, POB 17279, Baltimore, Md., 21297.
Survivors include his wife, Frances K. Moorhouse, 8665 E. S.W. 92nd Lane, Ocala, 34481. Also surviving are one daughter, three sons and six grandchildren.

Rosa Pierce
Rosa Cooper Pierce, 91, died Nov. 17, 1998, at the home of her daughter in St. Augustine. She was born in Ione, Ga., and she had resided here since 1993. As a young woman, she taught in a one-room school in White Springs, and she subsequently became principal and a teacher at Moultrie Business College. After her marriage in 1936, she moved with her husband to Miami, where he was a salesman for Swift and Company. For 43 years, she was an active member of University Baptist Church, Coral Gables, serving as superintendent of the second grade Sunday school department. At the time of her death, she was a member of Ancient City Baptist Church of St. Augustine.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday Big Creek Baptist Church, Coolidge, Ga., with her nephew, Dr. Buster Evans, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Those wishing may make a contribution, in her memory, to Hospice Northeast, 1400 Old Dixie Hwy., Suite A, St. Augustine, 32086.
Mrs. Pierce was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Hansell Henry Pierce.
Survivors include two daughters, Rosemarie (Mrs. Curtis) Ferry, St. Augustine, Linda (Mrs. Richard) Hardwick, Lake City; one brother, W.T. Cooper, Moultrie, Ga.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Craig Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Tommy Taylor
Graveside services for Tommy S. Taylor, 82, St. Augustine, who died Nov. 14, 1998, at Flagler Hospital, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Greenwood Cemetery, Orlando. Friends may call at Craig Funeral Home chapel from 5 to 8 p.m. today.

Joseph Wareham
Joseph I. Wareham, 68, St. Augustine, died Nov. 15, 1998, at the Halifax Hospital Medical Center, Daytona Beach. He was born in Philadelphia, Pa., and he had resided here for the past 18 years.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. John of the Cross Church, Roslyn, Pa. Burial will be in Holy Sepulcher Cemetery.
Those wishing may make a donation, in his memory, to the American Diabetic Association, 1 Plymouth Meeting, Suite 520, Plymouth Meeting, Pa., 19462.
Survivors include his wife, Marian Kirchner Wareham, St. Augustine; five sons, Francis, Joseph, both of St. Augustine, Willis, Roslyn, Robert, Ship Bottom, N.J., Norman, Hampton, Ga.; one daughter, Marianne Wareham, Jacksonville; two brothers, Norman and Francis; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

George Battle Jr.
George Gilbert Battle Jr., 16, Orange Park, died Nov. 14, 1998, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Green Cove Springs. He was born in Jacksonville, and he had resided in Orange Park since early childhood. He attended Clay High School, where he played football and was an honor student.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Zion AME Church, Green Cove Springs, with the Rev. Charles M. Jones, pastor, and the Rev. Lonnie Daniels, eulogist, officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olive Cemetery. The cortege will assemble at 1107 Center St., Green Cove Springs, at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
Survivors include his mother, Tammy M. Battle, Orange Park; father, George G. Battle Sr., Middleburg; stepfather, Dean Kelly, Orange Park; brothers, Avis Hunter, Jacksonville, Adrian Battle, Orange Park, Thelbert Battle, Tennessee; sisters, Tamnika Battle, Middleburg, Shannetta Battle, Orange Park; grandparents, Victoria McDaniel, Green Cove Springs, Frank McDaniel Sr., Jacksonville, John Battle, Green Cove Springs, Maetta Vaughn, Green Cove; and other relatives.

John Davis
John Arthur Davis, 87, 110 Nassau St., died Nov. 13, 1998, in Flagler Hospital. He was born in Dixie, Ga., and he had resided here since early childhood. He was a member of Dawson Chapel CME Church, and a member of the NAACP, board of trustees and served as a steward and usher.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Dawson Chapel CME Church, with the Rev. C.C. Bell, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may call at Chase and Son Funeral Home chapel from 5 to 9 p.m., Friday, and at the church from 1 p.m. Saturday until the hour of services.
The cortege will assemble at 110 Nassau St., at 1:30 p.m., Saturday.

David Evans Jr.
David Lee Evans Jr., 26, Green Cove Springs, died Nov. 14, 1998, from injuries sustained in an auto accident in Green Cove Springs. He was born in Gainesville, and he was a lifelong resident of Green Cove Springs. He was a graduate of Clay High School, where he played basketball, and he was a member of Emanuel Christian Fellowship.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Clay High School gymnasium, with the Rev. Lonnie Daniels and Robert Wright officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Green Cove. Friends may call at Mt. Zion AME Church from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday.
The cortege will assemble at 12:15 p.m. Saturday at 721 Pine St.
Survivors include his father, David L. Evans Sr., his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Horace Brown, four children, ShanDavia, Shalondra, David Evans, Tysheen Stewart, all of Green Cove Springs; a sister, Tawana Kirkland, Starke; one brother, Ryan Evans, Orange Park; and other relatives.

Rev. Benjamin Gatlin
The Rev. Benjamin Gatlin, 86, 75 Palmer St., died Nov. 15, 1998, at Flagler Hospital. He was born in Ocilla, Ga., and he had resided here since 1950. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, where he served as an associate minister.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Tabernacle Baptist Church, with Rev. Major Highman, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Chase and Son Funeral Home chapel from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, and at the church from 10 a.m. Saturday until the hour of service.
The cortege will assemble at 75 Palmer St., at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
Survivors include his wife, Edna Mae Gatlin, St. Augustine; a son, Early Landers, Douglas, Ga.; daughters, Louise Gatlin, Atlanta, Ga., Shirley Ann Gatlin, Palatka; sisters, Rosa Lee Newson, Bradenton, Carrie Landers, St. Petersburg; 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and other relatives.

