Francis Jackson "Frank" Conwell, 84, St. Augustine, died June 15, 1997, at his home. He was born in Gadsden, Ala., and he was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy. He was retired from the Florida East Coast Railway, and he was a past president of the Ponce de Leon Men's Golf Association, past president of the Independent Luncheon Club, a member of the Mullet Club and of the Riverview Club. He was of the Methodist faith.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Craig Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Ed Wilder, Hospice chaplain, officiating. Willie Evans
Willie James Evans, 72, Hastings, died June 23, 1997, at the Ponce de Leon Care Center, following a long illness.

Sigurd Hillman
Sigurd (Sig) W. Hillman, 86, Upham, N.D., formerly of St. Augustine, died May 25, 1997, in a Rugby, N.D., Medical Center. He was born in McHenry County, and he was a veteran of the Army Air Corps, serving with the 401st Bomb Group, 8th Army U.S. Army Air Corps in England, during World War II. After the war, he farmed in Bantry until 1965, when he and his wife, the former Alice Burry, moved to St. Augustine. Here he worked as a security guard. The Hillmans returned to Upham in 1993, and his wife died in 1996.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7067, Towner; the American Legion Post 269, Upham; and the Melankton Lutheran Church.
Funeral services were held at the Melankton Lutheran Church, Upham.
John Jackson
John Jackson, 89, Middleburg, died June 21, 1997, in Orange Park. Arrangements will be announced by Chase and Son Funeral Home.
Charles Johnson
Charles Alexander Johnson, 48, Tampa, died June 21, 1997. Arrangements will be announced by Chase and Son Funeral Home.
Elsie Lagasse
Elsie Louise Orme Lagasse, 93, Fort Myers, died June 22, 1997, at Hospice House. She was born in Barnesville, Md., and she graduated from Rockville High School in 1921 and from the University of Maryland in 1925. After teaching two years at Montgomery High School, she married Felix ``Hap'' Scott Lagasse, Ph.D., June 27, 1927, and they moved to Gainesville in 1938, after her husband accepted a position with the U.S. Field Laboratory at the University of Florida.
She was a member of the American Association of University Women, St. Patrick's Altar Guild, University Women's Club and the Gainesville Garden Club. The Lagasses retired to Fort Myers in 1967, and both were members of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, and she was also a member of the Council of Catholic Women.
Her husband died in 1993.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Fort Myers, with the Rev. C. Brian Lagasse officiating.
Survivors include six children, Charlotte L. Olroyd, Cape Coral, Robert A. Lagasse, St. Augustine, Richard H. Lagasse, Conway, Ark., Paul E. Lagasse, St. Augustine, Phyllis A. Reddick, Clearwater, Philip S. Lagasse, Lake Butler. Also surviving are a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Lyndel Tillier
Lyndel Annette Tillier, 73, St. Augustine, died June 23, 1997, at Mariner Health Care Center. She was born in Birmingham, Ala., and she had resided here since 1961.
Survivors include her husband, Jean-Michel E. Tillier, St. Augustine; five daughters, Suzanne Hendrix, Michele Keating, Monique Owens, Diane Robshaw, Denise Apel, all of St. Augustine; two sisters, Betty Ann Chadbourne, Alabama, Meburyn Trensch, Sky Valley, Ga.; three brothers, Grafton and Donald Greer, both of Alabama, Max Greer, Georgia; and 10 grandchildren.
Arrangements will be announced by Craig Funeral Home.

Thelma Underhill
Thelma L. Underhill, 77, Ellenton, Fla., died June 20, 1997, at the Mariner Health Care Center, Palmetto. She was born in Dexter City Ohio, and she moved to Manatee County in 1978. She was a member of Ancient City Baptist Church, St. Augustine.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ancient City Baptist Church. Previously, services were announced for Thursday at the same time.
Survivors include her husband, Carlos E. Underhill, Ellenton; daughters, Alice L. Blythe, Carla J. Cummings, both of St. Augustine; a son, Stephen E. Underhill, Houston, Texas; one sister, Josephine Mellon, Milan, Ohio; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Dr. John Anthony
Dr. John Joseph Anthony, 57, passed away Sunday at Memorial Hospital, Jacksonville, after a brief illness. Dr. Anthony was born in Baltimore, Md. He graduated from Jacksonville University with a bachelor's degree in psychology in education in 1963; he received a master's degree in guidance and counseling in 1965 from the University of Georgia; and his doctorate in psychology and counseling from the University of Florida in 1971.
Dr. Anthony was a pioneer in the field of mentally retarded and mentally ill adults and children, dedicating his life to their education and educating others concerning this illness. He was a consultant for the state of Florida in numerous school districts from 1963-75, as well as having a private practice in Gainesville.
In 1978, Dr. Anthony worked as a consultant and co-founder of Adams Acres in St. Augustine, a residential facility servicing dually diagnosed adults. He was a licensed psychologist and consultant to Amelia Island Care Center for over 12 years, working with severely disabled mentally retarded clients. In 1991, he was a consultant and co-founder of the Daisy Adams Center, a mental health day treatment center. Dr. Anthony was also a psychologist and consultant for the Bradford County School System.
Viewing will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Craig Funeral Home chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Craig chapel, with burial in St. Augustine Memorial Park.

Dr. Anthony is survived by one son, John Scott Anthony, a daughter, Sherree Norman, one grandson, Jacob Wilkerson, two granddaughters, April and Elizabeth Norman. He is also survived by his life and business partner of over 25 years, Peggie Adams, as well as his extended family, Dee Butler, daughter, and Joey Anderson, grandson.
Nancy Blackburn
Nancy Ann Blackburn, 59, Ash, N.C., died June 20, 1997, in New Hanover Regional Medical Center. She was born in Bridgeport, Conn., and she was a data entry operator at Scotsman Convenience Stores.
Survivors include her mother, Karen Neilsen Phelan, Williamston, N.C.; a son, Richard Blackburn, St. Augustine; three daughters, Beverly Jean Martin, St. Augustine, Karen Blackburn Usina, Jacksonville, Patricia Ann Jean, Southbury, Conn.; one brother, Richard Phelan, Washington, N.C.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

John P. Fitzgerald, 75, St. Augustine, died June 21, 1997, at his home. He was born in Niagara Falls, N.Y., and he moved to St. Augustine in 1983. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Signal Corps, European Theater, and he was a retired lathe operator.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
Survivors include his wife, Cordelia Fitzgerald, St. Augustine; sons, Michael J. Fitzgerald, Flippin, Ark., Alan P. Fitzgerald, Aiken, S.C., David J. Fitzgerald, Philadelphia, Pa.; and two grandchildren.
C.J. Herndon
C.J. (Jay) Herndon, Brevard, N.C., died June 23, 1997, following a brief illness. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. C.J. Herndon, and he was predeceased by his father. He was born in Jacksonville and had resided in Brevard for 17 years.
He owned Southern Exposures Company, specializing in solar energy systems.

Neal Runkle
Neal N. Runkle, 65, St. Augustine, died June 23, 1997, at Flagler Hospital East. He was born in Covington, Ky., and he had resided here since 1974. He was a retired finish carpenter, and he had worked at the former St. Augustine Trawlers for 14 years. He was a former member of the Ohio Carpenters Union.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at Craig Funeral Home chapel. Friends may call at Craig chapel from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Runkle, St. Augustine; and one brother, Martin Runkle, Chicago, Ill.
Selby Strickland
Selby Lee Strickland, 55, St. Augustine, died June 23, 1997, at Flagler Hospital West. He was a lifelong resident of St. Augustine, and he was self-employed and also worked as a railroad engineer and was a former employee of Craig Funeral Home.

Claire M. Johnson, 84, 166 Pompano Road, died June 23, 1997, at Flagler Hospital East. She was born in Buffalo, N.Y., and she came St. Augustine 17 years ago from Painted Post, N.Y. She was a retired Registered Nurse, and she was a member of the St. Augustine Art Association and the Lunch Bunch.