John Hazlinger
Graveside services for John Hazlinger, 73, St. Augustine, who died Nov. 14, 1998, at his home, following a brief illness, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at San Lorenzo Cemetery, with the Seamus O'Flynn, pastor of St. Anastasia Catholic Church, officiating. Friends may call Craig Funeral Home chapel from 5 to 8 p.m. today. Prayers will be said at 6 p.m. today at the Craig chapel.

Cameron Hines
Cameron Sharone Hines, 22, Green Cove Springs, died Nov. 14, 1998, from injuries sustained in an auto accident in Green Cove. He was born in Gainesville, and he had resided in Green Cove Springs since early childhood.
He attended Santa Fe Community College for two years, and he was a member of the First African Baptist Church, Green Cove Springs.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the First African Baptist Church, Green Cove Springs, with the Rev. A. Neal, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olive Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, and from 2 p.m. Saturday until the hour of services.
The cortege will assemble at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at 614 Houston St.
Survivors include his mother, Carrie E. Hines, father, Calvin R. Hines, a brother, Calvin R. Hines Jr., sister, Chanel Hines, all of Green Cove Springs; his grandparents and other relatives.

John Smith
John Tito Smith, 25, Orange Park, died Nov. 14, 1998, from injuries sustained in an auto accident in Green Cove Springs. He was born in Turlock, Calif., and he had resided in Orange Park for the past 15 years. He was of the Baptist faith, and he was a solar panel technician.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Clay High School gymnasium, with the Rev. Lonnie McDaniel and the Rev. Robert Wright, officiating. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery, Orange Park. Friends may call at Mt. Zion AME Church, Green Cove Springs, from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday.
The cortege will assemble at noon Saturday at 1434 Floyd Circle, Orange Park.
Survivors include his wife, Antwanette Smith, Orange Park; four children, Kenneth, Kirby, Nikko and Johnnishae Smith, Orange Park; his mother, Viola Smith Kelly, Green Cove Springs; father, Charles R. Smith, Fresno, Calif.; four brothers, two sisters and other relatives.

Thomas Freeman
Thomas J. Freeman, St. Augustine, died Nov. 17, 1998, at his home, in peace, surrounded by his family. He was born in Long Island City, N.Y., and he was retired from the NYC Transportation Authority, MABSTOA Division, in 1972. He married his loving wife, Peggy, on 10-23-28 in Manhattan, N.Y.C., N.Y. He served in the Army Air Corps in World War II.
He was a life member of the VFW Post 535, Englewood-Tenafly, N.J., an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus No. 611, and past faithful navigator of Fourth Degree, Knights, Bishop Perot Assembly of St. Augustine; BPOE No. 829, St. Augustine; Ancient Order of Hibernians, St. Johns County, Division I, St. Brendan the Navigator.
He was preceded in death by his son, Dennis.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy, and children, Thomas of St. Augustine; Patrick of St. Marys, Ga.; Deborah (Dufresne) and son-in-law, Ernie of Colorado; Brendan and daughter-in-law, Tina, of St. Augustine; three grandchildren, T.J., William and Deirdre; a brother, Charles of Monroe, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at Croyle Funeral Home from 5 to 9 p.m., Friday, where services will be held at 7 p.m. Friday. Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Cathedral-Basilica of St. Augustine. Burial will be in San Lorenzo Cemetery.

Noah Carter
Noah Jefferson Carter, 84, St. Augustine, died Nov. 13, 1998, at the Earl B. Hadlow Center, Jacksonville. He was born in Maynor, Ga., and he had resided here since early childhood. He was a retired law enforcement agent, having worked for the St. Augustine Police Department and the St. Johns County Sheriff's Department. He also served four consecutive terms as a constable. He was a member of the Florida Army National Guard, past president of the R.B. Hunt PTA, he was a cub scout leader, Sunday school supervisor and teacher and an usher at McDowell Baptist Church. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army, and he received the Bronze and Silver stars and three Purple Hearts. He also received the British Military Cross from Sir Winston Churchill.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at McDowell Baptist Church, with the Rev. Warren Frederick, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Augustine Memorial Park. Friends may call at Craig Funeral Home chapel from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Carter, two daughters, Carol Whatley, Dianne C. Ross, two sons, Larry R. Carter, Ronald H. Carter, all of St. Augustine; two sisters, Ethel Joiner, Martha Jones, both of St. Augustine; two brothers, Earl McClellan, Tampa, Donald McClellan, St. Augustine; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

John Hazlinger
John Hazlinger, 73, St. Augustine, died Nov. 14, 1998, at his home, following a brief illness. He was born in Middlesex, N.J., and he had resided here for the past 10 years. He owned and operated the Brook Machine Shop, Brookbound, N.J. From 1994 until this year, he was a security guard at Flagler College. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army, and he was a member of St. Anastasia Catholic Church.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at San Lorenzo Cemetery, with the Seamus O'Flynn, pastor of St. Anastasia Catholic Church, officiating. Friends may call Craig Funeral Home chapel from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

S. Dwight McQueen, pastor of the First Untied Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Friends may call at Craig chapel from 5 to 8 p.m. today.

John Westbrook
Funeral services for John Westbrook, who died Nov. 13, 1998, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, at Grace United Methodist Church with the Rev. Curtis Norton, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Lucy Norton, minister of pastoral care. Burial will in St. Augustine Memorial Park.

Matilda Johnson
Matilda Johnson, 82, Ocala, died Oct. 23, 1998, in Munroe Regional Medical Center. She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and she was a former St. Augustine resident. She was a member of the New Life Baptist Church, St. Augustine.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Nov. 27 at New Life Baptist Church, 346 Varella Ave.
